To say this series is iconic is an understatement. The Robert Langdon books include some of the most recognizable titles of all time, including ‘The DaVinci code,’ which became one of the fastest-selling novels in history.

The stories center around a Harvard University professor whose expertise in religious symbology and iconography takes him around the world, exposing the secrets of the Catholic Church.

This five-book series began in 2000 with ‘Angels and Demons’ and concluded in 2017 with ‘Origin.’

Below, I’ll list every book in the series and give you a short summary of each one.

Ideally, I’d recommend reading them in publication order, but if you don’t have time to tackle the whole series from start to finish, don’t worry. The stories revolve around the same protagonist, but there’s not much crossover between each book, so you can pick up any of these titles and dive right in.

1. Angels & Demons (2000)

The body of a top physicist has been found in a Swiss research facility with a mysterious symbol branded into their chest.

And so, world-renowned symbologist Robert Langdon is called in to decode its meaning and help trace the killer.

But when he arrives at the scene, he can’t believe his eyes; the markings point to an ancient underground brotherhood known as the Illuminati, the most shadowy secret society known to man.

The Illuminati have resurfaced, and they’re plotting to overthrow their most powerful arch-nemesis, the Catholic Church.

And so Langdon jets to the Vatican, where he teams up with the Italian scientist Vittoria Vetra to stop the Illuminati in their tracks.

But their mission won’t be easy. Langdon and Vetra must embark on a dangerous and frantic search for the missing pieces of the puzzle, a search that will take them deep into a network of hidden crypts and secret vaults buried by time.

And if they fail, the entire fate of humanity could be at stake.

2. The Da Vinci Code (2003)

It’s the middle of the night, and Robert Langdon is sleeping in a Paris hotel room when an urgent phone call comes through.

The curator of The Louvre has been found dead inside the museum, surrounded by a series of cryptic codes. The police are out of their depth, but Langdon has the expertise they need to decipher the bizarre set of clues.

So, with the help of renowned French cryptologist Sophie Neveu, he sets out to solve the mysterious riddles left behind by the killer.

But what they discover is more sensational than they ever could have imagined, and now, they’re on a treasure hunt leading them deep into the past to the legendary works of Leonardo DaVinci.

They’re about to uncover one of history’s most guarded and explosive secrets, but it could slip through their fingers if they don’t act fast.

3. The Lost Symbol (2009)

Robert Langdon heads Stateside to deliver a lecture in Washington DC. He’s been invited by his old friend Peter Solomon, but when he arrives, Peter is nowhere to be seen.

Instead, Langdon witnesses the discovery of a gruesome artifact, and suddenly he begins to wonder if he’s been lured to Washington under false pretenses.

A mysterious phone call confirms his suspicions, and it’s clear that wherever Peter is, he’s in serious trouble.

The madman on the phone has some instructions for Langdon; he must find a secret object buried somewhere in the nation’s capital and bring it to him. If he doesn’t, his friend will die.

And so, he embarks on another frantic search into a shadowy world of Masonic secrets to discover a hidden truth so inconceivable that it could change the course of history forever.

4. Inferno (2013)

Robert Langdon awakes in a hospital bed in Florence with no recollection of how he got there. Even more mysterious is the sinister object found amongst his possessions.

It’s clear that he’s in danger, and so with the help of doctor Sienna Brooks, he escapes into a vast network of hidden tunnels that snake their way below the city.

His enemy is in hot pursuit, and if Langdon wants to outrun him, he’ll have to use every ounce of knowledge he has about the secrets of the ancient world.

There’s a complex puzzle buried deep beneath the city’s grand facade, and with the help of a few lines from Dante’s Inferno, Langdon and Brooks set out to solve it.

If they don’t, the consequences will be deadly.

5. Origin (2017)

Robert Langdon heads to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to attend an event hosted by the controversial billionaire inventor Edmond Kirsch.

The host has an astounding discovery to share, but as proceedings get underway, the evening suddenly descends into chaos. Now, Kirsch’s phenomenal breakthrough could be lost forever.

And so, with a dangerous enemy on his tail, Langdon flees Bilbao with the museum’s director, Ambra Vidal, and the pair travel to Barcelona.

There, they must uncover a secret password buried amongst a labyrinth of ancient passageways. Mysterious symbols mark the trail, and bit by bit, Langdon and Vidal begin to uncover the most shocking and explosive truth the world has ever known.

Dan Brown’s Standalone Novels

Dan Brown is famous for his Robert Langdon series, but he also has two thrilling standalone novels to explore, too.

The complex code has the potential to bring down the entire US intelligence system, putting America in grave danger.

She and a team of other experts head to the Arctic and begin their investigations, but what they discover will throw the world of scientific discovery into turmoil.

The meteorite is a fake, a brilliant deception masterfully executed by powerful forces. And now, these dangerous conspirators will do anything to keep their sinister plot from being exposed.

Other Works by Dan Brown

These are some lesser-known yet interesting reads of Dan Brown that you will find equally enjoyable as his other books.

This light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek survival guide for women is a far cry from the thrilling action and adventure fiction we’re used to from Brown.

But believe it or not, this was the author’s first-ever published work, which he wrote alongside his wife under the pseudonym ‘Danielle Brown.’

This children’s picture book is another unexpected addition to Brown’s bibliography, proving that this author is much more than a one-trick pony.

It’s a beautifully illustrated, hilarious adventure through the jungle, where young readers are invited to solve puzzles and crack codes to uncover a special secret with a musical twist.

Dan Brown is a master storyteller, and his thrilling, heart-stopping adventures have made him one of the most famous authors on the planet.

Detailed book overview

Dan Brown may have become a #1 bestselling author with the masterpiece that is The Da Vinci Code , but it was Digital Fortress that first ushered his career as a novelist.

The book is centered on the National Security Agency (NSA), quite rightly the most powerful intelligence organization known to mankind, yet its existence is only known by a handful of operatives.

When the agency’s invincible code-breaking machine encounters an inexplicable code it cannot decipher, it is forced to call in Susan Fletcher- the organization’s chief cryptographer.

A harmonizing concoction of both beauty and brains, what Susan Fletcher unravels will shake the United States intelligence to the roots of its founding fathers.

One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. This could explain why NASA claimed meritorious victory when their satellites spotted an indeterminate object buried deep in the Arctic ice.

Seeing as the newly found discovery could have fervent implications on the U.S Space Policy, and by extension the forthcoming presidential election, the Commander-in-chief sends Rachel Sexton, a White House Intelligence analyst to verify the credibility of the findings.

Rachel, with her team of experts, soon unfurl evidence of malice and scientific deception; one that threatens to condemn America into crisis.

She is however faced with insurmountable odds of getting news of the deception to the Oval Office before a team of hired assassins gets to her; right in the middle of the Arctic.

"AIDS: The Deadly Epidemic" by Graham Hancock is a groundbreaking and poignant exploration of one of the most devastating health crises of our time. In this powerful novel, Hancock delves deep into the history, impact, and complexities surrounding the AIDS epidemic.

Through extensive research and personal interviews, Hancock uncovers the origins and spread of the virus, shedding light on the social, political, and cultural factors that influenced its trajectory. With compassion and empathy, he chronicles the experiences of individuals affected by AIDS, from patients and caregivers to activists and scientists.

Going beyond the medical aspects, Hancock tackles the stigma, discrimination, and societal challenges faced by those living with HIV/AIDS. He challenges prevailing narratives, encourages open dialogue, and calls for greater awareness, prevention, and support.

Angles & Demons is the inaugural piece of the Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown. The book is about Robert Langdon, a celebrated Harvard symbologist, who is called to a research facility in Switzerland to analyze a bizarre symbol seared on the chest of a murdered physicist.

Langdon soon learns that the symbol, coupled with evidence from the murder, hallmarks the resurgence of the Illuminati; the most powerful underground secret brotherhood that dates back to ancient history.

The Illuminati has risen from the ashes to execute their longstanding vendetta with the Catholic Church once and for all, and it’s up to Langdon to save the Vatican from utter destruction.

Robert Langdon, a symbologist from Harvard, receives an urgent phone call in the dead of night while on a business trip in Paris.

There has been a gruesome murder of the elderly curator of the Louvre inside the museum, and Langdon has been summoned to decipher a baffling riddle discovered near the body.

Working in tandem with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu, they soon learn that the deceased lost his life while protecting a sacred trust for the Priory of Sion; a secret society that had prominent members like Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo and Leonardo da Vinci himself.

Now Langdon and Neveu have to race against time to help secure the ancient religious relic also sought after by the Opus Dei; a sanctioned Catholic sect.

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an unsolicited invitation to deliver an evening lecture at the Capitol Building right at the heart of Washington.

A bizarre object, aesthetically encoded with five symbols, is discovered soon after his arrival; one that Langdon identifies as an ancient invitation meant to usher the new recipient into a long-lost world of obscure wisdom.

