  • This promotes trust with your participants (in surveys, interviews, focus groups etc) that the information you collect will be used in a responsible manner and will always be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality throughout your process of research and analysis.
  • If the respondents feel comfortable with how you’re conducting ethical research, they are much more likely to offer quality responses to questions and therefore genuine knowledge can be gained by the you (the researcher).
  • Participants must be fully informed about the procedures and risks involved in the research, after they know everything, they must give their consent before you can continue. If they do not consent, then that's okay, don’t worry too much. There is more than one person you can ask always. But from experience, most people should be fine about it, but you must always do it regardless
  • As a researcher you must never put participants in awkward situations or ask them about topics that may be very sensitive them and thus make them feel uncomfortable
  • You, as a ethical researcher are open and honest about your research topic and its scope at all times along with the information or participation that you expect from participants

Throughout high school, you will be asked to complete research assignments for many of your classes. Your final product might be a paper, a project or an oral presentation. This guide offers a six-step process for acquiring and organizing information for a research assignment, with emphasis on writing a paper.

How to write an Annotated Bibliography

annotated resource list pip

A bibliography is an alphabetical list, by author, of the sources (books, journals, websites, etc) you have used to research and write your assignment.  A bibliography usually includes information such as the author, title, publisher and date. An annotation is a concise summary and/or evaluation of the value or relevance of each source.   An annotated bibliography combines these two elements and provides bibliographic information plus a summary and/ or evaluation of each of the sources you have used. An annotated bibliography may be one part of a larger assessment item.

This video is on preparing an annotated bibliography An annotated bibliography is similar to a reference list, however, annotated bibliographies include a paragraph of description and evaluation of the resource. Commonly, annotations are 100-200 words in length and the citation is usually not included in the word count. Your annotation will include the: - Citation - Description - Summary - Comment

Annotated resource list

At the end of your PIP, an annotated resource list is required. An annotated list is basically a summary of what a source is and how it contributes to the development of the PIP. In order to become familiar with annotating your methodologies for your PIP, you will annotate short texts to prepare you in creating an annotated resource list.

Reference and annotate the following articles (between 50-100 words)

MoSCoW Prioritization

What is moscow prioritization.

MoSCoW prioritization, also known as the MoSCoW method or MoSCoW analysis, is a popular prioritization technique for managing requirements.

The acronym MoSCoW represents four categories of initiatives: must-have, should-have, could-have, and won’t-have, or will not have right now. Some companies also use the “W” in MoSCoW to mean “wish.”

What is the History of the MoSCoW Method?

Software development expert Dai Clegg created the MoSCoW method while working at Oracle. He designed the framework to help his team prioritize tasks during development work on product releases.

You can find a detailed account of using MoSCoW prioritization in the Dynamic System Development Method (DSDM) handbook . But because MoSCoW can prioritize tasks within any time-boxed project, teams have adapted the method for a broad range of uses.

How Does MoSCoW Prioritization Work?

Before running a MoSCoW analysis, a few things need to happen. First, key stakeholders and the product team need to get aligned on objectives and prioritization factors. Then, all participants must agree on which initiatives to prioritize.

At this point, your team should also discuss how they will settle any disagreements in prioritization. If you can establish how to resolve disputes before they come up, you can help prevent those disagreements from holding up progress.

Finally, you’ll also want to reach a consensus on what percentage of resources you’d like to allocate to each category.

With the groundwork complete, you may begin determining which category is most appropriate for each initiative. But, first, let’s further break down each category in the MoSCoW method.

Start prioritizing your roadmap

Moscow prioritization categories.

Moscow

1. Must-have initiatives

As the name suggests, this category consists of initiatives that are “musts” for your team. They represent non-negotiable needs for the project, product, or release in question. For example, if you’re releasing a healthcare application, a must-have initiative may be security functionalities that help maintain compliance.

The “must-have” category requires the team to complete a mandatory task. If you’re unsure about whether something belongs in this category, ask yourself the following.

moscow-initiatives

If the product won’t work without an initiative, or the release becomes useless without it, the initiative is most likely a “must-have.”

2. Should-have initiatives

Should-have initiatives are just a step below must-haves. They are essential to the product, project, or release, but they are not vital. If left out, the product or project still functions. However, the initiatives may add significant value.

“Should-have” initiatives are different from “must-have” initiatives in that they can get scheduled for a future release without impacting the current one. For example, performance improvements, minor bug fixes, or new functionality may be “should-have” initiatives. Without them, the product still works.

3. Could-have initiatives

Another way of describing “could-have” initiatives is nice-to-haves. “Could-have” initiatives are not necessary to the core function of the product. However, compared with “should-have” initiatives, they have a much smaller impact on the outcome if left out.

So, initiatives placed in the “could-have” category are often the first to be deprioritized if a project in the “should-have” or “must-have” category ends up larger than expected.

4. Will not have (this time)

One benefit of the MoSCoW method is that it places several initiatives in the “will-not-have” category. The category can manage expectations about what the team will not include in a specific release (or another timeframe you’re prioritizing).

Placing initiatives in the “will-not-have” category is one way to help prevent scope creep . If initiatives are in this category, the team knows they are not a priority for this specific time frame.

Some initiatives in the “will-not-have” group will be prioritized in the future, while others are not likely to happen. Some teams decide to differentiate between those by creating a subcategory within this group.

How Can Development Teams Use MoSCoW?

Although Dai Clegg developed the approach to help prioritize tasks around his team’s limited time, the MoSCoW method also works when a development team faces limitations other than time. For example:

Prioritize based on budgetary constraints.

What if a development team’s limiting factor is not a deadline but a tight budget imposed by the company? Working with the product managers, the team can use MoSCoW first to decide on the initiatives that represent must-haves and the should-haves. Then, using the development department’s budget as the guide, the team can figure out which items they can complete.

Prioritize based on the team’s skillsets.

A cross-functional product team might also find itself constrained by the experience and expertise of its developers. If the product roadmap calls for functionality the team does not have the skills to build, this limiting factor will play into scoring those items in their MoSCoW analysis.

Prioritize based on competing needs at the company.

Cross-functional teams can also find themselves constrained by other company priorities. The team wants to make progress on a new product release, but the executive staff has created tight deadlines for further releases in the same timeframe. In this case, the team can use MoSCoW to determine which aspects of their desired release represent must-haves and temporarily backlog everything else.

What Are the Drawbacks of MoSCoW Prioritization?

Although many product and development teams have prioritized MoSCoW, the approach has potential pitfalls. Here are a few examples.

1. An inconsistent scoring process can lead to tasks placed in the wrong categories.

One common criticism against MoSCoW is that it does not include an objective methodology for ranking initiatives against each other. Your team will need to bring this methodology to your analysis. The MoSCoW approach works only to ensure that your team applies a consistent scoring system for all initiatives.

Pro tip: One proven method is weighted scoring, where your team measures each initiative on your backlog against a standard set of cost and benefit criteria. You can use the weighted scoring approach in ProductPlan’s roadmap app .

2. Not including all relevant stakeholders can lead to items placed in the wrong categories.

To know which of your team’s initiatives represent must-haves for your product and which are merely should-haves, you will need as much context as possible.

For example, you might need someone from your sales team to let you know how important (or unimportant) prospective buyers view a proposed new feature.

One pitfall of the MoSCoW method is that you could make poor decisions about where to slot each initiative unless your team receives input from all relevant stakeholders.

3. Team bias for (or against) initiatives can undermine MoSCoW’s effectiveness.

Because MoSCoW does not include an objective scoring method, your team members can fall victim to their own opinions about certain initiatives.

