Best photo slideshow software and apps 2022

The best photo slideshow software turns your images and music into a seamless presentation

Best photo slideshow software

The best photo slideshow software can turn your long list of photos into a lively and engaging experience. From family holidays and trips with friends to your kids' sports and arts progress – this software is ideal for sharing your beloved images with others.

The best photo slideshow software does more than simply pairing images and music. Some will help you remove any out of focus or unclear shots so you get the best end result. Then you can add more such as annotations, maps and beyond.

These programs work across a host of devices and some even offer more advanced video editing tools for you to work with while remaining easy to use. Or, for more basic versions that work right there on your smartphone, there are the likes of  PixGram for Android and PicPlayHost for iOS which are free and easy to use but lack more complex features.

Image editing is possible on a basic level with filters included on many of the programs, allowing you to make certain snaps pop out as needed. But to go deeper on this you'll want to look at the best photo editing software . Should you want to keep all your photos organized, to make the whole process far easier, then look into getting one of the best photo organizing apps too.

1. Movavi Slideshow Maker 7: Best photo slideshow software overall

Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Movavi Slideshow Maker 7

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Movavi Slideshow Maker 7 is a versatile photo slideshow software package that will get you good results in minutes, and excellent results the more you learn its tools and features. There's a handy montage wizard to get you started, and that may be all you need for most of the slideshows you end up creating - this is very simple to use, even though it has all the hallmarks of an actual video editor.

Movavi includes a whole variety of effects, transitions, and filters to make your slideshows stand-out, and you can use it for everything from fun social media fodder through to serious photo presentations. The more technical video effects like camera pans and zooms will give you more editorial control over your slideshow, while the effects, stickers, and animations will help you keep things entertaining. There are over 160 filters, and more than 100 animation effects, so you can really craft a variety of slideshows. It's ideal for weddings, graduation parties, birthdays and more, as well as more serious stuff like business presentations and showreels.

You can overlay music too, which draws from the library on your computer, and you can mix in videos with your photos if you want to create mixed media. Movavi exports to all the most common photo and video file types, so you don't need to worry about compatibility, and there's an option to save direct to a YouTube channel or - if you want to share on other social media - to Google Drive. The negatives? Well, some may never use many of the features, and could just use a free app, but anyone serious about making a quality slideshow will love what Movavi has to offer.

2. PhotoStage Slideshow 8: Best budget slideshow software

Photostage slideshow 8.

PhotoStage Slideshow 8 is one of the cheapest options for creating slideshows, and is very simple to use too. It lacks a handful of features you may find elsewhere, but has more than enough for most people to create excellent slideshows. We recommend it for anyone who isn't going to use all of the flashy graphics and transitions offered by other programs. There are no backgrounds, filters or themes, but there are plenty of transition effects to choose from. This includes more elaborate transitions like fading into the next image in the expanding shape of a heart or simply scrolling from one side of the screen to the other. You can make simple edits such as cropping and rotating your photos, and adjusting contrast, hue and brightness. We found the slideshow playback to be crisp and of good color quality in our tests. This software handles the most common audio and video formats, so you can spice up your slideshows with mixed media. The area where this slideshow software really falls short is in the help and support, but honestly, this program is so easy to use that you likely won't need to contact anyone at NCH for help.

In terms of export, you can save your slideshow as a variety of popular file types, or upload directly to YouTube, Vimeo, or Flickr. Or, if you want, you can save directly to your smartphone or tablet. Simple.

3. CyberLink PhotoDirector 12: Best editor with slideshow options

Cyberlink photodirector 12.

CyberLink PhotoDirector 12 has the right balance of features for anyone looking to create professional-looking slideshows. It's primarily a photo editor, with all the tools you'd expect from a full-featured photo enhancement program, but with the option to create slideshows via the 'Create' tab. The reason we recommend PhotoDirector above other photo editing apps is because it's simple to use and it helps you create incredible results with very little effort, even if it does lack some of the more advanced tools that professional editors need.

There are a whole host of tools for enhancing your photos, including things like dispersion effects, which give you the power to animate particles in your images with ease. This can add a serious wow-factor to your slideshows. There are also editing options for cropping, layers, background changes, and all kinds of creative effects to give your photos some zing.

As a slideshow creator it's simple to use, with various headers, overlays, transitions, and everything you need to craft a compelling presentation. Some who want basic options may find it overwhelming, despite its simplicity, so this really is for anyone looking to create pro-looking slideshows. And it's a little more expensive than some other options in our guide. However, there's no denying you get excellent results.

4. PixGram: Best slideshow app for Android devices

PixGram is one of the best slideshow apps if you want to simply create slideshows and montages on your smartphone. There's a free version and it covers you for almost all the features you need, although you're restricted to three-minute videos/slideshows until you purchase the premium version.

This one is primarily designed to help you set slideshows to music, and to share them direct to social media. You can import images and videos direct from your phone's gallery into the app, and combine it with any music you have purchased and saved to your device. There are plenty of filters to apply to your images, and a decent range of video editing options, but it does lack transitions. What matters most is that this is easy to use, and you can quickly share results to most of the popular social media platforms in a variety of aspect-ratios that each one supports. For example, the 16:9 format suits Facebook, while the 1:1 is perfect for Instagram.