He has little option but to heed to the mystical invitation, with the hope of saving his dearest mentor Peter Solomon; a renowned Mason and avid philanthropist who so happens to be kidnapped.

In the process, Langdon falls deeper into an unfathomable world of Masonic secrets, buried history and never-before-seen locations seemingly dragging him to one inconceivable truth.

Robert Langdon is in a precarious position after waking up at an Italian hospital, completely disoriented with no recollection of events in the last thirty-six hours. Even more baffling for the Harvard symbologist is the origin of the macabre object which is inexplicably found among his personal belongings.

Langdon is forced to flee alongside his doctor, Sienna Brooks, on discovering that an interminable female assassin has been trailing them throughout the Tuscany city.

They embark on a journey to decipher a series of codes by a gifted scientist whose obsession with the end of the world erringly coincides with his passion for The Inferno by Dante Alighieri.

Robert Langdon, a professor of symbology and religious iconology at Harvard, is invited to the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao by Edmond Kirsch who was one of his students at Harvard two decades earlier.

Forty-year old Kirsch, who is a futurist and a billionaire, has a groundbreaking announcement that is tantalizingly poised to change the face of science forever.

Guests are awestruck by his presentation, but the evening soon turns chaotic, precariously putting Kirsch’s newly found discovery on the verge of being lost forever.

Langdon as such works hand in hand with museum director Ambra Vidal in an intriguing quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch’s secret.

In this picture book, Maestro Mouse takes you on an enchanting journey across land and sea. Along the way, discover each animal's secret: from the frenzied whale, yakking cheetahs and tiny beetles to dashing swans and more. Using the free app and QR codes, listen to the tunes, find the hidden busy bee on each page, and solve all the riddles...

Dan Brown wrote and composed a musical adventure that combines his love of stories, classical music, and riddles into a cleverly orchestrated whole. The colorful and witty illustrations by Hungarian Susan Batori complete the picture.

Dan Brown Books In Order

Publication order of robert langdon books, publication order of standalone novels, publication order of picture books, publication order of non-fiction books, about dan brown:.

Dan Brown, the Author of the Fastest Selling Adult Novel in History.

The author of the best-seller “ The Da Vinci Code ” was born on June 22, 1964 in Exeter, New Hampshire. His father being a mathematics teacher at the Phillips Exeter Academy, the young Dan Brown grew up in the Campus with his two younger siblings and his mother, a singer and musician. In the year 1986 he graduated in English and Spanish at the Amherst College. The will to establish himself as a singer and songwriter brought him to move to Los Angeles, where he worked as a Spanish teacher at Beverly Hills Preparatory school and where he met his wife to be: Blythe Newlon. Despite Dan Brown’s talent as a songwriter he never seemed able to gain sufficient appreciation as a performer, so in 1993 he decided to go back to New Hampshire to work as an English teacher at the Phillips Exeter Academy.

Writing career

About the start of his writing career, Brown himself tells that after finishing “ The Doomsday Conspiracy ” by Sidney Sheldon during an holiday in Tahiti he just thought “ I can do that ”. It was 1994; four years later, in 1998 Dan Brown was already a full time writer and had his first thriller published with the title “ Digital Fortress ”. Blythe, who had become his wife in the year 1997 was an enthusiastic promoter of Brown’s work, she organized interviews, wrote press releases and booked talk shows. In 2000 and 2001 “ Angels and Demons ” and “ Deception Point ” were published and Brown’s best known character, the symbology expert from Harvard David Langdon, had already done his first appearance.

However, Dan Brown hasn’t reached great success till the publishing of his fourth novel, the second featuring Robert Langdon as main character: “ The Da Vinci Code ”, published in 2003 to become one of the best sellers in history. About 40 million copies were sold by the year 2006, also pushing the selling of Brown’s earliest novels which all entered The New York Times list in the same week in the year 2004. The success of the book was followed by the success of the movie inspired by The Da Vinci code, released in 2006, directed by Ron Howard and featuring Tom Hanks in the role of Robert Langdon.

In the year 2009 “The Lost Symbol” sold over a million copies on its first day, in the same year the movie “ Angels and Demons ” was released reaffirming the revaluation of Brown’s earlier works and his role as one of the best thriller writers of our times. His last novel “Inferno” , a mystery thriller on Dante’s Divine Comedy, was published on May 14, 2013 and was predictably a best seller from its first week. Although his novels have already been translated in 52 languages and sold a total of 200 million copy as for 2012, Brown doesn’t look willing to stop writing, during an interview in the year 2006 he affirmed that he has ideas to have Robert Langdon as main character of more 12 novels.

The Da Vinci Code

In Dan Brown’s novels recurrent themes such as cryptography, symbology, codes and conspiracy often find links to historical and religious themes. The Da Vinci Code, published in 2003 starts with a man, the curator of the Louvre, found dead in the museum with strange symbols written all over his body. The Harvard symbology expert Robert Langdon is called to investigate on the murder and to guide the reader through a perilous journey across symbols, puzzles, codes and a battle between the Opus Dei and The Priority of Sion at the end of which there is an explosive and hidden truth which could waver the solid tenets of Christianity.

Da Vinci, who gives the novel its title is believed to be part of the conspiracy guarding the secrets about Jesus Christ’s possible progeny. Robert Langdon and the cryptologist Sophie Neveu embark in the difficult task of decoding the puzzles and secret symbols that could be hidden in Leonardo’s pieces. The central point of the alternative religious history would see the Merovingian kings of France as descendants of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.

For its controversial content the book has been denounced to be anti-Christian and to represent an attack to the Catholic Church and Dan Brown was accused of having been inaccurate as far as history and science are concerned. Nonetheless the novel also encouraged popular interest in the Holy Grail legend and Mary Magdalene role in Christianity. As of 2013 “ The Da Vinci Code ” sold 81 million copies and has been translated in 44 different languages.

The fourth book of the Robert Langdon series was released in 2013 to be an immediate best seller, when he was asked to comment it he said: ” With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm … a landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways.” From Dan Brown’s words the most affectionate fans can already understand that the recurrent elements are there and they probably will not be disappointed: Professor Robert Langdon travelling the world to untangle world historical mysteries is a must in Dan Brown thrillers.

This time the set is Florence and the code to decipher is in Dante’s Divine Comedy Inferno. The novel opens with Robert Langdon waking up in a hospital in Florence and trying to remember what happened to him during the previous few days. The main character is followed by a mad-scientist villain who also is a fanatical of Dante’s Inferno. The two establish some kind of communication based on the interpretation of Dante’s text that lead to a fast paced chase full of accidents and exotic locations which really grab the reader from the cover to the end.

Inferno is rich in historical and cultural references, from Florence architecture, to classical art, to the allegories of Dante’s masterpiece, elements that show a great work of research from the author. The great ability of Dan Brown is to always keeping the story in the first place, never making it stop completely to give space to long explanations or dissertations. The result is a novel easier to read, entertaining but with a lot of cultural and historical information and sparks for further research on the reader’s part.

  • Great product!
  • Brown, Dan (Author)
  • English (Publication Language)
  • 384 Pages – 05/05/2000 (Publication Date) – St. Martin’s Griffin (Publisher)

Digital Fortress is Dan Brown’s first book published back in 1998. It’s a bit different from most of the other books on this list as it’s primarily a techno-thriller rather than one based on religion or history.

Set in 1996, an NSA supercomputer, TRANSLTR, that’s renowned for its code-breaking prowess encounters a code that it cannot crack, Digital Fortress.

The NSA calls in Susan Fletcher, a cryptographer and the protagonist of the novel to help crack the code and discover who created it.

Digital Fortress isn’t one of the best Dan Brown books in my opinion, but if you’re interested in reading some of his earlier works to see how he developed his style, then it’s worth a read.

Angels & Demons (2000)

Angels & Demons: A Novel (Robert Langdon)

  • 496 Pages – 05/23/2006 (Publication Date) – Atria/Emily Bestler Books (Publisher)

Angels & Demons is the first of Dan Brown’s books to feature Robert Langdon. You’re likely familiar with the story as it was turned into a movie, but the book is just as riveting if not more so.

The plot is similar to the movie in that a scientist at CERN, who has discovered how to create antimatter, is murdered and branded across the chest with the word Illuminati. Then, four cardinals who are in contention to become the next Pope are kidnapped.

Langdon has to race around Rome and find clues in a variety of churches to try and prevent this from happening and find out who’s behind the plot.

Angels & Demons is an intriguing read, which I enjoyed. If you want a thriller that will keep you engaged until the end, it’s the book for you.

Deception Point (2001)

Deception Point

  • Used Book in Good Condition
  • 464 Pages – 05/23/2006 (Publication Date) – Atria/Emily Bestler Books (Publisher)

Deception Point is one of the most underrated Dan Brown books and one of the few that doesn’t feature Robert Langdon.