One risk of using MoSCoW prioritization is that a team can mistakenly think MoSCoW itself represents an objective way of measuring the items on their list. They discuss an initiative, agree that it is a “should have,” and move on to the next.

But your team will also need an objective and consistent framework for ranking all initiatives. That is the only way to minimize your team’s biases in favor of items or against them.

When Do You Use the MoSCoW Method for Prioritization?

MoSCoW prioritization is effective for teams that want to include representatives from the whole organization in their process. You can capture a broader perspective by involving participants from various functional departments.

Another reason you may want to use MoSCoW prioritization is it allows your team to determine how much effort goes into each category. Therefore, you can ensure you’re delivering a good variety of initiatives in each release.

What Are Best Practices for Using MoSCoW Prioritization?

If you’re considering giving MoSCoW prioritization a try, here are a few steps to keep in mind. Incorporating these into your process will help your team gain more value from the MoSCoW method.

1. Choose an objective ranking or scoring system.

Remember, MoSCoW helps your team group items into the appropriate buckets—from must-have items down to your longer-term wish list. But MoSCoW itself doesn’t help you determine which item belongs in which category.

You will need a separate ranking methodology. You can choose from many, such as:

  • Weighted scoring
  • Value vs. complexity
  • Buy-a-feature
  • Opportunity scoring

For help finding the best scoring methodology for your team, check out ProductPlan’s article: 7 strategies to choose the best features for your product .

2. Seek input from all key stakeholders.

To make sure you’re placing each initiative into the right bucket—must-have, should-have, could-have, or won’t-have—your team needs context.

At the beginning of your MoSCoW method, your team should consider which stakeholders can provide valuable context and insights. Sales? Customer success? The executive staff? Product managers in another area of your business? Include them in your initiative scoring process if you think they can help you see opportunities or threats your team might miss.

3. Share your MoSCoW process across your organization.

MoSCoW gives your team a tangible way to show your organization prioritizing initiatives for your products or projects.

The method can help you build company-wide consensus for your work, or at least help you show stakeholders why you made the decisions you did.

Communicating your team’s prioritization strategy also helps you set expectations across the business. When they see your methodology for choosing one initiative over another, stakeholders in other departments will understand that your team has thought through and weighed all decisions you’ve made.

If any stakeholders have an issue with one of your decisions, they will understand that they can’t simply complain—they’ll need to present you with evidence to alter your course of action.

17 Exciting Things to do in Moscow

Written By: Linda Voltaire

Updated On: December 21, 2022

Visiting Russia? These are the top 17 things to do in Moscow to help you plan your trip.

If the western world has New York City , the first great metropolis on the eastern side of our planet is Moscow. A huge city with a complicated and impressive history, Moscow gets a bad rep over Russian politics – but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Capital to the largest country in the world, Moscow takes the grandeur of its standing very seriously.

This is a place where luxury is king and where opulence takes a front seat in every aspect of life. The buildings are grand and imposing, the parks are luscious and enormous, and even the subway stations look different in Moscow than anywhere else in the world.

Table of Contents

Best Things to do in Moscow, Russia

Walking around Moscow is also going through the tumultuous history of the 20th century, which had Russia as one of its main protagonists. There are fascinating remains of these times everywhere in the former Soviet capital, from the gorgeous Seven Sisters skyscrapers to the Orthodox cathedrals that were closed for the better part of a century.  Still, Moscow is also a completely modern city, with a vibrant social and party scene, incredible restaurants, and some of the most luxurious hotels in the world.

After living in Russia’s capital as an ex-pat for four years, I got the privilege to experience not only the main attractions in Moscow but also the everyday life in this huge city and quickly found my sweat spots off the beaten tracks! So here is my list of my top 17 things to do in this exciting metropolis!

Attractions in Moscow

When visiting a famous city like this one, it’s a must to go through the most iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists.

1. The Red Square, Kremlin & Surrounding Area

No place tells the story of Moscow’s power in the past century the way the Red Square does. This is where the biggest political meetings in the USSR occurred for many decades, and you can feel the power on each step.

Here, you’ll also find the historic museum at the entrance, showcasing the decades of history behind this iconic landmark. The Lenin Mausoleum, perhaps the most famous resting place in the world and home to the remains of the former communist leader, is also here.

On one side of the Red Square you’ll find the Kremlin, the fortified complex that now hosts the presidential residence. This is also home to the most iconic of all Moscovite landmarks: St. Basil’s Cathedral, a 16th-century marvel of colors. This is the best spot to take a selfie and show the world you’ve reached the Russian capital!

  • Get your Kremlin Skip the Line Tickets and Kremlin tour here.
  • Free cancellation up to 24-hours in advance of the tour.

2. Bolshoi Theatre

You can easily spend a couple of days just exploring the Moscovite city centre, and the Bolshoi Theatre should be your second stop. Walk past the Red Square and then head to the nearby Bolshoi Theatre, one of the oldest and most renowned houses of opera and ballet on Earth.

Visit for the impressive early 19th-century architecture, but if you’re seeing a ballet performance, make sure you book between 3 and 6 months in advance! I can strongly recommend this as it is a truly unique experience!

  • Book a private 2-hour tour of the legendary Bolshoi Theatre.
  • See the presidential box reserved for tzars, watch a rehearsal and skip the lines through a separate entrance.
  • Free Cancellation up to 24-hours in advance.

3. Luxury Shopping at GUM and TSUM

While many might think of Moscow as the sad place with the long bread queues from the USSR days, it’s been quite the capitalist haven for a while.

If you’re up for some shopping, you’ll find one of the biggest luxury malls in town, TSUM, right behind the Bolshoi and GUM, at the red square. GUM is the most famous department store in town, where you’ll find luxury everywhere and all high-end brand.

All in an imposing late 19th-century building with lots of history, worth a visit just for the design, its bridges and the glass roof even though you are not up for shopping!

4. Christ the Savior Cathedral

A newer addition to the gorgeous Moscovite cathedrals and my grandeur neighbor during my years in the city Don’t let the young age of this building fool you. After the perestroika in the early 90s, the newly revived Russian Orthodox Church received permission to build a cathedral on this site. They did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church.

The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes as tall as the skies in bright gold and gorgeous paintings and decor! Bring a shawl to cover your hair to adjust to the local tradition.

Head to the back of the cathedral and you will find one of the most photographed bridges in Moscow, the Patriarshiy Most. This is the perfect spot to get a good view and photo of the cathedral but also to see the Kreml and Gorky Park from a distance. Or why not just enjoy a moment watching the river and its boats!

  • Get around Moscow with ease using the Hop On Hop Off boat and Bus ticket. 24, 48 or 72-hour tickets available.

5. Gorky Park

Cross the river and head to Gorky Park along the Moscow river. The most famous green area in town, similar to New York ’s Central Park and the weekend hangout for locals. There are many beautiful parks in the city, but if you’re only visiting for a few days, this is the unmissable one!

With fair attractions to entertain children, beautiful artificial lakes and gardens, and lots of outdoor activities, it’s a lovely place to relax. A place of rest in the middle of the metropolis. The area in front of the New Tretyakov Gallery & the Muzeon Park of Arts is actually one of my favorite oasis as a bit more quiet and peaceful than Gorky itself.

Why not spend some time in the museum to get a great tour of Russia’s history through art or just enjoy the art exhibition outside where local artists spend their weekends.

6. River Cruising

One of the best ways to experience Moscow is from the Moscow River. There are many stops for the boats and one is just next to Gorky Park. See the city from another perspective – and turn the ride into a romantic one by taking the evening cruise. Moscow is magic during the night.