There are definitely limitations here, and if you're using the free version you'll get in-app ads (much like you do in most free apps). Those looking for fancy transitions should consider other options, but anyone who wants to simply create slideshows and montages on their phone, without using a laptop or computer, should seriously consider PixGram.

5. PicPlayPost: Best slideshow app for Apple devices

Picplaypost.

PicPlayPost is a surprisingly powerful slideshow (and video) tool for iOS devices. It has a vast number of features, and can craft montages and slideshows in 1080p and 4K, if you have a compatible iPhone or iPad. You can download it for free, but this version is very limited, and you're definitely going to need to subscribe if you're looking to use the majority of the tools. This is expensive, at $6.99 per month (or an even higher one-time payment), so consider if you're really going to use it that much.

There are so many transitions, sticker, effects, and filters - you can get seriously creative with your slideshows and montages. It's simple to use, but there are loads of deep editing options for those who want to create professional-looking presentations and video montages. You can create gifs, slideshows, movies, and collage images, making this perfect for crafting memes too. The slideshows can last up to 30 minutes, and it'll access music from your device.

If you're constantly adding custom videos and slideshows to social media, this is probably worth the price of subscription, especially as you can create videos and images specifically formatted for social channels. If you're looking for something a little more simple, then this is probably a bit much (ironically, though, the free version doesn't offer enough for even basic use).

6. PhotoStory Deluxe: Best for beginners

Photostory deluxe.

If you're new to the whole photo slideshow thing, and you want a no-nonsense piece of software for your home computer, then PhotoStory Deluxe is just the thing. There's a slideshow wizard to help get you started, and introduce you to most of the main features, and after that the interface is nice and simple. There's a built-in editor too, which lets you enhance and make basic edits to the images you've added, and while options here are relatively limited compared to other editing programs, there's enough here to make your slideshows look rather professional.

You can export your slideshows to most common formats, and there are options for VR slideshows and 360 videos, which is a nice touch. We love the travel map feature too, which allows you to create slideshows that show off all your vacation-snaps. The grandkids will love to see all of those!

There are options to upload your slideshows and videos direct to places like YouTube, although you retain the ability to burn them to a DVD too, in case you want to mail your substantial slideshows to friends, family, or clients. You can simply save them onto your home computer device too. While the editing tools lack features, and we do think this is mid-priced among slideshow creators, it's still worth considering if you're a newcomer seeking to create slideshows to thoroughly entertain your friends and family with.

What features should you look for in slideshow software?

Slideshow software does offer some photo editing options but these are basic and won't replace a fully fledged photo editor. So if you simply want to crop, rotate or remove the redeye from a picture, then this slideshow software may be enough. But for anything more complex you'll be left wanting.

A useful feature to look out for is the ability to arrange your photos by themes. This can help in making it easier to insert appropriate backgrounds and transitions for the slideshow.

The photo organizing software mentioned above can help as it allows you to cut down the images to the best ones only. Being concise is important for a slideshow where too many pictures - especially many similar ones - can really put people off.

Voiceover recording is a really helpful feature which can add another layer of context to what is being seen. Even more valuable if you're sending this to someone and you won't actually be there to explain what's being shown.

Talking of sharing, this is important so be sure your software can export in a file format that's easily accessible. MP4 is a common video file format that most devices will be able to open and more slideshow software should output to. Plus it condenses well meaning it can be sent without taking up too much space or time.

While most of these options are very intuitive, it can pay to have decent help and support, should you wish to try the more complex features on offer. So keep an eye out for this as a useful feature too.

Tips for creating a compelling slideshow

  • According to Memories Renewed , when it comes to slideshows ten to 12 images are typically displayed within a minute. This means that a 100-image slideshow will likely last ten to 12 minutes. Take this into account when creating your slideshows.
  • For an elegant slideshow, don’t use distracting transitions. Stick with a simple fade between images.
  • Choose music and images that are appropriate for the event. You don’t want to play raucous music or have disrespectful photos at a funeral, for example.
  • Know how the slideshow will be used. If it’s going to play in the background it can go on forever. However, if you’re going to draw everyone’s attention to it as a special presentation, keep it short and simple – three to five minutes. People typically don’t have long attention spans.
  • Add statements from loved ones, when appropriate, to make it extra special.
  • Make sure you run through the slideshow beforehand to make sure everything works properly. Fix any problems. This includes the transitions, graphics and music.

The slideshow maker that offers more

With a video slideshow, you’ve got a far higher chance of standing out from the crowd. On social media, videos get shared far more than text and images combined. Likewise, video on a landing page can increase conversions  by 80% or more .

Imagine what you’ll achieve with a gorgeous video slideshow. All you need is a Biteable template and the time it takes to drink a coffee.

Need to collaborate with teammates on a slideshow presentation? No problem. Biteable’s collaborative platform and team-focused features make this a snap.

Begin with a professional template

Biteable offers a huge range of ready-to-use slideshow templates to get you started quickly. They’re created by professional animators and marketers, so every video you make is both beautiful and effective.

