New Hire Orientation Ideas

1) employee welcome kit unboxing , “unwrap a warm welcome”.

Caroo Gifts

Gifting your new hires an employee welcome kit is a fun way to start the orientation experience and make a great first impression! Whether you’re onboarding in-person or doing a virtual orientation, unboxing employee welcome kits together is a great way to kick things off your new hire’s first week. Some items typically found in welcome kits include office supplies, company swag , and snacks. In addition to the kit, be sure you’re sending new employee welcome messages and providing periodic new employee announcements company-wide.

Why we love this new employee orientation idea: Unboxing a welcome gift helps immediately create an emotional connection between your company and your new employees. It’s also a great way to show your new hires that they’re officially part of the squad.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 20+ employees. While you can order or create welcome kits for a smaller group, we recommend ordering welcome kits in bulk for cost efficiencies and savings.

How to get started: Find the perfect employee welcome kit for your company! Caroo  offers an awesome selection of curated welcome gifts to get you started.

2) New Employee Orientation Company Trivia

“who doesn’t love a good trivia session”.

Company orientation material can be somewhat dry, so try gamifying the experience to create a more dynamic learning session! You can either send your new hires some company information before their orientation session or do a company overview during the orientation, immediately followed by the trivia activity. To provide a bit of extra employee motivation , throw in a gift card or a similar reward to the winning individual or team.

Why we love this new employee orientation idea: Rather than reading out facts and hoping your new hires retain the information, creating a trivia experience encourages your new hires to actively absorb this key information in a fun yet effective way. It also encourages team bonding and friendly competition.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. While you can do this in a larger setting, we recommend 5-20 as the sweet spot to encourage participation without getting too overwhelming.

How to get started: Decide what company material is most relevant for your new hires and naturally lends itself to a gamified trivia experience. Some potential trivia topics include company history, company values, senior leadership names, company policies, and awesome employee perks. You can also set up a weekly email trivia contest to get new hires excited about joining the team!

3) Orientation Lunch

“lunch with a side of getting to know each other”.

lunch-treat

This new hire orientation idea is a no-brainer! If you’re doing your orientation in person, carve out time for lunch and try pairing up individuals or creating small lunch pods to help your new hires get to know one another. If you’re hosting a remote orientation, send a digital gift card ahead of time so your new hires can order lunch. Bonus points: try providing a few introductory prompts to help generate conversation and keep it flowing.

Why we love this new employee orientation idea: Chances are your new hire isn’t going to know anyone else on Day 1, so hosting a team lunch is a guaranteed way to make sure your new hire isn’t eating alone in a corner on their very first day at a new job. It also helps create a casual setting where new introductions and connections can begin to form. You can also mix things up and host a new hire orientation happy hour event as well!

Best for staff orientation groups of: 1 – 5 employees. If you have a slightly larger group, that works as well, but it’s generally a good idea to keep lunches a bit smaller or break into small groups so people can truly interact with one another and begin feeling comfortable with their colleagues in this new setting.

How to get started: Plan ahead! Know the size of your orientation group and plan accordingly – Whether that’s booking a reservation, ordering lunch at the office, or  sending digital cards .

4) Meet The Team Scavenger Hunt

“get the team moving and the friendly competitive vibes flowing”.

Office Party Scavenger Hunt

After lunch, get your new hires moving with an interactive yet informational team scavenger hunt experience! You can do a simplified create-your-own version of this by identifying key landmarks in your office and leaving clues or trivia questions in those locations to find a reward at the end.

Or you can partner with an external company or application to create the scavenger hunt experience on your behalf. Either way, scavenger hunts are a unique way to introduce your new hires to their new work environment and encourage team bonding along the way.

Why we love this new employee orientation idea: We love that you can go as big or as small with this idea as your imagination and budget allow. We also love that scavenger hunts aren’t limited to a new hire activity but can be a great way for existing employees to bond as well!

Best for staff orientation groups of: 20+ employees. This activity works best if you can break your new hires into small teams of 4 or 5.

How to get started: Research companies or apps that offer a turnkey scavenger solution  to find the perfect fit for your new employee orientation program.

5) Good Cause ←→ Good Company

“team bonding while giving back to the community: it’s a win-win”.

community engagement is one way to keep employees happy

Wrap up the orientation day or begin orientation Day 2 with a group volunteering excursion. Find a cause that resonates with your overall company pillars or mission statements and organize a volunteer portion for your new hire orientation process. Your new hires will not only have the opportunity to bond with one another but also donate their time and effort to a great cause that is near and dear to your company.

Why we love this new employee orientation idea: Volunteering for a good cause not only creates a connection between your employees & your company but also between your employees and the community at large. It also shows that your company truly values and cares about the community in which it exists and encourages your employees to do the same.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. You can obviously go bigger or smaller with this, depending on the organization you partner with.

How to get started: Reach out to local charities or nonprofits that align with your company values & mission. Work with this charitable partner to create an ongoing volunteer opportunity for your new hires and existing employees alike.

New Hire Orientation Activities

1) jeopardy-style quiz game on company policy & procedure, “q: name a fun way to introduce company policies to your new employees a: what is a jeopardy game”.

A fun onboarding activity or game is a Jeopardy-style quiz session. Company policies and procedures may not be the most thrilling onboarding topic, but it is an important one. We recommend pulling questions from documents such as your work-from-home policy , employee handbook, and other training materials to create your Jeopardy question board.

Why we love this new employee orientation activity: It puts a fun spin on what can be a dry topic. We’ve all read and acknowledged the receipt of company policy & procedure documents when beginning a new job. This activity brings that document to life in a memorable way.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. While this activity could work in a smaller or larger setting, this mid-size range lends itself well to multiple Jeopardy rounds where you can swap employees in and out for each round.

How to get started: Use your employee handbook to create questions and answers for your Jeopardy game and assign point amounts based on the difficulty level of each question. You can also use this tool  to help send out and score your new employees’ quizzes.

2) Survey Says Game

“survey says… that this is a great orientation activity”.

Another awesome and interactive new hire orientation activity is a Survey Says game! Recreate this classic game show by creating questions around the company culture, values, mission statements, people, products, and more. You can either create your own format or partner with an external company to host the game on your behalf. Either way, this is a great activity for both virtual and in-person new employee orientations.

Why we love this new employee orientation activity: We love how a Survey Says format gamifies the orientation experience. It’s an entertaining way for your new hires to get to know your company and begin forming a connection with your company culture.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 20+ employees if you’re utilizing a third-party company to host or 5-20 employees if you’re taking the reins.

How to get started: Decide if you’ll be partnering with an external company to host the Survey Says game or if you’ll be creating one internally. This will most likely depend on budget and size or your orientation class. We recently played a game with Weve and had a ton of fun!

3) Speed Dating Q&A Session With HR Or Leadership Team

“set the timer and open the question flood gates”.

Speed Dating

Asking questions can be a bit intimidating, especially in a new work environment. Create a safe space for your new employees to ask questions by organizing “speed dating” Q&A sessions with HR and leadership executives. Be sure you lay out the format and ground rules for the Q&A sessions including how long each speaker will be fielding questions, how to submit a question, and if any follow-up will occur.

Why we love this new employee orientation activity: This orientation activity encourages your new hires to ask questions without fear and lets them know that your company values inquisitiveness and an eagerness to learn.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. You want the group to be large enough that questions are submitted yet small enough that people feel comfortable asking the questions.

How to get started: Create and confirm a rotating schedule of HR and department leaders to sit in the hot seat for these Q&A sessions.

4) Mission Statement Mad Libs

“a new spin on a classic game”.

Another fantastic new hire orientation activity is mission statement mad libs. For this orientation activity, you would take your company mission statement(s) and remove key nouns, verbs, and adjectives to create a mad lib. Without showing the team the mission statement, ask them for words to fill in the blanks you’ve made. You’ll likely end up with some pretty silly mission statements but will work your way towards one that fits with your company’s after a few rounds.

Why we love this new employee orientation activity: Everyone loves a funny mad lib. This is a fun and interactive way to get your new hires thinking about the company’s mission statements.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 1 – 5 employees. This game can also work with a larger group, but this activity lends itself really well to a small group activity.

How to get started: Decide which mission statements you’d like to use for the game and prep for what words you’ll be removing and which would be the best placements for the mad lib suggestions.

5) “Who Am I?”

““who am i”: leadership team edition”.

“Who Am I?” is a popular guessing game in which players ask yes or no questions to guess the name of someone or something. In this new hire orientation version, you’re trying to get your new hires to guess the name of specific leadership team members or important past company leadership names, i.e. who established the company. Questions should be based on the characteristics or facts about the person. This is a fun way for the new hires to get to know a bit more about the key leads at their company.

Why we love this new employee orientation activity: It can be overwhelming learning the leads and organizational structure at a new company. This activity helps your new hires do just that in a no-pressure environment.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. In a mid-size orientation setting like this, it ensures you have enough questions generated from the group but it’s not intimidating to guess either.

How to get started: Decide on what leaders and names will be included in this activity and create some Yes and No questions based on the names identified.

New Hire Orientation Icebreakers

 1) five-minute quick trivia , “and the trivia topic is… you”.

Five Minute Quick Trivia is an entertaining ice breaker where your new hires can answer some fun trivia questions about each other. A simple way of organizing this ice breaker activity is to have some pre-generated trivia prompts for your new hires to create answers for. For example, the trivia question prompt could be “What is my favorite dish to cook?” The new hire would then list out 4 responses with their actual answer included. Participants would then guess which of the 4 options is the correct answer.

Why we love this new employee orientation icebreaker: Trivia is a super fun and interactive way to break the ice and allow your new hires to get to know each other.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 1 – 5 employees. This icebreaker works well in larger groups too.

How to get started: Identify the trivia question prompts and how you’d like to organize the gameplay. You can also set up a free trial with Water Cooler Trivia to help manage your five-minute trivia contests!

2) Two Truths & a Lie

“can you identify the lie”.

For this icebreaker activity, every participant needs to come up with two truthful statements and one lie about themselves. One at a time, each new hire will share their statements and the group must identify which of those 3 statements is a lie. This is a super fun way to not only break the ice but get to know your colleagues in a fun and relaxed way.

Why we love this new employee orientation icebreaker: This game usually results in some pretty awesome discoveries about people. We love that it encourages your new hires to get out of their shell and share a little bit about themselves.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 1 – 5 employees. You can obviously do this icebreaker activity with a slightly larger group, but if you’re in a time crunch a smaller group setting lends itself perfectly to this activity.

How to get started: Give your new hires a few minutes to craft their 2 truths and a lie statements. It can be tough thinking of something on the spot, so giving your new hires some time to think about their statements helps put them at ease. You can also welcome an onboarding host from Weve to help moderate your game for your new hires.

3) Fun Fact Roundtable

“fun fact roundtables are… fun”.

Fun fact roundtable is a short and sweet way to break the ice at your new employee orientation. This activity is pretty self-explanatory, but essentially, you ask each new hire to share a fun fact about themselves. Encourage them to be silly about it and not take this activity too seriously. Maybe they have a fun hobby or a secret talent? This is their time to shine!

Why we love this new employee orientation icebreaker: We love that this icebreaker encourages participants to share a fun aspect of their lives or personality with the group. It gives some great insight into who the person is and what their interests are.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. This could also work for a smaller or larger group since it’s a pretty quick icebreaker exercise.

How to get started: Kick this icebreaker off by having the orientation leaders share their fun fact first. This is a great way to set a positive tone.

4) Get To Know You Questions

“what better way to get to know someone than to ask questions”.

Get-to-know-you

Get to Know You questions are a great way to (you guessed it…) get to know your colleagues! Some example questions include:

  • What was your first job?
  • What was your first concert?
  • What’s your favorite food?
  • What’s your favorite vacation destination?

Why we love this new employee orientation icebreaker: We love this orientation icebreaker because it encourages your new hires to get to know each other on a more personal level and helps people find common ground.

Best for staff orientation groups of: 5 – 20 employees. With a larger group, this can take up quite some time in the agenda, so plan accordingly.

How to get started: Create a set of 3-4 Get to Know You questions for each new hire to answer.

5) Would You Rather

“would you rather: ice breaker edition”.

We’re all familiar with the classic game Would You Rather. In this game, you ask players if they would rather pick X or pick Y. For this orientation icebreaker edition, create questions about the workplace or work-life. For example, would you rather bike to work or drive? Or, would you rather work in a bustling environment or a quiet work environment? Don’t be afraid to get silly with this activity as well and throw in some non-work-related questions as well!

Why we love this new employee orientation icebreaker: This is a unique way to learn more about your new hires because it provides a little bit more insight into their preferences and can get pretty humorous too, which adds a lightheartedness to your orientation session.

Best for staff orientation groups of:  5 – 20 employees. This can work in a smaller or larger group as well, but you want to ensure you have enough people playing to both generate and answer enough Would You Rather questions .

How to get started: Get the ball rolling by creating a list of Would You Rather questions to kick things off, then encourage your new hires to come up with some questions of their own for the group.

New Hire Orientation Tips

Craft an agenda for your orientation day..

🗓 Create an agenda and share it with your new hires prior to the session so they know what to expect.

Create time blocks.

⏱ You want to be sure you’re breaking the day up so people don’t lose focus. Switch between activities and speakers and be sure to carve out breaks.

Keep your new hires fueled throughout the day.

🥨 Whether hosting an in-person or virtual onboarding session , you want to keep your new hires energized. Have snacks handy and lunch provided.

Keep it positive.

😊 It’s only the first day. Don’t expect your new hires to already know everything about the company. It’s more than okay for them to learn along the way. In fact, that’s really the goal of a new hire orientation.

Determine your technical and resource needs.

👨🏽‍💻 Based on your agenda, identify what you may need from a technical or resourcing perspective. For example, do you have A/V or tech needs that IT may need to assist with? Are there activity printouts or slides that you need to prepare? It’s important to identify and pre-plan so that you’re fully prepped and your ordination day runs smoothly.

Continually improve your new hire orientation.

📈 You want to ensure each new hire orientation is even better than the last. Be sure you’re keeping your new hire activities and content up to date and continue to evolve the process as you learn more about what works well and what does not.

Survey your new hires.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Provide your new hires with a brief survey before joining to provide your HR team with information on their interests, dietary restrictions, and hobbies so you can utilize these facts during the orientation session. Additionally, after the orientation session, send a follow-up survey asking your new hires if there are any lingering onboarding questions or feedback on areas for improvement as it relates to the orientation experience.

New Hire Orientation Strategies for Before, During & After

new-hire-orientation-ideas

Let your new hire come in a little late

Starting a new job isn’t easy. Tell your new hire he can come in by 10 on his first day. This will give him leeway to sort out his commute and get over first-day jitters.

Set up a team lunch

Organizing a team lunch for a new hire to get to know his teammates will not only help him feel comfortable, but also help him get acquainted with the relationships and resources he needs to crush it during his first few weeks at work.

Decorate his/her desk with swag

There’s nothing like a balloon and some free company swag to make a new hire feel special on their first day. Before the new hire arrives, spruce up their desk with a curated welcome kit , welcome letters and all the practical information he/she needs in order for their first day to go smoothly. Newbies will match their co-workers, feel welcomed, and instantly look like “one of the gang.”

Swag.com makes the process of finding and customizing the perfect products a breeze. Use this site to get everything from branded backpacks to office supplies to fitness gear.

Pro-Tip: You can create a custom swag box that gets sent to new hires. This is a great way to kick-off a new employee’s experience at your company and show them that you care!

Ensure the new hire a 1-on-1 with his manager

new-hire-orientation-ideas-2

Assign an office buddy

When you’re new, it can be hard to socially branch out past your team. An easy way to fix this problem is to assign an office buddy on another team member that can serve as a social ambassador and a useful source of insight into how the rest of the company operates.

Get his or her name right before he walks through the door

Nobody feels comfortable when their name is mispronounced. Figure out how his name is pronounced, spelled, his preferred gender pronouns and if he likes to go by a nickname. Try to establish this before his first day and share it with others on his team.

Ask senior leadership for input

Senior leadership are responsible not only for generating revenue and building the business, but also for company culture and human capital. Before you develop your new hire orientation process, ask senior leadership for feedback on what information should be included and how new team members should be welcomed to the company.

new-hire-orientation-leadership

Give insight into company structure

Share the company’s bigger picture your new hire and detail how their work will help the company grow. Explain how the company is structured, each department’s function and who key company leaders are. This is a great time for the new hire to bring up what’s on his mind. Assure him that you’re happy to answer any question, big or small!