If you’re looking for a truly luxurious experience, take the Radisson Blu cruise – or the Erwin for a delicious seafood dinner. Both stop at Gorky or at the luxury Radisson Royal Hotel, set in one of the Seven Sister’s skyscrapers.

  • We use Get Your Guide when booking city tours and they offer a River Sightseeing Cruise seeing all the main tourist attractions in Moscow

7. Metro Hopping

First inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow subway system is one of the oldest in the world, and certainly the most beautiful. Started under Stalinist times, each metro station is dedicated to grandeur and oozing personality.

Visiting the subway stops is an attraction in and of itself, and Komsomolskaya, Mayakovskaya, Kropotkinskaya are my favorites. Those surrounding the Red Square are also mesmerizing – in general, these are kind of like underground palaces.

Most of the signs at the Moscow Metro now have Latin letters, so it’s very easy to get around!Unfortunately, the trains are not as beautiful and pleasant as the stations but still, this is a true Moscow experience.  Take a guided tour of the 9 most beautiful Metro Stations including the award-winning art deco station. See more details here.

8. Arbatskaya & Artsy Moscow

Novy Arbat Street is one of the most touristy areas in the city, with lots of shops and cafés directed at visitors. When you walk a little beyond, you’ll find a different part of town, where the hip scene thrives because so many artists live in the area. Just follow the small streets with fewer tourists!

9. Moscow State University View

In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings hosts the main building of the Moscow State University, one of the most prestigious colleges in Russia – and the one with the best view.

Although this is a little outside the city centre, the sight from above is more than worth it, with the nearby fountains and park and then the whole of the city behind them.

10. Russian Market

If you love to visit markets wherever you go, Moscow has one of the most impressive ones in the world – the Izmailovsky. You can easily take the metro here and feel like you’ve been transported to another time.

This place was first built in the 16th century and retains the look of an old fairytale, with a lineup of colorful old castle. A lovely local experience beyond the confines of the bustling metropolis, where you can also try some delicious Russian barbecue.

Here, you’ll find beautiful souvenirs at great prices.

Off The Beaten Track Moscow

Once you’ve covered the most touristic spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer – and the places below will also be full of locals! Moscow is a city for hipsters, full of trendy and arty spots where you can literally feel the creativity oozing! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend my sweat spots below!

11. Patriarshiye Prudy

This is my favorite area in the entire city! While Moscow is generally a very noisy metropolis, Patriarch Ponds is far quieter, yet such a vibrant place. This is a very hip and trendy area making you think you are rather in Paris than in Moscow. Here the streets are narrow and full of chic eateries and clubs to see the local crowd.

A little bohemian and with an air of peace you won’t find anywhere in the city this is a great spot to spend an afternoon with your thoughts.

12. ArtPlay

Barely 15 minutes away from the city center you’ll find the artsiest Moscow district: ArtPlay. For decades, this block was a factory, but it was renovated to become a hub for the arts not too long ago.

Now, you’ll find it’s full of exhibitions, showrooms and art schools – and some of the most creative people in town. Writers, painters, and young hip people use ArtPlay as a rendezvous, and you can feel the creative energy here. The industrial design with modern interior decoration is also a feast for the eyes!

13. Shopping Local Designs

If you’re into design, both international and local, you’ll find lots of cute things at Patriarshiye Prudy. Department store Podium Market is also a great spot for shopping, as a department store everywhere in town, with lots of local and international brands. There’s one in the Four Seasons Hotel next to Red Square. My favorite Moscow mall is Tsvetnoy Central Market, a cool spot with great brands, lots of inspo, and even a cute café!

14. Moscow City

Like many other great capitals of the world, for the past few decades, Moscow has hosted a super modern area full of modern skyscrapers – Moscow City. With a completely different vibe than the rest of town, it’s like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressively tall glass buildings. Here, you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, such as Ruski and Sixty they are perfect spots for dining or enjoying a glass of wine with a view. There are also a relatively new shopping mall with lots of international brands called Affimall!

Wine, Dine, and Party in Moscow

Gone are the gloomy Moscow days – cold as it might be in the winter, Russia’s capital is a place for the senses. Great food and drinks abound – and the clubs are hot, too!

15. Where to Eat in Moscow

Moscow is a great metropolis where people love to dine out, and there are endless options for delicious food. The flavors are as diverse as you’d expect from a big city, with options of fine dining and little hipster eateries.

  • For traditional Russian flavors, I can’t recommend Café Pushkin, Dr. Zhivago, and Turnadot enough.
  • When looking for international cuisines, Italian is always the way to go, and my local favorite is Probka.
  • Fine dining is best done among the clouds at White Rabbit, with European flavors.
  • As for the hip spots, you can spend a full day just eating around trendy places, from burgers to Asian fusion.

More Dining Options

  • Patriarshiye Prudy offers a lot of small and classy spots with cool concepts, like breakfast restaurants I Love Cake and Fresh.
  • For dinner, I love the NYC experience of Saxon & Parole, and the wonderful trendy Pins, with its delicious food and drinks.
  • For delicious Asian food head to CutFish.
  • Lastly, there’s a recent revival of food markets in Moscow, offering lots of great choices of international flavors at affordable places.
  • Don’t miss out the Vietnamese food stand at the Danilovsky market, and everything at Usachevsky!

16. Rooftopping

Big cities deserve to be seen from above, having a cocktail among the clouds. These are my recommendations for rooftop bars in Moscow.

  • As I mentioned in the Moscow City section, Sixty & Ruski are two of my favorites, overlooking the newest part of town.
  • White Rabbit and its fine dining is also a lovely place for a fun dinner looking down on Moscow.
  • O2, in the city center, has an advantage above all others: amazing views of the Red Square.
  • Buono, above the Radisson Royal Hotel, might be the most romantic rooftop hotel in town, with its candlelit setting.
  • Also on the Radisson stands the Mercedes. It’s a luxurious and posh experience with delicious cocktails.
  • The Sky Lounge offers a peculiar experience, mixing an old Soviet building with futuristic additions.

17. Moscow by Night

Party the night away! The city is full of bars everywhere, but there are some areas where you’ll find more than others.

  • Patriarshiye Prudy has lots of hip and small clubs and great bars, including the super fun private club Clava, which has a great vibe and people from all walks of life.
  • For more hipster style bars, Red October is the place to go.
  • Streak is a summer favorite, with a lovely terrace to catch a beautiful sunset – plus, their mozzarella bar is delicious.
  • At night, Red October lights up with clubs everywhere, including the cool rooftop one Gipsy.
  • Jagger is also a great spot during summer with a more relaxed vibe in garden setting.
  • For the traditional Russian luxury experience, go to SohoRooms, a whole other world including all-night go-go dancers.

There are so many things to do in Moscow at night and during the day, you definitely need several days to explore this exciting destination.

Moscow is a must-see city, a city like no other ! I hope you will enjoy this Russian metropolis as much as I did!

Nice article. Love the hidden gems and graffiti art, would love to visit Artplay. Thanks for a comprehensive guide to Moscow!

Moscow is a city where the past and the future live side by side. Here we can find everything from medieval fortresses and Soviet monoliths to glass skyscrapers and innovation centers.

Your article is good and meaningful .

Thanks for sharing about ArtPlay district, we didn’t know about it and it looks amazing 🙂 Hopefully there’ll be a second time in Moscow, we visited last May and really liked the city!

Wonderful stuff! I’ve been to Moscow, but not properly – it’s a long story lol!

Anyhoo, my next thing is to fly from Berlin to Moscow and then travel from there to Beijing via the Trans-Mongolian / Trans-Siberian train. Now, if only I could just find the time …!