Begin with a  template  from the gallery. There are hundreds to browse, conveniently divided by type. Depending on your audience and brand, choose between humorous, tech, professional, and a host of other styles.

Personalize with pictures, videos, and text

Uploading your own videos and photos is easy. Hit ‘Upload’, then select either ‘Image’ or ‘Video’. Navigate to the content you’d like to use, click on it, and it will appear in Biteable. Or drag and drop it into the box provided.

Next, update the text in your slideshow video. Or if you prefer a story without words, you can delete the text altogether. You’re the captain of this ship.

Add extra zest with music

Complete your slideshow with the perfect music track. Either pick a song from the Biteable library or upload one from your own collection.

The right song is essential for slideshows you  embed in email , host on YouTube, or add to your website. If you present your slideshow in person or on social media, audio is less critical, so you might choose to have no sound at all.

Add a clickable call-to-action button

Do you want your audience to take action after watching your slideshow? No problem.  Add a call-to-action button  in a few simple steps.

Track the success of your slideshow

With Biteable’s easy sharing and tracking capabilities, you can measure your success with no extra effort. Simply share your slideshow using the unique link generated in Biteable, then return to the app to  see your video analytics .

Measure how many people watched your slideshow, where they watched it from, and how many stayed tuned all the way to the end.

Create stunning slideshows with these 3 tips

Great slideshows have three simple things in common. Forget them and your viewers will be left wanting. Remember them and your views will skyrocket.

1. Tell a story

All videos need a story to succeed. Whether it’s a 7-second  YouTube marketing ad  or a 2-minute explainer on your website, you have to tell a story. Here are two story structures that are easy to master when creating a slideshow:

If you want to show people something that happened — like your holiday — a linear story is enough. All you have to do is add your slides in the order they occurred.

  • If you’re selling something, start by framing the viewer’s problem then explaining how your product or service solves it.

2. Keep your text short

When it comes to video, a few words will get you further than a lot. Let your videos and pictures do the talking. Keep your text brief and your viewers will love you for it.

Thankfully, every scene in your Biteable video comes with a recommended number of characters to keep your writing sharp. Stay within the limits and your video will be concise and easy to read.

3. Make it visually spectacular

Every great video is a pleasure to watch. Biteable offers a host of options to make your slideshow as engaging as possible. Select from a huge range of  animation , professional video clips, and loads of text effects.

Slideshow maker FAQs

Your questions answered about all things slideshow.

How do I make a slideshow for free?

You can make a slideshow for free, but we don’t recommend this if you’re making it for business. Most paid slideshow apps are reasonably priced and include features like quality stock footage and music, custom animated text, and premium effects. Your slideshow will look more professional with these additions.

How do I make a slideshow of pictures?

Making a slideshow of pictures is easy with the right tool. With a quality online slideshow maker, you can easily upload your pictures and  turn them into video snippets  that look and feel like a professional slideshow. A good slideshow-making app will let you do all this with the click of a button.

How can I make a video slideshow with music and pictures?

Making a video slideshow with music and pictures takes 5 steps:

  • Pick a template. (Good online slideshow apps have plenty.)
  • Upload pictures.
  • Choose music. (Stock music from the app or upload your own.)
  • Add animated text. (Optional.)
  • Share your slideshow. (The best slideshow apps give you a link for easy sharing.)

How can I make a slideshow on my computer?

Making a slideshow on your computer with a desktop app is one option, but you have to store your large slideshow video files on your own computer or cloud storage. Online slideshow apps are a better choice. You still access the app from your computer, but your slideshows are stored on the app and can be shared via a link.

How do I make a slideshow with a video?

Making a slideshow with a video is similar to making one with pictures. You can even combine pictures and video clips into the same slideshow.

  • Upload your pictures and videos into a slideshow app.
  • Click to add them to your slideshow timeline.
  • Drag and drop to adjust the order.
  • Choose a background track.

What is a good video slideshow app?

When it comes to good video slideshow apps, we’re biased toward Biteable (of course). But in general, if you want a professional-looking video slideshow, look for an app that has templates so you don’t have to start from scratch. Also look for an easy-to-use interface and premium features like custom animations and text effects.

Where can I make a slideshow video?

The easiest place to make a slideshow video is on an online video making app. Find an app with slideshow video templates that come pre-built with well-paced transitions. A high-quality app will have easy editing features so you can customize your template as much as you like.

  • Supported OS. Always check the compatibility of the software you choose with your device. There are some programs suitable for several operating systems, but usually they are only compatible with one of the following: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. It is also worth thinking which device you’ll be using to build presentations - a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
  • Ease of use. Some programs can be far too cumbersome and require in-depth mastering. If you're a newbie or don't want to spend time learning the workflow, look for software that has an intuitive interface and automatic features.
  • Price. If you’re on a small budget and don’t intend to create slideshows often, consider choosing a free slideshow app. Can’t seem to find the right one among them due to the limited toolset? Then take a look at some paid software with a free trial period. It allows you to invest your money wisely because you can test out the program before purchasing.
  • Available features. If you need software to make professional-looking presentations quickly and easily, choose the option with an integrated template collection. Want to build more creative and eye-catching presentations? Then opt for a program with lots of effects, transitions, and animations so nothing gets in the way of your creativity.