Bring the company to life

Your company is so much more than an org chart and a fancy logo. It’s a hive of innovation, driven by vibrant personalities and big ideas. Not showcasing these to new employees is a wasted opportunity.

Swap your text-heavy company history and floor plans for a video tour of where the company has come from and where it’s headed. Include brief features on key employees, especially your owner or CEO – even if they’re reluctant!

If your new hires are based in remote offices or work in a virtual team, share the tour with them through video alerts so that they aren’t neglected.

At SnapComms , they have personal bios written for every new staff member. New hires have their face and story displayed prominently to alleviate any awkward introductions, while they can read the bios of everyone else online to find ‘buddys’ with whom they can make a connection.

Share company history and core values

Give your new hire context into how the company came to be and what inspires the everyday decision making. By sharing the company’s history and the core values, this will give him social insight into the culture of the company and valuable guidance for how to navigate his role.

Introduce department heads

What better way to showcase company culture and structure than by introducing your new hire or hiring class to department heads. Giving the new hire the opportunity to speak with the leaders of the company not only gives him a chance to understand how the teams work together, but also how each department’s work ladders up to advance the company’s objective. If it’s unrealistic for department heads to meet with each new hire, have them talk to each hiring class. Be sure to include time for a Q&A so no questions go unanswered.

Clue your new hire into key unspoken rules

Every company has unspoken rules that determine the way the company operates and employees behave. Give your new hire a hand and share these up front during the onboarding process . They will be grateful and this small gesture will empower them to have a smooth transition into your company’s culture.

new-hire-orientation-idea-rules

Provide a glossary of company acronyms and buzzwords

Every company has their own professional world and company culture. Along with this comes a highly specific language consisting of specialized acronyms and words. Share these with your new hire so he doesn’t feel left out or confused. If you don’t already have a glossary on-hand, it may be time to create a working document that can be easily accessed and shared.

Set clear expectations

Write a list of the new hire’s responsibilities, who from the company he’ll be collaborating with for each project and upcoming deadlines he’ll be expected to meet. These sorts of details can fall through the cracks during the flurry of the first month on a job, or just seem obvious to the hiring manager and not to the new hire. Make it crystal clear, setting your new hire up for success. Present this list to your new hire and let him ask questions.

Give him a tour of the office

The very first office tour is an exciting activity for any hire since this will be their new working environment and where they’ll spend most of their time. Show him where different teams sit, where the bathrooms are and the kitchen with the best snacks. On an overwhelming first day, this information does wonders in easing the new hire’s feelings of disorientation.

new-hire-orientation-ideas-2

Offer tech help

Nothing sets back a new hire from getting started like a technology roadblock. Provide a cheat sheet with all the wifi, login and software info. If possible, have an IT person on hand to help your new hire set up his computer, troubleshoot tech problems and acquaint himself with the software your company uses.

Run through company benefits

Your new hire will likely have questions regarding your company’s corporate, medical and financial benefits. Take time to explain these in simple terms, and allow time for him to ask questions.

Introduce your new hire to his new friends

Let’s be real, starting a new job, and familiarizing yourself with a new team and company, can be scary and intimidating. One way to make the new kid on the block feel at home is to introduce him to his new office mates. So get out of your desk chair and onto the floor—walk the new hire around the office, introducing him to his team and the other people in the company he’ll be working with closely. This group should also include the go-to IT person, the office manager, the receptionist if they haven’t properly met, and his HR representative.

new-hire-orientation-ideas-meeting-the-team

In addition to physically walking the new hire around the office, have his manager send a company-wide email with a short intro about the new hire (potentially written by the new hire himself) on his professional background, who he is and where he comes from. This small gesture, coming from a manager, will make the new hire feel welcome and like his manager is proud to have him on the team , which is always a great feeling.

Ask his birthday

Companies celebrate employee birthdays in different ways. Whether they do this by giving the employee the day of their birthday off or by sharing some cake in the afternoon, be sure to ask whether he’s comfortable sharing this information with the team and celebrating as a group .

Celebrate with a happy hour!

Most people wouldn’t object to chatting with their new teammates over a beer and some bar snacks. This is also a great way for the new hire to familiarize himself with the team’s culture and learn about the work he’ll be doing in a low-pressure environment.

new-hire-roadmap

Give your new hire a roadmap for the next month

This should include a calendar of upcoming company events, along with key things he should learn in his first month to enhance his productivity and success.

Reinforce Orientation Ideas

Everyone know that the first days of a new job can be a whirlwind. To make sure all this information and introduction is solidified, you can easily roll out a comprehensive program that includes various elements of these orientation ideas with OrgLynx . OrgLynx’s mobile app and software allow new hires to learn more about your organization, connect with colleagues, quiz them on the essentials and more to create an overall culture and organization introduction.

New hires will be prompted to complete different types of challenges and tasks like snapping photos, taking videos, answering questions, providing feedback, scanning QR codes and more. The team at OrgLynx will help you get your program setup for you so implementation is a breeze, and the program can run completely automatically to give a personalized feel to each new hire you bring on. Program duration is flexible but best results see a program targeting the new hire’s first 90 days. OrgLynx performs equally well with a remote onboarding program . Best for companies over 100 employees.

Ask for feedback

After your orientation, ask your new hire for feedback. Does he have any remaining questions? Was there any information not included that he’d hoped to receive as a new employee? Did he feel the information he received was useful? Some companies like to provide a new hire orientation feedback survey, others have the HR professional leading the orientation ask casually. It’s up to you, but don’t skip the step. It’s crucial to improving the process over time.

After all is said and done, new hire orientations take a lot of work. But it pays off–with increased employee retention, loyalty and productivity , new hire orientations increase the success of the company overall.

Don’t overlook the importance of a thorough new hire orientation. A Bersin by Deloitte study calculates that “4 percent of employees leave after a disastrous first day and 22 percent of staff turnover happens in the first 45 days of employment.” First impressions matter, for the employee as much as for the employer .

Research also shows that new hire orientations play a critical role in helping new employees understand their responsibilities, grasp the role they play in their company’s broader mission and integrate into company culture . Capitalize on this opportunity to position your incoming employees for long-term success at your organization.

You have the power to help new hires start the job on the right foot and increase employee retention . Your effort here will certainly pay off.

It's a part of the employee onboarding process that introduces them to the company's culture, policies, and procedures. Engaging presentations, along with team member introductions and insights into the organization's departments, create a positive atmosphere that could have been better.

Welcome Aboard Orientation Presentation for New Employees

Tips To Create a Successful New Employee Orientation

What is new employee orientation, what to include in your employee orientation , fun new employee orientation ideas.

The process of hiring new staff can be time-consuming and arduous. Recruiting the right talent for the job takes dedication to the hiring process, but what about after they’re hired? Once you’ve identified a candidate who is a great fit for your organization, you’ll have to onboard them in a way that is engaging, and exciting for them. While simultaneously delivering clear messaging about the policies and procedures at your company.

It’s a delicate balance to both keep your new hires excited and inform them of administrative policies that they’ll need to know. There’s nothing quite like killing a new hire’s excitement for their new role by offering a dull and overwhelming first few days through boring employee orientation processes and long webinars that put them to sleep.

Luckily, there are ways in which you can engage with your new staff and keep their enthusiasm high. In this guide, we’ll discuss what exactly an employee orientation is and how it differs from — or complements — the onboarding process . We’ll discuss best practices and fun ideas for employee orientations that are innovative and interactive. And finally, we’ll give you the tools you need to succeed in developing your own new employee orientation.

Team member welcomes new employee with a smile

Many people think that employee orientation is the onboarding process. But this isn’t true, your employee orientation is only a small part of the entire onboarding process. The onboarding process consists of filling out forms, introducing staff to each other, working with HR to get benefits in order, and a lot of other tasks depending on the type of organization you operate.

Your new employee orientation is typically a presentation or interactive course for your new hires to get acquainted with the company culture as well as the policies and procedures you have in place.

Employee orientation often gives employees a birds-eye view of the company. Sometimes it may include an introduction from the CEO or other times, it’ll be a meet and greet for all of the new staff, either way, your employee orientation is a great opportunity to set the tone of your work environment.

So what needs to be included? We’ve created a new employee orientation checklist to help you prepare exceptional orientations for your staff. We encourage you to infuse your own brand and culture into this checklist, what are some ways in which you can add your unique culture to the items on the list?

1. Your Brand, Mission, Vision, and Values

It’s best practice to start your employee orientation with your company’s mission, vision, and values. This sets the tone for the rest of the presentation. You can include your company’s history, information about the founder or current leadership, as well as discuss the vision you’d like to see the company achieve.

Your values are another big selling point for new hires. It’s likely that they’ve already researched your company and found some alignment with your values to their own. This is a good reminder to talk about the values you have as an organization and provide examples of how you infuse them into your operations, marketing, and programs.

Some examples of how you implement your values could be showcasing a current employee and their work with a client and customer. Detail how they exemplified the company’s values and discuss how it develops your positive and collaborative company culture.

2. Introduction to Your Operations and Organizational Chart

After your mission statement and discussion on vision and values, it’s suggested to have a high-level overview of your current organizational chart. If your new employee orientation consists of interdepartmental new hires, then this can be helpful to see how they relate and connect to their colleagues.

Bring in other team members outside of HR to discuss their roles and responsibilities within the organization. If you have a marketing team that works across departments, have them introduce themselves and describe how they support other department goals.

Map out ways in which your employees work together and who they should report to if they have specific inquiries or questions that need to be answered.

3. Administrative Policies & Procedures

Probably the least fun part of the whole presentation, but a necessary one. Every company has its own unique policies and procedures. If your team needs to learn how to report their time to management, this is a perfect opportunity to discuss that process.

You’ll also need to go over certain policies around reporting employee misconduct and all the not-so-fun things to discuss during the onboarding process. Everyone knows this is necessary and expects it to be included in the orientation, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring.

Go over high-level details in the employee handbook, instead of going through the entire handbook, just point your new hires in the direction of where they can find it. Using tools like the Bites app can actually make employee handbook reviewal less overwhelming, by offering bite-size chunks of information at their own pace.

4. Benefits, Paid Time Off, Etc.

Your employee orientation program also typically covers the benefits package you offer. Many new hires will understand the high-level benefits packages that are available to them, but this can be a good opportunity to dive deeper into certain policies and benefits they may not have asked about in the interview process.

Here are some benefits that you may include in your employee orientation process:

  • Health, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Paid Time Off and Holiday Pay
  • Sick Leave and Disability
  • Parental Leave Benefits and Policies
  • Educational benefits and programs your employees can enroll in.
  • Childcare subsidies, if applicable
  • Health and wellness opportunities for staff
  • Remote work policies and procedures
  • Additional benefits could include sabbaticals, reimbursements, and travel.

5. Department Specific Information

If you’re a larger company and deliver employee orientation by department, then you can add more specific information about the department they’re working within. Conversely, if you’re a midsize company, you may want to introduce your new team to all the departments within the company.

Introduce them to department heads and give the presenter an opportunity to talk more about their department within the company and how their work informs the success of the department.

Want to learn more? Let’s chat!

Who said employee orientation had to be a drag? Instead, it can be a great time to connect and learn more about your new team members. While nearly every employee orientation will have to include some form of administrative information, you can still make the orientation an exciting part of your overall onboarding process.

It’s proven that even one new hire can offset the company culture, so starting out on the right foot is crucial in both the new hire’s retention and the preservation of your organizational culture.

1. Welcome Them With A Gift

Instead of crowding them around in a boring beige office, gather them in a cool spot. If your office doesn’t offer this, you can have an offsite meeting at a coworking space or other beautiful event space. If you’re looking to do this remote, then send your employees a nice welcome gift.

Welcome New employees with a Gift

Some ideas for welcome gifts could include:

  • A swag bag of your branded items like coffee mugs, YETI tumblers, or laptop bags.
  • A gift card to a local coffee shop — or Starbucks
  • A handwritten note welcoming them to the team
  • Exclusive deals for your team members to local shops and restaurants

2. Use an App Like Bites to Deliver Your Orientation

You don’t have to use a regular, boring presentation for your orientation program. Instead, invest in technology that can help you grow as a company and as an employer. Tools like Bites, allow you to connect with employees in real-time as well as offer them snackable content that is easily digestible and able to be consumed at their own pace.

Think outside of the typical webinar or Powerpoint presentation and implement new technologies that connect with your employees. With the tool, you can send quick updates to employees, as well as invite them to watch detailed, prepared training and onboarding videos like your employee orientation presentation.

3. Invite them to a New Hire Summit or Conference

Another way to create enthusiasm and excitement around the onboarding process is to create a day (or week) around your newly hired talent. If you’re a larger company, invest in a new hire conference or summit. If you have employees around the country, invite them in to join in on a few days of presentations and activities.

Adopting a new hire summit is a great tool to use is you have a lot of employees scattered through the country or globe. This can give them an opportunity to meet executive leadership, connect with other new hires, and learn more about the company in a greater, more engaging detail.

4. Have an (optional) New Hire Game or Activity Planned

Not every employee is going to jump at the opportunity to join in on an icebreaker or want to play a game of Softball. And that’s okay, have some optional games or activities for new hires to do without calling too much attention to them. Have them perform a scavenger hunt through their onboarding docs, or invite them out to a baseball game after their first week on the job.

Onboarding employee with fun activities

There are a lot of different ways you can gamify the new hire and orientation process. Consider having quizzes (and rewards) at the end of your presentations. Make the rewards exciting, like a gift card or valuable piece of swag. A free pen isn’t an exciting reward.

5. Have an Offsite Lunch or Happy Hour

It’s best practice for an employee’s boss to take them out to lunch on the first day on the job. But this is a bit traditional. Invite them to a happy hour with other members of the team, so they can get a sense of how people interact and work together. It will feel much more comfortable with other employees at varying levels as opposed to a one-on-one with your boss.

Another important thing is to invite the new hire before the day-of. This way they can prepare for their new day. Some people are on-the-fly planners, but not everyone. If your employees have families and things to attend to outside of work, don’t assume they can drop everything and attend a happy hour. Plus, you run the risk of them feeling obligated, which can be cause for an unnecessary start.

6. Have Them Take a Personality Test

Personality tests are a great way for employers to understand how their employees work as an individual and as a team. Personality assessments are a great tool for employers, but they also are a great value-add for the employee.

Using certain personality assessments like the 16 Personality Types and StrengthsFinders can give individuals insight into how they perform best. This allows them to hone in their certain strengths and understand how others work as well.

There’s no perfect new hire orientation template. Each will be unique to the organization that is conducting it. But there are best practices and creative ways to engage with your new employees. The orientation process is the first step in setting a strong foundation with your employees.

Your employee orientation process will differ from another’s, and that’s perfectly normal — and expected. But implementing some of the best practices discussed, as well as incorporating fun and innovative ideas is a surefire way to retain top talent and keep employees excited to work for you. Whether you’re welcoming them with a gift, or throwing a fun, interactive scavenger hunt, connecting with your employees from day one is a definite way to build a positive company culture.

➕ What to include in a new hire presentation?

What should be in your onboarding presentation?

1. Icebreaker or fun welcoming element

An icebreaker is a perfect way to relieve the tension and anxiety in a presentation. It could be anything, from an interesting anecdote to a fun fact. The recruit will feel more at ease and interact with their colleagues more freely.

Icebreakers are, furthermore, clever ways of identifying a company’s work culture. Recruits get to see how well employees relate with each other. In addition, icebreakers are a great way to relax and let loose. It’s a break for the employees outside of their normal duties.

A game of 2 Truths and A Lie is perfect for such situations. Other onboarding icebreakers you can try out are:

  • Would You Rather;
  • Scavenger hunts;
  • 10 Things We Have In Common.

The great thing about onboarding presentations is you can spice them up. The more interactive they are, the better impression you leave on the new employee.

2. Key stats about the company

Why you should add key statistics in your new hire welcome presentation

Create excitement by providing key statistics about the company’s growth and performance . Remember, the goal is to create a lasting first impression so use your onboarding presentation to seal the deal.

Statistics is a powerful communication tool because they quantify the information you’re putting across. They give credibility to your points―think of them as proof of how great your company is.

