YouTube: What is YouTube?

Lesson 1: what is youtube.

YouTube is a free video sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos. You can even create and upload your own videos to share with others. Originally created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month.

If you've ever watched a video online, there's a good chance it was a YouTube video. For example, almost all of the video tutorials on our website are actually YouTube videos!

Why use YouTube?

One reason YouTube is so popular is the sheer number of videos you can find. On average, 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute , so there's always something new to watch! And you'll find all kinds of videos on YouTube—adorable cats, quirky cooking demos, funny science lessons, quick fashion tips, and a whole lot more.

Check out a few of the YouTube videos below. They should give you a good idea of the wide range of content available on YouTube.

Another reason YouTube is so popular: It's all about user-generated content . Instead of videos from major TV networks and movie studios, you'll find amazing and creative videos made by people just like you. And YouTube isn't a one-way street—you can jump in, record and share your own videos, and become a part of the community.

Is YouTube appropriate for everyone?

With so much content on YouTube, it's important to note that not all YouTube videos are appropriate for everyone , especially children under the age of 13. However, there are tools you can use, such as Safety Mode , to restrict the types of videos you can view. We'll talk more about this in our lesson on using parental controls .

About this tutorial

If you've ever used any of the other free, self-paced tutorials on our website, you may notice that this tutorial is structured a bit differently. Rather than combining related tasks into longer lessons, we decided to break up important skills into short, task-based lessons. We hope this makes it easier for you to jump around from lesson to lesson and find the answer you need. If you prefer to go step by step, that's fine too! Just work through the lessons in order.

Throughout this tutorial, you'll see that we've recorded our own YouTube videos (like the one above) to give you a bit more context and information on certain topics. In addition to our own content, you'll find several videos from the official YouTube Help channel to show you the specifics of using the YouTube interface.

What kinds of videos can I use in a presentation?

Videos are an amazing way to liven up your presentation. Especially when you're talking for a long time, the audience tends to get tired. That's where a variation of multimedia elements, such as videos, can be helpful. We recommend putting videos in the main part of a presentation, but of course you may also start or finish by presenting a video to your audience. There is no limit for the type of video, the only guideline you should follow is relevance. Before mindlessly pasting a video to your slide, ask yourself: "What purpose does this video fulfill within my presentation?" Is it supposed to inform and teach the audience, is it something you really want everybody to see, or is it just a funny little clip to lighten the mood? All of those purposes are fine. With this tip, you're one step closer to a wonderful presentation! If you want to learn more about successful presentations and Audience Engagement, check out our blogpost Top 10 Tools for increasing Audience Engagement .

Set the start of your video

After you've added a video from YouTube, it starts to play by default when you click anywhere on the slide during the presentation. That's usually fine, but can sometimes be annoying, e.g. when you have more than one video on one slide. In that case, it is helpful to set the Start to When clicked on . The video then won't start until you click directly on it. You can do that by first clicking on your video, going to the Playback tab on the right and then select When clicked on in the Start-selection. By choosing Automatically here, your video will start automatically, without having to click on it.

Add a video from your device

If you want to add a video that is saved on your computer, you can do so by following the tutorial in our article Insert a local Video .

Useful Keyboard Shortcuts

1. Be prepared and know your subject

15 Ways To Develop Better YouTube Presentation Skills - Practice, practice, practice. This is an important thing to do if you want to develop great Youtube presentation skills

The first and the most important tip of all is to know your stuff.

If it is your area of expertise, you may not need to do as much preparation. But if the topic is less familiar to you, make sure you brush up on the subject so that you can speak confidently and not worry that you can’t speak on camera.

Whether you are an expert in the field or a relative novice, always prepare a bullet list of what you want to say.

It does not always have to be a written list; it could just be a mental note to yourself. But I prefer to work with a physical list placed close to the camera lens.

Opens in a new tab.

The bullet list is a kind of security blanket, allowing you to calm your presentation nerves. You will know that you will cover all the necessary points and in the correct order.

The list assures you that the structure of the video is as you intended rather than in the order you remembered the points.

Knowing that you are on top of your subject matter and properly prepared will give you confidence in front of the camera.

If instead, you are unprepared and you know you are going to have to fill your video with fluff and repetition, subconsciously that will make you feel uncomfortable and nervous.

So, prepare, know your stuff, and give your viewer value with the quality of your content. Adopting that approach will help calm your nerves in front of the camera. This really will help you with your YouTube presentation skills

2. Use a teleprompter

A written script is a step up from a bullet list. It is a huge help if you find it difficult to speak unprompted or if you need to use precise technical words or phrases.

It can be stressful trying to remember your lines, but a teleprompter makes the process a lot easier.

You could go down the route of getting a professional teleprompter with a beam splitter, but it really isn’t necessary.

Provided you have at least 6.5ft (2m) between you and the camera, you can use a teleprompter app on an iPad.

Place the iPad next to or above the camera lens and at 6ft or more. At that distance, no one will notice you’re not looking directly into the lens.

Download a teleprompter app that is either voice-activated or has a remote control. This will ensure you will be less stressed.

With this kind of teleprompter, you won’t have to worry about keeping up or running out of words.

If you feel you can’t speak on camera, getting a teleprompter will go a long way to change your mind.

3. Keep things as normal as possible

Making videos may be a whole new world to you. But if you can keep things as normal as possible, you’ll find it a whole lot less stressful.

In other words, rather than stepping into an alien world of video production, try and bring video into your world.

Shoot your video in your office or lounge.

If possible, avoid lots of fancy lights that can be distracting and off-putting.