The Movavi Video Suite has a multitude of features, including video editing and slideshow creation. This is undoubtedly one of the best photo slideshow tools available .

The actual quality of the slideshows is incredible.

When using the program, it gives a split-screen view. The top half shows a preview and upload options, while the bottom gives the slideshow timeline. Moreover, there are additional tools on the left-hand side.

Movavi Slideshow Maker

But don’t let all the tools scare you into thinking it’s too complex to use! Creating a slideshow using Movavi is simple.

It also offers fantastic customization for your slideshows. In addition to this, the layout was easy to grasp – we understood how to add transitions and change the slide lengths in a matter of seconds.

Once you’ve inserted the images, you can add transitions, text, and alter the slide timing. Plus, there’s a host of cool transitions to choose from if you want to get design-y.

The final product can be downloaded as either an MP4, or a GIF, but you can also share the slideshow using a simple share link. This is one downside, as some other photo slideshow makers in this list do provide a much greater variety of export options.

  • Price – Free version available, but slideshows have an Adobe watermark / $10.10 per month for the upgraded version
  • Export Options – Download as MP3 file or share on the Adobe Express website
  • Notable Feature – Ability to create split-screen slideshows with text and images

Does Adobe Express Compare to the Other Best Slideshow Makers?

We think it does. As you’d expect from Adobe, Express is a fun and complete web browser application with many features.

To use Express, you have to have a registered Adobe account. No big deal if you use their other products such as Photoshop and Lightroom.

Adobe offers a wide range of programs for you to use. Express is designed for slideshows and social media posts.

Now, here’s the deal – when using Express, you actually create a video instead of a slideshow. There is a range of slideshow templates you can use, however. Each image is inserted separately and you can add text and captions.

RELATED POST: Adobe Express Review

Moreover, you can change your slideshow to a split-screen view if you want to include a higher amount of text.

This is a great service for those who already have an Adobe Creative Cloud account, as Express is included in the basic Photography Plan.

9. 4K Slideshow Maker

4k Slideshow Maker gives you a simple to use software dedicated to making slideshows. As a free package, 4K offers a fair amount of tools.

  • Export Options – Download as a media file
  • Notable Feature – Download photos directly from Instagram

Looking for an Easy-to-Use Slideshow Creator?

4K Slideshow Maker has to be the easiest application to use on this list. It’s a downloadable program that is available for free. Hard to beat that!

When using 4K Slideshow Maker, we found the program itself to perform exceptionally. It has a simple interface. There isn’t really much to it except a top menu and four creation buttons.

Even when we loaded 20+ images to create a slideshow, the program still ran quickly and processed the show in minutes.

As mentioned, this program is simplistic.

All you can create using this program is a simple slideshow that uses randomized transitions between each photo. But, if that’s all you need from a slideshow maker, this one does it very well.

4k Slideshow Maker

The end quality is fantastic, but customization is non-existent. Simply upload your files (from your computer or Instagram) and press the “Make Slideshow” button.

From there you can choose the aspect ratio, filename, and location. Whilst 4K Slideshow Maker may not allow creativity, it does offer speed and quality.

That being said, if you’re looking for something complete with transitions, this might not be the best slideshow maker for you. You may want to look at one of the other options on the list.

Try 4k Slideshow Maker

Closing Thoughts

Let your imagination run wild using one of these programs and share your photos uniquely. Don’t forget to include cool transitions, sounds, and text to add extra character and meaning to your photos.

I want to create slideshows with audio and download to dvd’s. If I give dvd’s to family, can they play them on their computers without downloading any software? Are they pack and go? Also can I use different songs in a slideshow and tie certain photos to each song?

photoworkout author

Hi Mary, we recommend you download the slideshow or video to a memory stick / DVD in MP4 format (most commonly used format). Both Animoto and Movavi let you export the file in MP4.

I’m trying to decide which software to use. What is a web browser application vs Windows?

The full range of slide show features and functionality varies from program to program.

Once you’ve created a slide show, it can be published on the internet or shared with others as a video file. Additionally, you can use slide shows to create dynamic, interactive content on websites.

What you need to make a slide show

When it comes to creating a slide show, there are a few things you'll need to get started. First and foremost, you'll need a device equipped with presentation software or access to an online slide show app. Secondly, you’ll need a way to display your slide show, which usually means connecting your device to a projector or big screen TV. Beyond that, you’ll need some visual aids and other media to bring your slide show to life.

Explore each of these slide show requirements in more detail:

Devices and equipment —To create a slide show, you’ll use a computer or other device—such as a tablet or mobile phone—with PowerPoint or a similar program installed. You will also need a way to project the slides onto a screen or wall. This can be done with a projector, but if you don't have one available, you can use your TV or computer monitor. Simply connect your device to the TV or monitor using an HDMI cable and select the correct input. Your slides will now be projected onto the screen.