You give the recruit the chance to see how efficient your employees are and how well the company runs. Here are some important stats you should include in your onboarding presentation:

  • Employee retention
  • Job satisfaction
  • Employee well-being ― it illustrates the balance between work and life
  • Workplace diversity
  • Growth rate
  • Customer satisfaction, and
  • Gender balance.
We recommend using visual aids such as infographics when incorporating statistics into your presentation.

Infographics are easier to recall, increasing knowledge retention rates. Another benefit is they simplify complex ideas like statistics into digestible chunks. Besides, they’re visually appealing and spark the audience’s curiosity.

3. History of the company ‍

You want to be as brief as possible when presenting the company’s history. Here are a few points to keep in mind when presenting this part:

  • Briefly discuss what your company does and what services they give their clients. For example, if you’re an ecommerce email marketing agency , you might begin with ”X Email Marketing Agency specializes in email strategy and audit, email automations and campaign management for ecommerce."
  • Make sure you illustrate your company’s ability to meet its consumer’s needs.
  • Add character to your company by giving a brief biography of the founders.
  • State and explain the core values of your organization.
  • Include significant events and milestones.
  • Use anecdotes. What better way to talk about your company’s history than by telling a short story?
  • Make it informative by giving facts and statistics about your growth.
  • Share information about past projects and clients. It’ll make the recruit even more motivated to be a part of your team.
  • A few testimonials or reviews won’t hurt. In fact, they’re an asset to your company’s credibility and overall image.

4. Mission statement

Your company’s mission statement is a summary of your vision. It illustrates the primary goal and values of your corporation. A mission statement also gives the company and the employees a sense of purpose. Lastly, it creates a vision for its future―almost like a sneak peek into the coming years.

5. Company values

Company values paint an accurate description of how we treat each other at the workplace. More importantly, they determine what kind of culture will exist in a company. They promote teamwork and set a precedent for the recruit to relate to their colleagues.

Furthermore, they give the newbie insight into the general atmosphere of their new work environment.

Examples of company values

6. Organization structure

An organizational structure highlights the company’s hierarchy and division of labor. Think of it as a detailed chain of command. It gives a clear representation of each individual’s role.  A clear organizational structure ensures coordination, making attaining goals easier.

It also improves teamwork and enhances collaboration in the workplace. A workplace that clearly defines employee roles will operate more efficiently than one that doesn’t. Examples include:

  • Hierarchical
  • Divisional, and
  • Team-oriented.

7. The teams

Onboarding presentations are the best time to introduce your new employee’s department. It paints a clear picture of who they’ll be working with and at what capacity.

💡 Tip: Get the team members to record short introductory videos that you can include in your slideshows. That way, you’ve already broken the ice and acquainted the recruit with their colleagues way before they officially meet.

Here’s a great example of an employee introduction video from Wistia , a video marketing software company:

8. Company roadmap

A company roadmap is like a show and tell. It outlines the framework for its success and details all the important steps necessary to actualize your vision. An effective roadmap should have the following features:

  • Your mission statement
  • Primary goals
  • Objectives e.g. improve performance by 50%
  • The various strategies to achieve the goals and objectives
  • A SWOT analysis . It’s a vital component of any business roadmap.  Strength - showcases the company’s best feature and what sets it apart from competitors. Weakness - highlights areas you’re struggling with and need to improve, e.g. marketing and high employee turnover rates. Opportunities - these are external factors that give you an upper hand over competitors. Threats - these are obstacles that expose your weaknesses and can cause harm.

9. Employee scorecard

An employee scorecard complements the organizational structure by giving your workers a framework to implement strategies. It aligns their efforts with a shared goal and molds employees into one efficient unit.

An employee scorecard should contain:

  • The employee’s name
  • Their role and responsibilities
  • Assigned duties
  • Specific targets
  • Key metrics - allow you to track growth and productivity
  • Strategic map - a summary of your objectives and primary goal.

10. Company policies

Policies enforce the organization’s structure and streamline its work processes. They make the work environment safer by minimizing hazards and potential accidents. Company policies are dynamic and change according to the industry, so businesses are legally required to update them.

These are guidelines that control various aspects such as:

  • Remote work
  • Paid Time Off.

11. Your first week and what to expect next

This section details the series of events that will consist of the first week. Naturally, the recruits will feel nervous or unprepared. However, giving them a preview can help ease them into the experience.

You don’t want to overwhelm them since they’re still acclimatizing to the new environment. So it’s best to keep their tasks short and structured. Give them a timetable or schedule of tasks to complete for the first week.

Remember to include frequent short breaks to give them time to decompress. Start small and gradually increase the intensity until they’re comfortable working with minimal supervision. A good idea would be to pair the recruit with an onboarding buddy who they can consult.

✨ Tips on creating the perfect employee onboarding presentation

Onboarding presentation tips: From mind map over goal setting on to visuals

1. Have a mind map

Create a visual plan of the ideas you intend to put across during your presentation. A mind map helps you arrange the information in chronological order. Get a pen and paper and draw a rough outline of your presentations.

Outline the key points and structure your argument around them. Alternatively, you can create a flowchart on your laptop or create flashcards to help steer your presentation.

2. Set a primary goal

Your presentation should answer these very crucial questions: Who and Why ? They make up the meat of your whole presentation. They’re the hook, line, and sinker to your argument. Answering these questions captures your recruit’s attention and appeases their curiosity.

To whom are you presenting this information, and why is it so important?

3. Study your audience beforehand

Find out as much information about the recruit as you can. So, important information such as their previous role and the challenges they’ve encountered on the job can help ease any pre-boarding jitters.

You want to give your new employee the best experience during the onboarding process. Getting a better understanding of their pain points will help you customize your presentation to fit their needs.

4. Use visuals to break the monotony of text

Presentations can get quite monotonous, especially if it’s all blocks of text without interruption. Spice up your presentation by including visuals such as:

  • Charts, and
  • Infographics.

Images are an interactive way to capture your audience’s attention. Curate them with a photo editor (for example, background removal ) to be able to provide visual representations that break down information into simpler concepts, making them easier to remember.

But beware: Using too many images can be a distraction, so don’t overdo it .

5. Know your material by heart

A good speaker masters their material. Knowing your points conveys the seriousness of the information, making it the ultimate display of credibility. Nobody wants to attend a presentation where the speaker can barely make sense of their presentation.

Imagine if you were a new employee in such a situation. Would you believe a word they say?

6. Pick a suitable design for the slides

The goal is to select a layout representing your company’s culture while remaining interactive. A good idea would be to look at your company’s brand colors and incorporate them into the design.

Alternatively, you can borrow a leaf from the company’s work culture and use the dress code as an inspiration. Most businesses prefer formal wear, so neutral colors such as white, blue, and brown would work best.

Lastly, make sure you use a font that’s readable from a distance, especially if you plan on using a projector or handing out brochures.

7. Incorporate a Q&A session

Set aside a few minutes to give the audience room to ask questions. Feedback is an integral part of communication, moreso during an onboarding presentation. Think of the Q&A session as closer to your argument. Not only does it allow the recruits to ask any burning questions, but it also clears up any doubts.

🔖 Onboarding presentation template (PowerPoint)

The quickest way to get started is by using our welcome presentation template .

On 20 slides, it contains all the topics you should cover in your first presentation to new hires.

It includes slides like:

  • Our company: History
  • Our company: Values
  • Your scorecard
  • ...and many more

It's 100% customizable, so you can (and should) adapt it to your company's colors, brand, and content.

➡️ You’ve successfully held your onboarding presentation. What’s next?

Finishing the presentation is completing one phase of the onboarding process ―it’s much longer and more complex. Training comes immediately after the presentation. It equips them with the required skills to perform their function and increases employee engagement.

Ideally, onboarding features five phases:

  • ‍ Preboarding - The recruit signs their contract and all the required documents. They’ve just accepted the job offer, so they’re still new to your company. ‍
  • Orientation - Here, the recruit meets HR and gets a formal introduction to the organization and colleagues. It’s where the onboarding presentation happens. ‍
  • Training - HR trains the new employee on their new role. They typically assign a supervisor or senior colleague to show them the ropes. ‍
  • Transitioning - The recruit is growing more used to the routine and is almost fully integreted into the workplace. ‍
  • Ongoing development - The employee has officially settled into their new role and can begin making long-term decisions.

30 Creative Employee Onboarding Ideas Your New Hires Will Love

30 creative employee onboarding ideas

In this article, we’ve gathered 30 fun and engaging employee onboarding ideas we hope you can use to make the process fun or add pizzazz to your companies employee onboarding and employee orientation.

1. Shadowing. Have your new hires spend their day with a current employee who knows the rounds, can show them what a typical day is like, and introduce them to the rest of their colleagues.

2. Take a picture! If you work at a large company, you’ve probably had new hires go through weeks of having to remember names. Taking a picture and writing colleagues’ names on them would really cut down on the awkwardness.

3. Give them a treat. This could be a company pen, keychain, or mug. They’ll love it!

4. Create checklists . Employee Onboarding requires people to sign tons of paperwork. It’s a necessary evil you can simply by providing a checklist or even using software to help them sign things faster.

5. Provide virtual tours. Many offices are remote, but they may still require in-person presence at some point. Create 360° videos of important offices so they won’t feel lost.

6. Volunteer opportunities. If you work at a large company it can be hard for new hires to find their place. Volunteering can break the ice and allow them to contribute to a good cause.

7. Create a social media contest! Capitalize on your new hires’ excitement and encourage them to send several photos you can use for your company or brands’ social media page so your audiences can get to know them better.

8. Entry interviews. Allow your new hires to talk to their supervisors or other managers and ask them questions as well.

9. Scavenger hunt. Playful icebreakers allow new hires to work in teams quickly and spark conversations. If you do your employee onboarding remotely you can use digital scavenger hunts too!

10. Have them wear a specific colour. This can work well even online. Ask all managers and supervisors to avoid the colour red, for example, but ask new hires to wear an item in that colour. When they arrive, others will know they are new and find ways to make them feel welcome.

11. Send a new employee welcome kit ! Even a box of cookies or greeting card with a warm message will win new hires over.

12. Lunch roulette. Assign new hires a new colleague to eat lunch with. This can be a fellow new hire or current employee.

13. Let them know who their boss is! Ask the new hires’ manager to send an email and photo of themselves so your new employee will make sure they know who they will report to!

14. Invite them to outings. Maybe your company has a weekly lunch or happy hour, make sure your new hire receives an invitation!

15. Send a schedule or itinerary. This way they’ll know what to expect on day one.

16. Make the first day into a party! Decorate with balloons, bring in a few flowers, or have a fun Zoom background if you onboard remotely. You can still be fun and work appropriate.

17. Teach them something new during on-boarding and foster a sense of continuous improvement.

18. Create quizzes. This will turn learning company policies into a game and allow new hires to have some fun.

19. Create a preboarding kit so new hires will have the opportunity to get familiar with their new jobs.

20. Let them show up later on week 1 to ease into the transition of a new job.

21. Send social media updates. Show them pictures of their new computer set-up or office to build enthusiasm.

22. Create a digital welcome video. Current employees can say hello, and your new hire will already recognize them on their first day on the office or on Zoom.

23. Provide lunch! If you have a remote setup, send them a gift-card for a local restaurant or order something for them on the first day.

24. Ask about their preferences if your company has the budget to accommodate their tech or office chair preferences.

25. Create an amazing handbook that they’ll want to look at. We have a ton of inspiration on employee handbooks here.

26. Ask for their suggestions at the end of employee onboarding or employee introduction so you can always keep improving.

27. Have their business cards ready so they can start networking from day one.

28. Have a “graduation” or end of onboarding party.

29. Encourage coffee chats for the first 30 days so new hires can get to know their more senior colleagues.

This HR Orientation Presentation Template Will Help Onboard New Hires

It’s time someone finally said it: HR is tough. We may not be the ones building the product or out there closing deals, but we are the holders of company culture, and that's just scratching the surface.  Human Resource Business Partners (HRBPs) are integral to the process of building sound internal infrastructure, achieving a balance between regulatory compliance and employee experience.

The best human resource professionals are successful by creating a shared understanding of the key cultural and procedural pieces their company has put into place. But this is easier said than done. So, what’s the secret? Communication . Constant, tailored, personal communication .

One of the first opportunities that HR professionals have to communicate is during New Hire Onboarding. It's every company's first impression with their new employee, and an opportunity to leave a lasting, positive impression (or fall on their face). The onboarding process begins with a first-day new employee orientation, which is considered a key facet of new hire onboarding.

Many new hires will be overwhelmed on their first day—especially if they’re thrown into an intense orientation program covering long lists of tasks, company policies, introductions to new co-workers, compliance items, and overviews about technical aspects of employment. It’s likely that they won’t understand or remember most of the information from orientation, especially if there isn’t follow up.

This is why first-day orientation, while important, isn’t onboarding. Onboarding is actually a larger process that ramps up before the start date and continues through a good part of the first year, making the addition of new employees seamless, efficient and effective. Which is why our New Hire Onboarding presentation covers more than just Day One. It also offers a 1-week, 1-month and 6-month roadmap both for the new hire and their team. As an added bonus, this will force function from the new hire 's manager and colleagues to prepare for a new team member and have clear OKRs outlined before their start—aka "setting them up for success." You can even send it a few days in advance, so they can be mentally prepared for their first day on the job. Customize this free New Hire Onboarding template here .

Start before the start

Think back to when you were hired at your current job. When did you sign your offer letter? When did you start? Was there radio silence between those dates? Was there an email from HR? What did this email say? Chances are you got a reminder that you need to bring valid identification as well as signed copies of employment documentation such as an offer letter, employee handbook acknowledgment, I9, and a W4.

Onboarding documents, such as a Welcome Packet , are sent as part of the series of communication before your employee’s start date. These documents provide an overview and help set expectations. They also give your new hire ample time to digest the information and arrive on their first day prepared to learn more.

Putting together a standardized new hire onboarding communication campaign takes the work and the effort out of creating this experience for each new hire. This will also help you build a consistently reinforced employer brand with each new employee.

While some items in the onboarding process can be conveyed via bullet points in an email (direct deposit setup, background check, dress code, etc) others need to be more thoroughly and clearly communicated. The Welcome Packet we've created in Beautiful.ai does just that.

new employee presentation ideas

Be transparent and give a heads up

We like the Golden Rule when it comes to a new employee orientation checklist: If you started a new job, would you want the company to send you a generic welcome email before your first day, or more personalized details and specific information to get you super stoked to start your new gig?

Instead of making your new employee wish they’d pressed Snooze that morning, give them a sense of transparency with the materials in their Welcome Packet . Include some insider information to give them a jumpstart and to remove any ambiguity. Examples could include a description of their team's work environment ("it can be chilly in that corner, so bring a sweater"), an email intro to team members ("team, meet the new role recruit!"), or a request for a short personal bio for a welcome announcement to the company.

Providing succinct snapshots (like the slide below) can help your new hire feel more comfortable in their new position. This slide doesn’t need paragraphs describing each team member’s work, experience, or even their last name. It covers three things: first name, face, and function. All three will prove to be tremendously helpful when your new hire first meets the team in person. This information will also alleviate some of the anxiety about understanding the dynamics of their new team.

First day, first week, first six months

Every new hire expects to go through an HR orientation when they first arrive. Will the HR orientation take 90 minutes or a full nine hours? How much information will be covered? What questions will I need to ask? These are all unknowns new hires may have concerns about. Introductions, new hire paperwork, opening lines of communication, learning about different teams, clarifying the new role and expectations of performance are all unknown to a new hire when they first walk through the door.

Start with sending this Welcome Packet a week or so before the new employees' start date. It streamlines all necessary information and provides answers to the most important questions. Sending it in advance will give the new hire as an opportunity to digest the information well before he or she is thrown into battle. This “arrow bar” slide is a great way to provide a visual of important topics to be covered and what the progression of “to do” items will look like:

new employee presentation ideas

The first day is an integral part of the onboarding process. This is when you’re making sure that everything gets off to a great start. Providing a detailed look at the agenda will keep both you and your new hire on track and help ease the stresses of day one for both you (HR) and the employee.

Beautiful.ai’s “agenda” slide is specifically designed to convey a list of itemized events. It works great for providing an overview of your new hire’s first day. You can add additional information to each of the items, such as: who the meetings will be with and where they will be held. However, since the presentation goes into further detail about these meetings later on, you can feel free avoid the nitty gritty stuff for now!

new employee presentation ideas

The six months milestones

Onboarding is about the employee experience and setting them up to succeed. It doesn’t stop after the first day. In most cases, it takes someone a year to fully get up and running in all aspects of their role and function. This is why it’s so important to have a plan that extends at least six months. Once you have this plan, a best practice is to let your new hire know what’s coming down the pipeline - not just on their first day, but the next week and the next six months.