Choose clothing and makeup that you would normally wear. It will help normalize the situation.

Little things can make you feel a lot more comfortable. So, take time to incorporate them into your preparation for the shoot if you want to up your YouTube presentation skills.

4. Slow down

presentation about youtube

One huge giveaway that you’re nervous is speaking quickly, or at least quicker than normal.

Behind the break-neck pace is the thought that the quicker you go, the sooner you’ll be finished.

The faster you got, the more likely you will stumble over your own words.

So don’t do it.

Keeping the pace relaxed will make it easier for you to get the script right. Plus, your audience will also find it easier to follow what you’re saying.

So, before you start, close your eyes, and take a couple of deep breaths. Now open your eyes and look up into the lens of the camera. You’ll be more relaxed and can start speaking calmly and at a measured pace.

5. Don’t overexert yourself before filming

presentation about youtube

If you’re still worried that you can’t speak on camera, my fourth tip is not to overexert yourself just before filming.

Your pulse rate, respiration, and perspiration will be elevated after strenuous exercise. None of which will help you relax.

You’ll be conscious of heavy breathing, being flushed and perspiring and you won’t be able to appear calm in front of the camera.

If you are in that state take a few minutes to relax, cool down, and get yourself looking good.

Only then should you roll the camera.

6. Do a few warm-up exercises

Strenuous exercise is out of the question, but you can do some light warm-up exercises.

A few stretches will help you relax.

Rotate your shoulders and neck to loosen up.

Then try some breathing exercises. Close your eyes and breathe in and out slowly, concentrating on the rise and fall. Don’t try rapid breathing, you’re not trying to hyperventilate.

7. Don’t worry about being judged

You may be getting anxious because you think your viewers will judge you. I would like to say that they won’t, but they will.

The way you look, sound and dress will be noticed. It’s going to happen whatever you do, and there’s nothing you can do about it. So, if you can’t do anything to prevent it, don’t even worry about it. Just try and get over it.

Most of your viewers are not going to be judgemental. They’re watching because they want to hear what you have to say, whether it’s to learn from you or be entertained by you.

So, if someone makes a negative comment, don’t get anxious.

You’re never going to please everyone.

Develop a thick skin and accept that some people will hate you. Then embrace the viewers who love you because they WILL want to hear from you.

You will never please everyone, so don’t try. If you do, try to please everyone you’ll become bland and boring. You’ll no longer be the remarkable voice that you are.

So, chill. Relax. Be yourself. Your fans will love you for it.

8. Imagine you’re speaking to a friend

I’ll admit it. When I first had to speak at a seminar it was a little bit daunting.

So, I can understand that the thought of speaking to a large video audience can be scary.

Instead of thinking that you’re talking to a huge video audience, imagine you’re speaking to an individual behind the camera.

Better still. Imagine the individual is a friend, and you’re explaining something.

That’s a much less stressful situation than imagining you are talking to a huge crowd. After all, you have conversations every day without getting stressed. So, you CAN do it in front of a camera.

The truth is that it’s easier than real-world conversations. If you make a mistake in front of the camera you can stop and start again.

9. Use the chocolate bar method of filming

The more complicated you make the video shoot the more worried you will become.

So keep it super simple.

For instance, don’t give yourself too much to remember, whether that be what you have to say or do.

This especially applies to your first few videos where you are just learning how to do the basics.

Your video is likely to be at least a minute or two long. That can seem like forever and intimidate you into not starting.

But what if your video was just 10sec long?

I bet you could manage to record something as short as 10sec.

Now, if you can do a 10sec video, you can do a minute, five-minute, or ten-minute video. Moreover, it wouldn’t be any more stressful than doing a short 10sec video.

I know. You’re thinking, how’s that possible ?

It’s quite simple and relies on the fact that viewers, unlike traditional video professionals, don’t care about jump cuts. That’s where you seem to shift position between lines.

So, break up your script into short 5 or 10sec sections, that’s about 12 – 25 words respectively. Then record your video one section at a time or one chunk at a time.

You’ll feel a lot less anxious knowing there are just one or two lines to record at a time. That removes the pressure of thinking you must get to the end of a long script and be word perfect.

Record your script as short paragraphs or even phrases.

I call it the Chocolate Bar method of filmmaking.

You bite off one chunk at a time and you’ll get it all finished in no time.

When you come to edit your footage just cut the sections together.

Sure, there will be small jumps in your position, but your audience won’t care. It’s your amazing content they want, not Hollywood production values.

Record in short chunks and relax. It’s just like eating chocolate.

10. Practice and familiarize yourself with the script

We worry if the future is uncertain but feel happy and relaxed if we know what’s coming next. It’s the same when you’re presenting your videos.

Because you’re unsure of what’s coming up that gets you anxious. The greater your anxiety the more likely you’ll make a mistake and convince yourself that you can’t present your YouTube video.

The obvious answer is to read your script in advance.

Don’t read it in your head, read it aloud. You’ll understand where you need to slow down, where to add emphasis and what you need to stress.

You’re not trying to learn your lines; you just need to know what to anticipate. Consequently, you will feel more relaxed and present the script, so it sounds more natural.

Having had a practice, you will feel much more confident when the camera starts to roll.

11. Just be yourself

You’re not a TV presenter, so don’t try and be a fake one.

Some of your audience may even know you and think it’s weird if you put on a completely different persona.

Pretending to be someone you are not takes acting skill. Unless you’re an actor make it as easy for yourself as possible.

Just be yourself.

You know how to do that, so you’ll find presenting is much easier and you’ll be less awkward in front of the camera.