The plot revolves around White House intelligence analyst, Rachel Sexton, and her involvement in corroborating a discovery of a meteorite by NASA that might contain extraterrestrial life.

Her investigation is further complicated by the upcoming presidential election in which her father is running against the incumbent, Zachary Herney.

It’s a riveting book and I read it in a few days as the plot engrossed me. Deception Point may not feature Robert Langdon, but it shows that Brown can craft a compelling story without him.

The Da Vinci Code (2003)

The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon)

  • Paris symbologist phone call murder painter
  • 597 Pages – 03/31/2009 (Publication Date) – Anchor (Publisher)

The Da Vinci Code is the most famous Dan Brown book on this list. It made him a household name and generated a lot of controversy in the process.

Such was its popularity, that it was turned into a Hollywood movie starring Tom Hanks. The plot involves a murder in the Louvre, which results in Langdon becoming involved in a battle between Opus Dei and the Priory of Sion over the possibility that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a child together.

As is usual with books by Dan Brown, there’s a lot of intrigue and mystery as Langdon tries to piece together the clues that relate to the murder and what they mean.

The Da Vinci Code is an infamous book and although it may not be the most historically accurate, the plot is gripping and you’ll be turning the pages continuously to find out what happens!

The Lost Symbol (2009)

The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon)

  • 624 Pages – 05/01/2012 (Publication Date) – Anchor (Publisher)

The Lost Symbol is the third Dan Brown book to feature Robert Langdon and is set after the events of The Da Vinci Code .

It’s a thriller set in Washington D.C. and we again follow Langdon as he tries to recover an artefact to save his friend, Peter Soloman, who’s been kidnapped.

If you enjoyed Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code , the book’s outline is the same. Langdon has to follow a set of clues to avert disaster and has some close calls along the way.

The Lost Symbol is an entertaining read and one you’ll find hard to put down as you follow Langdon and his quest across Washington D.C.

Inferno (2013)

Inferno (Robert Langdon)

  • 624 Pages – 05/06/2014 (Publication Date) – Anchor (Publisher)

Inferno is the fourth book in the Robert Langdon series and finds him waking up in a Florence hospital with no idea of how he got there.

Langdon then has to escape assassins and decipher clues hidden inside a cylinder that reveal Botticelli’s Map of Hell , based on Dante’s Inferno , all while trying to recover his recent memories.

It’s a thriller and a fast-paced one as Langdon comes to terms with the situation he’s in. I don’t want to reveal too much about the plot if you haven’t read the book, but it’s an exciting read and will have you turning page after page.

Inferno was also turned into a movie , so if you’ve seen the film you’ll be familiar with the plot. But it’s still worth reading the book, as there’s more detail than you’ll find in the movie.

Origin (2017)

Origin: A Novel (Robert Langdon)

  • 656 Pages – 07/17/2018 (Publication Date) – Anchor (Publisher)

Origin is the fifth book in the Robert Langdon series which is predominately set in Spain seeing Langdon visit the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and Sagrada Familia in Barcelona among others.

The plot revolves around artificial intelligence and the attempts by Edmond Kirsch, who was a former pupil of Langdon’s, to discover the origin of humanity.

Origin is probably the weakest of the Dan Brown books involving Robert Langdon. The dialogue feels a bit forced and the plot is somewhat convoluted and not as enjoyable as either Angels & Demons or The Da Vinci Code .

However, I’d recommend reading the book if you’re a fan of the series. You’ll likely enjoy the action and of course, you will then have read all of the books in the series too!

Wild Symphony (2020)

Wild Symphony

  • Hardcover Book
  • 44 Pages – 09/01/2020 (Publication Date) – Rodale Kids (Publisher)

Wild Symphony is the most unique of Dan Brown’s books on this list and unlike all the others.

It’s a picture book that’s aimed at children and follows a character called Maestro Mouse and his friends in a series of musical adventures.

If you have children, it’s a brilliant book they’ll love to read and which they can either read by themselves or you can read with them.

Best Matt Haig Books – Haig’s books are perfect if you’re looking for something lighter to read after Dan Brown.

Best George Orwell Books – Orwell’s books are more serious than Brown’s but they are a good counterpoint to his work and well worth reading.

Best Kazuo Ishiguro Books – Kazuo Ishiguro is a fantastic writer, while he may not write thrillers, his books are just as gripping as Brwn’s if not more so!

2 Ways to Read Dan Brown Books in Order | Ultimate Guide

Whether you’ve seen the film adaptions of his books or noticed his name dominating bestseller lists, you might be wondering how to read the Dan Brown books in order. This list will have you covered on how to read all of Dan Brown’s books. As well as going into detail about his most popular character Robert Langdon.

Dan Brown is certainly most well-known for his brilliantly enigmatic series featuring Robert Langdon. It became a series that took the world by storm with a popular film franchise and propelled Brown to fame.

The newest screen adaption of Brown’s work veers slightly from the book it is based on. In the TV show The Lost Symbol, Robert Langdon is reimagined as a younger version of himself. The show premiered on Peacock in the fall of 2021 and is currently available to stream.

Who is Dan Brown?

Dan Brown was born in Exeter, New Hampshire to a mathematics professor and a church organist. Growing up on a school campus he developed a fascination early on with the relationship between science and religion. These themes would later emerge in his written work and ignite much debate.

However, Brown didn’t immediately pursue writing upon graduation. He instead moved to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big through singing and songwriting.

While there Brown met the woman who would later become his wife, but when he couldn’t gain traction in the music industry he moved back to New Hampshire in 1993. He began work as an English teacher at the same school his father taught at: Phillips Exeter Academy.

Brown would then go on to publish his first fiction novel in 1998, followed by his first Robert Langdon book in 2000.

The recurrent themes within Brown’s books are of codes, symbols, and conspiracy. He weaves a tale of alternative religious history with a mystery thriller twist. It has ignited much controversy and backlash against Brown, but hasn’t diminished the commercial success of his books. Likewise, it hasn’t diminished Brown’s dedicated group of fans.

Collectively, Brown’s novels have been translated into 56 languages and sold more than 200 million copies internationally.

In addition to his Robert Langdon series, Brown has published one non-fiction book under the moniker Danielle Brown, two standalone mystery thrillers, and one children’s book.

Dan Brown Books in Order of Series

The more obvious way to enjoy the Dan Brown books in order is by looking at his Robert Langdon series separate from the rest of his works. You may already be familiar with some of these books. You might also notice that the film franchise adapted Brown’s books differently than the chronological order of his Robert Langdon books. If you’re looking to experience Langdon’s journey in the chronological order Brown intended, the publication order of his books is the best way to read the series.

Dan Brown Books in Order: Robert Langdon Series

Dan brown books in order: standalones, what is the robert langdon series about.

Dan Brown has published nine books during the last two decades, but his Robert Langdon books are by far his most successful commercially.

Robert Langdon is a Harvard professor that specializes in the fictional field of symbology, in particular religious symbols. In this series, Langdon travels the world untangling mysteries.

Typically, he is joined by a partner in the city he is visiting. Then the duo embark on a thrilling race against time. During which they must solve the mystery at hand and survive dangerous obstacles.

While Brown’s first Robert Langdon novel is Angels & Demons, he achieved global success after the publication of his second Langdon book The Da Vinci Code in 2003. This was his fourth published novel overall. It became one of the bestsellers in history and dominated the New York Times Best Seller list for more than two years.

The success of the book was followed by a successful film adaption. The film franchise stars Tom Hanks in the role of Robert Langdon. The Da Vinci Code film premiered in 2006.

In 2009, Brown’s third Langdon book, The Lost Symbol, sold more than a million copies on its first day. That same year the movie Angels & Demons premiered successfully raking in $485.9 million at the box office.

Brown said in a 2006 interview that he has ideas for 12 books about Robert Langdon. A little more than a decade later in 2017 Brown published his fifth book in the Langdon series.

Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon Adaptions

Upon hearing the name Robert Langdon, many will immediately picture the charismatic and stoic Tom Hanks gallivanting across cities in pursuit of a mystery to solve.

In addition to the popular film franchise, however, there are other Robert Langdon adaptions you might not be aware of. Dan Brown’s popular character is the star of a new TV show, The Lost Symbol, and a stage play of The Da Vinci Code will premiere in 2022.

Film Franchise

Adapted out of order from the books, the films have nonetheless been a box office sensation. The three films star Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon and Ron Howard is the director.

The Da Vinci Code, adapted from the book of the same name, premiered in 2000. Audrey Tautou joined Hanks and stars as Sophie Neveu. The film was a great success and made $760 million at the box office.

The next movie to premiere was Angels & Demons, which is actually the first book in the Robert Langdon book series. It premiered in 2009 and was another success making $485.9 million at the box office. In this film Hanks is joined on screen by Ayelet Zurer as Vittoria Vetra.