Here, again, there’s no need to get lost in the jungle of information. Instead, opt for an alternative that effectively covers the most important milestones. The objective here is just that: giving a heads-up and an overview of the important milestones coming up over Week 1 and the first six months. (You can leave the details for calendar invites and meeting agendas).

new employee presentation ideas

For this purpose, nothing summarizes a sequence of milestones like beautifully rendered timelines, like the ones below. While this example concludes the onboarding at Month 6, it is to be expected that this timeline would be different for each company. Editing the start and end points, as well as adding milestones, is as easy as clicking a button.

Once the onboarding is complete, it doesn’t hurt to check for understanding, measure the results, analyze the gaps, and incorporate feedback and improvements in your next Welcome Package. After all, edits to these Beautiful slides are incredibly easy to make!

9 Ideas for a Creative New Employee Onboarding

creative-new-employee-onboarding

When you onboard a new hire, it’s important to make them feel welcomed and excited about joining your team. The process is all about sharing knowledge, communicating values, and building connections. This helps you transform new employees into confident, engaged, and empowered team members. That’s why it’s so important to design a creative new employee onboarding experience. In fact, according to Glassdoor , an effective onboarding program can increase new hire retention by 82%, and productivity by over 70%.

What are Onboarding Activities?

So, what is onboarding , and what are creative new employee onboarding activities?

Employee onboarding is a new hire’s introduction to your company. It typically begins on an employee’s first day, and it is your opportunity to provide them with the knowledge they need to perform well at their jobs . It’s also a vital stage for introducing a new hire to your organization’s structure, culture, vision, mission, and values. When done correctly, the employee onboarding stage can help new hires become integrated, motivated, and productive members of your team.

Traditionally, onboarding involved endless boring paperwork, PowerPoints, and uncomfortable icebreakers. This, however, did nothing for the employee experience and often left employees ill-equipped, isolated, and, frankly, pretty bored.

These days, many companies appreciate the value of making the office or digital onboarding process as fun, creative, and interactive as possible. By focusing less on ticking boxes and more on creating fun and inclusive activities, new employees experience a warm welcome that helps them better understand and integrate into their new teams.

Creative onboarding activities are also a great way to make a good first impression through a positive employee experience , making new hires far more likely to stay at your company in the long run. The idea is to use creative employee onboarding activities to inspire and engage employees from day one so that they instantly feel a part of your corporate culture.

When it comes to onboarding ideas, it’s important not to focus too much on the practicalities. Although you need to process paperwork, order supplies, and prepare their new workspace, it’s just as important to prepare a series of creative new employee onboarding activities to help new hires understand your culture and build connections with their new colleagues.

If you don’t already have one, you should create an onboarding checklist to make sure everything is covered during this vital introductory phase. HR onboarding software is also a highly effective solution for making sure you get the most from the process.

Here are 9 creative onboarding activities to help you make your onboarding experience as fun, interactive and memorable as possible.

Preboarding

Preboarding is the process of engaging your new hires from the moment they accept your job offer. The aim is to spend this time familiarizing a new hire with your organization so that they are ready to hit the ground running on day one. This helps them feel welcome, engaged, and valued so that they are excited to join the team.

This might include an email outlining what they can expect during their first few days, a quick phone or video call with their new manager, providing them with access to onboarding software, or even a virtual tour of the office.

Preboarding is also a perfect opportunity to complete as many onboarding documents in advance as possible so that less time is spent completing paperwork on an employee’s first day. For example, if you work in manufacturing, you can share information about Good Manufacturing Practices in advance so that new hires can begin familiarizing themselves with materials and equipment.

You should also make sure you clarify the difference between onboarding vs. orientation so that your new hire knows what to expect when they arrive at the office.

Welcome Kit

One of the most important creative new employee onboarding activities you should implement is a comprehensive welcome kit. This will help your new hires understand the workings of your organization so that they feel comfortable and valued.

Your welcome kit might include:

  • A printed copy of your employee handbook
  • An organizational chart and office maps
  • Information about your company values, mission, vision, and culture
  • Office maps
  • Helpful information such as parking, dress code, where people go for lunch, nearby cafes, general working hours, etc.

Welcome Gift

A branded swag bag can be a great way to welcome a new employee to your company.

For example, you could provide them with branded stationery, a company mug, notebooks, a t-shirt with your company logo, or anything else that will help them feel included and happy to be joining the team.

You could even surprise your new hire on their first day by decorating their desk with balloons, a welcome sign, or their favorite breakfast food. Get creative!

Creative New Employee Onboarding Icebreakers

Another creative new employee onboarding activity is getting your new hire involved in a few get-to-know-you games to help break the ice. You can put your own spin on games like “Two Truths and a Lie.” based on trivia about the new hire.

Or you could play “Who is it?”. Get everyone on the team to submit an unusual fact about themselves. Then gather the team and get the new hire to guess who is connected to each fact.

You could even create a light-hearted quiz to test and reward a new employee’s knowledge of the company. Deloitte got very creative with this idea and created their own zombie apocalypse onboarding game. The more fun and creative, the better!

Buddy System

Introducing a buddy system can help your new hires feel less lonely and isolated during their first few weeks. A buddy can guide them through the socialization process and show them the ropes. They can also get them up to speed with some of the “unwritten rules” of the organization. Plus, it’s a great way to make sure your new starter has the right support when they need it.

You could even expand this idea and offer new hires a selection of buddies. For example, you could assign them a Leader Buddy, a Role Buddy, and a Culture Buddy. This will help them get to know every aspect of your business so that they can fully integrate into your organization.

Scavenger Hunt

Of all the unique onboarding activities for new employees mentioned in this article, this one is perhaps the most playful and fun. It involves a scavenger hunt in the office!

With this game, new hires have to visit other staff members in order to collect answers or rewards. This can be a great way to get new hires used to the office layout. It also encourages them to meet people from different departments and get to know their team members . Plus, it takes away the awkwardness of introductions and creates a sense of openness.

Start on a Friday

Most employers arrange for new hires to start on a Monday morning. Instead, why not introduce them to the company on a Friday. This idea can work wonders in reducing anxiety and helping the new starter feel at ease. The general mood of the office will also be lighter than on a Monday morning. Plus, everyone will be relaxed and excited about the upcoming weekend.

New call-to-action

Rookie Cookie Program

Another simple yet creative new employee onboarding activity is encouraging the new hire to participate in a “Rookie Cookie” program. First, encourage your new hire to bring in cakes or cookies on their first day. They just get them to set them up on their new desk. The promise of treats will then motivate other members of the team to stop by and introduce themselves. Much tastier and more enjoyable than a formal meet and greet!

Organize a Creative New Employee Onboarding Social Event

Finally, the most traditional of all the creative new employee onboarding activities is organizing a social event. This could be a lunch, drinks after work, or a picnic in the park. A fun event can be a great way to break the ice in an informal setting so that your new hire can start building relationships with their new colleagues. It also shows them that you care about giving them a warm welcome and you value that they have joined your team.

23 Creative Onboarding Ideas Your New Hires Will Love

Do you have a structured onboarding in place for your team and your organization?  Remember, first impressions last ... For your people to be able to hit the ground running, they need to be wow:ed instead of simply informed. Here's a list of our favorite onboarding ideas to create engagement and high productivity from the start!

Want to improve your onboarding process? Make sure you download Digital Onboarding: 7 tips – How to increase productivity from day 1 and make new hires happier. There is a lot to gain if you and your organization carefully organize and execute your onboarding process in the most effective way. Most importantly, it empowers your new hires to succeed faster and become brand ambassadors before they even start .

Schedule a lunch

Book a lunch for the new hire, their manager, and the team they’ll be working with. That way, they can meet and talk with everyone in a casual setting. Do this either before day one or right away on their first day. It can be live or digital – as long as it happens!

Wow them from the moment you send over the contract

Strengthen your employer brand early on. most companies go radio silent between contract-signing and the first day at the office. instead, use the time to preboard your new hire and share the excitement. , do an entry interview, schedule a video call, send the new hire some company swag.

If your company hosts a weekly happy hour or other social event , invite the new hire to attend.

Reach out and let them choose

Schedule an office tour.

After the new hire accepts the offer, schedule an office tour. They can come back in more relaxed knowing they’ve already landed the job. Or include a virtual tour via video and add it in your preboarding program.

Set up a Buddy for your new hire

Have your buddy person connect with your new hire before their first day and during their first week and month. Read more here .

Pair your new hire with a 30-day “point person”

Send a basic schedule to your new hire.

Keep it simple. The aim is to outline what they can expect before they start and during their first week or two on the job. Avoid an in-depth road map. That could seem a bit overwhelming early on.

Invite your new hire to join a Happy hour gathering Every Friday, we gather all Learnifier teams for a ‘Drink o’clock’. It's great to expose your new hire to their team and co-workers in an informal, social setting.

Check in with your new hire three times before day one

Create a team gif

Here is how to create a gif from a short video.

Make the First Day Festive and Fun

Create an onboarding kit, make the first week delightful, set up a quiz, turn your onboarding into a scavenger hunt.

Organize a scavenger hunt for your new employees! The scavenger hunt can be a series of tasks and questions designed to expose new hires to all areas of the company. Who is the video wizard? Who has done over 100 customer onboarding workshops? And so on. It’s also a fun way to ensure that the new hire meets all the other employees and learns what they do. Also, it creates familiarity with all other departments quickly and establishes cooperative working relationships from day one.

Write a creative employee handbook (and rename it)

Turn your onboarding into a bootcamp, ask for feedback and optimize, blend your employee onboarding with continuous learning.

120+ Presentation Ideas, Topics & Example

By Ryan McCready , May 08, 2023

Best Presentation Ideas, Design Tips & Examples

Did you know that  46% of people can’t sit through a presentation without losing focus?

That’s why I wanted to learn how to make a presentation that will captivate an audience. After looking at hundreds of different authors, topics, and designs, I’ve assembled over 100 presentation ideas and tips on how to design a compelling presentation for:

  • Social media
  • Online courses
  • Pitch decks
  • Lead generation

In this blog, you’ll find 120+ presentation ideas, design tips and examples to help you create an awesome slide deck for your next presentation.

To start off, here’s a video on the 10 essential presentation design tips to make sure that your presentations don’t fall under the YAWN category.

1. Use A Minimalist Presentation Theme

Modern Airbnb Presentation Ideas

CREATE THIS PRESENTATION TEMPLATE

The best designs can also be some of the simplest you see. In the Airbnb pitch deck below, they use a minimalist color scheme and font selection.

Creative Airbnb Pitch Deck Ideas

A minimalist design is sleek, organized and places the most important thing in focus: your information. There are no distracting stock images, icons, or content. Everything on this unique presentation feels like it belongs and works together perfectly.

Learn how to customize this template:

2. Use a Consistent Design Motif Throughout Your Presentation

Here’s a go-to tip to for a cohesive presentation design: use a design motif. The motif could be a recurring shape (like circles, lines or arrows) or symbol (like a leaf for “growth” or a mountain for “goals”). For more ideas, check out our guide to common symbols and meanings used in design .

For example, this  presentation template uses circles as a design motif. The same circle icon is used in three different colors to add a bubbly touch to the design. The team photos are also incorporated using circle frames:

3. Use an Eye-Catching Presentation Background Image

Photography Creative Presentation Ideas copy

Like with any type of design work, you should want to catch the eye of your audience. In a presentation, this should be done from the beginning with a  compelling background image or a color gradient.

Creative Tech Presentation Ideas

In this presentation template, the creators were able to do just that with a landscape photo. When a presentation like this is seen on social media, during a webinar or in person, your audience will definitely listen up.

4. Visualize Your Points With Icons

Icons are the perfect visuals to include in presentations. They’re compact and can convey a concept to your audience at a glance. You can even combine multiple icons to create custom illustrations for your slides.

Use the Icon Search in Venngage to find illustrated and flat icons:

5. Use A Black & White Color Scheme For A Corporate Presentation Design

Easy Black Business Presentation Ideas

In the presentation below there are only two colors used: black and white. Now, you might be worried that only using two colors is boring, but it all comes down to balance.

Minimalist White Business Presentation Ideas

Playing off the ideas of classic minimalism, the designer made this presentation look sleek and professional. And now your content can be the main attraction of your presentation as well!

6. Repurpose Your Slide Deck Into An Infographic

OfficeVibe Creative Illustrated Presentation Ideas

Different types of presentations serve different purposes and sometimes it helps to work smarter, not harder when you are creating a unique presentation. In fact, the spacing, layout, and style used in this presentation makes it easy to repurpose the same images into an infographic.

OfficeVibe Creative Marketing Presentation Ideas

This allows you to create two unique pieces of content from one idea!  Which is exactly what  Officevibe did .

7. Break Your Genre Mold For A Fun Presentation Idea

SEMRush Content Marketing Presentation Ideas

When I first clicked on this creative presentation from SEMrush, I was not expecting to be transported into a comic book. I’m glad I clicked because it may be the most unique slide deck I have ever seen. Going this extreme with your presentation ideas may seem a bit risky, but to be able to break the mold in this age of cookie-cutter presentations is worth it.

To leave a lasting impression on your audience, consider transforming your slides into an interactive presentation. Here are 15  interactive presentation ideas  to enhance interactivity and engagement.

8. Make Your Presentation Cover Slide Count

WebTrends Business Presentation Ideas

As I was scrolling through all of the presentations, this one made me stop in my tracks. It could be that I have a life-long love of Star Wars, or it could be that their presentation cover slide was designed to do just that: grab your attention. That’s why you should not stick with a boring, text-only title slide. Don’t be afraid to use icons and illustrations to make a statement.

9.  Alternate Slide Layouts to Keep Your Presentation Engaging

Easy Real Estate Presentation Ideas

Keeping your audience engaged throughout an entire presentation is hard, even if you have been working on your presentation skills . No one wants to look at slides that look exactly the same for an hour. But on the other hand, you can’t create a unique masterpiece for each slide.

Creative Real Estate Marketing Presentation Ideas

That’s why I’m very impressed with what the designers did in the presentation example above. They use a consistent visual theme on each slide, but alternate between vertical and horizontal orientations.

The swapping of orientations will show people that the presentation is progressing nicely. It can help you make a strong, almost physical, distinction between ideas, sections or topics.

10. Make Your Audience Laugh, Or At Least Chuckle

Modern Company Branding Presentation Ideas

Sometimes you need to not take your business presentations too seriously. Not sure what I mean? Go check out slide number 10 on this slide deck below.

Funny Branding Presentation Ideas

If you did not actually laugh out loud, then I don’t know what to tell you. Small illustrated embellishments can be very powerful because they evoke an emotional response and to gain your audience’s trust.

Did you know 70% of employees think that giving a good presentation is an essential workplace skill? Check out the top qualities of awesome presentations and learn all about how to make a good presentation to help you nail that captivating delivery.

11. Supplement Your Presentation with Printed Materials

Presentation Ideas Brochure

Printed takeaways (such as brochures and business cards ) give audience members a chance to take home the most important elements of your presentation in a format they can easily access without using a computer. Make sure you brand these materials in a way that’s visually consistent with your slide deck, with the same color scheme, icons, and other iconic features; otherwise, your recipients will just end up scratching their heads.

Presentation Ideas Brochure

If you’re giving people multiple materials, try packaging them all into one convenient presentation folder. There are over 100 styles with a wide range of custom options, so feel free to get creative and make your folder stand out. Sometimes a unique die cut or an unusual stock is all you need to make something truly memorable. Here are some brochure templates to get you started.

12. Only Use One Chart Or Graphic Per Slide

Having too much information on a slide is the easiest way to lose the focus of your audience. This is especially common when people are using graphs, charts or tables .

Blue Creative Tech Presentation Ideas

In this creative slide deck, the author made sure to only include one focal point per slide, and I applaud them for it. I know this may sound like a simple presentation tip, but I have seen many people lose their audience because the slides are too complex.

13. Keep Your Employee Engagement Presentations Light

OfficeVibe Modern Presentation Ideas

Sometimes you need to get away from stuffy, professional presentation ideas to capture your audience’s attention. In this case, Officevibe used some very colorful and playful illustrations to stand out from the crowd.