12. Mark up the script and make it your own

Make the script your own, especially if someone else has written it for you.

This is a YouTube presentation skill that’s about reading someone else’s words making them your own.

Adjust the words and phrasing so it sounds natural to you.

Speaking in ‘your own voice’ will seem easier and be more comfortable while presenting to camera.

Don’t include words that you wouldn’t normally use. It won’t sound like you and you’ll feel awkward and uncomfortable speaking that way.

So, make slight changes to the script to keep your performance natural and real.

13. Comfortable clothing with make you feel less awkward

This is one of those YouTube presentation skills that’s about making sure you feel comfortable.

Choose clothing that you feel comfortable in. Clothing that makes you feel good and confident.

If you feel awkward wearing a jacket collar and tie, that will show through, and you’ll appear awkward on-screen.

So, wear what you feel comfortable in to help dispel your anxiety.

14. Get a friend to help boost your YouTube presentation skills

You’ve probably heard the saying, ‘there’s strength in numbers’. Well, it can apply to your performance in front of the camera.

If feeling nervous about filming is a problem, remember that a problem shared is a problem halved.

What’s that?

Invite a friend to join you in the video. Do the video with a co-presenter or even as an interview.

If you decide to work with a co-presenter, it’s easy to get out of situations when you feel yourself drying up. If you feel stuck for what to say next, hand over to your partner. Do it in a natural way rather than just stopping though .

You could ask them for their opinion about what you just said or ask them if they have anything to add. There are many ways of handing over to your co-presenter. You could even ask them what’s coming up next.

Just like a script or cue cards are a safety net for you, having a co-presenter can work in the same way. If necessary, they ca n pick up the narrative while you get a chance to consider what to say next.

With a co-presenter, you don’t have to work to a fixed script.

The video could be recorded as a kind of conversation between the two of you. Each of you contributing your opinions on the topic you’re covering.

Or you could get your friend to interview you. Whether it’s a conversation or interview it will be easy to talk or answer questions because you know your subject.

Another advantage of working with someone else is that if either of you starts to ramble, the other is there to bring the conversation back to the topic of the piece and drive the video forward.

You will also potentially come up with more ideas for videos and how to do them if you work with another presenter. You can bounce ideas off each other and constructively criticize each other. It’s a fast track to boosting those YouTube presentation skills.

15. Accept that you’re not perfect

Finally, my fifteenth tip to improve your YouTube presentations skills is to allow yourself to be imperfect. Allow yourself to make mistakes.

By accepting that you don’t have to be perfect, you will make fewer mistakes. It may sound strange, but the acceptance of imperfection lifts a huge burden from your shoulders. You can then get on with presenting the video without it turning into a terrifying experience.

If you insist on getting everything right, you will keep stopping and become frustrated by every tiny mistake. In the past I even found myself stopping mid-sentence because in my head I thought I was about to make a mistake.

Incidentally, what you think is a mistake will often go unnoticed by your audience. As creators, we care about every detail. But the audience is not as critical as us. Furthermore, they aren’t looking for your mistakes. What they really want is your content, that’s what matters to them.

So just do your best, ignore any stumbles, and keep going. Knowing you can carry on will keep you calm, relaxed, and more productive. Being natural and real will be easier for you and your viewers will appreciate it.

Live Your YouTube Video in PowerPoint Presentation: Smart Guide

zd-defaultauthor-w-peterson.jpg

Maybe not everyone loves YouTube, watches and uploads videos on YouTube, but in the world's most popular community, sometimes you would like to add a favorite video on YouTube to your next presentation. Many people have tried various methods to make YouTube video in their PowerPoint. Here I just review these great ideas, and express the clear fact in my words.

Play YouTube Flash Video Online in PowerPoint with Live Connection

If you're going to give a PowerPoint presentation under the environment with live Internet connection. You can directly embed your expected YouTube video into the slide, and play the video in your presentation from Internet like embedding YouTube video in a Web page. Just follow the simple steps below:

1. At first, you need to find the hidden Control Toolbox out in PowerPoint. In Normal View of PowerPoint 2003 and earlier versions, go to View -> Toolbars -> select "Control Toolbox"; for PowerPoint 2007, go to PowerPoint Options -> Popular -> tick "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon".

2. In the Control Toolbox, click the last icon "More Controls" which is displayed as hummer plus wrench. In the set of controls available on your computer, select "Shockwave Flash Object". Then use your mouse to draw and resize an area in the slide as you like to place your YouTube video.

3. Go to the YouTube video page you'd like to add, and check the URL in the address bar of your Web browser. You'll get an address like "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hChq5drjQl4". Change the phrase "watch?v=" to "v/", and now the address become "https://www.youtube.com/v/hChq5drjQl4". The address is what we need to link the video from YouTube.

4. Right click the area you drew which is displayed as a big cross, select Properties and go to Properties tab. Just copy and paste the YouTube video address like "https://www.youtube.com/v/hChq5drjQl4" in the field as value of attribute "Movie"; set the value of attribute "Playing" and "Loop" to False. Close the Properties tab when everything is done.

5. Now save the presentation, preview and enjoy the embedded live YouTube video in the slide with a Internet connection.

Get YouTube Flash Video Offline and Add To Presentations

When you don't like the live YouTube video way, which requires live and reliable Internet connection, you may download YouTube video to your hard drive, and insert the video into presentation offline. It's also very easy to make in a few minutes.

1. Go to the YouTube video page you'd like to add, and check the URL in the address bar of your Web browser. You'll get an address like "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hChq5drjQl4". Then try some online services like KeepVid or other offline tools to retrieve and download the original Flash video file from the address. Rename the downloaded YouTube Flash video file from "get_video" to "xxx.flv" as you like in FLV format.