I hear Moscow is very beautiful at night. I hope to get out there one day. A friend of mine went to St. Petersburg and had a great experience. Despite all the tension we see on the news with Russia and other Countries like the U.S. I wonder what the sentiment is with Russians and foreigners visiting their country for tourism. Especially Americans.

that looks like quite a beautiful place. 🙂

  • Comparison between Halloween Versus Christmas
  • The Popularity of Halloween versus Christmas in America
  • Why do people like to celebrate Halloween more than Christmas?
Introduction of Halloween Versus Christmas Essay Christmas and Halloween both the festivals are celebrated across the globe with deep enthusiasm and people spend a lot of money to buy gifts, candies, and dresses on both the occasion. But when it comes to comparing them with each other it is a very tough deed for anyone because they both are having different meanings and believes behind their celebration which can be subjected to a comparison to each other. While Christmas is an eve of celebrating the birth of Lord Jesus on this day which is known for many important and holy deeds in Christianity, we can consider Halloween as a way of celebrating an occasion by haunting people through different costumes and collecting candies from them as well. Main Body of Halloween Versus Christmas Essay Comparison between Halloween Versus Christmas Halloween is celebrated across the world among people by putting on scary themes and dresses. The real purpose behind this celebration is traced to the new year on November 1 in some calendars where all the spirits who are to be taken away on the previous night of 31st October create a scary atmosphere and that is why the celebration of this day is continuously going on. Halloween is not just festive for the kids but at the same time, adults and aged people also impart their part of the job in this occasion by celebrating it in a little different way by dressing up them in different horrifying themes. Christmas which is an eve of enjoying and marry making for the birth comes with a little serious note where exchange of the gifts to each other and such other activities takes place. If we think of both the occasions, it is very hard to distinguish the one which is best out of them as both Halloween and Christmas are having their own role in the lives of people which brim them with joy. If you find Christmas as most popular even more popular than Halloween as the base to make it the best out of two festivals then it could be wrong to do that because Halloween gives the freedom to people especially kids to dress up in the costume of their choice and it is a sort of freedom to their soul at this very day which cannot be compared to any other thing on this earth. We all have the idea about the popular philosophy that children are closest to nature and God and they are a replica of God and if God is happy with Halloween in the form of kids then it is not good to say the Halloween is having a little bit low sheen than Christmas. Serious care must be given before reaching a conclusion about the basic comparison of the things between both Halloween and Christmas as well. Some people have a notion that Christmas is celebrated with grand pleasure among the people as compared to Halloween owing to its roots with Jesus Christ. On the other hand, Halloween is a celebration of mere a myth that is picked up from someone else’s idea. Even many people do not want to celebrate this occasion which traces its roots from somewhere else. But we cannot give our inferences based on such statements as this is an inseparable part of the lives of kids and adults in the United States and other Christian countries as well. Buy Customized Essay on Halloween Versus Christmas At Cheapest Price Order Now Now the entire meaning of Halloween for the children and their parents is limited to putting on new dresses and gathering candies only. So we cannot ignore such enjoyment which is done by the people on this eve just on the statements given by some random souls and minds. It is always good to live in the present situations rather than keep on worrying about the previous one. That is why we cannot draw a hard line in the comparison of both Christmas and Halloween. No doubt Christmas is the most celebrated festival among all age groups but we cannot ignore Halloween and its importance as well. So the conclusion of the essay can be thrown in such a way that both Halloween and Christmas have their own place in the heart of people and we cannot subject their emotions to a level where they get hurt by specifying a certain event as popular or good on comparing to other. The only thing that could be done to resist such comparison is to understand the emotions of those people who put their heart and soul into work throughout the year to manage the money for these two festivals so that their children can enjoy. It is a refreshment period which comes at the end of the year every time to give a thing of beauty to stay connected to the earth as mentioned by John Keats in his popular poem. The Popularity of Halloween versus Christmas in America One of the most obvious differences between Halloween and Christmas is the number of people who celebrate each holiday. The first point that one might notice is that more Americans celebrate Christmas than any other holiday throughout the year with a whopping 70% of all children, teens, and adults celebrating on December 25th each year (Harris Interactive). In contrast, only 54% report going trick-or-treating on Halloween night as children (Harris Interactive), further suggesting that more Americans celebrate Christmas than Halloween. There are many reasons why there are so many more people celebrating Christmas in America compared to holidays like Halloween or even Thanksgiving. Get Non-Plagiarized Custom Essay on Halloween Versus Christmas in USA Order Now Why do people like to celebrate Halloween more than Christmas? While there are many reasons why Halloween is celebrated in America more than Christmas or Thanksgiving, one of the most popular explanations has to do with how these holidays make people feel. It’s no secret that more Americans celebrate Halloween than almost any other holiday since they will either dress up themselves or hand out candy to trick-or-treaters (Halloween Facts). By contrast, it may seem strange that fewer Americans celebrate Christmas because it has more facts associated with it. For example, the earliest documented celebration of Santa Claus took place on December 6th in the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam which is now known as New York City (Unmuseum). Since then Santa Claus has become an integral part of Christmas celebrations in America during which people play different games such as “pin the tail on the donkey” and receive gifts from Santa Claus (Unmuseum). In general, Christmas is all about playing games and giving gifts which makes people feel happy because they get to spend time with their family or loved ones exchanging presents. Conclusion This essay has shown that the difference between Halloween and Christmas is a matter of perspective. The differences are based on what you think life’s meaning or purpose might be, as well as your personal values. It’s up to you which holiday will have more significance for you in the future. Ultimately, the holiday traditions that are most important to you will be what makes your season magical. Whether it’s Halloween or Christmas, if you put in the effort and enjoy yourself with friends and family, then whatever day of the year is best for you will feel like a time full of cheer. It’s up to each individual person to decide which holidays they find meaningful–and there are plenty out there! Hire USA Experts for Halloween Versus Christmas Essay Order Now

How it works

The most wonderful thing about people is that we have different cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles in different countries around the world. That is the reason holidays exist; as marks in history to be remembered. Holidays are essential and fun because they allow people to take breaks from busy, mundane day-to-day life duties, spend time with family or friends, or just to celebrate culture and life. Some of the most common and widely-known holidays are Halloween and Christmas.

First of all, Christmas is a more popular worldwide holiday, compared to Halloween. For example, according to Statista.com, in 2018, about 70% of people in the U.S. were to celebrate Halloween, whereas about 90% of people in the U.S. are to celebrate Christmas. Furthermore, Christmas is celebrated in more than 160 countries, but Halloween is mainly only celebrated in countries such as the U.S. or Canada. Being more popular means that more people know about that culture and can relate or connect with other people all over the world. Since Halloween is only celebrated in a few places, not many people care about it as much as Christmas. Therefore, Christmas is superior to Halloween because of its popularity worldwide.

Lastly, the meaning of Christmas has always stayed true to itself. Although more people of religions or backgrounds other than Christianity are celebrating Christmas, it is commonly known as the holiday rejoicing the birth of Jesus (even though it is not His actual birthday), according to Britannica.com. However, Halloween cannot be pinned down to one purpose. Some celebrate it to remember the dead, some call it the “devil’s holiday”, and others just want to dress up in all sorts of costumes. In other words, Christmas is a wholesome holiday where it is reasonable to take a break and receive presents, while Halloween is a minor holiday that does not last very long or have a great impact on people’s lives. Therefore, Christmas is superior to Halloween because it has more meaning and purpose.