Creative Startup Presentation Ideas

I mean, who could not love the plant with a face on slide number 9? And if you want to see some more icons and illustrations like this, be sure to check out our article on how to tell a story with icons.

14.  Feature a Map When Talking About Locations

Purple Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

Including a map in your creative presentations is a fantastic idea! Not only do they make an interesting focal point for your slide layout, they also make location-based information easier to understand.

Purple Startup Pitch Presentation Ideas

This cool presentation example by our pro designers at Venngage uses maps to visualize information. This map both dominates the screen, and also displays all the locations being covered.

15. Use a Font That Is Large and In Charge

Bold Content Marketing Presentation Ideas

If you are presenting to a small group or a packed stadium, make sure your audience can see your text! Use a large and in charge font that can be read from even the nosebleed seats.

Honestly, you really never know where your unique presentation will be seen. It could be seen in a conference room or conference hall, and everything in between. Be ready to present almost anywhere with a bold and easy to read font.

16. Use Pop Culture References To Build A Fun Presentation

Drift Business Presentation Ideas

Using a meme or pop culture reference is another way that you can jive with your audience. It can be used to quickly get a point across without saying a word or create a moment that you can connect with the room. For example in this presentation, they used Napoleon Dynamite to give the audience feelings of nostalgia.

17. Use More Than One Font Weight On Your Presentation Cover Slide

Steve Jobs Apple Presentation Ideas

Just like you would never use one font on an infographic, you should never use just one font on your presentation (for more tips, read our guide on how to choose fonts ). In this presentation example from HubSpot, they use a bunch of different font weights to add emphasis to key words and ideas.

As you can see, they use a bold font on the presentation cover to bring attention to Steve Jobs name. This makes it easy for the audience to know what your presentation is going to be about from the beginning as well.

18. Use A Color Theme For Each Idea

Colorful Dell Tech Presentation Ideas

Color is another extremely powerful nonverbal tool that you can use to guide your audience. By using a different color for each section of your creative presentation, Dell is able to clearly indicate when they are switching points or ideas.  Going from green to orange, and even red almost effortlessly.

Colorful Technology Presentation Ideas

This is a great way to design a list, guide, or a  how-to presentation as well. And each color can be assigned to a different step or number with ease.

Need help picking the perfect color palette? Start here !

19. use illustrations instead of pictures .

Illustrated Tech Presentation Ideas

An easy way to keep your design consistent throughout your unique presentation is to use illustrations like in this slide deck by Domo.

They used illustrations instead of pictures to show off their subject on slide numbers 4-10 and it looks fantastic. This will ensure that the audience focuses on the content, instead of just the photo they could have used.

It also helps that illustrations are a top design trend for 2020 .

20. Use Contrasting Colors to Compare Two Perspectives or Sides of an Argument

Creative Comparison Presentation Ideas

Contrasting colors can be used to quickly show each side of topic or an argument. For example in this presentation, they use this trick to show the difference between their company and the competition.

Simple Product Comparison Presentation Ideas

They use color very effectively in this example to show their company is better, in a nonverbal way. With a lighter color and illustrated icons, the company is able to position them as the better choice. All without saying a word.

Now if they would have used similar colors, or a single color the effect wouldn’t have been as strong or noticeable.

21. Include Your Own Personal Interests

Innovative Business Tech Presentation Ideas

This example is one of the most interesting and cool presentations I have seen in awhile, so I suggest checking out the entire thing. The creator inserts a bunch of his personal interests into the slide to make his presentation about education fun and relatable. And they even use a Super Mario Bros inspired presentation cover, so you know it has to be fantastic!

22. Try To Stick To Groups Of Three

Simple Black Presentation Ideas

How many major ideas should be present on your presentation aid? Never break your  presentation layout down into anything more than thirds. This means there should be at most three columns, three icons, three ideas and so on.  A great example of this idea starts on slide number 9 in this slide deck and continues throughout the rest of the presentation.

Here is a great three columned slide template to get started with.

23. add a timeline to help visualize ideas .

Modern History Presentation Ideas

One of the best ways to visualize a complex process or historical event is to use a timeline presentation. A list of all the steps or events is just not going to cut it in a professional setting. You need to find an engaging way to visualize the information.

Simple History Class Presentation Ideas

Take the presentation example above, where they outline the rise and fall of Athens in a visually stimulating way.

24. Label Your Graphs & Charts

Creative Data Visualization Presentation Ideas

If the people at Pollen VC had not added those annotations to the graphs on slide number 5, I would have definitely not known what to make of that graph.

But when you combine the visuals on a graph with descriptive text, the graph is able to paint a picture for your audience. So make your graphs easy to understand by annotating them (this is a chart design best practice ).

Create a free graph right here, right now !

25. white font over pictures just works .

There is a reason that you see so many quotes or sayings in a white font that are then overlaid on an image. That it is because it just works in so many situations and the text is very easy to read on any image.

If you do not believe me, look at the slide deck example above where they use a white font with a few different fonts and about 100 images. Plus the presentation template is chocked full of other tips on how to create a winning slideshow.

26. Color Code Your Points Across The Whole Presentation

Creative Tech Startup Presentation Ideas

Here is another example of a presentation that uses color to keep their points organized. In this case, they use 10 different pastel colors to match the 10 different tips for employee engagement.

Illustrated Tech Business Presentation Ideas

Check out our guide for how to pick the best colors for your visuals .

27.  Use a Simple Flow Chart to Break Down a Process

Colorful Sponsorship Presentation Ideas

If you’re a fan of the movie Step Brothers , you may have heard of Prestige Worldwide before. In this fun presentation example they are back to sell you on their business model and growth plans.

This time, the presentation will be effective because it actually talks about what the business does.

Colorful Marketing Event Presentation Ideas

Instead of making a music video, they use a helpful flowchart template to explain their business model. I would recommend following their lead and creating a dynamic flow chart to visually break down any process.  Try making your own flowchart  with Venngage.

28. Make Your Slide Deck Mobile Friendly

Globoforce Red Human Resources Presentation Ideas

As more people move to mobile as their main device each year, making your presentations mobile-friendly is becoming increasingly important. This means that the text is large and there aren’t too many small details, so everything can scale down. Just like in this presentation example from the creators at Globoforce.

29. Don’t Be Afraid To Include Too Many Examples

With Company Product Development Presentation Ideas

If you are presenting a complex idea to a group, especially a large audience, I would recommend having a ton of good examples. Now, I would try not to overdo it, but having too many it is better than having too few.

In this creative presentation, the people at With Company spend about 20 slides just giving great examples of prototyping. It doesn’t feel too repetitive because they all are useful and informative examples.

30.  Use Consistent Visual Styles For an Elegant Presentation Design

I have already written extensively about using icons in all of your design projects . I haven’t talked as much about matching icons to your presentation template.

Modern Business Marketing Presentation Ideas copy

But that’s just as important, especially if you want to create a professional presentation for your audience.

As you can see in the example above, the designer used minimalist icons that fit the slide designs. All of the other graphics, charts and visual elements fit together nicely as well.

Plus the icons don’t distract from the content, which could ruin a stellar presentation.

31. Use A Consistent Presentation Layout

Bannersnack Graphic Design Presentation Ideas

In this example from Bannersnack, they use a consistent layout on each of their slides to help with the flow by using the same margins and text layout.

Bannersnack Modern Design Presentation Ideas

It’s a solid presentation example because they help the user know where to look immediately. It may seem like they are playing it safe, but anything that can speed up the time it takes for a user to read the content of the slides, the better.

32. Use Loud Colors As Much As Possible

Colorful Creative Tech Presentation Ideas

This is one of my favorite presentations because of the highlighter yellow they chose to use as their main color. It is actually very similar to one that I saw presented live a few years ago and I have used this same approach in a few presentations ideas of my own.

33. Pull Your Design Motif From Your Content

Creative Education Workshop Presentation Ideas

If you are talking about an interesting topic, why not use the topic as the main design motif in your creative slide deck? For example, in this presentation about sketchbooks, the creator uses a sketchy, handwritten motif. It is something simple that helps the audience connect with the topic. Plus, it allows you to include a ton of great examples.

34. Utilize A Call & Answer Cadence

Simple White Marketing Presentation Ideas

In this SlideShare about how to create a presentation, Peter Zvirinsky uses a two-step process to present a point. First, he presents the header presentation tip in a speech bubble. Then he shows a supporting point in a responding speech bubble. This gives the presentation a conversational flow.

35. Repurpose Ebook Content Into A Creative Presentation

Purple Seth Godin Presentation Ideas

This slide deck was adapted perfectly from a Seth Godin ebook into the presentation example you see above. In the slide deck, they take a piece of content that would usually take a while to read and cut it down to a few minutes. Just remember to include only the most important ideas, and try to present them in a fresh way.

36. Add A Timed Outline To Your Presentation

Simple Blue Monthly Business Presentation Ideas

We have already covered how important it is to have a table of contents in your slides but this takes it a bit further. On the second slide of the presentation below, the creator added how long each of the slides should take.

White Minimalist Business Presentation Ideas

This is great because it helps your audience know the pace the presentation will take and will help keep them engaged. It also will help them identify the most important and in-depth parts of the presentation from the beginning.

37. Use A “Next Steps” Slide To Direct Your Audience

Purple Gradient Presentation Ideas

One of the worst things you can do as a presenter is to leave your audience without any idea of what to do next. A presentation should never just end because you ran out of slides.

Blue Creative Gradient Presentation Ideas

Instead, use a conclusion or “next steps” slide like in the example above to finish your presentation. Sum up some of your main points, tell your audience where they can get more information, and push them to take action.

38. Go A Bit Crazy With The Design

Velocity Partners Simple White Presentation Ideas

Sometimes you need to throw convention to the wind to create something unforgettable. This presentation from Velocity Partners does just that, and I think it is one of my favorite ones from this entire roundup.

Velocity Partners Simple Tech Presentation Ideas

They use unconventional typography, quirky icons, and unusual presentation layout to make each slide surprising.

39. Make Your Slide Deck Easy To Share

Simple Content Marketing Presentation Ideas

If you are looking to get a lot of eyes on your presentation I would make sure people will want to share it on social media. How do you do that? By presenting new and interesting value. This means your content needs to answer a common question and your design needs to be clutter-free. For example, look at this very social media-friendly. The slides are simple and answer questions directly.

40.  Use Shapes to Integrate Your Photos Into the Slides

Colorful Food Presentation Ideas

Want to include a bunch of images in your presentation? I say do it!

Now most of the time you would add a raw image directly to your slide. However, if you want to present images in a professional way I would recommend using an image frame .

Nutrition Creative Presentation Ideas

Like in the example above, you can use these frame to create a collage of images almost instantly. Or provide a similar visual theme to all of your slides.

Overall, I believe it’s a great way to add a new visual component to your presentation.

41. Hijack Someone’s Influence In Your Marketing Slides

Creative Social Media Presentation Ideas

If you are stuck in the brainstorming phase of your presentation, focusing on a brand or influencer is a great place to start. It could be a case study, a collection of ideas or just some quotes from the influencer. But what makes it effective is that the audience knows the influencer and trusts them. And you are able to hijack their awareness or influence.

42. Put Your Logo On Every Slide

Moz Business Marketing Presentation Ideas

Whether you have a brand as powerful as Moz, or you are just getting started, you should always have your logo on each slide. You really never know where a presentation is going to end up–or what parts of it will! In this presentation template, Moz does a good job of including their branding and such to get others interested in Moz Local. Don’t have a logo yet? Our logo design tips will help you create a logo that’s iconic and will stand the test of time.

43. Lead Your Audience To It

Blogging Tips Presentations Ideas

In this example, the creator uses something very similar to the call and answer approach I mentioned above, but with a little twist. Instead of just throwing all the info up at once, they use three slides to build to a particular point and include a subtle call to action in the third slide.

44. Make Visuals the Focal Point of Your Presentation Slides

Non Profit Creative Presentation Ideas

If you haven’t noticed, illustrated icons are having a revival in 2020 and beyond. This is likely because minimalist icons dominated the design world for the past decade. And now people want something new.

Brands also like using illustrated icons because they are seen as genuine and fun.

Blood Donation Creative Presentation

And because they are so eye-catching you can use them as focal points in your presentation slides. Just like they did in the creative presentation example above.

Picking the perfect icon is tough, I would recommend starting here !

45. use a quirky presentation theme .

Animation Ninja Funny Tech Presentation Ideas

In this slide deck, the authors show you how to become an Animation Ninja…and they use ninja graphics and icons extensively. This caught my eye immediately because of the amount of work that I knew was behind this. It takes a lot of time and effort to line all of the content and graphic up to create a cohesive theme, but the payoff can be massively worth it.

46. Use A Consistent Background Image

Simple Modern Business Presentation Ideas

I am a big fan of the way that Aleyda Solís uses only a single presentation background image throughout her presentation.

Modern SEO Marketing Presentation Ideas

By using this tactic the audience is able to focus on what is happening in the foreground. Plus it gives the whole presentation a different feel than all the other ones I have looked at.

47. Summarize Your Points At The End

Deanta Data Driven Marketing Presentation Ideas

It’s a good idea to summarize your points before you end your presentation , especially if you’ve covered a lot of information. In this presentation example, Deanta summarizes exactly what they do on slide numbers 16-18. They also provide their contact information in case their audience has any more questions. I think that every presentation should use this same approach, especially the ones you are presenting outside of your company.

48. Use A Minimalist Presentation Template

QuickBooks Minimalist Presentation Ideas

This slide deck from QuickBooks uses a minimalist theme to help the audience focus on what is important, the content.

QuickBooks White Simple Presentation Ideas

There were only five colors used in the entire presentation and the graphics were simple line drawings. This made it easy to read and very pleasing to the eyes.

49. Split Your Slides Length-Wise

Sequoia Startup Presentation Ideas

Here is a simple template you can use to separate your headers, or main points, from your body text in a presentation.

Minimalist White Startup Presentation Ideas

Instead of using a solid presentation background, split the slide in half like Sequoia did in their slide deck. They used their brand color for the title portion and a neutral white for the supporting content.

Use this template to create a very similar slide right now !

50.  embrace a bold color scheme throughout your presentation.

Colorful Modern Creative Presentation Ideas

My favorite part of the creative presentation example above is the use of complementary colors in each slide. As you can see, not one of the slides use the same color scheme but they all feel related connected.

Colorful Modern Presentation Ideas

This approach can be used to make your presentation visually unique, without abandoning a cohesive theme or idea.

51. Put Text In the Top Left Corner

Simple Orange Business Presentation Ideas

English speakers will instinctively try to read text from a top to bottom, left to right orientation. I would recommend using a left alignment for your text and adding additional things from top to bottom, just like Aaron Irizarry did in this presentation layout.

52. Break Up Your Tables

Intuit Financial Business Presentation Ideas

A plain table with a white background with black or gray lines are difficult to read on a computer screen, so why would you create one for viewing on a large presentation screen? You shouldn’t!

Instead, follow Intuit’s lead and break up the rows with a bit of color. This applies to data visualization in general , but think it is even more important when it comes to presentations.

53.  Present Connected Information in a Visually Similar Way

Yellow Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

In this startup pitch presentation example, they have a ton of information to get through. But they present their most important slides, the problem and solution, in a visually similar way.

Yellow Creative Startup Presentation Ideas

By using a similar layout on each slide, the audience will be able to quickly make a connection. If you want to present two connected pieces of information, use this tactic.

Yellow Modern Startup Presentation Ideas

From the font to the layout, it’s all basically the same. The main message they’re trying to impart is a lot more impactful to the reader.

If they would have used two wildly different presentation layouts, the message may have been lost.

54. Roundup Expert Tips Into One Presentation

Venngage Presentation Ideas

If you are looking for useful insights into the topic of your presentation, talk to some influencers in your niche. These are called “expert roundups” in the content marketing world and they are incredibly shareable.

Data Driven Presentation Ideas

Plus, they are pretty easy to create and have a great shelf life. In the example above, we talked to a gaggle of marketing experts about what makes a SlideShare great.

55. Use Bold & Brash Colors Throughout

Gradient SEO Marketing Presentation Ideas

B old colors usually make your presentation template a lot easier to read and remember. Like at this slide deck made by our talented designers, which doesn’t shy away from bright, bold colors.

Want to pick a perfect color palette for your presentation? We can help!

56. make yo ur graphs easy to read & interpret .

Futuristic Presentation Ideas

It should not require a Master’s degree in statistics to understand the graphs that someone uses in a presentation. Instead, the axis should be easy to read, the colors should enforce the point, and the data should be clearly plotted.