The latest installment in this film franchise, Inferno, premiered in 2016. Again, it was adapted from the book of the same name. This time Hanks stars alongside Felicity Jones as Sienna Brooks. The film made $220 million at the box office.

In a 2016 interview Hanks explained the decision to skip a film adaption of The Lost Symbol was in part due to the similarities in plot to the first two movies.

But fans of The Lost Symbol fear not, because a screen adaption recently premiered.

Portraying a younger Langdon in order to fit within the film franchise, Peacock picked up Dan Brown’s third Langdon book and gave it a home. The show premiered on September 26, 2021 and is currently available to stream. The first season has ten episodes, and the finale will premiere in November 2021.

It stars Ashley Zukerman as a younger Robert Langdon, Eddie Izzard as Langdon’s mentor Peter Solomon, and Valorie Curry as Catherine Solomon, Peter’s daughter.

Stage Adaption

Another exciting Robert Langdon adaption will make its way into the world soon. The Da Vinci Code will premiere as a stage play and begin a 35-city UK tour on January 15 th , 2022.

The stage play is adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel. The director is Luke Sheppard. It will star Nigel Harman as Robert Langdon, Danny John-Jules as Sir Leigh Teabing, and Hannah Rose Caton as Sophie Neveu. All casting and touring information are on its official website.

As well, they discover the murdered curator was a member of the Priory of Sion. This secret society included members such as Sir Issac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci himself. It had tasked the curator with guarding a lucrative historical secret. It is now up to Langdon and Neveu to decipher this puzzle. They must also avoid whoever is stalking them, or else this ancient truth will be lost forever.

3. The Lost Symbol

Once again Robert Langdon finds himself summoned at the beginning of this third novel. This time, however, the Harvard symbologist is there to deliver a lecture in the US Capitol Building. But an evening could rarely go smoothly with Langdon involved.

Langdon realizes the only way to save this prominent Mason and philanthropist is to accept the mystical invitation. In another harrowing journey, Langdon and Brooks must unravel a series of codes. The codes are the work of a brilliant scientist. This mastermind is equally obsessed with the end of the world and Dante Alighieri’s The Inferno. The result is another brilliant combination of history, classical art, and thrilling mystery.

Origin

The latest novel in the Robert Langdon series is another entertaining combination of Dan Brown’s beloved themes. Langdon arrives at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend a major announcement by one of his former students. The breakthrough announcement promises to answer two of the fundamental questions of human existence and consequently change the face of science forever. Langdon’s former student, Edmond Kirsch, is now a renowned global figure and a billionaire. As a result, Langdon must make a desperate attempt to flee Bilbao. With him is the museum director who worked with Kirsch to orchestrate the evening: Ambra Vidal. Dan Brown is an author who for most of us doesn’t need an introduction. The Dan Brown books for his Robert Langdon series have sold millions of dollars all over the years, making the author one of the highest-paid authors ever. In fact, in 2018 he was the fifth highest-paid author after James Patterson, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and John Grisham. The Da Vinci Code is known even by people who haven’t touched a book in decades due to the movie featuring Tom Hanks.

For anyone who hasn’t read the entire Robert Langdon series, here is the order of the Dan Brown books.

  • Angels And Demons  (Robert Langdon #1), 2000
  • The Da Vinci Code  (Robert Langdon #2), 2003
  • The Lost Symbol  (Robert Langdon #3), 2009
  • Inferno  (Robert Langdon #4), 2013
  • Origin (Robert Langdon #5), 2015
  • Digital Fortress , 1998
  • Deception Point , 2002

Reading the Dan Brown books in order for his Robert Langdon series is not necessary, as each story is independent from the other. However, as many of us, thriller book readers enjoy reading our series in order, I do recommend picking them starting from Angels & Demons. If you have already read The Da Vinci Code, you can always go back and read the first Robert Langdon book now.

Angels and Demons

Robert Langdon is a world-known symbologist who is asked to go to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol that was burned into the chest of a physicist that was recently murdered. His research uncovers a conspiracy against the Catholic Church by an ancient organization, the famous Illuminati. To save the church, Robert has to work together with Vittoria Vetra, an Italian scientist who helps him find his way into the Illuminati’s secret vault.

The Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown’s most famous book to date, The Da Vinci Code features once again Robert Langdon, this time in Paris. Another body has been found, yet again carved with ancient symbols, and Robert is the only one who can find out what they mean. This time, he works with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu, and together they follow a strange trail of clues leading to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci. And once again, we meet another secret society, this time Priory of Sion, which had as a member not only the dead curator but also famous people like Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci himself.

The Lost Symbol

Now Robert Langdon is back in the U.S., giving an evening lecture at the Capitol Building. During the presentation, a strange artifact is discovered in the building, one that has five strange symbols on it. Robert Langdon, being a symbologist by trade, is asked to help translate. Shortly after, however, Langdon’s mentor, Peter Solomon, so Robert now has to really devote his time to the symbols inscribed on the artifact to find his way to Peter to save him. The whole story coveres only 24 hours, but what action-packed hours those are!

In Inferno, Robert Langdon finds himself back in Italy. This time, however, he wakes up in a hospital with no recollection of his last 36 hours. Within his items, however, he discovers a strange item, and connected to it he discovers that a ruthless assassin is after him. Now he has doctor Sienna Brooks as ally, and together they not only try to flee the assassin but also to put the pieces of the puzzle together before it’s too late. As usual with the Dan Brown books, the story takes place within a day, so the action is non-stop.

Origin, the latest offering by Dan Brown, finds Robert Langdon, our favorite symbologist at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. He is attending a major announcement of a discovery that is supposed to change the future forever. The presentation held by Edmond Kirsch, a billionaire and former student of Langdon, reveals two things so strange and Earth-shattering that they could, indeed, change the course of history of humankind. When during the presentation chaos starts, the discovery is in grave danger of being forever lost. Now Robert Langdon, accompanied by the museum director Ambra Vidal, who used to work with Kirsch, are not only fleeing from danger from Bilbao, but also trying to stop all those who want to silence the voice and legacy of Edmund Kirsch forever.

Digital Fortress

The book that started Dan Brown’s writing career. Susan Fletcher is a cryptographer for the NSA. They ask her for help when they encounter a code they cannot break. She soon discovers that the unbreakable code holds the entire NSA hostage in a way that it could cripple the U.S. Intelligence for good if is not stopped in time before it’s released.

Deception Point

Deception Point takes us to the Arctic ice where NASA satellites have discovered a strange rare object buried deep in the ice. The discovery, if revealed, could have major implications for the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, however, The White House first needs to make sure the discovery is not a dud. So they send intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton on site along with a team of experts to investigate. However, what awaits them there is something else entirely. Not only assassins are now chasing them but the discovery itself could bring the whole world into chaos if revealed.

Dan Brown

Following high school graduation in 1982, he attended Amherst (Massachusetts) College, from where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in English and Spanish. After college, he wanted to pursue a career in music, so he moved to California to become a song writer and pianist. During this time, he also taught Spanish at Beverly Hills Preparatory School to pay the bills. This is where he met his wife, Blythe Newlon, who was 12 years older than he was.

His music career never really took off, so he decided to dabble in writing. He wrote his debut book in 1987, which he titled 187 Men to Avoid . The book, co-authored with his wife Blythe Newlon, was a women’s dating survival guide for those who want to find Mr. Right, and it was published in 1995 under the pen name Danielle Brown.

In 1993, when he completely gave up the idea of a career in music, Dan Brown returned to Exeter faculty to teach English and creative writing. This is the very school that sparked the inspiration for the first Dan Brown book, Digital Fortress. It happened after the US Secret Service made a visit to the school to talk to a student who, in an email, made a joke about killing the president.

This incident made an impact on the author, as he began becoming interested in covert intelligent agencies, clandestine organizations, and code breakers. Two years later, Angels and Demons was published, which became the first Robert Langdon book. Each of the next Dan Brown books had some secrets, clandestine organizations, and politics involved in one way or another.

Also, the book that made an impact on Dan was Sidney Sheldon’s Doomsday Conspiracy. After reading this book, he thought he could write like this as well, and the rest is history.

Dan Brown became a full-time author in 1996. He married Blythe the next year, in 1997, and in 1998, the first Dan Brown book, Digital Fortress , was published.

The book that really made Dan Brown famous was the Da Vinci Code . It sold 6,000 copies on the very first day it was released. During the first week of publication, it climbed to the top of New York Times Bestseller List. The book soon became the fastest-selling adult novel ever with around 40 million copies sold.