In conclusion, Christmas is better than Halloween because it is one of the main and biggest events of the year. First of all, it is a worldwide holiday that uses its popularity to bring people together. Also, it has many more fun activities and decorations than Halloween. Lastly, it is more meaningful because there is a clear story behind it. In the end, the main reason for anyone to dislike Christmas is the complaint of it being too much stress, but I say that, based on annual results, all that hard work always seems to pay off in the form of happiness. Also, it is said to be, “the most wonderful time of the year.” So, now it is up to the people to decide if they should spend their time watching scary movies in silly costumes eating candy next year, or setting up lights on Christmas trees while sipping hot cocoa to bring a little cheer and magic in their lives!

16 Reasons Halloween And Christmas Are Basically The Same Holiday

Both holidays make me very anxious, and I just realized it's for all the same reasons.

Mandy Caruso

BuzzFeed, Creative Fellow

1. Both are exceptionally scary.

Halloween: Zombies, monsters, demons, the existential paranoia that no one is ever really who they appear to be and that death eventually comes for us all...

Christmas: Allegedly some fat, bearded old foreign man who is really into children sitting on his lap breaks into your home, eats your snacks, leaves you nice stuff that for all you know could have been stolen, exits without a trace and lets you live with the constant paranoia that he sees you when you're sleeping and knows when you're awake. Good God.

2. You WILL gain weight after properly celebrating both holidays.

Christmas: OH, THE FEAST. I GROW LARGER JUST THINKING ABOUT THE FEAST.

Halloween : CANDY. PUMPKIN PIE. CANDY AND PUMPKIN PIE EVERYWHERE.

3. You are expected to dress up for both (and will often look foolish)

Halloween: Do I want to show off my wit or my body? Do I have either to show off?

Christmas : Incorporating leggings into my dressy outfit: challenge accepted.

4. Both are largely based upon subtle threats.

Halloween: Behave accordingly or kids will play a mischievous trick upon you.

Christmas: Behave accordingly or Santa will break into your home and give you coal, which is useless because the fireplace is less than a foot away and is literally chock full of that shit.

5. Both holidays glamorize the bothering of neighbors.

Christmas: Carolers be like ♪ Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg/ The Batmobile lost its wheel and Joker is my dad ♫

Halloween: Kids be like ♫ Trick or treat, smell my feet/ give me something good to eat/ If you don't, I'll tell my father about this. ♪

6. People get SO turnt up decorating their homes for both occasions...

Halloween : Plastic skulls, glowing pumpkins, fog machines, Styrofoam headstones, tacky lights...

Christmas : Plastic santas, glowing trees, snow machines, Styrofoam snowmen, tacky lights...

7. ...And no one really wants to take down the decorations.

Halloween: "Screw it, I'll just say I'm going for an Addam's Family motif. "

Christmas: "Maybe if I just don't plug in the lights, that will make them invisible and no one will know they're still all over my house and windows and bushes!" *It's April*

8. They are both oddly sexualized (especially for ladies).

Halloween: When you've come across a "Sexy Strip of Bacon" costume at the store, you know it's gone too far.

Christmas: Still waiting for these "Sexy Santa" lingerie sets to come with beards.

9. Spiking the punch can make both holidays considerably more interesting.

Christmas : "Oh my god Memaw PLEASE tell me what the forties were like. Hang on, let me just top you off there..."

Halloween : "I think I am finally buzzed enough to talk to Jessica Rabbit."

10. Other people will disappoint you the most on these holidays.

Christmas: "I've been your daughter for 20 whole years and you still have no idea how to shop for me?"

Halloween: You work so hard on your "dunkin' donuts" costume and everyone thinks you're a basketball playing- donut. Idiots.

11. People get the most competitive.

Halloween: It's like cosplaying at Comic Con , but with way more general social acceptance.

Christmas: There are two ways to do Christmas: Perfectly and "I am a failure that no one loves why don't I just give up."

12. Both holiday seasons bring the BEST parties

Halloween: On what other magical day can Walter White grind with Lara Croft?

Christmas: On what other magical day can Howard from Accounting grind with Janet from Sales?

*plot twist: Howard was Walter White, Janet was Lara Croft.

13. You're completely screwed if you wait 'til the last minute to prepare for these holidays.

Halloween: Wait too long and you're stuck with a costume you have to keep explaining why is good.

Christmas: Wait too long and you're stuck with a present you have to keep explaining why is good.

14. Both holidays are literally the worst days for cops.

Christmas: "Uh, we got a situation over on Main Street involving a man dressed as Santa, a monkey and a life-sized cardboard cutout of Michael Jordan . Requesting backup."

Halloween: "Fucking teenagers."

15. Children are the only real winners of both holidays...

Christmas: Class parties, butt loads of candy, getting cool stuff for free, showing off the cool stuff you got for free.

Halloween: Class parties, butt loads of candy, getting cool stuff for free, showing off the cool stuff you got for free.

16. ...Except when they're not.

Halloween: Raisins and toothbrushes when trick-or-treating, parents making you wear a jacket which will RUIN your costume, tummy aches from too much candy...

Christmas: We've all had that one childhood year of massive present disappointment. Mine was Christmas of '98. Didn't get a Furby. Still not quite over it.

Halloween vs christmas

Halloween vs. Christmas the best holidays These are both one of the most important holidays to the United States maybe even to the world. They bring people joy, happiness, and it mostly brings people together to celebrate. These two holidays are very important in different ways. They both bring a different concept. But what are the differences and similarities of this holiday, keep reading this and maybe I’ll help you find out a little about these two wonderful holidays. For Halloween Halloween is full of frights, terror, fun, and is the only day out of the year a person can be whoever they want to be.

On Halloween, fantasies come alive for people of all ages. For children, it means dressing up as whatever fictional character they want to, and getting the most candy. All of the costumed children are able to walk around at night going from door to door, getting a much candy as they can fit into a pillowcase. Halloween is the only holiday kids receive so much candy; it can last the entire year. Children, can also, participate in parades, enter, or pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. For adults, it can hold several different meanings, as well.

As a parent, you can help dress up your child, paint their face, and put in your own creativity to the costume. Parents, can also, walk around with their child on Halloween, and smile as their child runs from house to house as happy as can be. Halloween is one of the biggest celebration days of the United States, it is a yearly holiday observed around the world on October 31. Halloween’s roots can be traced back to Celticculturein Ireland. According to their ” Druid” religion, November 1st was New Years’ on their calendar. The celebration would begin on October 31st, and last into the following day.

The spirits of all who died in the prior year would rise up and roam the earth on this night. This is an evil night when spirits roamed the streets and villages. Lord Samhain, the lord of Darkness, would arrive in search of the spirits to take them to the underworld. Halloween as it is currently celebrated with costumes, trick or treat, and superstitions, takes from this Druid Holiday. Halloween is second only to Christmas in spending. Consumers spend over $2. 5 Billion during Halloween. That’s a whole lot of candy, costumes, decorations, and party goods. Like Christmas, Halloween is steeped in traditions.

While Christmas can be a stressful period, Halloween is all about fun. People really get into the Halloween tradition and ” spirit”. Some religions are against celebrating Halloween, citing it’s roots in ancient Druid religion. While this is true, Today’s Halloween celebrations are all about fun, with a generous amount of imagination Halloween was commonly referred to as ” All Hollows” Eve. It originated from the pagan holiday honoring the dead. The Roman Catholic Church created All Saints Day (also called Hallowmas) on November 1st to honor Saints and All Souls Day on November 2and to honor and pray for the souls of the dead.