Creative Data Presentation Ideas

For example, in this presentation on slide numbers 14 and 25, the graphs nail all of those tips perfectly.

57. Condense Your Presentation Into a Memorable Line

Red Simple Business Presentation Ideas

If you can, try condensing your information into a simple one-liner to help the message stick with your audience. In slide number 36 of this presentation, Mika Aldaba does just that and shows that “Facts + Feelings = Data Storytelling.”

Minimalist White Business Presentation Ideas

He does this again a few times throughout the presentation with other memorable one-liners.

58.  Bring attention to important figures with colorful icons

Blue Investor Pitch Deck Presentation Idea

If you’re including a figure or number on your slides, I’m guessing you want the audience to actually see it.

That’s why I would recommend using an icon or graphic to highlight that figure. Maybe use a color or icon that isn’t used anywhere else in the presentation to make sure it really jumps off the screen.

Colorful Blue Yellow Investor Presentation Idea copy

In the presentation example above, all that’s used is a simple circle to make each figure a focal point. It’s really that easy, but many people leave it out of their presentations.

59. Anchor Your Text With Icons

Studio Ninja Creative Gradient Presentation Ideas

Having your text or content floating out in the white space of your presentation is not a good look.

Studio Ninja White Presentation Ideas

Instead, you should use anchor icons to give the text something to hold onto and draw the audience’s eye. If you need some examples of good anchor icons, check out slide numbers 4, 7 and 9 in this presentation example.

60. Add Semi-Opaque Lettering As a Presentation Background

Stinson Illustrated Presentation Ideas

A neat way to keep your slide deck organized is to number your slides or points using semi-opaque lettering in the background.

Stinson Creative Illustrated Presentation Ideas

Then, place your slide content on top of the opaque lettering. This helps your audience know that you are on the same point or idea, plus it just looks really good when done right.

61. Use Simple Or Minimalist Borders

An easy way to class up your slides is to put a border around your text. Take this presentation from Venngage that uses a couple of different types of borders to make their slides look professional.

Modern Orange Business Presentation Ideas2 copy

Plus it helps keep all of your content contained on the slide!

62. Feature One Idea Per Slide

Minimalist Marketing Presentation Ideas

Nothing is worse than a confusing, cluttered slide. Instead of trying to pack a bunch of ideas into one slide, focus on one core idea on each slide. If you need to flesh the idea out, just make another slide.

Having trouble condensing your slides? Our presentation design guide can help you summarize your presentations and convey a singular idea with a clear focus.

63. Keep Your Style Consistent With Your Brand

Creative OfficeVibe Presentation Ideas

You might be tempted to switch up the style of your creative presentations each time, but think again. If your brand is known for fun and lighthearted content, like Officevibe, let that be your style throughout all of the presentations you publish under that brand. This will make your slide decks recognizable and will enforce your brand’s message .

64. Use Accent Fonts to Emphasize Important Numbers

Some people hate pie charts with a passion, but I think they are perfect for presentations. Especially if you want to bring attention to a figure or percentage point .

Colorful Social Media Marketing Presentation Ideas

In this simple example, the pie charts are used to visualize each figure in an interesting way. Plus the pie charts fit the circular and fun theme of the rest of the presentation very well.

65. Use Patterned and Textured Presentation Backgrounds

Design Tips Presentation Ideas

Source

Adding some subtle textures, icons or shapes to the presentation background can help make your slides more interesting. This is especially effective when you are only showing one point per slide, because it makes the slide design less sparse.

DesignMantic Creative Presentation Ideas

You can even switch up the colors on your shapes or textures to match the theme of the slide like DesignMantic did in this presentation.

66. Illustrate Complex Or Confusing Concepts With Icons

Gluwa Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

Ideally, you don’t want every slide in your deck to just be text. Instead, switch things up every few slides by using just pictures.

Simple Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

This slide deck by Gluwa uses icons to create little diagrams to illustrate their presentation ideas. Their slides still communicate concepts to the audience, but in a new way.

67. Overlay Stock Photos With Color

Change Sciences Data Driven Presentation Ideas

One problem many people encounter when creating a presentation or slide decks are finding photos with a consistent style. An easy way to edit photos to make them consistent is to add a transparent color overlay. In this example, Change Sciences uses a blue overlay on all of their photos. Plus, the color you choose can also help convey a particular mood.

68. Use Black and White Blocks

Creative Leadership Presentation Ideas

An easy way to make your text pop, particularly on a photo background, is to use white font on a black blog background (and vise-versa). Check out this slide deck by Abhishek Shah, which uses this trick in an effective way.

Now if you want to become a better leader this year, check out some of our favorite leadership infographics .

69. Use Photos With Similar Filters

Hubspot Business Presentation Ideas

Using a bunch of photos with wildly different filters can be jarring in a business presentation. To maintain a consistent flow, use photos with a similar filter and color saturation.

Hubspot Creative Presentation Ideas

Take a look at this example from HubSpot across slide numbers 1-6 and you can see what I mean.

70. Visualize Your Points With Diagrams

Purple Data Driven Presentation Ideas

Sometimes the best way to get your point across is to throw some diagrams into the presentation mix. But be sure to make is something that the audience can pick up on in three to five seconds tops.

Purple Data Driven Business Presentation Ideas

For example, Jan Rezab uses a diagram to illustrate what takes up time in our lives on slide numbers 4, 5, 7 and 9!

71. Get Experts To Share Tips

Expert Business Presentation Ideas

If you want to provide even more value to your audience than you can offer yourself, why not call in some expert reinforcement? See what experts in your field have to say on the topic of your presentation and include their tips and insights. Plus you can hijack their influence and expand your audience fairly quickly.

72. Mimic a Popular Presentation Style

Uber Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

Uber’s pitch deck helped them raise millions of dollars in venture capital eventually leading to the glorious moment when they IPOed this year.

Aside from our sleek design upgrade (hey, we love good design!), this pitch deck template is the exact same one that Uber used to go from Idea to IPO.

And who knows? Maybe you might start the next Uber. But to raise money, you will need to create flawless business pitch decks to impress investors and raise those dollars.

73. Plan Your Presentation Idea Ahead of Time

HighSpark Marketing Presentation Ideas

I know that minimalist designs are all the rage this year, but there is a big difference between a well-thought-out minimalist design and a lazy design without the finish touches. The same goes for a cluttered design with too many things going on at once.

HighSpark Creative Presentation Ideas

That’s why it’s worth it to take the time to really plan out your presentation ideas and design concepts. Take this slide deck about storytelling by HighSpark. A quick glance will tell you that they put a lot of thought into designing their slides.

74.  Use Tables to Compare Your Brand to the Competition in Sales Presentations/Pitch Decks

Mint Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

There are a lot of ways to visually compare similar things in this day and age. You could use a comparison infographic , or even a venn diagram!

However, when it comes to presentations I think that the simple table is best. Especially if you are comparing more than two things, like in this presentation example.

Green Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

With a table, you can clearly lay out all the pros and cons of each idea, brand or topic without it being overwhelming to the audience. Plus, virtually everyone knows how to follow a table, so your information will be easy to consume.

See more examples of the best pitch decks .

75. Blend Icons & Content Effortlessly

Social Media Trends Presentation Ideas

Usually, icons are used as eye-catching objects detectors or anchors for text in a slideshow. But they can be used for so much more than that!

Social Media Marketing Presentation Ideas

Like in this marketing presentation from Constant Contact they are very large but do not distract from the content.

76. Make Your Audience Want More

Green Growth Hack Presentations Ideas

This tactic has been used by everyone since the idea of marketing was invented (or close to that). In this presentation example called “100 Growth Hacks, 100 Days” the creator only shows the audience the first 10 days of it and then uses a call to action at the end of the presentation to encourage them to seek out the rest.

Simple Green Marketing Presentations Ideas

The only risk with these kinds of presentation ideas is if your initial content is not great, you can’t expect your audience to seek out more information.

77. Use Memes (For Real, Though)

Moz Content Marketing Presentation Ideas

Usually, memes do not have a place in a serious business setting, so maybe don’t use them for formal presentations. But if you’re covering a lighter topic, or if you’re going for a fun presentation that will connect with your audience, don’t be afraid to throw a meme or two into the mix.

The audience immediately knows what you are trying to say when you use a popular meme in your presentation. For example, on slide number 7, the creator uses a meme to show that it will be hard to create great content

78.  Include a Slide that Introduces Your Team in Pitch Decks

Modern Black Business Presentation Ideas

In this presentation example, the creators decided to include their team on a slide. I think it’s a great gesture.

Minimalist Black Presentation Ideas

Showing your team can help the audience put a face to your brand and make the whole company feel more genuine. So if there is a team that has helped you get where you are today, give them some recognition!

79. Feature A Complementary Color Palette

Bright Yellow Gary Vaynerchuk Presentation Ideas

Even though I am not a formally trained designer, I still understand that proper color usage is the base of any good design. Although not all of the tenets of color theory work great for presentations, complementary colors are always a great pick.

Creative Gary Vaynerchuk Presentation Ideas

Take a look at the color usage in this business presentation from Gary Vaynerchuk below . The purple and Snapchat yellow, which are complementary colors, look fantastic and the content jumps off the screen.

80. Use A Heavy Or Bold Font

Throwback HR Presentation Ideas

The very back of the room should be able to read your content if you are giving a group presentation. To ensure that your entire audience can read the slides I would not only use a large font, but also use a heavy font.  If you are confused by what I mean by a heavy font take a look at this unique presentation example by Slides That Rock.

81. Do The Math For Your Audience

Data Driven Startup Presentation Ideas

If you are going to use a graph in your presentation to compare data you should do the match for your audience. Do not make them do the calculations in their head because you will quickly lose their attention. For example, on slide number 5 the people at Sickweather lay out exactly what figures they want the audience to take from the slide.

82. Use Unique Colors For Different Sections

Copywriting Presentation Ideas

The example below has 145 slides but it does not feel overwhelming or confusing.

Marketing Tips Presentation Ideas

That’s because each section has a different corresponding color, which makes it easier to flip through the slide deck and find a particular part.

83.  Give Your Presentation a Catchy Title that Anyone Can Remember

Information Creative Presentation Ideas

What I really love about the presentation example above is that it features a catchy tagline on the second slide–“The 3S Framework.” It’s simple but it works!

Modern Summary Presentation Ideas

This motto helps outline the structure of the presentation, and each slide referring back to it. Plus, the tagline will give the audience something to latch onto and remember from the presentation.

84. White Backgrounds Are Not Always Bad

Minimalist White Presentation Ideas

A lot of people think that plain white background is a boring presentation faux pas. So the first thing they do is add color or image, which is not a bad thing at all.

Modern Simple White Presentation Ideas

But I also think that when used correctly, like in this example, plain white backgrounds can lead to beautiful presentations.

85. Split The Header Text From The Body Text

Bold Purple Tech Presentation Ideas

This idea is very similar to the one-two punch tactic that I talked about above, but it spreads the content over two slides as opposed to a single slide.

Bold Orange Tech Presentation Ideas

Use this design choice when you have fairly easy to follow presentations, like the one below from Steve Young. I know that this is effective because it allows the audience to focus on the main point before he drives it home with the supporting details.

86. Feature Circle Image Frames

Black & White Presentation Ideas

I am a big fan of the design choices that Frank Delmelle uses in this slide deck about content strategy. He uses circles as his main design motif and frames his images in circles as well.

87. Talk Directly To Your Audience

Simple Gray Tech Presentation Ideas

This slideshow tops out at 70 slides but it’s a breeze to flip through. That’s because the creator, Ian Lurie, decided to present it in the form of a conversation instead of a classic slide deck.

While each slide only has one or two sentences, it flows just like a friendly chat. He also includes the necessary pauses, breaks and other conversational tics that helps make it even more convincing.

88. Illustrated Icons Are Key This Year

Illustrated Design Guide Presentation Ideas

Icons add a fun and functional element to your designs. In this presentation by Iryna Nezhynska, they use illustrated icons to make a potentially intimidating topic seem manageable.

89. Highlight Key Numbers and Percentages

Marketing Stats Presentation Ideas

Surprising percentages have the ability to excite and shock an audience. To make the percentages on your slides even more impactful, present them in a different color or font than the rest of the text.

Simple Data Driven Presentation Ideas

In the presentation example above, Contently uses that exact tactic to bring more attention to key numbers.

90. Use a Gradient as Your Presentation Background

Modern Gradient Business Presentation Ideas

Just like bold color schemes, gradients are a current social media graphic design trend . They may feel retro to some, but I believe they will be around well into the future.

Gradients are perfect for presentation backgrounds because they are so versatile and eye-catching. I mean, you can literally create a gradient with any colors you can think of! And they look a lot more interesting than a simple flat background.

So embrace the future and use a gradient in your next presentation!

91. Track The Steps In a Process

10 Tips Human Resources Presentation Ideas

In this example, the creators from O.C. Tanner add a very interesting feature to their slides, starting on slide number 6. If you take a look at this business presentation template, you will see that they number the steps in a process and track which step they’re on at the bottom of the slides.

92. Use Mind Blowing Font Pairings

Visual Communications Presentation Ideas

The creator of this slide deck uses at least 10 different types of fonts. And it looks fantastic because they know that one font choice is boring. But this does not mean that you should use a bunch of random fonts–pick font pairs that play well together and keep your font choices for different types of information consistent throughout the presentation.

93. Make Your Ideas As Obvious As Possible

White Tech Education Presentation Ideas

Your audience shouldn’t be guessing at what you mean. That is why I think that this presentation example from In a Rocket is so powerful because they make the information easy to digest.

White Simple Education Presentation Ideas

Learning to code can be challenging, but they break the information down with simple diagrams and clear examples. Heck, I have not touched CSS in a few years and I could still follow what they were instructing.

94. Use Images That Will Actually Scale

Modern Education Presentation Ideas

A large mistake that you can make in your slide deck is using low-quality images. They may look great on your computer, but as soon as the slides are put up on a screen, the low quality will show. In this example by ThoughtWorks, all of their presentation background images look great and will scale well to a bigger screen. And that is even after the image compression that LinkedIn most likely does!

95. Take Risks With Your Presentation Layout

Creative Illustrated Presentation Ideas

I honestly was blown away the first time I saw this presentation because it capitalized on such a risky design idea. The creators from Weekdone literally turned their presentation into an 8-Bit video game. A nd if you are looking for something that will stick with your audience, I would take a few creative cues from them!

96. Seriously, You Better Use Memes

Creative Data Driven Presentation Ideas

In this day and age memes are mainstream, so why wouldn’t you use them in a creative presentation? These do not have to be the coolest meme that all the hip kids are sharing, they can be some of the classics. Like the one that Dana DiTomaso uses on slide 16 to emphasize that it’s a trap!

97. Follow a Clear Design Rhythm

Ultra Minimalist Marketing Presentation Ideas

I really like how this presentation introduced each new point in three or four steps, using the same design. It gave the presentation a rhythm that flowed almost like a song!

White Minimalist Marketing Presentation Ideas

I would recommend using this approach if you have to introduce multiple points per slide.

98. Use LOTS Of Icons

Creative Project Management Presentation Ideas

If you have made it this far in the list you have already probably seen how effective icons are in presentations. They are the perfect way to support your ideas and make your presentation more pleasing to the eyes.

Illustrated Project Management Presentation Ideas

For example, take a look at all the icons SlideShop uses in this presentation. Almost every slide has at least one icon and a few have more than ten!

99. Give Each Slide Its Own Spark

Creative HR Presentation Ideas

I know this goes against earlier points I had about creating a cohesive theme in your presentation layout, but everyone knows that rules are made to be broken (if you can do it better)!

Illustrated Creative HR Presentation Ideas

In this slide deck, the team at Officevibe literally created different designs for all 27 of their slides. And to top it off, each of the designs fit the quotes they used extremely well.

100. Use LARGE Header Cards

Growth Hack Marketing Presentation Ideas

An easy way to stick to that “one piece of content on each slide rule” is to use header cards. They are basically the header that you would normally use in a blog post or article, but it gets is own slide before the content. Here is an example of that idea in the real world in this presentation from Brian Downard.

101. Ask Your Audience Questions

Creative Branding Presentation Idea

I think one of the most common elements I saw in all the slide decks was that they asked the audience questions. You can use questions to engage with your audience and get them thinking a bit harder about the topic. The Site By Norex team did an exceptional job of this when they explored what the topic of what makes up a brand.