In 2004, Dan Brown and his siblings, Valerie and Gregory, established Richard G. Brown Technology Endowment , donating $2.2 million to the Phillips Exeter Academy. This was a way for them to honor their father who taught at the academy for 25 years. The money would provide computers and other high-tech equipment to students in need. The author’s father, Richard Brown, taught there until 1997 when he retired. Over the years, he wrote a textbook Advanced Mathematics: Precalculus With Discrete Mathematics and Data Analysis , which is still used for teaching advanced mathematics. In 1989, Richard Brown was awarded by President George H.W. Bush the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching

By early 2006, Dan Brown’s bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code , earned the author close to $200,000. The same year, Random House, the author’s publishing house, was battling a copyright infringement case started by authors Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh who sued Random House. They said that Dan Brown stole their ideas for The Da Vinci Code from their book Holy Blood Holy Grail , which was published back in 1982 and took the authors five years to write. Random House won that case when a high court judge rejected the claim.

Incidentally, it was also 2006 when The Da Vinci Code was released at the cinema, as a bestselling movie featuring Tom Hanks, directed by Ron Howard. Dan Brown was credited with being the executive producer and scriptwriter.

Especially after the movie was out, it garnered a lot of attention, most of it good, but also some bad. Many religious institutes, especially the Catholic Church called it “Anti Christian.”

Is The Da Vinci Code a true story? Dan Brown mentioned that 99% is true in terms of historical information included, even though the actual story involving Dan Brown is fiction. At the beginning of the book, the author added a section titled Facts, where he describes what is real within the pages.

Dan Brown himself wrote the following about what is true in his book:

99 percent of it is true. All of the architecture, the art, the secret rituals, the history, all of that is true, the Gnostic gospels. All of that is … all that is fiction, of course, is that there’s a Harvard symbologist named Robert Langdon, and all of his action is fictionalized. But the background is all true.

The Lost Symbol , the third Robert Langdon book, was released three years later, in 2009. While Angels and Demons (2009), The Da Vinci Code (2006), and Inferno (2016) were made into movies, The Lost Symbol will become a TV series with the tentative title Langdon . It is set to air in 2020.

What is Dan Brown’s new book called? The latest book written by Dan Brown is called Origin, published in 2015. Since there are usually 3-5 years between the Dan Brown books’ releases, we should expect a new novel by the author any time soon now.

In addition to writing books, Dan Brown is also teaching writing thrillers. He has a masterclass on this very topic, which is used by many new and upcoming writers who want to learn how to write books better.

An unholy mixture of cheese and corn, with all the twists and turns of a 12-inch ruler. Yet is wonderfully addictive. (Daily Telegraph for The Da Vinci Code) Dan Brown has to be one of the best, smartest, and most accomplished writers in the country. THE DA VINCI CODE is many notches above the intelligent thriller; this is pure genius. (Nelson DeMille) Dan Brown is my new must-read.  THE DA VINCI CODE is fascinating and absorbing — perfect for history buffs, conspiracy nuts, puzzle lovers or anyone who appreciates a great, riveting story.  I loved this book. ( Harlan Coben ) The Da Vinci Code sets the hook-of-all-hooks, and takes off down a road that is as eye-opening as it is page-turning.  You simply cannot put this book down.  Thriller readers everywhere will soon realize Dan Brown is a master. ( Vince Flynn ) I would never have believed that this is my kind of thriller, but I’m going to tell you something–the more I read, the more I had to read. In  The Da Vinci Code , Dan Brown has built a world that is rich in fascinating detail, and I could not get enough of it. Mr. Brown, I am your fan. (Robert Crais) Angels and Demons is one hell of a book — I had a hard time putting it down and I didn’t get any work done until I finished it. Congratulations to Dan Brown for crafting an intriguing, imaginative, and very suspenseful read. (Dale Brown) A brisk new book that pits creationism against science, and is liable to stir up as much controversy as  The Da Vinci Code  did. In  Origin , the brash futurist Edmond Kirsch comes up with a theory so bold, so daring that, as he modestly thinks to himself in Brown’s beloved italics, “ It will not shake your foundations. It will shatter them. ” Kirsch is of course addressing The World, because that’s the scale on which Brown writes.  Brown and serious ideas: they do fit together, never more than they have in  Origin . Quick Facts

Dan Brown’s Best Books 📚

Dan Brown is one of the most popular contemporary thriller novelists. His masterful combination of action with mystery, historical references and scientific elements in an outstanding way to create action thrillers that keep the reader at the edge of their seat has rightfully earned him his spot as one of the New York Times best sellers of all time.

Emma Baldwin

Written by Emma Baldwin

B.A. in English, B.F.A. in Fine Art, and B.A. in Art Histories from East Carolina University.

His popularity as a master of thriller novels rests mostly on the Robert Langdon series which was brought to the world’s attention after the publication of the ‘Da Vinci Code ‘ in 2003. Other widely known books by him include ‘ Digital Fortress’ (1998), ‘Angels and Demons’ (2000), ‘ Deception Point’ (2001), ‘The Lost Symbol’ (2009), ‘Inferno’ (2013), and ‘Origin’ (2017) .

The Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown Digital Art

‘The Da Vinci Code’  is not Dan Brown’s first novel, it’s his fourth actually, but it is his most widely read and commercially successful book. It is the book that established his reputation as a leading author, if not the best in the thriller genre.

It features a tale of murder, conspiracies, cover-ups, and houses theories that negate almost everything the world has come to believe about Christianity (which is why it caught so much attention). The plot follows Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu after a murder in the Louvre Museum in Paris gets them involved in a battle between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei over documented evidence that Jesus took Mary Magdalene as a wife.

The book represents Brown Stance that believers need to make some research on their faith and not just take whatever the church presents as their true history. It is one of four books by Brown that have TV adaptations.

Angels and Demons

This is Dan Brown’s second book and the first of the Robert Langdon Series. Brown introduced the character of Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist and expert on the ancient anti-religious sect Illuminati, who becomes the protagonist for the rest of the books in the series.

The plot of ‘Angels and Demons ‘ follows Langdon after CERN director Maximilian Kohler hires him to authenticate an ambigram of the word “Illuminati” that was branded on his murdered employee, physicist Leonardo Vetra. It is later found out that a canister containing antimatter- a substance with destructive potential comparable to a nuclear weapon- was stolen from the physicist and was set to be used to destroy Vatican City. Now Langdon and the daughter of the deceased physicist must work together to stop the plot.

‘ Angels & Demons ‘ was a bestseller, and it was later adapted into a film that starred Tom Hanks in 2009.

The Lost Symbol

‘ The Lost Symbol’ is another famous book by Dan Brown which is part of the Robert Langdon series. He released the book after taking a six-year hiatus from writing, and that suspenseful waiting definitely contributed to the sales as it became one of the fastest-selling adult novels in history, pushing one million in hardcover versions on its first day of release.

Like in ‘ The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘Angels & Demons’ , Brown brings into his story another fraternity, The Free Masons. It begins with Robert Langdon being invited to the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. to deliver a lecture, during which he realizes that his mentor, Peter Solomon, has been kidnapped. As a result, Robert Langdon joins forces with Katherine, Solomon’s sister, to follow a trail of clues and encoded symbols to find out the truth about the disappearance of his mentor.

Deception Point

‘Deception Point’ was published after ‘Angels & Demons,’ and even though a lot of readers were disappointed that it did not feature the already beloved Robert Langdon, it is still an awesome work. Brown was able to show his outstanding writing ability and prove that no matter the setting, he was still a master of suspense and conspiracy theories.

The story tells of White House intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton and her role in confirming proof by NASA of extraterrestrial life. When Rachel arrives at the North pole, she meets Michael Toland, and a series of events lead both to uncover a huge deception that was made by NASA scientists to score a fake victory for NASA and the white house. Now Rachel and Michael have to run for their lives while trying to expose the conspiracy between NASA and the white house.

The last addition to the Robert Langdon series so far, ‘ Origin ‘ was top-rated as it sold more than 30 million copies as of 2013 and spent some time at the number one spot of The New York Times bestseller list.

Usually, Brown’s books with religious themes posit theories regarding religion and the past, but ‘Origin’ tells a story of religion and the future. It tells the story of Langdon after he is invited to Spain by his former student and billionaire futurist, Edmond Kirsch, who plans to unveil a discovery that he says will change the face of science, change the way people view religion and provide the answers to two of life’s most important questions: “Where did we come from?” and “Where are we going?”

But the Billionaire is killed before he has a chance to show his discovery to the world, now Langdon must put on his detective hat and uncover Kirsch’s discovery before it is lost forever.

Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s poem about a man’s journey to paradise by passing through hell, the story begins with Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon finding himself in an Italian hospital. With no memory of the past 36 hours and an unknown object with a biohazard sign hidden in his belongings, he must recall what brought him to Italy, solve the mystery of the biohazard object and stop a mass genocide plot by using clues from Dante’s ‘ Divine Comedy ‘.

‘ Inferno ‘ is the fourth in Dan Brown’s series of books featuring the character Robert Langdon and the third book by Dan Brown to have a movie adaptation. As Dan Brown’s trademark, Inferno takes us through famous museums, old crypts, and celebrated tourist spots and has a perfect mix of classical Italian art, references to history and literature, in addition to cutting-edge science, in this entertaining thriller.