These holidays were created by the church, in part to downplay the pagan holidays. Needless to say, it did not succeed. Halloween as we know it today has grown from the ancient Druid Holiday. Along the way both fun, frights, and satanic twists have been added to the mix. In English, this holiday translates to ” The Day of the Dead”. It is an importantMexicanholiday. Where Americans shy away from the topic of death, Mexicans embrace it. On this day, they celebrate it in a big way. Asian cultures are also known to honor the dead in October.

Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals withfamilyand friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

December 25 Christmas day has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870. Decorating the tree is the most important part for the kids because it gets them exciting and they know that it means the presents are coming soon. Christmas is one of the most important holiday there is of the year it brings people together mostly family. It’s the time of the year that family visits each other and mostly because Christmas is so close to New Year it’s even more exciting. Most people go to church this day because it is consider the day when Jesus was born to Christians.

I think there are a lot of similarities in both of these holidays. Both of the holidays are a symbol of something that has happen in the past. They both honor something. In both of the holidays people decorate their homes with the theme of the holiday. In Christmas people give away presents and in Halloween people give away candy. People most likely get together to celebrate this and most people don’t work on these times. Either to spend time with their family or to go out and do something. Somewhat they are both a religious celebration even though I don’t see it that way.

In my church they teach me not to celebrate any of these holidays. So I don’t even celebrate them I just hear about them from people. In Christmas you get dressed up in your best clothes and in Halloween you get dressed up wit6h costumes. Well this is all I can tell you about these two holidays since this is all I got from the research and all the people I asked about it. When I am older I might celebrate Christmas and Halloween with my family they seem like very fun and happy things to do that makes people come together.

Halloween’s roots can be traced back to Celtic culture in Ireland. According to their “Druid” religion, November 1st was New Years’ on their calendar. The celebration would begin on October 31st, and last into the following day.

While Christmas can be a stressful period, Halloween is all about fun. People really get into the Halloween tradition and “spirit”. Some religions are against celebrating Halloween, citing it’s roots in ancient Druid religion. While this is true, Today’s Halloween celebrations are all about fun, with a generous amount of imagination Halloween was commonly referred to as “All Hollows” Eve.

In English, this holiday translates to “The Day of the Dead”. It is an important Mexican holiday.

Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

Compare And Contrast Halloween And Day Of The Dead

Halloween and Day of the Dead are thought to be similar because they’re around the same time of year, but when you look closer, the two holidays are very different. The Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives while Halloween celebrates the end of summer. The first difference is that the Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives; anyone who celebrates Day of the Dead sets up a shrine for their dead relative (or relatives) so that their spirit can find it’s way back to their family. Halloween celebrates the end of summer, and we can go trick or treating and get candy. Both holidays celebrate something around the same time of year.…

Comparing Frankenstein And Romero's Night Of The Living Dead

To many, the end of October is a time of corn mazes, costume parties, and haunted houses. Many cultures celebrate harvest festivals during October, though none are as well-known as Halloween. Because Halloween is primarily descended from the Celtic festival of Samhain, when some think of Halloween, they think of bats and cats and witches. However, although Halloween as it is currently know is a wholly American creation with regional rituals handed down by generations, it did not become a “full-blown American holiday” until the turn of the century (Bannatyne). Because of the contemporary nature of Halloween, without Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Sylvia Plath’s “Lady Lazarus”, and George A. Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead, the holiday as we…

Day Of The Dead Vs Halloween Essay

For the holiday of Halloween I feel it is taken less seriously than Day of the Dead due to it having no religious meaning or connections. However, Halloween does still have a lot of reasons for celebrating. The reason and background of Halloween has to do with the fact that it connects with the day of All Hallows Eve, which is said to be when spirits of the dead come out and roam the streets, and this is the reason that children dress up, to disguise themselves from the evil spirits. For the holiday of Day of the Dead, it gets very complicated. This holidays dates all the way back to Aztec customs where several rituals were held to acknowledge their dead ancestors and honor their lives.…

Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…

What's better: Halloween or Christmas? | The Tylt

With Christmas comes family traditions, gift-giving, and wishes for peace on earth. Although it's a Christian holiday, 8 out of 10 non-Christians in America partake in the festivities. But for some, Halloween is the most wonderful time of year. Halloween is more subversive.  Its roots are pagan and offers opportunities for costumes, makeup, and silliness. Also, many find Christmas to be stressful. Which holiday do you prefer?

A festive crown for the winner

"The most wonderful time of year" is actually one plagued by anxiety. The holiday season brings a lot of pressure. You have to worry about seeing old friends and avoiding certain topics with family members—that is, if you even know where you'll be celebrating. Christmas and Thanksgiving are the loner's nightmare and a huge headache.

According to Gina Barreca of Psychology Today :

Here's why Halloween is the best holiday: we don't worry about it. Nobody frets about being lonely, abandoned, heartbroken, alienated, or bereft on Halloween. There is about one-one-hundreth as much emotional tension surrounding Halloween as surrounds Valentine's Day, for example, or New Year's Eve.
Few wring their hands, wondering "What if I'm not asked out on the 31st of October? Does that make me a total loser?"
On Halloween you get to wear a REAL mask, a comic one, an obvious one, and not just the emotional one most of us put on for other holidays.

Sometimes, the sheer magnitude of Christmas traditions have the reverse effect on the holiday.

There is so much less pressure surrounding Halloween: There’s no such thing as a perfect Halloween day, no rules to be followed, set meals to be made, or enforced family gatherings to host. As long as there’s candy and some trick-or-treating for the kids, Halloween will be a success. It’s this lack of idealistic goals and expectations that actually enables us to enjoy the day a whole lot more than we can enjoy Christmas.

But for some, Christmas will always be the favorite holiday of the year. Everyone knows that person who starts the countdown to Christmas in February....

Sometimes it comes down to the food associated with each holiday. Sure, Halloween brings Butterfingers, Kit Kats and pumpkin spice lattes, but Christmas comes with cookies, candy canes and peppermint mochas.

Halloween comes with its own history. CNN contributor David Frum points out that "Halloween is a holiday with ancient pagan roots, but the modern extravaganza of candy, pumpkins and sexy nurse costumes is as American as the Fourth of July." However, this reclaiming of the holiday holds its own importance.

Frum highlights the resurgence of Halloween in the 1970s in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood:

In the 1970s, that neighborhood emerged as the heart of a new home-owning, bourgeois, coupled gay community. A local variety store had long sponsored a Halloween street festival for kids. In the 1970s, the street festival transitioned into an adult party of lavish costumed theatricality.
The Castro Halloween party spread to other gay neighborhoods in the 1980s: Greenwich Village, West Hollywood, Key West, Florida.
[Halloween] is not just a party. It's an ideal of personal emancipation, self-expression and self-fulfillment -- an ideal that loses none of its power when it takes the form of a sexy nurse's outfit.

The combination of warm lights, roaring fires, classic movies, and festive music cannot be beat. Some may criticize the commercialization of Christmas, but it has undoubtedly spread the cheer far and wide. And who can complain about that?

Introduction: Patrons of the season of Halloween spend over $2.5 billion dollars every year on candy, costumes, and decorations. Every year millions of kids get dressed up, knock on doors, and beg for candy. Have you ever wondered where this strange tradition originated? The three most important points of Halloween can be summed up by looking at its origins, how it came to include jack-o-lanterns and bobbing for apples, and how it is celebrated today with trick-or-treating and haunted houses.