Need some more info about creating a memorable brand? Check out some of the best branding stats for 2020 and beyond!

102. Introduce Yourself and Your Brand

Grey Tech Presentation Idea

I would say that a majority of presentations that I looked at in this list just jumped right into the content without an introduction to the author or brand in the actual slide deck.

This introduction is very important because it establishes your credentials from the beginning, especially if someone is just reading the slide deck. In this example from Losant, they do just that by spending the first few slides telling the audience who they are.

103. Mix Up Your Mediums

Creative Tips Presentation Ideas

Finally, this slide deck effectively marries two very distinct content forms together: digital images and hand-drawn illustrations. In this example, Freshdesk uses the timeless classic of a comic strip, Calvin & Hobbes, in something so modern to inform the audience in a fun way.

104. Show Off Your Credentials

Simple Tech Presentation Ideas

Just like with any piece of content, people are more likely to believe what you are saying if they know what your company does. That is why I really like when people insert their qualifications right into the presentation slides. Just like Andreas von der Heydt, from Amazon, did at the beginning of this presentation about thinking big.

105. Highlight Key Data Points

If you are presenting a chart or graph on a dry topic, I would recommend using a single color to highlight the most important data point. For example, the investment firm a16z uses orange to highlight the data points they want their audience to focus on in each of their charts.

Check out some examples of how to highlight your key information in bar charts .

106. Show Your Audience Where To Find More Information

Blue Futuristic Presentation Idea

A lot of people end their presentations by literally just running out of slides, and that is the wrong way to do it. Instead, CBInsights consistently pushes their readers towards another piece of content at the end. This is also where you can insert a call to action!

107. Tell Your Origin Story

Blue Marketing Presentation Ideas

  Source

This idea is kinda similar to showing off your company qualifications at the beginning of your presentation. But with this approach, you are trying to make an emotional connection with your audience instead of just showing off accolades.

White Marketing Presentation Ideas

And Rand from Moz does this extremely well in the presentation example above.

108. Use One Focused Visual

Modern Tech Presentation Ideas

This presentation uses a central visual of a structure, with each slide moving down the levels of the structure. This is incredibly powerful because the entire presentation is about sinking your company, and the visual they designed mirrors that idea perfectly. Using one focus visual also makes your slide deck design cohesive.

109. Don’t Take Presentation Design Too Seriously

Retro Creative Presentation Ideas2

Sometimes we get caught up trying to make the perfect presentation and it ends up making us crazy!

Retro Creative Presentation Ideas1

But in this presentation example, Jesse Desjardins uses a mix of wit and hilarious retro images to create a memorable and light-hearted presentation.

110. Use Size To Your Advantage

Blue Startup Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

I am a big fan of using bubble charts and other charts that use size to compare two pieces of data. That is why I like this pitch deck from the ShearShare team that utilizes a size-based chart on slide number 9. The chart is used to illustrate the massive growth potential in their industry.

111. Split Section Headers From The Main Content With Different Background Colors

Design Presentation Ideas1

In this presentation, Seth Familian uses alternating colors in a very interesting way. For each of the title slides, he uses a black color background, but for the content slides he uses a white background.

Design Presentation Ideas2

This helped the readers follow along and comprehend what was on the page even faster. And when you are presenting to hundreds of different types of people, this can make or break your presentation.

112.  Have A Conversation With Your Audience

Creative Marketing Presentation Ideas

Take a conversational tone in your presentation is a great way to encourage your audience to participate.

In this slide deck example, we presented a simple storyline and use questions to engage with the audience throughout. And it helped create a flow throughout the  presentation template  that is easy to follow.

113.  Include Your Branding Throughout Your Presentation Ideas

Hubspot Marketing Presentation Idea

Another thing that people seem to forget when they are working on a presentation is to include their business’s branding. You honestly never know where your work is going to be shared, so it is important to make sure people know it’s yours. HubSpot does an outstanding job of this on all their presentations, as you can see in the bottom left corner of each slide.

Plus you have spent a ton of time creating your  brand guidelines , might as well use them.

114.  Include Multiple Slides To Build To Your Main Point

Creative Art Presentation Ideas

Try using multiple slides to build to your main point. This helps you walk through the components of one overarching point while also building suspense. In this slide deck, the creator uses 6 slides to build up to one main point, adding a new illustration to the diagram on each slide.

115.  Split The Difference

Apple Tech Presentation Ideas

Use either the left or right side of the slide to hold your text and the opposite to display an image. If you are using a photo or graphic as the main background in your slides, this is a great way to keep things organized.

116. There Are Millions Of Fonts Out There…Use Them

Modern Nonprofit Presentation Ideas

Hey, I love simple fonts just as much as the next guy, but sometimes you need to step up your font game to stand out. For example, WebVisions uses a very gritty, probably custom font in their unique presentation that fits the topic extremely well. Take a look!

117.  Build Your Presentation Content Around Icons

Illustrated Health Presentation Ideas

Try using icons as the focal points of your presentation layout. This example from Omer Hameed  uses icons to draw the audience’s eyes  right to the middle of the presentation, where the main points and headers are located.

118.  Mix Up Font Style To Emphasize Important Points

SEO Marketing Presentation Ideas

If you would like to draw some extra attention to a certain word or idea,  switch up the font  to one that is bolder. For example, in this oldie but goodie presentation from HubSpot they use a heavy sans-serif font to highlight ideas, as opposed to the serif font for the other text.

119.  Add Personal Touches To Your Presentation

Simple Creative Design Presentation Ideas

If you want to create a truly unique presentation, add personal touches. In the slide numbers 6-13 from this presentation, the creator adds something to their design that no one else could ever have: they use original drawings they did themselves.

120.  Harness the Power of Your Own Brand Colors

Modern White Digital Marketing Presentation Ideas

Sometimes people forget that they already have a battle-tested color palette that they can use in their  brand colors . I try to incorporate one of our brand colors in most of my designs and it makes so much easier to choose colors.

In this simple presentation example, Spitfire Creative used a palette that had both of their brand colors throughout the slideshow.

121.  Used Dark-Colored Blocks to Highlight Words

Bold Yellow Marketing Presentation Ideas

I have seen this trick used in a lot of presentations and it works well. Highlight certain words or phrases by laying them overtop a colored rectangle. Take slide number 7 in this presentation example as a great guide. Use it to bring attention to a saying or idea you really want your audience to remember.

122.  Show The Audience Your Mug

Content Marketing Presentation Ideas

This presentation example comes from the same presentation as a previous one, but it was too good not to share. Throughout the slides, you will see Rand from Moz pop up to add a human element to the design. Using an image of your team or yourself can put the audience at ease and make it easier to connect with the presenter.

123.  Include A Helpful Table Of Contents

Facebook Marketing Presentation IDeas

I only saw this presentation idea used a few times throughout my research, but I believe it should be used a lot more. A table of contents will help the audience know what to expect and keep their focus throughout. Especially if you are creating a presentation that is a bit longer than normal.

124.  Do Not Post Just Screenshots, Do More

Tech Pitch Deck Presentation Ideas

Screenshots of a program or app are very common in any blog post, but I think you can do a little better when it comes to presentations.

So instead of just posting a boring screenshot, add a little more to the slide by using illustrations and product shots. If you are not sure what I am talking about, just check out how great the screenshots look at slide numbers 7 and 8 in this presentation.

125. Highlight Keywords Using BOLD Color

Lifestyle Presentation Ideas

Here’s another slide deck that uses different colors and blocks to highlight keywords. If you are going to use text-heavy slides, then make sure the key points are easy to pick out. Take this slide deck: starting in slide number 4, they highlight exactly what they want you to take away from the text on each slide!

7 Creative Ideas To Make Your Employee Onboarding Amazing

Updated 2020

There are always tips and shortcuts you can use to give your new hires the best experience possible. The best tips are the ones that are truly unique to your organisation.

Of course, the most important time to focus on the employee experience is during onboarding.

There are any number of ways you can make your employee onboarding process an amazing, unforgettable experience. In fact, we covered that in our onboarding best practices guide.

Here are the ways you can make your onboarding experience stand out, becoming as memorable as possible:

  • 1. Give Your New Employees Mad Swag

2. Give new hires a chance to unwind before starting

3. make the first day feel memorable, 4. incentivise new hires to leave, 5. connect your new hire with the team before day 1, 6. nail the essentials of structured onboarding, 7. put it all together.

Here are 7 great ideas to make the onboarding experience memorable:

1. Give Your New Employees Mad Swag.

Whether it’s a voucher to a nearby restaurant with sentimental value, or a cool bit of gear for them to use, everyone loves getting a welcome gift.

It can be something weird that has an anecdotal attachment to the organisation, or something of cultural significance to the team. Let the new hire in on the joke so they feel like part of the team.

Gifts for new hires can be a great way to introduce your office culture. Just take a look at how Facebook and Google do it. Senior management may value healthy lifestyles or time spent with family. New hires can be given gifts relating back to either of these lifestyles.

It will be up to your team to decide what you give new employees. Perhaps everyone at work prefers eating, and a voucher for a nearby cafe that does good coffee is more appropriate than a pen.

TIP At HROnboard we like to introduce new employees to our arcade machine on Day 1 so they can try to beat the office high scores. We also like to unleash the inner artist and decorate the new hires desk with an eclectic mix of fun things!

incentivise your new employees to leave

We know – it sounds crazy.

This tactic made headlines for Zappos across the world. Zappos offers their new hires $4000 to leave after a couple of months into their new position.

The logic behind the payout offer is that Zappos only wants employees who enjoy being at work. Offering to pay employees to leave filters out any bad hires that only want to be there for the money. It is important to create a process to actively filter out employees who are not engaged in their new role.

The best way to prevent new employees from taking up your exit offer is to make your workplace the best it can be. Give employees a reason to work for you and they will pass on the offer to leave every time – and they’re definitely going to remember why they made the decision to stay!

TIP Probation management and consistent communication is key. At HROnboard we ensure all team leaders have a weekly check-in with new hires. Our tip is to keep it casual (go for coffee) as this helps foster authentic communication.

One of the biggest questions new hires have when they start is “who will I be working with?”

Remove the uncertainty and stress by connecting your new hires to their new colleagues before they start. You can do this with a physical meet-and-greet, but it’s usually easier to do this digitally by connecting on LinkedIn or Facebook (depending on how your team members currently stay connected online).

Even something as simple as a text message from a few colleagues can be enough to make your new hires feel welcome.

connecting with your new team members on your first day

TIP At HROnboard all new hires get added into our office slack channels so that employees can easily welcome them to the team.

structured onboarding basics

We know that boring paperwork comes with the process of onboarding a new hire.

Its best to use a structured onboarding program that manages the tasks for both the hiring manager and new hire during the induction period. It’s easiest to do this using employee onboarding software, but you can use our employee onboarding checklist in the meantime.

Create your list of tasks, for both current employees and new hires, in your program. It will be up to you what goes into the task list, as requirements for when a new hire starts varies from company to company. Having a comprehensive task list makes onboarding fluid and gives you more time to focus on making onboarding a fun experience.

TIP Make this list as comprehensive as possible. Include everything you can think of, and add to it over time.

You still need to be able to follow the paperwork for onboarding new hires properly. The maddest swag or the most fun first day can be undone by an unsigned form that stops an employee from getting paid.

Follow our steps on creating employee contract templates to make sure your paperwork is in order. Sorting out your paperwork early gives you more time to enjoy cocktails at lunch with your new hire.

9 Creative Ideas To Make New Employee Orientation A Success

You are here, reading this article, which means you already know a bit about the importance of Employee orientation. Let’s try to put that in numbers to make sure everyone understands how important it is to get your new employee orientation right.

A Bersin by Deloitte study shows that without the right new hire orientation, you can lose 4% of your employees in the first month, and worse, about 22% before the first 90 days.

So, now that we have established it is very important to have an outstanding new hire orientation, we are here to help you with it.

There are a bunch of things you can do innovatively to give your new hires a kick-ass first day at their new company. Make it memorable, exceptional, and make them the personal ambassadors of your company by Day 1.

Let’s jump right into the 9 creative employee orientation ideas you can implement in your company.

1. Give Thoughtful and Personalized Swags

Swags are not a new idea in the new hire employee orientation ideas universe. However, what you give as swags is important. As much as it tempts you to buy a diary and pen with your logo and call it a day on the swags department, stop and think for a moment.

What would a new hire ideally need in their new job?

  • A pocketbook to take quick notes and carry around
  • Water bottle
  • A file/folder to keep all their documents and papers safely
  • A backpack to keep their new laptop
  • A small stationery kit – with paperclips, sticky notes/post-its, stapler, highlighter pens, etc.,
  • Laptop Stickers that represent your company cultures – like your logo or vision message
  • A Coffee Mug

These are just some amazing swags I got from my company, you can personalize them however you like. For example, if you are a shoe company, you might give your new employee a pair of your best shoes, no better way to make them feel connected with the brand, am I right?

2. Arrange Dates

One of the biggest mistakes you can make in your new hire orientation is letting your new hire have lunch or first meal in the office alone. I mean, first days are a bit tough for a new hire as it is, to top it off if your new hire has to find the cafeteria and the trick to use the broken sauce machine without spilling you are just making them second guess everything.

Do not think your new hire will find a lunch buddy of her own, that is too unfair to assume because not everyone is good at striking a conversation with strangers and going to lunch with them.

So, if you can arrange dates for your new hire, preferably with a small team who they will work with at their role, it would be a great new hire orientation idea. If the new hire is part of the marketing team, ask folks from the team to catch up with the new hire, and take them to breaks or lunch or dinner.

3. Make their Desk meaningful

The last thing you should make your new hire do on their first day is clear out the unwanted stuff of some previous employee and pry through their stuff to clean the drawer and keep their own stuff.

Get a clean desk ready for your new hire, put up a “Welcome Harry” sign for Harry to easily find and smile as he sees his desk. You can even maybe put out some swags here as a friendly gesture. A filled water bottle, a small stationery kit waiting for him at the desk along with his coffee mug are small yet powerful things that will make your new hire feel good.

Pro Tip: If you can, find out what your new hire likes the most – Elephants? Toblerone? Plants? Keep a bar of Toblerone next to the welcome sign or a small elephant desk toy.

4. Create a moment of WOW

When I joined Freshworks, I got a brand new Apple MacBook Pro in the box, wrapped, and everything as my work system. Not only was I a bit scared to use such an expensive system, but I was also in a moment of WOW. Now, this was not part of their new hire orientation idea, just something they follow as a company norm, to create moments of wow.

Only the first day and you have the most powerful system in your hands for you to take with you. It will make you go wow, right? Yes. So, do something like that for your employees too.

It does not have to be a MacBook, it can be the latest smartwatch or an exquisite pen, anything you know will create a moment of WOW in your new hire.

5. Get the story behind the person

So, usually, you tell the team they have someone new joining and ask them to say Hi. With endless names popping and saying a customary Hi, the new hire will not even register or remember anything about anybody.

However, if you can put a story about the new hire to your entire team, the connection will be stronger. Get pictures of your new hire, get their story, including details about their native place, their school, college, their past work experience, their hobbies, and weird likes, etc in the story.

This way everyone in the team can know about the new hire on a personal level, can connect on something they have in common with the new hire, and begin conversations using that which will leave lasting impressions.

6. Skip the office tour, make it a treasure hunt

You can still take the new hire on a quick tour of the office, show where the cafeteria and restrooms are, and then take them to their desk as part of your new hire orientation idea.

You can make the office tour a game of treasure hunt. Give clues to each place, like,

“You get your energy to work from here, but you cannot work here,” – can be a clue to find the cafeteria on their own.

If there is a famous painting or poster on any important part of your office, give a clue to that and make them find that place, this will help them remember these places well and also during the whole running around, bump into people and make new friends.

7. Take them to Team Dinner

If not on the first day, at least in the first week, if not with the entire team, at least with the small team they would work with.

It is one thing to have lunch at the office, but a whole other thing to go to a nice restaurant for dinner. You get to know about a person so much from going to a restaurant with them, and especially dinners are when people are more at ease and themselves.

It will help everyone know the new hire better, and the new hire can know everyone well too.

8. Play a friendly game of any sport

Most offices have some game. Carrom or Foosball or any board game, some are extra, with rock climbing, table tennis, cricket or even football ground.