Digital Fortress

‘ Digital Fortress ‘ is Brown’s first published book after transitioning from music to writing. Even though it might not be one of his most impressive writing accomplishments and is not a part of the Robert Langdon Series, it is still an interesting read with a decent plot.

‘Digital Fortress’ was Brown’s way of calling out electronic surveillance by the government and the ethical issues surrounding the existence of such technology. The story follows NSA deputy director of operations, Commander Trevor Strathmore, and his invention/ use of a top-secret super-computer that can crack any encryption code in an hour or two. Things, however, get complicated when his computer cannot crack an encryption algorithm written by ex-NSA genius Ensei Tankado.

Which is Dan Brown’s best book?

While his best book is subjective and depends on the taste of the reader, his most popular book is, without a doubt, ‘ The Da Vinci Code .’

How long does it take Dan Brown to write a book?

There’s no definite duration it takes Dan Brown to write a book. It mostly depends on the preparations and research needed to write effectively. For ‘ The Da Vinci Code’, it took four years. Before writing ‘Inferno’ he spent over two years in Florence researching for the book. ‘The Lost Symbol’ was released six years after his last book.

What is the Robert Langdon series?

They are books by Dan Brown that feature Harvard professor and symbology expert Robert Langdon. There are currently 5 in number, with ‘ Angels & Demons ‘ being the first and ‘ Origin’ being the current last.

Dan Brown Academy meticulously edited my draft to meet the strict requirements of publishing platforms, resulting in the approval of my book by both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I'm incredibly grateful to the team for their invaluable assistance.

DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY TELL YOU. I contracted with Dan Brown Academy for ghostwriting and completing my book. Not only they do not possess sufficient writing skills, but they cannot follow instructions! I paid them good funds for the writing and illustrations. All their emails about refunds are false. They lie and lie to get you to pay. I engaged my attorney to get my refund for work that took over seven months and was never completed! What a scam! I cannot understand how they can be a part of Dan Brown's Academy.

On April 10, 2023 I purchased a publishing contract with Dan Brown Academy. It's now Dec.18 2023 , and in short, this publishing company that is owned by the author, Dan Brown took $5000 and has failed to fulfill their service contract agreement. The project manager, Jordan Delgato ghosted me after asking a revised illustration for the book cover in July 2023. This violates their service contract stating that all content will be produced within 1 to 3 months. please refer to the pictures of the service contract and of the text message communication. I also reached out to their website and spoke with customer service. They basically told me to go pound sand and now I have to get a lawyer and take them to small claims court to recover my funds for their actions.

15 of the Most Influential Books of All-Time

Posted: December 7, 2023 | Last updated: December 7, 2023

Influential writing, like most everything else in the world, is purely subjective. What I consider influential might not be what you consider influential – and that’s fine. However, while not everyone will agree, most will agree that there are certain works that were created throughout the course of history that tend to go on every list of most influential books. For instance, it’s widely agreed that The Holy Bible is one of, if not the most influential book in the history of literature regardless of your personal beliefs and religious affiliation. Read on to find out which 15 books are among the most influential.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe

In 1937 it was virtually unheard of for an African American woman to publish a book that touched on both slavery and women’s rights. In a time when racism and segregation was becoming even worse than it was in previous years, Zora  Neale Hurston took it upon herself to do just that. Their Eyes Were Watching God is the story of a woman who grows up an unimportant girl and transforms her life. The book follows Janie, the main character, through three marriages and her cognitive ability to stand up for herself against the men in her life and become a better person.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

Written in 1951, this book is no longer one only for adults. It’s one many teens find influential today, because the story touches on the difficult lives of teens. The main character, Holden Caulfield, is expelled from an exclusive prep school and the following days discuss in detail his life and his adventures in dealing with growing up. It’s a book of extreme teen angst that is beautifully written, following Holden as he explores New York City and engages with a number of people from all walks of life who help him in his quest.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Moby Dick is one of the most captivating stories of all time. It follows the life of a man by the name of Ishmael who boards a ship to find work. The ship comes complete with a very mysterious captain, Ahab, who walks around on a peg leg fashioned from the jaw of a sperm whale. He recounts the story of the loss of his leg to a sperm whale who goes by Moby Dick, and he takes his crew on a man hunt to find and kill the whale he considers evil. The harrowing tale is one considered highly influential.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Charles Dickens really nails the story of so many in his famous novel, Great Expectations. Pip is an orphan from the UK who becomes an exceptionally wealthy man filled with arrogance and attitude. During his rise to wealth, he makes the decision to abandon those who’ve always been by his side in favor of those who are not his true friends. As events in Pip’s life begin to unfold, he is greatly humbled. Add to that the fact that this is the book that introduces the world to Miss Havisham, and you have one influential novel.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Written in 1925, The Great Gatsby is one of the most influential books of all time. The cast of characters are truly inspirational and entertaining, and the plot is on point. The book is set in the 1920s and follows the theme of change, decadence and indulgence. Jay Gatsby is a mysterious and very young millionaire obsessed with a socialite. The scene is a fictional Long Island town in 1922, and the storyline is filled with idealism and social upheaval. It’s one of the most prolific stories of all time, adapted only recently into a famous movie.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Emily Bronte died only a year after her only novel was published, which is a crying shame as her talent is immeasurable. In Wuthering Heights, we follow the story of Heathcliff, a man so in love with a woman by the name of Catherine that he is willing to destroy anyone and anything that comes in between him and the love of his life. The story of true love is epic and unforgettable, and it’s the perfect example of the power that greed and jealousy has over a person’s life and its destructive abilities.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

There are few tales that are as captivating and interesting as Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen brings to the table a rare and interesting story of a woman by the name of Elizabeth Bennet, who deals heavily with issues many people might not consider important today, but provide insight into what could be the cause of the downfall of basic etiquette, good manners and a healthy upbringing. Reading this novel, you’re inspired to believe that these basic forms of etiquette could actually change the world in a manner so necessary in current times.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Charlotte Bronte is the sister of Emily Bronte, the author Wuthering Heights. Jane Eyre is a story that is inspiring and influential, and has so far stood the test of time. Jane Eyre endures a difficult life being raised by her cruel aunt after losing her parents until she is sent to boarding school where her life becomes much more enjoyable. She grows up a teacher and eventually decides to take on a different career and falls in love with her mysterious employer, eventually agreeing to marry him. The story of Jane Eyre continues to come with twists and turns no one expected to see, and follows her life with abandon.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

This iconic and classic American novel follows a poor family who loses their home and their farm in Oklahoma during the Great Depression. Left with nothing but hopeless despair, the family is left wondering where to go and what to do, making the ultimate decision to head west for California. As the story unfolds, readers are taken back to a time when life might not be so different than what it is today. The story is so influential it is one of the most assigned reading assignments in college and high school courses throughout the country.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

Don Quixote is the ultimate story of love. The main character is madly in love with a woman by the name of Dulcinea, who inspires him to leave his village and employ himself as the kind of man who does good deeds and acts of chivalry. It’s a simple look at the life of a man in love, and his personal story. The book was written in the early 17th century and remains one of the most influential books of all time, often being assigned in college courses to those who want to further their education.

Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes

Set in 1805 Russia, War and Peace is the story of a handful of characters of different financial upbringing morals and ethics. The story follows their lives in the midst of Napoleon’s conquest of Western Europe. As the story unfolds, we see the loss of fortune, the loss of marriage and love, the beginning of change and the beginning of a war that will forever change the lives of the characters introduced at the beginning of the novel. The story is infuriating, touching and impossible to put down until you complete the novel. It remains one of the most influential books of all time.

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

Written somewhere around the time of 380 BC, Plato, one of history’s greatest philosophers, wrote The Republic. The book is widely read, even today. About law, justice and order, the book was an answer to the question of what motivates people to make the decisions they make and behave in the manner they do. The book explores the culture and society as it was then and remains largely still today, defining the class system and the desire of people to fulfill the roles they were born to play. It’s an intelligent, well-written theory.

The Republic by Plato

This particular book is one of the most famed political writings in history, as well as one of the most influential. While it was written by Niccolo Machiavelli, it was five years after his death before the book was published in 1537. Politics and ethics have been one of the main themes of contention and confusion throughout the history of mankind, and this book explores those contentions. At the time it was written, it directly contradicted the popular Catholic beliefs of the same subject. However, it was considered the first novel that delves into modern politics and philosophy.

The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli

Written by more than 40 people over the course of 15 centuries, The Holy Bible is the most sacred book in the world, without question. Those who are not affiliated with religion even agree on this simple fact. The Bible is the account of the world when Jesus lived and walked, his deeds and his ultimate sacrifice. Broken down into two testaments, the New and the Old, the Bible recounts the story of Jesus’ life and crucifixion as told by his 12 Apostles, who were firsthand witnesses to his glory and his existence. It’s the most-read book in the world.

'Lies': Fani Willis fights push to remove her from Donald Trump Georgia case

The day's drama included willis running to the courtroom and declaring testimony a lie. from the sidelines, trump blasted the proceedings, and a n.y. judge set a different criminal trial for march..

Editor's note: This file summarizes the news from the Fani Willis hearing on Thursday, Feb. 15. For the latest news on the hearing , please visit our live updates file for Friday, Feb. 16 .

ATLANTA − Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is fighting for her professional reputation and the biggest case of her career as former President Donald Trump and several codefendants try to get her, the special prosecutor she's having an affair with , and the entire DA's office thrown off Trump's sprawling Georgia election racketeering case .

In a day of drama that featured Willis running to the courtroom and declaring that witnesses were lying, the fireworks included talk of a rented cabin, trips to Aruba and a Norwegian cruise. In another state, Donald Trump ranted that the whole show was rigged, even as a New York judge set a trial for a different criminal case for March.

The hearing marks the first time a judge is examining if allegations surrounding the relationship between Willis and Nathan Wade, the private attorney she hired to oversee the case , are enough to disqualify one or both of them – and potentially even to dismiss the Georgia election case altogether after three years of investigation and prosecution.

Willis says in court filings that her relationship with Wade began after she brought him on to helm the Trump prosecution, and it has no bearing on the criminal case. But an attorney for Trump codefendant Michael Roman says the defense has witnesses who can prove that their relationship began well before Willis hired Wade to oversee the prosecution.

Willis fought to quash the hearing − she called it "a ticket to the circus" − but Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on Monday scheduled two days of testimony "because I think it's possible that the facts alleged by the defendant could result in disqualification."

Defense lawyers led by Ashleigh Merchant are trying to remove Willis and Wade from the case based on her allegedly profiting from Fulton County payments to Wade through their relationship.

Here is what is unfolding in today's courtroom action:

More: Fani Willis admits to relationship with prosecutor. What does that mean for the Trump case?

''You don't have to yell at me to make me understand'

The clashes between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and defense lawyers repeated throughout hours of testimony.

Steve Sadow, one of Donald Trump’s lawyers, tried to lead through a series of questions about the condo where Willis lived during from about February 2021 to January 2022.

The time frame is significant because defense lawyers are trying to disqualify Willis and prosecutor Nathan Wade from the case because of a romantic relationship that began in spring 2022. Willis acknowledged that Wade visited the condo occasionally, but not other prosecutors.

“He certainly has come and picked me up,” Willis said. “I don’t remember him being in that condo a lot.”

But as Sadow probed about who else stayed at the condo and she quibbled about the working, his voice rose.

“You don’t have to yell at me to make me understand,” Willis said.

Sadow’s voice rose again during disputes about his questions about her relationship with Wade.

“Please do not yell at me,” Willis said.

DA Willis routinely keeps thousands of dollars in cash on hand

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she learned from her father to keep cash on hand, either at home for expenses or in a pocket book to be able to bail out of a bad date.

Willis said she routinely has at least a few thousand dollars and as much as $15,000 at home. She said she repaid prosecutor Nathan Wade for trips together to Belize, California and Aruba from that supply.

“If you tell me it’s a G, you’ll get $1,000 back,” Willis said.

Willis advises all women to bring at least $200 in a pocket on dates so they can leave if necessary.

“When you go on a date, you should have cash in your pocket,” she said.

While she couldn’t pinpoint the source of each dollar of her savings, Willis strongly denied getting the money anywhere other than her own paychecks.

“I’m sure the source of it is the work, sweat and tears of me,” Willis said.

‘I’m not on trial’: Willis

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis remained combative throughout her testimony in a hearing where defense lawyers are trying to disqualify her from prosecuting former President Donald Trump and 14 co-defendants.

When defense lawyer Ashleigh Merchant asked about her office refusing to provide her travel records, Willis said she herself denied the release because it was personal information.

“You’ve been intrusive in people’s personal lives. You’re confused. You think I’m on trial. These people are on trial for trying to steal and election in 2020,” Willi said, gesturing to the defense table. “I’m not on trial no matter how hard you try to put me on trial.”

‘That’s a lie’: Willis denies relationship with Wade began before 2022

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened her testimony clashing with defense lawyer Ashleigh Merchant, accusing the legal opponent of lying about her in trying to remove her from the election interference case against Donald Trump and 14 remaining co-defendants.

Willis said accusations that she began the relationship with a special prosecutor, Nathan Wade, in 2019 soon after meeting him at a judicial conference. Willis told Merchant that it was offensive to insinuate that Willis would sleep with a new acquaintance on the same day.

“That’s a lie,” Willis said. “It’s highly offensive when someone lies on you.”

Another witness, Robin Bryant-Yeartie, who knew Willis since college and worked in the district attorney’s office, testified that Willis began dating Wade in 2019. Willis strongly denied that, agreeing with Wade that the relationship began in 2022.

“It’s highly offensive when someone lies on you,” Willis said.

Willis said Yeartie is no longer her friend.

“I think she betrayed our friendship,” Willis said.

A television drama? Georgia DA Fani Willis agrees to testify in election interference hearing

Like a scene in a television drama, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis dropped her refusal to testify in a hearing about her relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade and dramatically entered the courtroom to testify as members of the audience gasped.

“I’m ready to go,” Willis said.

Defense lawyers Ashleigh Merchant and Craig Gillen had been arguing that her testimony was crucial to corroborate Wades affidavit and testimony that Willis reimbursed thousands of dollars in travels costs with him in cash. In addition, another witness said the relationship began in 2019, rather than in 2022, as Wade testified.

“There are deep concerns that that affidavit is false and that Ms. Willis knew it was false,” Gillen said. “It cries out for her testimony.”

Prosecutors initially sought to block her testimony. But Willis showed up to oblige.

Trump: Willis hearing is a 'game changer'

After his New York hush money hearing ended, Trump began weighing in on the Willis hearing by posting clips of television coverage and adding sardonic comments.

"IT'S A GAME CHANGER," Trump said in one Truth Social post.

In another post, Trump said it is "game over" for the Georgia election case, but that is far from clear at this point.

The hearing affects Willis more than the case against Trump.

Judge scolds co-defendant for outburst during Georgia hearing

Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee scolded one of the co-defendants in the election interference case, Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer, after a minor outburst during a hearing Thursday.

A lawyer for another defendant, Ashleigh Merchant, was in the midst of asking prosecutor Nathan Wade about spending on travel with District Attorney Fani Willis. Wade testified that Willis shared the expenses by reimbursing him with cash, but that he didn’t have any records of it.

“It was cash,” Wade said. “She didn’t give me any checks.”

At that point, Shafer made a noticeable outburst.

“Mr. Shafer, you’ll step out if you do that again,” McAfee said.

Never went to an ATM together

Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade said that while Fani Willis paid him many thousands of dollars in cash as reimbursement for the trips they took together that he put on his credit card, he kept no records of ATM deposits or anything else to corroborate that.

Defense lawyer Craig Gillen pressed Wade on that repeatedly as part of a line of questioning aimed at determining whether Wade used county money he received as special prosecutor for the trips and that Willis derived some financial benefit from it.

After Willis reimbursed him in several cases, including one trip that he put $2,794 on his credit card for, “did you scamper down to the ATM with Ms. Willis” to deposit the money, creating a record of the payment, Gillen asked.

Wade responded that he never went with Willis to an ATM together.

“You don’t have a single solitary deposit slip to document depositing … these thousands of dollars,” the money?” Gillen asked.

“Not a one,” Wade responded.

“Do you have a place in your house that you stack up all this cash Mis Willis paid you?” Gillen asked.

No, Wade responded. Over more than 15 minutes of questioning, Wade said he has no away of documenting any of the case Willis purportedly gave him. And he said that in a discussion of the controversy with Willis, he didn’t ask her if she had a way of documenting that she reimbursed him for trips to Aruba and elsewhere.

Harsh questions continue into Wade’s relationship with Willis

Another defense lawyer hammered prosecutor Nathan Wade over his sexual relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis, despite providing sworn statements in his divorce that he hadn’t entertained women.

Wade replied “none” in a statement May 30, 2023, to written questions in his divorce about whether he had a romantic relationship or entertained women.

Craig Gillen, a lawyer for co-defendant David Shafer, asked whether Wade had had sex with Willis by then. He also asked whether he had entertained

“I’m not here to jump into some salacious bedroom situation,” Gillen said.

Wade replied to the series of questions: “Yes.”

But Wade continued to argue that his marriage was irretrievably broken in 2015, which was why he answered the written questions with the term “none.”

“Your answer to this interrogatory is false, is it not, sir?” Gillen asked.

“No, it is not false,” Wade said.

Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee halted the line of questions at that point.