Comparison Of Halloween And Dia De Los Muertos

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are very interesting holidays in there own different ways. Halloween and Day of the Dead can be similar but on the bottom line they are very different by the way they decorate, what they eat, and how they celebrate the holidays. The two holidays may seem similar at first but after understanding the complexity of the ideas behind both holidays actions, your opinion can change. For example during Halloween some kids might go trick or treating but in Mexico during the Day of the Dead, people would go to grave sites and have picnics with people who have passed on and a famous sauce they would eat is mole sauce which is like a spicy chocolate sauce. There are a lot of differences to explore about the two

How Halloween Has Changed

When I was a child my friends and I had Halloween parties where we would share candy and play board games like Monopoly and Sorry. Eventually, after I had eaten all of my favorite candy, I would be exhausted and head home. Now as an adult, I attend parties where the only games that people are playing involve ping-pong balls and red solo cups. Occasionally there is an enormous campfire that reaches towards the moon and stars. The crackling sound of burning oak wood completes a night full of long-lasting memories. The parties are different from when I was younger, but celebrating Halloween is still cherished by

Pope Gregory How Did Christmas Changed

It was in 601 that Pope Gregory I wrote to Melitus (his missionary in England) telling him “not to stop such ancient Pagan festivities” but to “adapt them to the rites of the Church, only changing the reason of them from a heathen to a Christian impulse”. So all those who have been claiming for years that Christmas was, in fact, actually a pagan holiday - you were right and Pope Gregory I handily put it in writing for you.

Halloween Persuasive Essay

Halloween has become the second most anticipated holiday for children after Christmas. Halloween was first celebrated by the Celts, who lived in Scotland and Ireland in ancient times. The Celts held a special festival to celebrate Samhain, the god of the dead. The day they choose was their New Year's Eve, October 31 on our calendar. They believed the souls of the dead returned to visit their homes on this one night of the year to try to find another body to inhabit. My Perfect Wedding

Christmas Day is usually a holiday mainly observed to commemorate the birth of Jesus. For non Christianity followers it is a day to exchange gifts, decorate houses and for Santa Clause. For me, Christmas of two thousand eight changed my life forever. This is the day my now to be husband kneeling down on one knee, asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. His proposal was short sweet and sincere. Without a doubt I gracefully replied “Yes, I will.” With many new emotions racing throughout my mind, I couldn’t help to wonder, when our big day would be. Setting a date was the beginning of our long wedding adventure. There was many offers given to me from family and friends to help with the planning but I refused.

Christmas vs. halloween

Holidays are a time where families can come together and celebrate things that mean a lot to them. Spending time with yourfamilyis important to folks and holidays are the perfect way to gather the whole family up to celebrate something special. Every year we have tons of fun giving and receiving from others. Being a kid, the best part of all is receiving. Whether it be candy or video games or maybe even some socks from mom, it’s amazing no matter what. All holidays are exciting to me but two of my favorite are Christmas and Halloween.

But which holiday is the best? Almost all holidays have fictional characters that represent them. Let’s start with Christmas. The absolute best part of Christmas for me was waiting to hear that big fat man in the red suit in my living room; Santa Clause of course! We would make ” reindeerfood” at school with oats and glitter and throw it in our yard at night. I remember so well throwing the food handful by handful saying each of the reindeer’s names as I threw it across the grass. ” Here’s for you, Rudolph. “.. And this is for you Comet! ” I think all kids have this image of the North Pole in their minds. I could always picture Mrs.

Clause baking and all of the elves building toys up there. It makes the idea of Christmas that much more exciting. Halloween, on the other hand, has an entirely different approach. These characters are a lot more intimidating. A great deal of these fictional characters are also followed by a scary story, like The Headless Horseman galloping on his horse looking for a new head to call his own! When I think about Halloween I think of the Hocus Pocus witches flying by on their broomsticks in the sky, ghost flying creeping around corners, black cats running across the streets, and monsters hiding underneath my bed.

Putting all of these characters into this holiday makes it so amusing and really keeps people on their toes. Every holiday has some kind of tradition. During Christmas time, the main tradition is to put up a Christmas tree and decorations with your family. Hanging up garland, draping ornaments up and down the tree to make it look like your own, throwing lights up on the house, placing your Christmas letters from family on top of he fireplace, dangling bows around every corner, and of course putting the final star or angel on the top of your very own Christmas tree.

To follow more tradition, we also buy and wrap gifts for our loved ones. It is a time of year that we can really show our appreciation by giving. And don’t forget about that yummy Christmas dinner! So much is cooked and prepared for the dinner; turkey covered in brown gra’. y to all of the mouthwatering sides like carrots, sweet potatoes, and green beans along with some homemade sweet bread rolls. It’s almost like a second Thanksgiving! Halloween is not so sweet. One main tradition is finding the perfect pumpkin for you and your family and carving it together.

There’s so many possibilities when carving a pumpkin because you can choose anything you woul d like. IVe seen anything from funny faces to hideous monsters. One thing people do on Halloween and the weeks before it is go to haunted houses with friends and family! There’s nothing better than going into a place that is trying to scare the heebie-jeebies out of you! Most people take their children out ” Trick or Treating”. Kids dress up in their avorite character and go door to door to gather candy from others in their neighborhood. Halloween continues to be extremely popular with kids of all ages; 85 to 90 percent of U. S. children go trick-or-treating or engage in other Halloween festivities every year, and many adults also Join in on the fun. ” (Harris) Although it has become very unsafe over the years, it is a tradition that will never die down. Kids will always want their candy! Color themes are a big part of any holiday. Christmas is celebrated with the colors green, red, and white. Green Christmas trees, red mistletoes, and whitesnow.

Nothing can beat these bright colors when theyre all in one decorative room together. Halloween uses more dark colors like black, purple, and orange. When you think of monsters and darkness you don’t exactly think of rainbows and sunshine. Colors can affect any point of view. Nobody is going to be scared of a hot pink monster with blue polka dots! Bring on the creepy dark colors! The meaning of a holiday is what matters most. ” Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the orld. (Wikipedia) Not only is it a time to come together as a family, but a time to come together religiously as well. To celebrate what you believe in is important to almost anyone. Halloween began to celebrate the dead. ” Halloween is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows; Day. It initiates the triduum of Hallowmas, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead. ” (Wikipedia) The holiday may be scary but it is meant to be a celebration for our loved ones.

In my opinion, Christmas is the best holiday. I love nothing more than to come together with my family to share gifts and love. This holiday is a very happy and cheerful holiday overall and it can really bring out the best in people. ” This truly is the happiest time of the year, and a rush of excitement takes over every December. Everything seems a bit brighter this time of year, so one can never take a December day for granted. ” (Bell) I celebrate it every year with the people I care most about and will carry on the tradition for as long as I can.

Christmas vs. Halloween

Holidays are a time where families can come together and celebrate things that mean a lot to them. Spending time with your family is important to folks and holidays are the perfect way to gather the whole family up to celebrate something special. Every year we have tons of fun giving and receiving from others. Being a kid, the best part of all is receiving. Whether it be candy or video games or maybe even some socks from mom, it's amazing no matter what. All holidays are exciting to me but two of my favorite are Christmas and Halloween.

But which holiday is the best? Almost all holidays have fictional characters that represent them. Let's start with Christmas. The absolute best part of Christmas for me was waiting to hear that big fat man in the red suit in my living room; Santa Clause of course! We would make "reindeer food" at school with oats and glitter and throw it in our yard at night. I remember so well throwing the food handful by handful saying each of the reindeer's names as I threw it across the grass. "Here's for you, Rudolph. ".. And this is for you Comet! " I think all kids have this image of the North Pole in their minds. I could always picture Mrs.