2. Now you need to decide in which format of YouTube Flash video you'd like to add in PowerPoint presentation. If directly inserting the Flash video in FLV format, you have to ensure the FLV file could be properly played back at first. It's recommended to install VideoLAN VLC media player to play YouTube Flash video files in FLV format.

3. Find the hidden Control Toolbox out in PowerPoint and go to "More Controls" as the way in the first steps of online YouTube section above. Select "VideoLAN VLC ActiveX Plugin v1/v2" in the set of controls available, then draw and resize the displayed area with mouse in the slide as you like. Right click the area you drew and go to Properties tab, and complete the value of attribute "MRL" with the path of the YouTube Flash video file, like D:\Temp\2008\temp.flv, then close the tab. Now the YouTube Flash video in your hard drive is ready to play in the presentation.

--- Insert YouTube Video As Common Video

Besides, you may also try to convert your YouTube Flash video in FLV format to other common video format like AVI, MOV, etc with some online services such as vixy.net or other offline video conversion tools. Then you can directly insert these converted video in your hard drive via "Insert Movie from File" in PowerPoint.

--- Insert YouTube Video As SWF Flash Movie

Generally speaking, to avoid video codec problem with different computers, and ensure the properly video playback in PowerPoint, Flash video in FLV format and other video formats is not recommended to be inserted in PowerPoint. Based on the popularity of Adobe Flash player, which is widely installed on most computers in the world, Flash movie in SWF is highly compatible cross-platform and properly played back. You may try some video to Flash conversion tools, such as WebVideo Author , to convert FLV or other video formats to SWF format.

The Flash movie file in SWF format could be inserted into PowerPoint presentation as "Shockwave Flash Object" in Contorl Toolbox like the way in the first steps of online YouTube section above. And you can embed the SWF Flash file in your presentation through setting the attribute "EmbedMovie" to True in Properties tab.

By the way, some presentation authoring tools, such as PPT2Flash Professional ( http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash-pro.html ), Articulate Presenter , offer the shortcut to insert SWF Flash files quickly, and finally output the PowerPoint presentation with YouTube Flash video as Flash movie in SWF format. Flash-based presentation is kind of great solution to avoid compatibility issues from video codec, PowerPoint versions and operating systems, and easy to make Web compliance.

Maybe the total guide for YouTube video in PowerPoint is a little of complicated for everyone. Google's PowerPoint killer in Google Docs is highly expected to add the feature to add YouTube video in online presentation instantly, if Google really wants to be the killer. After all, YouTube is a great video treasure for everyone, we can make better use of it with our works and life.

How to add a youtube video to google slides.

If a picture speaks a thousand words, a video speaks a million words!

Quick Links

Embed a youtube video in a google slides presentation.

Want to spice up your Google Slides presentation by including a YouTube video in it? If so, use Slides' built-in feature to embed your YouTube videos with customizable options. We'll show you how to do just that.

When you embed a YouTube video, you can make the video play from the beginning or at a specified time . You also get to choose the time when your video ends. Additionally, if you don't want the video's sound, you can mute your video, as we'll explain below.

Related: How to Add Screen Recordings to Google Slides

To embed a YouTube video in Google Slides, you'll have to first get your video's URL (web link). You can get this URL by accessing your video's page on YouTube, then copying the link that appears in your web browser's address bar. The link should look something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEhZHMtCO5U

Once you have the video link ready, start the video embed process by first opening a web browser on your computer and launching Google Slides . On the site, select the presentation in which you want to add a video.

When your presentation opens, in the left sidebar, click the slide in which you want to embed the video. Then, from Google Slides' menu bar, select Insert > Video.

An "Insert Video" window will open. Here, at the top, click the "By URL" tab to embed a video using its web link. The other way to add a video is to use the "Search" tab where you can find and select your YouTube video.

We'll go with the "By URL" method in this guide.

Access the

In the "By URL" tab, click the "Paste YouTube URL Here" field and paste your YouTube video's link. You can use the Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) shortcut to paste the link.

As soon as you paste the link, you'll see your video's preview. Confirm this is the video you want to embed, then at the bottom of the window, click "Select."

Paste the YouTube video link and click

In your selected slide, you now have your YouTube video embedded. To change the video's size on the slide, drag the handlers available around the border of the video.

Drag the handlers around the video.

To customize how your video plays, use the "Format Options" sidebar on the right. In this sidebar, you'll mainly use the "Video Playback" section to control the playback of your embedded video.

The options you can customize in this section are:

  • Play (On Click) : To make your video play only when you click, select this option.
  • Play (Automatically) : To make your video play automatically when the slide comes, use this option.
  • Play (Manual) : If you'd only like the video to play when you manually play it, select this option.
  • Start At : If you want your video to play at a specified time , enter that time here. For example, enter "02:00" to make your video begin at 2 minutes.
  • End At : With this option, you can choose the timestamp where your video stops playing.
  • Mute Audio : If you don't want your video's sound in your presentation, enable this option.

Customize options in the

Feel free to change the options available in other sections, like "Size & Rotation," "Position," and "Drop Shadow."

Further customize options for the YouTube video.

Google Slides saves your changes automatically, so you don't have to do anything to ensure your video sticks in the presentation.

And that's how you make your presentations more engaging by including multimedia content in them. Enjoy!

How to Upload PowerPoint Presentations to YouTube

Table of contents.

presentation about youtube

PowerPoint presentations have been a popular tool for decades, and they still hold power in the business world. From a small work meeting to a crowded TED Talk, there are many professional discussions and lectures made easier by PowerPoints.