“You’ve made your point,” McAfee said.

Aruba and a Norwegian cruise: 'I book a lot of cabins'

During his testimony, Nathan Wade would often parse questions. He testified that he didn’t have credit card receipts, just monthly statements. He would stay overnight with Willis but never cohabitated with her.

When questioned about specific travel expenses, such as a $3,835 charge to Aruba or $1,276 for a Royal Caribbean cruise or a $3,387 Norwegian cruise, Wade often challenged the details. He traveled on the first part of the Caribbean cruise with his mother after her retirement, then flew to Aruba with Willis. The Norwegian cruise included his sisters and their husbands.

In each case, Wade said Willis reimbursed him for her share. Although he booked a Belize vacation in March 2023, Willis reimbursed him for the entire trip for his birthday, Wade said.

But Wade disputed that a $1,481 charge for a Tennessee cabin in August 2023 involved Willis.

“I book lots of cabins,” Wade said.

‘We’re private people’: Wade on relationship with Willis

Nathan Wade, a special prosecutor hired in the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump, said he and District Attorney Fani Willis weren’t trying to conceal their romantic relationship but were private people.

Defense lawyers are asking Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee to disqualify Wade and Willis from the case by arguing that she benefited from government payments to Wade through their relationship. But Willis and Wade contend the relationship began about March 2022 – after he was hired in November 2021 – and that she has not profited from it.

“I’ve never purchased a gift for Ms. Willis,” Wade testified Thursday, and they shared expenses when traveling together.

The couple would take day trips to Tennessee to avoid the spotlight in Fulton County, he said. Foreign trips were “a task,” he said, because Willis is widely recognized.

Wade said he and Willis weren’t trying to conceal the relationship but he didn’t discuss it with others.

“We’re private people,” Wade said. “Our relationship wasn’t a secret. It was private.”

Trump talks conspiracies over New York hush money case

As court let out for lunch in Atlanta, Trump posted an angry rant on his social media site, Truth Social, falsely claiming that the Biden administration had seized the reins of his New York hush money trial.

"Just left the Courthouse in Manhattan. Biden’s DOJ people have taken control of the case," he wrote. "There was NO CRIME, and almost all legal scholars are saying that."

Trump faces 34 felony counts in New York for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up hundreds of thousands of dollars in hush money payments he made to buy the silence of adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal ahead of the 2016 election. The trial will begin on March 25, Justice Juan Merchan ruled on Thursday.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, the former president's last serious challenger for the 2024 Republican nomination, said the former president’s legal problems will make him a weak general election candidate against President Joe Biden.

“Donald Trump is in court today,” Haley said on X. “There will be a verdict on another case tomorrow. And he has a trial starting March 25...All of this chaos will only lead to more losses for Republicans up and down the ticket.”

-- Dan Morrison and David Jackson

'I have no receipts'

Nathan Wade noted that he also submitted documents in his divorce case twice in 2021 and updated in May 2023 stating he had no receipts – “none” – for spending on travel, hotels and restaurants with women. Wade explained that he has statements from his credit card company, but not receipts.

“I have the statements,” Wade said. “I have no receipts.”

Wade testified that he and Willis shared travel expenses on trips to Belize, California and Aruba. Wade said he would often book the flights and hotels, and she would reimburse him for her share in cash, he said.

“She’s a very independent woman so she’s going to insist she carries her own weight,” Wade said of Willis. “She is going to pay her own way.”

'I was free to have a relationship': Nathan Wade

Prosecutor Nathan Wade clarified sworn statements about his relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis and how they split travel expenses during an extraordinary hearing over whether a judge will remove Willis from the case against former President Donald Trump and 14 remaining co-defendants.

Wade acknowledged a romantic relationship with Willis began about March 2022, despite denying extramarital affairs in a earlier document. Wade explained on the witness stand Thursday that he considered his marriage “irretrievably broken'' in 2015.

“I was free to have a relationship,” Wade said.

'I have to jog my memory'

Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney for one of Donald Trump's co-defendants, used her courtroom time to march through a long series of questions about how Nathan Wade paid for all their trip and how Fani Willis paid him back.

Wade, who squirmed a bit on the witness stand, said it was because she was a high-profile figure and wanted to keep a low profile -- except one expense which she paid herself.

"I have to jog my memory,'' Wade said, when asked about all the trips they took together.

Claims of attorney-client privilege derail testimony from Wade defense lawyer

Terrence Bradley, a lawyer who represented prosecutor Nathan Wade in his divorce, refused to testify at all about any potential relationship between Wade and District Attorney Fani Willis because of attorney-client privilege.

“I have a law license and I don’t want to lose it,” said Bradley, who acknowledged representing Wade starting in 2018 – before the relationship between Wade and Willis began in 2019.

But defense lawyers – including Ashleigh Merchant for Mike Roman and Steve Sadow for Donald Trump – argued that attorney client privilege applies only to legal advice and not to observations about the relationship.

“His observations are not privileged,” Merchant said.

Sadow said attorney client privilege governs communications, not what Bradley may have seen or heard.

“There is no such law that protects such confidences,” Sadow said. “There is no bar rule to that effect.”

To avoid the impasse, Merchant agreed to drop Bradley for the time being and instead begin questioning Robin Bryant-Yeartie, a longtime Willis associate who previously worked at the district attorney’s office.

Willis lawyer asks for sanctions against defense lawyer

The hearing before Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee started with a bang, with prosecutors asking for sanctions against defense lawyers and a defense lawyer arguing she could prove misconduct through her witnesses.

Adam Abbate, a lawyer for District Attorney Fani Willis, opened the hearing by arguing that defense lawyer Ashleigh Merchant had made misrepresentations in her allegations about Willis’ relationship with another prosecutor, Nathan Wade.

Abbate accused Merchant of seeking nothing more than “harassment and spectacle” and asked for sanctions for her lack of candor. “Those are misrepresentations that are not true,” Abbate said.

But Merchant, who represents Mike Roman, a former White House aide to Donald Trump and a co-defendant in the case, said she could prove her allegations through witnesses.

Merchant said one witness, Robin Bryant-Yeartie, a longtime Willis associate who previously worked at the district attorney’s office, was terrified of testifying but agreed to appear.

“I have a huge good-faith basis for everything I put in every single motion,” Merchant said.

Away from the Georgia action, Trump complains of a 'rigged city'

Donald Trump was focusing his attention Thursday on the courtroom drama in New York, where a judge earlier had ruled that a criminal case involving hush money paid on his behalf would go to trial on March 25.

"Instead of being in South Carolina and other states campaigning, I'm stuck here," Trump told reporters outside the courthouse.

Trump added: "I'll be here during the day and campaigning during the night."

Trump must attend the hush money trial.

During a rant to reporters, Trump accused New York officials of trying to derail his campaign, and complained about the high crime rate in the city.

"It's a rigged state," Trump said, using the same phrase he has applied to elections that went against him. "It's a rigged city."

-David Jackson

'There is no crime'

In addition to the Georgia hearing, Donald Trump was attending a hearing in New York in his hush money case, which he attacked as politically motivated.

“Heading to yet another Courthouse in Manhattan on a case that would have never been brought if I wasn’t running for Pres.,” Trump said on Truth Social as he traveled to the courthouse.

Claiming “there is no crime,” or case, Trump added: “They want it before Election - Could have been brought 3 years ago. They waited until Election Period.”

More: Why the Fani Willis hearing could decide the fate of Trump's Georgia election case

Where is Donald Trump today?

Donald Trump has another court hearing today , in New York, and he is focusing his efforts on that.

A New York judge will meet Thursday with Trump for what could become the  first criminal trial against  the former president, on  charges he falsified business records  to  pay women hush money .

Trump has pleaded not guilty in that case. He is in New York this morning for that hearing, which will determine whether a trial will move forward in March.

What is Donald Trump charged with?

The former president and a network of allies are accused in a sweeping 41-count indictment of operating a criminal enterprise to overturn the 2020 election. Prosecutors listed 161 separate events that allegedly show Trump's intention to steal the Georgia election after he was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden by a slim 11,779 votes.

These include an infamous January 2021 phone call in which Trump asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to eclipse Biden's total. “I just want to find 11,780 votes," Trump said, according to a recording of the call.

Eighteen codefendants were charged alongside Trump, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. Four codefendants, including firebrand attorney Sidney Powell and Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis, have pleaded guilty and agreed to assist the prosecution.

When does the Fani Willis hearing start on Thursday?

Judge Scott McAfee had originally set Thursday's hearing for 2 p.m., but he moved the start time back to 9:30 a.m., acknowledging the amount of testimony and evidence that could be presented to the court.

The evidentiary hearings in McAfee's courtroom are scheduled to continue on Friday . The judge isn't expected to immediately rule on Trump codefendant Michael Roman's request to disqualify DA Fani Willis.

It's unclear when McAfee will issue his decision.