To follow more tradition, we also buy and wrap gifts for our loved ones. It is a time of year that we can really show our appreciation by giving. And don't forget about that yummy Christmas dinner! So much is cooked and prepared for the dinner; turkey covered in brown gra'. y to all of the mouthwatering sides like carrots, sweet potatoes, and green beans along with some homemade sweet bread rolls. It's almost like a second Thanksgiving! Halloween is not so sweet. One main tradition is finding the perfect pumpkin for you and your family and carving it together.

There's so many possibilities when carving a pumpkin because you can choose anything you woul d like. IVe seen anything from funny faces to hideous monsters. One thing people do on Halloween and the weeks before it is go to haunted houses with friends and family! There's nothing better than going into a place that is trying to scare the heebie-jeebies out of you! Most people take their children out "Trick or Treating". " (Harris) Although it has become very unsafe over the years, it is a tradition that will never die down. Kids will always want their candy! Color themes are a big part of any holiday. Christmas is celebrated with the colors green, red, and white. Green Christmas trees, red mistletoes, and white snow.

Nothing can beat these bright colors when theyre all in one decorative room together. Halloween uses more dark colors like black, purple, and orange. When you think of monsters and darkness you don't exactly think of rainbows and sunshine. Colors can affect any point of view. Nobody is going to be scared of a hot pink monster with blue polka dots! Bring on the creepy dark colors! The meaning of a holiday is what matters most. "Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the orld. (Wikipedia) Not only is it a time to come together as a family, but a time to come together religiously as well. To celebrate what you believe in is important to almost anyone. Halloween began to celebrate the dead. "Halloween is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows; Day. It initiates the triduum of Hallowmas, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead. " (Wikipedia) The holiday may be scary but it is meant to be a celebration for our loved ones.

In my opinion, Christmas is the best holiday . I love nothing more than to come together with my family to share gifts and love. This holiday is a very happy and cheerful holiday overall and it can really bring out the best in people. "This truly is the happiest time of the year, and a rush of excitement takes over every December. Everything seems a bit brighter this time of year, so one can never take a December day for granted. " (Bell) I celebrate it every year with the people I care most about and will carry on the tradition for as long as I can.

It has been argued by experts that Halloween is a better holiday than Christmas. Because of the multitudes of costumes available, Halloween allows people to vicariously live out fantasy situations through them. During Christmas, there is the expectation of people to supply friends and family with a variety of presents, which can cause an individual a lot of stress as well as money. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower was built in 1508. It is the tallest tower at the Kremlin with a height of 266 feet (81 meters).

Joseph Stalin removed many of the relics from the tsarist regimes. However, the Tsar Bell, the world’s largest bell, and the Tsar Cannon, the largest bombard by caliber in the world, are among the remaining items from that era. The Kremlin Armory is one of Moscow’s oldest museums as it was established more than 200 years ago. Its diamond collection is impressive.

The Kremlin’s gardens – Taynitsky, Grand Kremlin Public and Alexander – are beautiful. The Kremlin has also served as the religious center of the country, and there is a tremendous number of preserved churches and cathedrals here. The collections contained within the museums include more than 60,000 historical, cultural and artistic monuments. Those who enjoy the performing arts will want to consider attending a ballet or concert at the State Kremlin Palace. Completed in 1961, it is the only modern building in the Kremlin.

2. Red Square

Red Square

Lying at the heart of Moscow, Red Square is the most important and impressive square in the city. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions due to its wealth of historical sights and cultural landmarks.

Drenched in history, the huge square is home to incredible sights such as the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral and Lenin’s Mausoleum, among others. Consequently, it is not to be missed when in Moscow as it really is home to the city’s most stunning monuments.

It is here that many important moments in Russian history took place; the former marketplace has hosted everything from Tsar’s coronations and public ceremonies to rock concerts and Soviet military parades. Wandering around the massive square is a humbling experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights the city has to offer.

1. Saint Basil’s Cathedral

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Located in the impressive Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral is gorgeous; its delightful spires appear as if out of a fairytale. The most recognizable building in the country, the cathedral is very much a symbol of Russia. No visit to Moscow is complete without having taken in its unique and distinctive features.

Ivan the Terrible ordered the cathedral’s construction in the mid-16th century, and legend holds that Ivan put out the architect’s eyes so that he would be unable to build another cathedral more glorious than St. Basil’s. Designed to resemble the shape of a bonfire in full flame, the architecture is not only unique to the period in which it was built but to any subsequent period. For various reasons, both Napoleon and Stalin wanted to destroy the cathedral but fortunately did not succeed.

Known for its various colors, shapes and geometric patterns, St. Basil’s Cathedral houses nine different chapels that are all connected by a winding labyrinth of corridors and stairways. On the lower floor, St. Basil’s Chapel contains a silver casket bearing the body of St. Basil the Blessed.

Throughout the cathedral are many beautiful murals, frescoes, wooden icons and other art works and artifacts. Outside the cathedral is a lovely garden with the bronze Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, who rallied an all-volunteer Russian army against Polish invaders during a period of the late 16th century known as the Times of Troubles.

Moscow is Russia's capital city and is the largest city in the country. As of January 1, 2010, Moscow's population was 10,562,099, which also makes it one of the top ten largest cities in the world. Because of its size, Moscow is one of the most influential cities in Russia and dominates the country in politics, economics, and culture among other things. Moscow is located in Russia's Central Federal District along the Moskva River and covers an area of 417.4 square miles (9,771 sq km).

The following is a list of ten things to know about Moscow: 1) In 1156 the first references to the construction of a wall around a growing city called Moscow began to appear in Russian documents as did descriptions of the city being attacked by the Mongols in the 13th century. Moscow was first made a capital city in 1327 when it was named the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. It later became known as the Grand Duchy of Moscow. 2) Throughout much of the rest of its history, Moscow was attacked by rival empires and armies. In the 17th century a large part of the city was damaged during citizen uprisings and in 1771 much of Moscow's population died due to the plague. Shortly thereafter in 1812, Moscow's citizens (called Muscovites) burned the city during Napoleon 's invasion. 3) After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Moscow became the capital of what would eventually become the Soviet Union in 1918. During World War II, however, a large portion of the city suffered damage from bombings. Following WWII, Moscow grew but instability continued in the city during the fall of the Soviet Union . Since then, though, Moscow has become more stable and is a growing economic and political center of Russia.

4) Today, Moscow is a highly organized city located on the banks of the Moskva River. It has 49 bridges crossing the river and a road system that radiates in rings out from the Kremlin in the city's center. 5) Moscow has a climate with humid and warm to hot summers and cold winters. The hottest months are June, July, and August while the coldest is January. The average high temperature for July is 74°F (23.2°C) and the average low for January is 13°F (-10.3°C). 6) The city of Moscow is governed by one mayor but it is also broken down into ten local administrative divisions called okrugs and 123 local districts. The ten okrugs radiate out around the central district which contains the city's historic center, Red Square, and the Kremlin. 7) Moscow is considered the center of Russian culture because of the presence of many different museums and theaters in the city. Moscow is home to the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the Moscow State Historical Museum. It is also home to Red Square which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . 8) Moscow is well-known for its unique architecture which consists of many different historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its brightly colored domes. Distinctive modern buildings are also beginning to be constructed throughout the city.

9) Moscow is considered one of the largest economies in Europe and its main industries include chemicals, food, textiles, energy production, software development, and furniture manufacturing. The city is also home to some of the world's largest companies. 10) In 1980, Moscow was the host of the Summer Olympics and thus has a variety of different sports venues that are still used by the many sports teams within the city. Ice hockey, tennis, and rugby are some popular Russian sports. Reference Wikipedia. (2010, March 31). "Moscow." Moscow- Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia .
