"Sir, for the greater interest of the animals in this forest, we've decided to send one animal to you for your prey everyday. We shall come to you by ourselves and you don't have to take the trouble of hunting everyday."

The lion agreed. Now the animals could live in peace. Everyday one animal would go to the lion and the lion would eat it. One-day it was the turn of a hare. The hare thought and thought for a long time and made a plan. He went late to the lion. The lion was very angry with the hare for its late arrival. The lion roared, "Why are you so late?"

The hare said, "Sir, I came early but another lion attacked me on the way. I somehow managed to come here".

The hare then led the lion to a well and said that the other lion lived in that well. As the lion looked into the well, it mistook its own reflection to be another lion and jumped there. All the animals of the forest were now saved.

Moral: A brain is mightier than a sword.

10. Outline: A rich man's watch stolen by one of the servants ... gives each servant a stick of equal length ... saying the thief's stick will grow an inch tomorrow ... thief cuts an inch from the stick ... is caught.

A Stupid Thief

There lived a rich man in a village. He had many servants in his house. One day he discovered that his watch was missing. He understood that it must have been stolen by one of his servants. He asked all the servants about the watch. None confessed the theft. He made a plan to find out the thief. He gave each servant a stick of equal length in the evening. He declared that these sticks were all magic sticks. He told the servants that if anyone had stolen the watch, his stick would grow an inch longer during the night. The servant who stole the watch could not sleep the whole night. He became restless. Out of fear, he cut short his stick by an inch. The next morning, the rich man collected the sticks and easily discovered the thief.

Moral: Dishonesty cannot be hidden.

SEBA Class 10 Letter Writing Solution (2011-2024) for HSLC Exam | HSLC Important Letter Writing for Exam | SEBA Common Letter Writing for HSLC 2024

What is Letter Writing?

Letter writing is a form of communication that involves writing a message to someone in a formal or informal manner. Letter writing is an important skill that is tested in the SEBA Class 10 English exam.

Letter writing can be divided into two types: formal and informal .

Formal letters are written for official, business, or academic purposes. They follow a set format and use a polite and respectful language. Formal letters are usually written to authorities, organizations, institutions, or people whom we do not know personally.

Some examples of formal letters are:

  • - Letter to the editor of a newspaper
  • - Letter of complaint to a company
  • - Letter of application for a job
  • - Letter of inquiry to a college
  • - Letter of invitation to a seminar

Informal letters are written for personal, social, or casual purposes. They do not follow a strict format and use a friendly and conversational language. Informal letters are usually written to friends, relatives, or people whom we know well.

Some examples of informal letters are:

  • - Letter to a friend inviting him/her for a picnic
  • - Letter to a cousin congratulating him/her on his/her success
  • - Letter to a pen pal describing your hobbies
  • - Letter to a teacher thanking him/her for his/her guidance
  • - Letter to a grandparent wishing him/her a happy birthday

How to Write a Letter for SEBA Class 10 Exam?

Writing a letter for the SEBA Class 10 exam is not a difficult task if you follow some simple steps. Here are some general guidelines on how to write a letter for the SEBA Class 10 exam:

  • - Identify the type of letter you have to write. Is it a formal or an informal letter? This will help you decide the format, style, and tone of your letter.
  • - Plan your letter before you start writing. Think of the purpose, audience, and content of your letter. Make a rough outline of the main points you want to include in your letter.
  • - Write your letter in a clear and concise manner. Use simple and appropriate words and sentences. Avoid spelling and grammatical errors. Use paragraphs to organize your ideas and make your letter easy to read.
  • - Follow the format of the letter.

Depending on the type of letter, you have to include the following elements in your letter:

  •   - Sender's address : This is the address of the person who is writing the letter. It is written on the top left corner of the letter. It consists of the house number, street name, locality, city, and pin code. Do not write your name here.
  •   - Date : This is the date on which the letter is written. It is written below the sender's address on the left side. It consists of the day, month, and year. You can write the date in different ways, such as 15th February 2024, 15/02/2024, or 15-02-2024.
  •   - Receiver's address : This is the address of the person to whom the letter is written. It is written below the date on the left side. It consists of the name, designation, organization, and address of the receiver. For informal letters, you can write only the name and address of the receiver.
  •   - Salutation : This is the greeting that you use to start your letter. It is written below the receiver's address on the left side. It consists of a word followed by a comma, such as Dear Sir/Madam, Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms., Dear Principal, Dear Friend, etc. For informal letters, you can also use informal salutations, such as Hi, Hello, Dear, etc.
  •   - Subject : This is the brief and precise statement that tells the purpose of your letter. It is written below the salutation on the left side. It consists of a few words followed by a colon, such as Subject: Complaint regarding defective product, Subject: Application for the post of accountant, Subject: Invitation for a birthday party, etc. For informal letters, you can skip the subject line.
  •   - Body : This is the main part of your letter where you write your message. It is written below the subject line on the left side. It consists of three paragraphs: introduction, main content, and conclusion. In the introduction, you introduce yourself and state the reason for writing the letter. In the main content, you provide the details and facts related to your purpose. In the conclusion, you summarize your message and request or suggest a course of action. Subject : Urgent Concern - Frequent Power Cuts in our Locality

To The Editor,

I am writing to bring attention to a persistent issue that has been plaguing our locality—frequent power cuts or load shedding. The residents of [Your Locality] have been experiencing regular disruptions in electricity supply, causing inconvenience and disrupting daily life.

The erratic power supply has not only affected households but has also had adverse effects on local businesses, education, and healthcare services. Residents are facing difficulties in managing daily chores, and students are finding it challenging to study during crucial examination periods.

We believe that through the coverage in your esteemed newspaper, we can draw attention to this issue and encourage swift action from the relevant authorities. Our community deserves a reliable power supply to thrive and contribute to the overall development of the region.

2. Write a Letter to the Editor of your local English newspaper about frequent road accidents in your city.

 h.s.l.c. 2012   .

To, The Editor The Assam Tribune Dated: 18th Feb, 2021 Sub : Frequent road accidents in our city. Sir, Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw  the attention of the concerned authority towards the problem of frequent road accidents in our city. For the last two months the number of road accidents has been tremendously increasing. More than ten persons have died so far and more than thirty have injured in this period according to a media report. So definitely there is an overwhelming sense of fear amongst the residents of the city. The road accidents are mainly caused due to the harsh biking habits of the youth and drink and drive cases. Moreover, the roads are not wide enough to handle the increasing rush of motor vehicles during morning and afternoon hours. The situation cannot be handled by the few numbers of traffic police the city has. So, the police department of motor vehicles should take proper initiative to recruit more traffic police personnel. The roads should be widened. The youth must exercise great control while driving and parents should not hand over a motorbike to an under eighteen boy.

 Yours Faithfully Mr. X …..city

8. Write a letter to the Editor of a local daily expressing your concern over the incidents of crime against women in Assam. [H.S.L.C. 2019]

H.S.L.C. 2019

To, The Editor The Assam Tribune Dated: 10th Feb, 2021 Sub: Crime against women in Assam. Sir, Through this column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authority towards a serious issue faced by our state i.e. crime against women. In today’s world, the woman has a discrete role to play towards the growth and development of the country. In ancient days, women had to face many odd social conventions which curtailed the freedom of women. Even though modern society has opened its doors to women, yet the environment in which they have to survive is not as much more favorable than the one they had ages back. Reportedly there has been shocking growth of crimes against women in Assam. There is at least one news seen published in newspapers reporting such pathetic crimes. Everyday women, have to be a subject of therapists, chain snitches, acid attackers, and whatnot? Witchcraft is a myth. But, in Assam every year many women are lynched in suspect of witchcraft practice. Dowry death has become very common nowadays in Assam. Very, unfortunately, the number of cases registered for such crimes is increasing day by day. The interesting part here is that many offenses are not reported and go unheard. The society must wake up now. When they talk about equality, they must also provide an unpolluted society for women. The police force must be active and there must be more numbers of women police in the police department. There must be the installation of CCTV cameras in the prone areas. The society must remember that if women are not safe then the society will also be at stake. Yours Faithfully Mr. Krrish Das …..Locality 9. 10. 28. Write a letter to your father/guardian telling him how you faced the last examination.

H.S.L.C. 2021/22

My Dear father,

I thank you heartily for your recent sweet letter/cheery note. I here trust with you about how I faced the last examination for your anxious/interest to know.

I had been preparing for the examination with full activity and sincerely. I had prepared a time table/routine for my all subjects. I had been reading two subjects (write the two subjects like ……..and……… in place of ‘two subjects’) in morning and two subjects in afternoon and the other two at night. I also managed two hours for extra coaching classes from one experienced teacher to solve my problems and the test papers. With daily reading, I had also cared for my health and exercise regularly in the morning.

During the examination, at first I read the paper carefully and had written the entire questions to the actual points. The uncommon questions were also easy for me for reading and understanding the whole book thoroughly before the examination. Your prayers, advices and encourages support me to do so well on it.

I hope you may be glad and I pray to God to send you most prosperity/prosper in your every moment and time.

Yours lovingly/sincerely

{Outline: A hungry fox sees a crow with a piece of meat – wishes to have the piece of meat – praises the crow – asks the crow to sing – the crow sings – the piece of meat falls down from her beak – the fox picks it up and runs away.}

                                A Flattering Fox

Jack, the fox was infamous in the jungle for his mischievous behavior. He used to put other animals in trouble using his clever ideas. Because of his mischiefs, other animals did not like to be his friends.

One day Jack, the fox set out on a journey along the jungle. After covering a long distance, he felt tired and decided to take a little bit of rest under a tree. He was equally hungry too. Then, his eyes fell on a crow sitting in the tree. The crow had a piece of meat in the beak. The fox could not stop his temptation and wanted to have it.

An idea suddenly crept in his mind. He, with a very soft voice, called the crow. “Your voice is god gifted, whenever I hear you singing, I feel I am lost in heaven.” The crow was amused.

Jack further spiced up the conversation, “Will you sing a song for me? It will be my biggest pleasure if I hear you from very near.” The crow lost all the control. It could not refuse such a humble request and opened its mouth to sing.

Lo! As soon as it opened its beak, the piece of meat fell down. The fox took the piece and said, “You are too foolish to sing a song for me.” The crow understood that it was deceived by the fox. Thus, the fox was able to relinquish his hunger using his master tricks.

2. H.S.L.C. 2017, 2019

Write a story in about 150 words using the outlines given below and adding a title to it:

{Outline: A car hits an old man and escapes – he is injured badly – crowd gather on the spot – only show sympathy – they speak about the evil of rash driving – nobody comes forward to help the man – two school boys arrive – feel sorry for the man – take him to hospital.}

Better to light a Candle than curse the Darkness

Mehta uncle, at the age of sixty, was as old as his age. He lived at the outskirt of the town in a solitary house. He was a retired pensioner. Every month he used to go to the town to collect his pension.

So, Mehta uncle’s this month’s visit to town was not an exception, apart from the fact that this time his bad luck was also with him. He travelled to the town in a public bus and got out off the bus in front of the bank. He tried to cross the road to reach the bank. But lo! He did not reach the other side. People heard a crashing sound and after a blink of an eye, Mehta uncle was seen lying on the road with blood stains all around. There was a hue and cry. The car which hit him, disappeared after the road took a curvy shape, a few yards away from the accident spot. The crowd gathered and stood helpless. They started gossiping about the reckless driving and cursed the driver. Meanwhile, two school boys Ram and Sham were also going to school through the road. They saw Mehta uncle and understood that his condition was serious. Making no further delay, they called the ambulance and took him to a hospital.

Mehta uncle was totally cured now. He thanked Ram and Sham for saving his life. He blessed the boys and said, “People are more curious to know who did the mistake, but no one is interested to make it correct. It is easier said than done.”

3. H.S.L.C. 2018

{Outline: Twelve fools start on a journey – cross a river – count themselves – each one not counting himself - each time counts eleven – passerby offers to produce the twelfth man – pays each fool a blow – counts twelve}

Mystery of Twelfth Fool

There lived an old man in a village. He had twelve sons, but they were very foolish and idle. The old man was very upset and worried. He advised them to get some work. Finally, they decided that they would travel along the country to find some profitable work.

Accordingly, they set out on a journey to hunt some profitable work for them. For many a day, they kept on walking and left behind many villages and cities. One day they reached on the bank of a river. They had to swim across the river in order to go ahead. When they reached the other side, they thought that one of their brothers might be left behind and they should check it. The eldest brother counted but found eleven. He was horrified. Each one of them tried to find their lost brother, but could not. How could it be?

Actually, each time they were counting, they were omitting the one who was trying to make the tally. Thus skipped, the countingresulted a total of eleven. Then a passerby saw their trouble and understood their foolishness. He, in order to rescue them, gave a blow to each one of them and thus he made a tally of twelve. The brothers were happy to see their brother back. They, then thanked the stranger and happily restarted their journey.

Moral: A foolish man makes a simple situation a terrible one,

whereas the wise make the hardest situation simpler.