PowerPoint presentations can be recorded and shared at a later date. By uploading PowerPoint presentations to YouTube , you can increase your reach to co-workers, clients or friends. Doing so also allows your audience to view presentations on their own time without missing any important information. Microsoft even does what it can to simplify this process, but you still have to follow a few important steps.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Record your PowerPoint presentation

The first step is to record your PowerPoint presentation so that once it’s uploaded, viewers will be able to hear and see the entire presentation. You can use the Insert menu to add individual recordings to each slide. To do this, go to Click Insert > Media > Audio > Record Audio.

To record the entire slideshow, go to the Slide Show tab, and select Record Slide Show. Then, choose whether to record from the beginning or from the current slide. This option will include all narration, animations and slide transitions in the PowerPoint video.

Click Slide Show > Record Slide Show > Start Recording

Once your presentation is fully recorded, it’s ready to be converted into a video and uploaded to YouTube.

2. Turn your PowerPoint presentation into a video

To upload a PowerPoint presentation, you must convert it into a video. That includes all of the media – narration, animation, pointer movements and slide transitions – that go with it. So, once the presentation is up on YouTube, viewers will be able to watch it as if they were viewing it in real time.

There are two main ways to convert a PowerPoint presentation into a video: saving the file in a video format and saving the presentation as a PowerPoint Show. The advantage of saving the file as a PowerPoint Show is that your presentation will automatically jump to full-screen mode when someone opens it. This is ideal for business owners who are looking to send their video presentation to certain people instead of uploading it to YouTube.

Video presentations are saved as Windows Media Video (WMV) files, while PowerPoint Show presentations are saved in their own PowerPoint Show format (PPSX).

To save the presentation as a video, select File > Export > Create a Video > Select Video Quality > Use Recorded Timings and Narrations> Create Video.

To save the presentation as a PowerPoint Show, simply save the file under a new format. Click File > Save As > Browse > Save as Type > PowerPoint Show > Save.

3. Add audio to your PowerPoint presentation

You can add audio to a PowerPoint presentation on a PC or a Mac. Audio options include sound bites, music and narration. Adding sound helps further engage viewers, especially if you’re including commentary like you would if you were actually presenting the PowerPoint slideshow.

While in edit mode for your PowerPoint presentation, follow these steps to add audio to a PowerPoint presentation on a PC:

Click Insert > Audio. Then, select Audio on my PC from the available menu options. All available audio files on your computer will come up in the dialog box. Select the file you want to add to the presentation and click Insert at the bottom of the dialog box.

Choose Audio Tools Playback to edit the options for the presentation. From here, you can edit options such as Fade, Sequence and Loop Mode.

Here’s how to add audio to a PowerPoint presentation on a Mac:

Click Insert > Audio. Select either Audio Browser or Audio from File. The former allows you to add the audio from iTunes, while the latter browses your computer for the correct file. Choose the audio file. From the Audio Format tab, you can edit options such as Loop Mode, Play Across Slides and Hide During Slideshow.

After you edit a presentation with audio, you can preview the results using the playback option. Save all progress before exiting the program.

4. Upload your PowerPoint presentation to YouTube

After converting the presentation into a video format, sign in to your YouTube account, and click Upload at the top of the page. Select the presentation video you want to upload, and then adjust the video privacy settings.

Once the video is uploaded, click Publish to make it viewable to others. Be sure to use a catchy title that best represents the topic of your presentation so the right audience can find it.

5. Share your PowerPoint presentation with co-workers

Uploading presentations to YouTube is a great way for colleagues and customers to learn about a business on their own time. It also can be a great way to advertise changes or updates to a business. Make sure your connections know where to find your presentation and encourage them to share it with their own network. Share the link on your LinkedIn page and social platforms , email it to co-workers, include it in an email marketing newsletter . There are many ways to market your presentation and increase its reach, so you can build a loyal audience and continue to post engaging content.

Turning PowerPoint presentations into YouTube videos is an easy process that can be completed in a few straightforward steps.

Tips for creating a good video

When putting together your presentation, you don’t want to do the bare minimum and hope it impacts viewers. Here are some tips for creating an engaging PowerPoint presentation video your audience will love:

  • Use simple visuals: Presentations work best when the visuals are simple. Don’t clutter the screen; embrace white space for improved readability. Limit pages full of long lists of bullet points. Instead, highlight only the most important facts.
  • Choose a theme that fits the topic of your presentation: PowerPoint offers templates, but you may want to customize one to avoid coming across as cookie-cutter. Remember that the use of color is important to convey messages. Cool tones, such as blue and green, work best for background colors, while warm shades, such as red and orange, are best for text and charts.
  • Include video clips and audio in meaningful ways :A crashing symbol between slides is more likely to come across as cheesy than engaging. Use engaging yet professional videos and audio clips that add to the presentation, not distract the audience from the topic. This includes narration, an explainer video that is relevant to the subject or simple transitions from slide to slide.
  • Remember your audience: The top tip for creating a good video is to always keep your audience in mind . Imagine the video from viewers’ perspective and allow that to shape the features you add.
  • Don’t overcrowd your slides with text: Using too many words on each slide will be overwhelming to your audience following along. Instead, include one-sentence summaries or bullet points (but limit them), then add audio commentary to expand on them further.
  • Tell a story: While you want to approach the presentation in a professional manner, don’t turn it into a lecture. Use anecdotes and engaging stories to communicate your message. Rather than talking to your audience, have a discussion with them — even if they can’t interact in the moment. Approach the entire presentation like a conversation rather than a lecture.

Building Better Businesses

Insights on business strategy and culture, right to your inbox. Part of the business.com network.

I'm one of YouTube's top breakout creators. Here's how I schedule my day and score deals with brands like Disney and Netflix.

  • Corey Tonge, 32, is a YouTube creator with 12 million subscribers.
  • He built a following from his short-form comedy skits about video games.
  • Tonge quit his job to be a full-time creator and shares his daily routine and strategies for growing his business.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Corey Tonge, a 32-year-old content creator who makes comedy skit videos for YouTube and TikTok. The following has been edited for length and clarity.

In 2020, I landed a marketing job for a sports-supplement company where I worked closely with creators.

I saw what these creators were making, and I thought, "Holy shit! What am I doing?"

So, I started making some comedy skit videos after work. One day, I uploaded a skit about "Grand Theft Auto" that went viral on TikTok. I've always been a gamer, but I never thought I could build a following by making skits about video games.

I've since posted a video every single day for at least two and a half years.

I now have 1 million TikTok followers and 12 million YouTube subscribers. Last year, I was featured on YouTube's annual list of US " breakout creators ," which highlighted channels with the greatest growth in US-based subscribers in 2023.

I started on TikTok. But I transitioned to YouTube quickly because, for me and most creators, YouTube is the golden platform of sustainability. It's a platform you go to if you want to make your business sustainable.

I realized I could really do this when I landed my first deal with Disney. I had worked with Disney on content to promote the movie "Free Guy" and then got a paid partnership with them.

I never thought I'd be able to work with a brand like Disney. Before the marketing job at the supplement company, I was a personal trainer. I worked at the Apple Store before that.

So the moment I finished that deal, and I saw that paycheck from Disney, I was like, this is it.

At that time, I had around four to six months of savings. I was 30 years old, and I told my parents, "I am quitting my job, and I'm trying this out. I have six months to survive, but I will make it." That was around September 2021.

I fully went into creating videos. I had around 4,000 subscribers on YouTube and 1 million followers on TikTok.

In October of that year, YouTube started picking up for me so much, specifically the short-form videos. My channel gained thousands of subscribers a day that month. It motivated me.

Ever since, I've been working 12- to 16-hour days every day. I'm very much a one-man team, which gives me full control over my brand. I work with a thumbnail artist and a long-form video editor because I used to edit those videos myself and it would take me probably 30 or 40 hours per video. I still edit my short-form videos.

Sticking to a strict daily routine and planning my videos and brand partnerships in advance has been key to my success as a content creator.

How I run my business and stick to a strict daily routine

Every day, I wake up at 7 a.m. and go to bed at around 2 a.m. I have a to-do list that I write the day before, which has three sections: 7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m.

Those are my three shifts. I start working right after I get up at 7 a.m. until around 1 p.m. Then, I'll take a short break to eat.

This schedule has made me more efficient. Let's say in the morning, I go through all of my emails and admin stuff, like taking pictures of my receipts and accounting.

Then at 2 p.m., that's when I'll film. I film my comedy skits in the middle of the day when it's normally very sunny outside, so there's good lighting.

A 8 p.m., I'll stream or record myself playing games like Roblox.

On Sundays, I set aside time to write all of my video scripts for the week. Before I started batch writing my scripts, I'd feel like this autonomous robot creating videos every day. Now, at least, my short-form video ideas are done for the week, and I can concentrate on long-form.

How I make money from my influencer career

On TikTok, I make money mostly through brand deals. Some months, I might have a deal, and other months, I won't.

But with YouTube, once you start getting views, you can build a business from ad-revenue sharing .

Many people go on TikTok to become influencers and then go on YouTube to actually build businesses.

I also do some creator work on LinkedIn, like sharing the behind-the-scenes of my business, thoughts on the creator economy, and a whole bunch of different things.

I'm a little older than most YouTubers I know, so I'm used to using LinkedIn to network and find jobs. As a creator, I attribute so many of my connections and brand deals to cold messaging people on LinkedIn.

After I work with a brand, I'll add the people I worked with on LinkedIn. Aside from Disney, I've now worked with Amazon Prime, Netflix, and PlayStation on paid deals, and every single person that I've worked with or pretty much spoken to I've later added on LinkedIn. Once I've added them, they can easily reach me.

I try to plan out some of my brand partnerships for the year for my long-form videos by reaching out to the agencies that I've worked with to let them know what videos I have coming. Before I reach out to the agencies, I'll make a list of the video titles, and next to them, I'll write down a list of different brand partnerships that I think would go well with each video.

For a gaming-related video, I would write down a list of brands that sell gaming components like headsets or anything gaming accessory-related, like gaming chairs — anything I can easily mention and show in the video.

A lot of times, the brand or agency would get back to me and tell me they were planning a campaign in a few months, and we would compare calendars.

For cold reach out, give the marketer a little hint of a concept you are working on or something you're willing to do for them. Then, try to get them on a video call.

On video, you get to show your personality. You get to see them and how they're reacting to what you're saying. It's just more human. It's also much harder to say no face to face.

YouTube prankster invades stage during Oppenheimer’s best picture Bafta presentation

YouTuber who has a history of infiltrating awards ceremonies got on stage while the Oppenheimer team were receiving their award

A “social media prankster” invaded the stage during the best picture presentation at the Bafta film awards in London on Sunday.

Bafta said in a statement: “A social media prankster was removed by security last night after joining the winners of the final award on stage – we are taking this very seriously, and don’t wish to grant him any publicity by commenting further.”