Media —Of course, creating a slide show requires media that adds visual and even audio elements to your presentation. This can be anything from photos and videos to music and text. You can use search engines to find copyright-free media to use in your slide show.

Another option is to purchase royalty-free stock footage, images, and audio files from online media libraries. This could be a bit more expensive, but it guarantees that you have the legal right to use the media in your presentation.

Finally, you can also use your own videos, images, and even music. While this can be a time-consuming process, it does allow you to create custom content specifically for your slide show.

Slide show creator —To bring your slide show together, you’ll need a slide show creator. The slide show software you choose will depend on your presentation requirements and preferences. There are many slide show makers on the market, with Microsoft PowerPoint being one of the most popular and widely used programs globally.

How to choose a slide show maker

When choosing slide show software, it's important to consider the features and specifications that are most important to you. Some of the questions you might ask when choosing a slide show maker include:

  • How easy is the software to use?
  • Is the software Mac or PC compatible?
  • Can I access and edit my slide show on the cloud?
  • What kind of slide shows can be created with the software?
  • How many photos and/or videos can be included in a slide show?
  • Can text and other elements be added to slide shows?
  • Are transitions and effects available for slide shows?
  • Is music accompaniment an option?
  • What are the options for saving and sharing your slide show?

Building a slide show doesn't have to be difficult. With the right software, you can create an engaging presentation in no time.

Six steps for creating a slide show

1. Plan your slide show

Before getting too deep into your slide show project, it’s a good idea to select and save the photos and videos you want to use. This helps you create a slide show more efficiently and purposefully, ensuring a better outcome.

4. Import media

Start adding photos, videos, and other desired media to your slides. You can upload these from your device or online media libraries. If you planned your slide show in advance, you should have all your media saved in one place.

3. Choose your theme

Most slide show software offers a variety of pre-set themes, colors, and designs. You can choose one that best suits your slide show or create a custom theme using the program’s various tools and features.

6. Record, save, and share your slide show

Now you’re ready to record your slide show, which can include a voiceover or Cameo . Once your slide show is complete, you can save it as a video to your device or to the cloud, such as OneDrive . You can access your saved slide show at any time to display at events, use in meetings, share online, or send directly to other people.

How to make a slide show with photos

Adding photos to your slide show is a great way to enliven your presentation and make it more visually interesting. Here are a few different ways you can add photos to your slide show in PowerPoint.

A user adding photos to their PowerPoint presentation

Add photos from your device

Whether you’re using a computer, tablet, phone, or other device, you can use photos that are saved to your device to create your slide show. In PowerPoint, simply select “Insert” then “Pictures” from the program menu, then choose “This Device.” This will open your photo library and allow you to find the photos you want to use. Once you’ve selected the photos that you want to import, just click on the "Insert" button and they will be added to your slide show. If you’re using a pre-made theme, you can also right-click the image in the slide show and select “Change Picture.” Again, you will choose “This Device” to access your photo library. After inserting your photo, you can reposition it on your slide or resize it however you like.

Two people looking at a laptop and pointing at the screen

Use stock photos

Another way to add photos in PowerPoint is to follow the same process you would when adding photos from your device, but when prompted to choose your photo source, select “From Stock Images” instead of “This Device.” This will display a library of photos that you can use in your slide show without worrying about copyright infringement. There are thousands of stock images available in most slide show maker programs. Once the library is open, you can explore existing photo categories or use keywords to search for photos that fit your needs.

Explore online photo sources

Online photos are images you can insert into a PowerPoint slide show directly from the internet, as opposed to using those you have saved on your device. This is a convenient option if you don't have photos already prepared for your slide show, or if you can’t find the right kind of photo in the stock image library. However, there are some potential risks associated with using online photos, namely that you must be careful to use royalty-free images so not to infringe on any copyrights. In PowerPoint, there is a filtering option to ensure your search results only show royalty-free photos. Inserting photos from online sources follows the same process as the previous two methods, but this time, you’ll select “From Online Sources.”

How to add videos, music, and text

How to add videos to PowerPoint slide shows

Adding videos to your slide show involves accessing videos from your device, a stock video library, or online video sources—just as you would when adding photos. In this case, however, you’ll navigate to the menu in PowerPoint and select “Insert,” followed by “Media,” then “Video.” Once your video appears on your slide, you can resize or reposition it to fit your presentation needs. You can also set your video to play automatically in the slide show by selecting “Playback” on the menu and choosing “Start Automatically.”

How to add music to PowerPoint slide shows

Much like adding videos, you can add music to individual slides in PowerPoint by navigating to “Insert” on the menu, then “Media,” and finally “Audio.” You can then import music from your device, or you can record your own audio directly in PowerPoint. However, if you want your audio to play across multiple slides in your presentation—for example, as background music for a slide show—you’ll have to take a couple of extra steps. Once you’ve imported your audio file, select “Playback” from the menu and choose the “Play in Background” option. Your music will now play across all slides. You can set one song to loop for the duration of the slide show, or you can add more songs to play continuously throughout the slide show.

A person using a pen and tablet to add text to a PowerPoint presentation being displayed on a desktop monitor

How to add text to PowerPoint slide shows

Premade themes in PowerPoint make adding text slide shows easy. On slides that already have templated content, you can simply click on the text and begin editing. In addition to changing what the text says, you can resize, recolor, reposition, and add special effects to the text. Of course, you can also change the font—or style—of the text. Most of this can be done from the “Home” tab on the menu while certain effects, such as shadows, can be found on the “Shape Format” tab. If you’re designing your presentation slides from scratch, or want to create additional text, find “Insert” on the menu, then choose “Text Box” or “Word Art,” depending on your desired text effect.

Discover custom slide show settings

Add even more effects to your PowerPoint slide show with custom settings like timing, transitions, and looping.

Set slide show timing

Adding timing to your slide show is a great way to control the pacing and flow of your presentation. To add timing in PowerPoint, go to the "Transitions" tab on the menu and find the "Advance Slide" area. Make sure the box next to “After:” is checked, then input the amount of time you’d like each slide to appear on-screen. The slides will automatically advance, creating a movie-like effect that’s great for events and special occasions.

Create slide show transitions

Now that you’ve added automatic timing to your slide show, you can make it more visually appealing by creating slide transitions. Transitions are special effects that allow you to animate the way your slides change from one to the next, and there are a variety of different transitions in PowerPoint that you can choose from. You can add these transitions to your slide show from the "Transitions” tab. From there, you’ll select the transition you want to add. To preview the transition, simply click on it. You can click “Apply To All” to automatically add the same transition to every slide in your slide show, or you can manually add different transitions to different slides.

Loop your slide show

If you want your slide show to play continuously until you choose to turn it off, you can set your PowerPoint presentation to loop. This will ensure your slide show automatically starts over from the beginning once it reaches the end. To get started, navigate to the “Slide Show” tab on the menu and select “Set Up Slide Show.” When the settings window opens, check the box next to “Loop continuously until ‘ESC’” and then click “OK.” When you’re ready to turn your slide show off, simply press the Esc key on your keyboard.

Usually, slide show makers have a range of built-in features and layouts, making them easy to use, regardless of technical skill levels.

What should a slide show include?

The Best Clips From OpenAI's New Video Generator, So Far

The best clips from openai's new video generator, so far, the chatgpt-maker just unleashed a text-to-video generator called sora. take a look at what your future is going to look like..

One of the more unsettling things about AI is how blisteringly fast the technology develops. A few months ago, it seemed like useful AI-generated video tools were still out of reach. Well, now that’s over. OpenAI just released a new text-to-video generator called Sora . In a word, it’s stunning.

“Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject and background,” said OpenAI in a blog post . “The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world.”

Here’s how Sora’s video are going to exist in the world: in the weirdest and most uncanny way imaginable.

For now, OpenAI is running final tests on Sora to make sure it’s ready for public consumption, and only a handful of select users have access to the tool. But based on what the company and early users have shared, it’s clear the tool is about as capable as the best image generators on the market. There are weird, tell-tale signs you’re looking at AI hallucinations, but when Sora is working well, it can be hard to distinguish the AI’s work from videos captured in the real world.

In the near future, the consequences will be Earth-shaking. The world will fill with deepfakes. People will lose their jobs. Artists will have unprecedented and exciting new opportunities. There will be questions about where OpenAI got the training data. You’ve heard this all before, but video is an entirely different animal from text and images. With widely available AI-video generators at people’s fingertips, we’re about to enter a new era.

The web is slowly filling up with people’s Sora creations. Click through the slideshow to get a preview of what your life is going to look like in the near future. If you’re on mobile, just scroll down.

32 Sandwiches to Take Along for the Ride

By Carly Westerfield

32 Sandwiches Recipes to Put on Repeat

You don’t need a recipe to make a great sandwich (consider the PB&J and olive and cream cheese sandwich ). But the following sandwich recipes are so special, they warrant a full write-up. Allow us to explain:

Plenty of these sandwiches are quick and easy lunchtime heroes, but some are substantial enough to serve for dinner. Others fall squarely into early morning territory. And there are a few that may save you after you come waltzing in the door past midnight. No matter the format, great sandwiches all follow one rule: Texture is everything. Whether you’re building a meatball sub , a chicken salad sandwich , or any other mash-up between two slices of bread, you need something crispy, something crunchy, something soft and creamy, and so on (there’s a reason we put chunks of celery in a tuna melt or melty cheese on a breakfast sandwich ). And this, dear reader, is why our best sandwich recipes are worth filing away and saving in the Epicurious app .

Of course, you can tailor these sandwich ideas to your taste—swap the bread for a flaky croissant or top your Thanksgiving turkey club with a fried egg. But if you follow the recipe, we promise it will be worth it. Now get scrolling—your new favorite sandwich awaits.

Cucumber Sandwich With Green Chutney

Of all the great sandwich recipes in the world, you probably didn’t guess that one of our favorites is a tea sandwich. This easy recipe features thinly sliced cucumbers, tangy whipped cream cheese, and a punchy green sauce, all tucked between two slices of white bread. Cut these fancy sandwiches into dainty diamonds for teatime, or go for one slice down the middle for a light lunch.