In footage screened on BBC One, the man, wearing a dark suit, walked on to the stage as Oppenheimer producer Emma Thomas was making her acceptance speech, alongside the film’s director Christopher Nolan and lead actor Cillian Murphy. Having stood behind Thomas as she spoke, he left the stage along with the film-makers, and according to Bafta was subsequently detained by security.

The prankster was identified on social media as a YouTuber using the name Lizwani; the same user posted on Instagram that police had taken some of his footage away. Lizwani has a history of infiltrating awards ceremonies, including the Fifa Ballon d’Or and Brit awards in 2022.

While Bafta has been spared stage invasions in the past, the Oscars has had its share, notably the celebrated appearance of a streaker in 1974, while David Niven was about to introduce another presenter.

Bafta reports that the audience for the TV broadcast of the awards show was the highest since 2020, rising to 3.8 million at its peak.

Michael J. Fox got a standing ovation as he presented the award for best film at the  2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday, closing out the night on a high note.

Fox was on hand at London's Royal Festival Hall to give the honor to Oppenheimer , which won seven categories throughout the award show. Actors like Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie were seen rising up to clap for Fox as cheers rang out throughout the venue.

The actor, 62, used a wheelchair to enter the stage, before standing at the podium and launching into the intro for the category.

"There's a reason why they say movies are magic, because movies can change your day. They can change your outlook, and sometimes even your life," Fox said.

Fox attended the BAFTAs with his wife of 35 years , Tracy Pollan. While Fox wore all black for the occasion, Pollan opted for a white, short-sleeved dress with dramatic silver embellishments on the chest.

Late last year, Fox got candid about living with Parkinson's disease, which he was diagnosed with in 1991.

"Positivity is really sincere and I really feel it, and it's genuine, but it's hard fought, and it's hard won," Fox told  CBS Mornings about sometimes feeling depression and doubt when he thinks about his diagnosis. He said he has to stop and remind himself, "It's not that bad.' "

The 2024 BAFTA Awards were held in London and streamed on BritBox in the U.S. on a tape delay.

Black History Month 2024 Celebrates the Arts and Artists that Enrich Us

world globe

Each year, Black History Month brings another opportunity to discover contributions that enrich our nation. The 2024 theme, “African Americans and the Arts,” explores the creativity, resilience and innovation from a culture that has uplifted spirits and soothed souls in countless ways across centuries. FEMA joins the nation in this celebration of the arts and artists that demonstrate the influence and resilience of these creators.

The creative impulses of Black and African American artists cannot be contained. Their impact is rooted in ancient cultures that spread around the world through the African diaspora and was carried by people who often arrived on our shores involuntarily. Yet, a people so strong, resilient and hopeful will still rise in the face of adversity.

Black and African American cultural contributions are still being discovered and acknowledged.  We can find these contributions everywhere—from the visual and performing arts, literature, music and fashion to culinary creations and social movements.

It is impossible to not be moved by what this culture has created:

  • Extraordinary artists like Gordon Parks, whose cameras revealed an unseen America, the canvases of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the films of Melvin Van Peebles and Spike Lee.
  • The fluid movements of Judith Jamison and the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and contemporary ballerina Misty Copeland, who speak through the beauty of movement.
  • The prose and poetry of Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Phillis Wheatley, Alex Haley, Amanda Gorman and countless others who shared and illuminated the black experience and imagination.
  • The dynamic and rich achievements for courageous musicians like singers Marian Anderson, Nat King Cole and Ray Charles, and composers Quincy Jones, Barry White, James Cleveland and Jay-Z, that emerged from spirituals, gospel and the blues to influence and shape R&B, rock and roll and hip-hop.

Libraries could be filled with stories about those who have turned a little into a lot and “made a way out of no way.” Fortunately, many of these stories are being told through collections at places like the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the African American Art Museum of Dallas. We encourage all to seek out other celebrations and events that illuminate these achievements are taking place around the nation this month and all year long.

Additionally, please consider taking some time to explore online resources including this list of curated documentaries , the Smithsonian NMAAHC Black History Month site and other Smithsonian museums to learn about contemporary artists , along with the federal Black History Month portal .

The diversity of our communities enriches us in so many ways and strengthens the fabric of this nation. FEMA is committed to breaking down barriers and serving the needs of all people and supporting them before, during and after disasters.

To celebrate Black History Month, explore some FEMA resources that help to advance our efforts both to support the arts and work toward equity:

  • Fact Sheet on Art and Culture: Helping People Before, During, and After Disasters (fema.gov) This fact sheet explores how we can support art and culture institutions in shaping our community resilience efforts.
  • Office of Equal Rights | FEMA.gov This office at FEMA works toward creating a discrimination-free workplace and equal access to FEMA programs and services, for all disaster survivors.
  • Equity | FEMA.gov We are focused on reducing barriers and increasing opportunities so all people, including those from vulnerable and underserved communities, can get help when they need it.

Chiefs' Travis Kelce packs drama into Super Bowl, from blowup with coach to late heroics

Chiefs' travis kelce was clearly frustrated in the first half, at one point yelling at andy reid on the sideline. but his second half was a whole different story..

presentation about youtube

LAS VEGAS – If the main character of the NFL this year was Travis Kelce , then the script writers saved his most dramatic episode for the 2023 season finale.

Kelce’s Super Bowl story arc was dramatic enough to be an appropriate coda of the 21-game soap opera that was the Kansas City Chiefs ' season. He entered with high expectations. Faced adversity. There was redemption and triumph. It was punctuated by an Elvis Presley impersonation, fitting for the first Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

“Vivaaaaaaaaaaaa, Vivaaaaaaaa, Las Vegasssssssssssssss!!” a hoarse Kelce, Lombardi Trophy in hand, scream-sang into the microphone as CBS’ Jim Nantz interviewed him on stage.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 in overtime Sunday, 25-22, claiming their third title in five years and second in a row. As is the wont of a leading man, Kelce played a pivotal role. But his first half was meager – almost a blank space.

He had one catch for one yard. He finished with nine catches for 93 yards and led all receivers in both categories.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

“I didn’t care about my catches,” Kelce said of the game's first 30 minutes. “I just wanted the score to be different.”

Kansas City trailed 10-3 entering halftime. As for what changed for Kelce between the two halves, the tight end flexed his comedic chops, saying he stopped “playing like a jabroni, man.”

The drama came when Kelce bumped into Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on the sideline in the second quarter and nearly knocked over “Big Red." Teammates pulled him away. A couple of plays earlier, Kelce appeared frustrated that quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not throw him the ball when he was wide open (the pass was completed for a 52-yard gain to Mecole Hardman, regardless). By night’s end, they were hugging as confetti fell on their shoulders.

“I was just telling him how much I love him,” Kelce, not wanting to go there, said of the dust-up.

“He caught me off-balance. He cheap-shotted me,” said Reid, leaning on his dry humor to address the awkward situation. “But that’s all right; he did good.”

DYNASTY: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs leave no doubt: They're an all-time NFL dynasty

All Kelce wanted to get across to his coach, Reid said, was that if he was in the game, he’d score. And Kelce credited Reid for being the type of mentor who has taught him how to channel his emotions.

“He’s one of the best leaders of men I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Kelce, who added that Reid is “the greatest coach this game has ever seen … I owe my entire career to that guy.”

Reid actually asked Kelce – along with Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones – to address the Chiefs on Saturday night at the team’s final pre-Super Bowl meeting. According to those in the room, the message Kelce relayed was “powerful.”

“You just felt the energy, the passion,” Kansas City safety Justin Reid said. “He just talked about just us being us, man. It didn’t matter what anyone else said. It didn’t matter what the commentators or analysts or professionals or anyone else said, positive or negative. It’s about us. It’s not about making excuses; it’s about going out there and playing dominant. And you felt that.”

The message, Kelce said, was to show how much he cared about his teammates and coaches and that they had the “formula” to be champions.

“They’re leaders and they stick together,” offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said in the locker room about Andy Reid and Kelce. “I don’t think many people thought we were going to be standing here (as) Super Bowl champions on Christmas Day, and we are because we have good people that care.”

On the Chiefs’ first drive of the game, Kelce caught a short pass to the left that went for a yard. He did not record another catch until the 12:26 mark of the third quarter. That left him fired up at halftime, and Kelce once again brought the heat for his teammates.

“Just being accountable for the guys around me, being accountable for Coach Reid,” Kelce said.

Mahomes, who threw an interception on the third play of the second half, looked Kelce’s way to open the Chiefs’ next drive for an 11-yard gain.

Kelce was involved on each of the Chiefs’ final six drives. But the biggest play came with 16 seconds left in regulation and Kansas City trailing 16-13. Facing a third-and-7 from the San Francisco 33-yard line, Kelce cut across the middle, Mahomes hit him in stride, and Kelce nearly turned the corner for a game-winning touchdown but was pushed out of bounds at the Niners’ 11-yard line with 10 seconds left.

Kelce said he asked Reid to “put it on” his shoulders with the game in the balance.

“I live for moments like that and I love Big Red for giving me those opportunities,” the 34-year-old said. “It’s a beautiful thing, man, when everything comes together.”

In the Chiefs’ locker room, not long after he embraced Taylor Swift on the field, it was Kelce who gathered the majority of his teammates as music blared from speakers and cigar smoke wafted.

Kelce called out for tight ends coach Tom Melvin. A bottle of champagne was walked to the center of the room, where a circle formed around Kelce. Still feeling lyrical, Kelce began belting out Queen’s “We Are The Champions.” His teammates sang, too. The champagne sprayed toward the ceiling and down onto the Lombardi.

“Unreal,” said Chiefs passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier, “just unreal.”

The Chiefs, as defending champions, had targets on their backs all season. There was a brutal 2-4 stretch in November and December. Kelce missed the first game of the season against the Detroit Lions due to a knee injury he suffered at the end of training camp. Since September, his romance with Swift has sparked vitriol in some corners of society, mostly online.

OPINION: Kyle Shanahan relives his Super Bowl nightmare as 49ers collapse yet again

“To have the doubters, to have the road that we went through, man, it meant everything to even get to this point,” Kelce said. “But to find a way through adversity, yet again, for four quarters, five quarters, man, I couldn’t be more proud of the guys, and it’s such an honor to be on this team and in this organization.”

Kelce wasn’t talking about his off-field life when he referenced “doubters” and plowing through “adversity” Sunday. But he might as well have been.

While leaving his postgame news conference, Kelce was asked whether he will return for another season.

“Hell yeah,” he said, “I want that three-peat.”

In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal Magazine earlier this season, Kelce told the outlet he does think about retirement. Hard not to when a second act of entertaining and acting or anything, really, awaits. But as Kelce’s career winds down, his case in the "greatest tight end of all time" conversation will be heard.

Winning will always matter more to Kelce than individual statistics, but “I do love the legacy of wanting to be as great as I possibly can.”

Kelce knows he has played more football than he will play in the future.

“I just cherish every single moment,” he said.