The Ultimate Tuna Melt

What makes this tuna melt the “ultimate”? It could be the flurry of fresh dill. Or the briny capers, or the pickled jalapeños. Or it could be all of the above, in one perfect sandwich.

Sloppy Joes

Sloppy joes are the perfect way to get dinner on the table, fast. We recommend serving them with an equally quick coleslaw , but the chips and pickles are nonnegotiable.

How To Make The Best Mac & Cheese Of Your Life

Who's in your cheese trifecta?

homemade mac and cheese baked with breadcrumbs

I started making mac & cheese when I was five with help from the blue box. I’ve come a long way since then, cooking other people’s recipes and experimenting with my own. For this article, I consulted with Clare Malfitano, chef at Murray’s Cheese , to get her unique perspective. Here are my top tips for how to make the best mac & cheese of your life—because sometimes the boxed stuff just isn’t good enough.

1. Grab the Right Pasta

Choosing the ideal pasta is key. You want a shape that will hold as much cheese as possible without getting completely lost in it. (We’re not making cheese pasta soup here.) For me, that’s cavatappi . With two or three twists per piece, these little corkscrews are perfect for trapping the maximum amount of cheesy sauce and compact enough to so multiple noodles can fit on your fork at once. Is it traditional? No. Does it make a superior mac & cheese? Absolutely.

2. choose a cheese trifecta.

Sure, one or two cheeses will make a decent mac & cheese. But to make the best mac & cheese of your life, you’ll need to spring for a trifecta. You should have three different cheeses, each playing a different role in your cheese sauce. Malfitano agrees: “With three cheeses...you get a great balance of flavor. You can pull in acidity, salinity, umami, and other flavors.” Here’s how this trifecta breaks down.

  • You need a solid “base cheese” to bring the foundation of flavor to your sauce. Malfitano prefers cheddar (as do I), but other options include monterey or colby jack. Anything that melts well and carries a strong, but not overwhelming, cheese flavor.
  • You need a funky cheese with an assertive flavor profile, like gruyere or fontina. Don’t be afraid of strong flavor here: this cheese’s job is to give your sauce extra dimension. Malfitano prefers French raclette, a washed rind cheese with a pungent nature. She says that while people might be unsure about the smell of this cheese, it “creates a mac you can’t stop eating.”
  • For a finishing touch, you need a sharp, aged cheese with a salty zing to make that sauce pop. I love Parmigiano Reggiano here. Other great options include parmesan, pecorino romano, aged provolone, or even manchego. You’ll only use a little of this cheese—a few ounces at most—but it’s absolutely essential to your sauce. The sharp cheese makes the other two cheeses shine.

3. Make a Béchamel (Just Do It)

Once your cheese line-up is set, the next step is making a béchamel . If this sounds complicated, it’s not. Basically, you’re just stirring together equal parts butter and flour in a pot until they start foaming across the bottom of the pan and turn the color of straw; it usually takes one to two minutes. Slowly whisk in milk and keep stirring until the mixture starts to bubble and thicken. Congratulations: you’ve just made béchamel, the perfect creamy base to hold all that cheesy goodness.

At this point, you can stir in some seasonings. I like dry mustard because it really accents the cheese, plus cayenne for a little zip. Fold the seasonings into the cheese until it’s melted. I strongly recommend doing this off the heat because too much high heat might make the cheese separate. But if you're having trouble getting the cheese to melt, you can put the pot back over low heat for a few seconds, just to bring the temperature up a little.

4. Undercook Your Pasta

One of the biggest keys to a great mac & cheese is to undercook your pasta. And I don’t mean just cook it al dente . I mean undercook it so there’s a ring of white uncooked pasta in the center when you bite into it. Why? You’re about to fold it into that amazing cheese sauce, and you want it primed to actually absorb and meld with that sauce. Undercooking at this stage means you also won’t risk overcooking it when you bake it in the oven (see #5 below). No one wants mushy mac & cheese.

5. Bake It Happen

At this point, you could absolutely eat the cheesy pasta straight out of the pot—it would taste pretty great. But if you want the ultimate mac & cheese experience, you’ll want to bake it. Baking allows the pasta to more fully absorb the cheese sauce, fusing both together into one cohesive bite. It also browns the cheese on top, creating what Malfitano calls “an almost cheese crust” and “a really complex flavor that can’t be replicated in a stovetop mac.”

If you choose to top your mac & cheese with buttery breadcrumbs before popping it in the oven, you’ll be rewarded with a golden crispy top that beautifully contrasts with the soft and cheesy pasta below.

Bake your mac & cheese, people. It might take a little longer, but the best mac & cheese of your life is worth a few extra minutes.

I made slider recipes from Eddie Jackson, Bobby Flay, and Ina Garten. The best had the simplest seasonings.

  • I made sliders using recipes from Ina Garten , Eddie Jackson, and Bobby Flay.
  • Garten's version used Gruyere cheese and arugula, but reminded me more of a meatball.
  • Flay's sliders were my winner because they were delicious and had a homemade sauce.

Insider Today

When I'm in need of crowd-pleasing party food , I immediately think of reliable, delicious sliders. To find the best recipe, I made sliders from celebrity chefs Ina Garten, Eddie Jackson, and Bobby Flay.

I don't have access to an outdoor grill , so I cooked all of the sliders on a skillet.

Here's how each slider stacked up.

Garten’s sliders seemed easy enough to make.

From the ingredients alone, I could tell Garten's recipe would be the most highbrow of the sliders.

The recipe called for 2 pounds of ground beef , Gruyere cheese, baby arugula, tomatoes, red onions, ketchup, Dijon mustard, fresh thyme, garlic, and olive oil.

Chopping the thyme and garlic took a little time, but the recipe wasn't difficult to follow.

I combined the fresh herbs and meat before forming the patties.

I started by mixing the Dijon mustard, olive oil, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper into the meat.

Then, I formed the beef into patties and cooked them over medium-high heat.

I topped Garten's patties with cheese while they were cooking.

I flipped the burgers and topped each patty with grated Gruyere, which melted nicely.

Each patty went on a toasted brioche bun with arugula, red onions, and a slice of tomato on top.

Garten's finished sliders looked picture-perfect.

Garten's sliders presented well, thanks to the colorful combination of veggies. They were also delicious, with sweetness from the tomato, the nutty, creamy taste of Gruyere, and a peppery bitterness from the arugula.

However, they didn't feel like traditional cheeseburgers. It was more like eating a delightful, herbaceous, thyme-heavy meatball.

The recipe was simple enough, and I could easily imagine myself making these again. But they're not something I'd serve at a party.

At first, Jackson’s recipe for Caribbean-jerk sliders seemed overwhelming.

slideshow maker the best

At first glance, the list of ingredients for Jackson's Caribbean-jerk sliders looked overwhelming, and I could tell this recipe would undoubtedly be the most complex of the three.

The recipe, which included instructions for making red-ale onion rings and jerk ketchup to go with the sliders, called for 1 pound of ground chuck, mild cheddar, brioche buns, and a range of spices.

I noticed most of the seasonings — allspice, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red-pepper flakes, brown sugar, and thyme — were used in both the burger meat and the jerk ketchup.

To save time, I mixed 2 ½ teaspoons of each spice to make a special blend before I started.

I added a lot of seasonings to the meat.

slideshow maker the best

First, I mixed my spice blend with the ketchup, lime juice, and a little salt to make the jerk ketchup. It was an excellent sauce, as it was tangy, sweet, spicy, and warm.

Then, I mixed the rest of the seasonings and some salt into the ground beef.

Jackson's recipe said to press an indent into the center of each slider patty. I assumed this was so they wouldn't swell up in the center while cooking, but I didn't think it made much of a difference.

While the sliders were cooking, I also made the onion rings to go along with the burger.

To give the sliders even more flavor, I toasted the buns.

slideshow maker the best

Jackson's recipe also called for grilling the rolls.

When they got toasty, I covered them with a dollop of jerk ketchup and added the patties with melted cheddar cheese, and an onion ring.

Jackson's finished sliders were super tasty.

slideshow maker the best

Jackson's sliders were fantastic. The fried onion rings added crunch to the spicy , sweet mix of jerk seasonings and ketchup.

The laborious recipe isn't something I'd make again unless the sliders were the only thing I'd be serving. If I were to make them again, I'd try them as full-sized burgers .

Flay’s sliders with chipotle mayonnaise didn't seem too complicated to make.

slideshow maker the best

Flay's slider recipe , which included instructions for a chipotle mayonnaise, was simpler and more customizable than the others.

The recipe called for mayonnaise, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, lime, black pepper, 1 to 1 ½ pounds of ground chuck, cheese slices, burger buns, pickles, and red onions.

The most complicated part of the recipe was making the chipotle mayonnaise, which wasn't difficult.

Flay's slider patties required few seasonings.

slideshow maker the best

I made the chipotle mayo by blending the mayonnaise, lime juice, chipotle peppers, and adobo sauce in a food processor. When I tasted it, the flavor was smoky and spicy but not overpowering.

Then, I seasoned the ground beef with salt and pepper.

I cooked Flay's sliders and served them with all of the toppings.

slideshow maker the best

I formed the beef patties, cooked both sides on a skillet, and laid the cheese on top. The recipe said to go with your own choice of cheese, so I went with colby jack.

The recipe also recommended serving the sliders at a burger bar with pickles, red onions, and chipotle mayonnaise, so I went with all three toppings.

Flay's finished sliders were amazing.

slideshow maker the best

Flay's burgers were phenomenal. The combination of beef, pickles, onions, and mayo created the familiar flavor of a Big Mac but with a fresher, homemade feel.

The spiciness of the chipotle amplified everything, and the smoky flavor kept the sliders interesting.

Flay's sliders were my winner.

slideshow maker the best

Flay's slider recipe would be perfect as a party appetizer because the chipotle mayo could easily be made beforehand.

The next time I'm craving sliders but don't want to spend too much time in the kitchen, I'll make this recipe.