Whatever you have in your office, take your new hire for a friendly game with a small bunch and make them familiar with the chill routine of the office. It will help the new hire calm some of that first-day jitters and also bond better with the team.

9. Make the Orientation about the Employee

It is easy to get carried away and talk non-stop about the company, its culture and values, and vision. As much as it is important to tell all this to your new hire, it should not be one-sided.

Your new hire already knows your company is good, which is why he or she joined it. So, cut short the whole talk about the company and make the orientation about the new employee. Include their stories, or engage them in activities and conversations with the important people of your company, where they get to interact, ask their questions, and also know about the company.

Do not stack back-to-back lecture sessions, that’s all. Live a little.

Now that you have these amazing new hire orientation ideas at your fingertips, all you need to do is get started on the orientation process.

If it gets overwhelming to remember all this while you take care of the endless paperwork and formalities, it means you need a smart onboarding/orientation software that can automate most of your processes, giving you more time to come with great ideas for your orientation. (Which you can share with us in the comments section).

21 HR video ideas to engage your team (+ templates!)

21 HR video ideas to engage your team

You’ve heard the buzz. Video is the next big thing in HR, and for good reason. HR videos engage teams and attract new hires far better than static comms. But despite all the buzz, it’s tough to come up with video ideas from scratch.

How can I make my  videos for HR  interesting to employees? How do I create a recruiting video that gets attention on social media? And most of all: where do I get good HR video ideas in the first place? I’m an HR manager, not a videographer after all.

Our list of 21 HR video ideas (and templates!) is designed to get you started in no time. It includes ideas for recruiting, training, announcements, social media videos for HR, and more.

After this list gets the creative juices flowing, head over to the Biteable  all-in-one video maker  for hundreds more workplace-ready templates and brandable video scenes.

HR video ideas for recruiting and hiring

Recruiting and hiring is one of our favorite ways to use HR videos.

Recruiting and hiring requires a lot of one-way communication. New and prospective hires need to get a whole lot of information fast.

Incorporating videos into your recruiting and hiring helps people easily get the info they need in an engaging format that elevates your company above the crowd.

1. Recruitment ad

Attracting new applicants is one of those human resources responsibilities that almost requires the creativity of a marketing department.

A recruiting video makes your job posting stand out in a sea of written job descriptions. Even the simplest recruiting video conveys job requirements and company culture in a memorable way.

In short, HR video makes your recruitment outreach work like gangbusters. Most job boards even support videos in job postings. You can also upload a recruiting video to your company YouTube channel and add the link to your written job description.

2. You’re hired!

A hiring letter is nice, But a video is far more personal. Seeing a face and hearing a voice from your company creates an immediate connection with new hires and sets the tone from day one.

Use this HR video template to create hiring videos for every new team member, even during the biggest hiring booms.

3. New team member welcome

Video is the perfect way to welcome new staff and introduce them to their team members. Use pictures and video clips to give new hires a first look at their future colleagues and help break the ice before their first day of work.

Start with a customizable template and wrap up your welcome video before your coffee cools.

Video ideas for HR on social media

When it comes to recruiting, putting your HR videos on social media is a must.

Each time you hire for a new position, blast your recruiting ad video far and wide. But don’t stop there. These next two HR video ideas help you keep an eye on the long game and generate buzz about your company all year round.

4. Company mission statement

Your company mission statement helps potential hires understand the larger purpose and potential they’ll gain by joining your company. Your mission statement video could be just the thing that sets you apart for top candidates.

Blast the video on social media, include it in your formal recruitment, and make it available again during onboarding so new employees are reminded of their value at every step of the way.

5. What it’s like here

A “what it’s like here” video is another HR social media darling. Use it early in the recruiting process to show potential candidates the office or facility where they’ll work, who they’ll work with, and what their typical day might be like.

This type of HR video works best if it’s infused with personality. Give potential hires a sense of office culture and help them envision themselves working for your company.

As an alternative, prepare new employees for their first day of work by sending your video after they’re hired. Give them a quick tour of their workspace so they don’t feel lost when they arrive, or let them know more about the company structure and how they fit in.

Human resources video ideas for onboarding

Video is a great fit for onboarding, especially in remote or hybrid workplaces . Include a few thoughtful HR videos during onboarding to help new employees get up and running quickly and efficiently, no matter where they’re located.

6. New employee introduction

Employees will be curious about the new face in the office. Send a quick video introduction to give them a heads up and make the first day easy for your new hire.

Keep your video quick and relevant. A one minute video is more than enough to show people what position the new staffer holds and who they’ll be working with directly. Be sure to include a picture of the new employee, so your current staff knows who to greet.

7. Meet the team

The new employee wants to know about their team as much as the team wants to know about them. An engaging video lets new employees know who they’ll be working with and what everyone does at work.

This helps new employees get oriented before they even show up on their first day. When the new hire walks in the door, they’ll already know who’s going to help them hit the ground running.

Gather a few pictures, short bios, and a meet the team template. Put it all together onto a short, fun video and you’re ready to make some fabulous introductions.

8. Work behavior guidelines

These sorts of formalities tend to be tedious because the guidelines are packed into one of the most laborious pieces of documentation out there: an employee handbook.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. A short video covers all the bases, reduces printing costs, and is more engaging and memorable than a traditional handbook.

You can also embed your video in an email, so employees have it whenever they need it, wherever they are, without cluttering their workstation.

9. How to set up your work tools

New employees may need help setting up their accounts on your system, understanding how to change their passwords, or using certain software tools. Send quick instructional videos to prevent new employees a lot of headaches, and save the IT department from fielding zillions of questions.

Create videos for all your tools — Slack, Notion, Jira, and anything else — so new teammates can get their workstations online quickly and settle into more important business.

10. How to contact HR

Even after your new hire is humming along, they’ll still need help from their HR team now and then. Leave them with a quick video about how to get in touch with you, should they need it.

Save your “how to contact HR” video to all the company computers, so employees can find it any time they need.

Pro tip:  If you make your HR videos with Biteable, you can also post your video on all of your comms channels with a single,  trackable link .

HR video ideas for training and company policy

Training isn’t just for new employees. Long-time staff need continuing education and ongoing training to stay up-to-date. Save everyone time (including yourself) with  HR training  videos.

11. Key trainings

Every company has unique procedures and tasks that employees need to complete every day. But it’s hard to remember all this new information during the first few weeks of employment.

Create a series of videos explaining how to perform core tasks quickly. A video format helps employees learn and retain the information more thoroughly. Plus, these videos serve as quick references if anyone needs a refresh.

Set up an internal page for key training videos so managers and staff have easy access whenever they need it.

12. Employee wellness initiatives

Microtraining  videos are one of the best ways to help employees acquire new skills and implement new practices.

Microtrainings are also a perfect fit for employee wellness initiatives, because the format presents wellness in small bites that feel easy to accomplish.

Create simple, short videos giving employees tiny lessons that help them stay healthy or be more productive, on and off the clock. Larger blocks of information — such as company wide-wellness programs — can also be broken down into microtrainings to make the information easier to absorb.

13. Soft skills trainings

Video is an effective way to help employees gain the soft skills they need to move into higher positions.

Topics like leadership and managerial skills might not be part of your new employee training program, and employees probably don’t have much time to attend external trainings on these subjects.

Instead, create a series of videos for employees interested in supervisory positions. Keep each video short and focused so they can easily fit these trainings into their work day or lunch break.

Not an expert on video trainings? No problem. Build onto a template to keep your training videos focused and informative.

14. Company policy videos

If there’s anything HR professionals know about, it’s fielding questions about company policies. There are leave policies, healthcare policies, benefits packages, and more. And employees expect human resources to have all the answers.

These questions might seem straightforward, but answering them eats up a lot of your time. Use a template to quickly create a series of videos that deliver immediate answers to the most important company policies.

Just like your key training videos, host these all on one internal page for easy access. Employees get straightforward answers delivered with a personal tone, and for many, this is all they need.

Set yourself up for success and watch your email inbox shrink as more and more people find their policy answers the easy way.

15. Quick kudos

Quick kudos videos are a great way to recognize a job well done.

Think of quick kudos like a video fist bump. You don’t have to reserve them for monumental successes. Instead, quickly send kudos videos for just about any job well done.

Even better, make kudos videos a natural part of company culture by encouraging department managers to create their own kudos videos. Set up a template, then use Biteable’s team features to empower managers to DIY.

16. Outstanding achievement awards

Did the sales team hit a major company goal? Did a marketing staff absolutely knock their most recent project out of the park? Maybe you had an office competition, so there’s an actual award to give out. That’s the time to break out your outstanding achievement award video.

But just because the award is for outstanding achievement doesn’t mean you need to spend an outstanding amount of time on it. Pop your company colors and award-specific text into a template to make an award-winning video in just a few minutes.

17. Pay increase congratulations

Getting a raise feels great. Receiving recognition for all the hard work it takes to get a raise is also nice. How about using a friendly video for all of your pay raise notifications?

The personal touch is guaranteed to make staff feel acknowledged and appreciated for their work. In terms of employee satisfaction, that feeling is worth its weight in gold.

18. Employee appreciation

We humans like feeling appreciated. As you already know, regular employee appreciation boosts morale and fosters a positive company culture. But don’t wait until your quarterly all-staff to dole out the praise.

Use video to make employee appreciation a regular part of office life.

A simple video is a great way to spread appreciation around the company with just a single email. Or put a series of appreciation videos on the screen in a common area. You could even start a Slack channel dedicated entirely to staff praise.

Regardless of how you deliver your appreciation videos, there’s never a bad time to thank employees for all they do.

Human resources videos for announcements and events

It often falls on the HR department to send out event invitations and announcements, or to distribute reports and presentations. You could put up a poster in the break room. But an HR video is far more fun and attention-getting.

19. C-suite updates

You may be familiar with  Jeff Bezos’s yearly letter to shareholders . Your company may have a similar yearly tradition. Or the upper management may prefer to distribute even more frequent communications to employees. Either way, why not use video?

Many executives are more comfortable speaking than they are writing. And video gives employees an opportunity to see someone from upper management speaking to them, often in a less formal tone than they might use at a major meeting.

Pro tip:  Capture first-person video footage of company execs using Biteable’s  record  feature. Record footage without leaving the app and add the clips to any video with the click of a button, no uploads required.

20. Holiday announcements

If you host company holiday events, you need people to show up. Use video to give people all the important details in a memorable format.

The tone of your event announcement gives a preview of the tone for the event. So if you want to convey fun and a chance for employees to let down their hair, keep the invite lighthearted.

Pop in a few scenes of stock footage that fit the tone of your event, and consider including an upbeat soundtrack to get people in the party mood.

Or, use video to send your people home early for the holidays so they can start celebrating with their friends and family.

Need a video for another holiday? Check out these other event video templates.

21. Regular reports

Company reports and updates can be a bit dry. But not everybody needs the written reports. Some people may just be interested in the progress and direction of the company, especially in businesses with profit-sharing plans and revenue-based bonus programs.

Video is the perfect way to make these reports quick and engaging. But, between monthly, quarterly, annual, and all the other company updates, you could end up cranking out quite a few company update videos.

Set yourself up for success with a video template. Keep one template on hand for each type of report, then update it each time with the relevant data and visuals.

You’ll have an attention-getting report ready and waiting well before the next update is due.

Why you need HR video templates

HR video templates are a critical piece of human resources video production.

Templates take care of all the storyboarding and video planning, so you can focus on making videos quickly. That way you can handle everything from executive messaging to employee work anniversaries with videos that are easy to make and fun to watch.

That’s why we’ve included an  HR template  with each of our human resources video ideas. Use these ideas and templates to get your HR video production going before the end of the day.

FAQ: All things video and HR

Everything you ever wanted to know about video for HR.

What is an HR video?

An HR video is any video that helps HR managers, people ops, and recruiters engage and activate current teams and potential candidates. Examples of HR videos include:

  • Hiring videos
  • Onboarding videos
  • Video training
  • Policy overview videos
  • Announcement videos
  • Leadership update videos

How can HR use social media?

HR can use social media videos as a recruiting tool.  LinkedIn video posts  get 3x more engagement than text-based posts, but many HR teams haven’t yet adopted video as a social media strategy. It’s still relatively easy to stand out and generate interest with content like job posting videos and company culture videos.

How can I make HR more interesting?

One of our favorite ideas for making HR more interesting is to include fun videos in your employee communications. Short HR videos pack a lot of information into just a few minutes. The engaging format holds people’s interest better than text-based comms. People also remember information better with video than with text.

How do you engage a team with video?

Here are three of our favorite ideas for engaging a team with video:

  • Recognition videos:  Create short, personalized videos recognizing team members for a job well done.
  • New hire videos:  Encourage new hires to make a video introducing themselves to the team.
  • Leadership updates:  Put a human face on leadership updates.

CDC plans to drop five-day covid isolation guidelines

new employee presentation ideas

Americans who test positive for the coronavirus no longer need to routinely stay home from work and school for five days under new guidance planned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The agency is loosening its covid isolation recommendations for the first time since 2021 to align it with guidance on how to avoid transmitting flu and RSV, according to four agency officials and an expert familiar with the discussions.

CDC officials acknowledged in internal discussions and in a briefing last week with state health officials how much the covid-19 landscape has changed since the virus emerged four years ago, killing nearly 1.2 million people in the United States and shuttering businesses and schools. The new reality — with most people having developed a level of immunity to the virus because of prior infection or vaccination — warrants a shift to a more practical approach, experts and health officials say.

“Public health has to be realistic,” said Michael T. Osterholm, an infectious-disease expert at the University of Minnesota. “In making recommendations to the public today, we have to try to get the most out of what people are willing to do. … You can be absolutely right in the science and yet accomplish nothing because no one will listen to you.”

The CDC plans to recommend that people who test positive for the coronavirus use clinical symptoms to determine when to end isolation. Under the new approach, people would no longer need to stay home if they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medication and their symptoms are mild and improving, according to three agency officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share internal discussions.

Here is the current CDC guidance on isolation and precautions for people with covid-19

The federal recommendations follow similar moves by Oregon and California . The White House has yet to sign off on the guidance that the agency is expected to release in April for public feedback, officials said. One agency official said the timing could “move around a bit” until the guidance is finalized.

Work on revising isolation guidance has been underway since last August but was paused in the fall as covid cases rose. CDC director Mandy Cohen sent staff a memo in January that listed “Pan-resp guidance-April” as a bullet point for the agency’s 2024 priorities.

Officials said they recognized the need to give the public more practical guidelines for covid-19, acknowledging that few people are following isolation guidance that hasn’t been updated since December 2021. Back then, health officials cut the recommended isolation period for people with asymptomatic coronavirus from 10 days to five because they worried essential services would be hobbled as the highly transmissible omicron variant sent infections surging. The decision was hailed by business groups and slammed by some union leaders and health experts.

Covid is here to stay. How will we know when it stops being special?

The plan to further loosen isolation guidance when the science around infectiousness has not changed is likely to prompt strong negative reaction from vulnerable groups, including people older than 65, those with weak immune systems and long-covid patients, CDC officials and experts said.

Doing so “sweeps this serious illness under the rug,” said Lara Jirmanus, a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School and a member of the People’s CDC, a coalition of health-care workers, scientists and advocates focused on reducing the harmful effects of covid-19.

Public health officials should treat covid differently from other respiratory viruses, she said, because it’s deadlier than the flu and increases the risk of developing long-term complications . As many as 7 percent of Americans report having suffered from a slew of lingering covid symptoms, including fatigue, difficulty breathing, brain fog, joint pain and ongoing loss of taste and smell, according to the CDC.

The new isolation recommendations would not apply to hospitals and other health-care settings with more vulnerable populations, CDC officials said.

While the coronavirus continues to cause serious illness, especially among the most vulnerable people, vaccines and effective treatments such as Paxlovid are available. The latest versions of coronavirus vaccines were 54 percent effective at preventing symptomatic infection in adults, according to data released Feb. 1, the first U.S. study to assess how well the shots work against the most recent coronavirus variant. But CDC data shows only 22 percent of adults and 12 percent of children had received the updated vaccine as of Feb. 9, despite data showing the vaccines provide robust protection against serious illness .

Coronavirus levels in wastewater i ndicate that symptomatic and asymptomatic infections remain high. About 20,000 people are still hospitalized — and about 2,300 are dying — every week, CDC data show. But the numbers are falling and are much lower than when deaths peaked in January 2021 when almost 26,000 people died of covid each week and about 115,000 were hospitalized.

The lower rates of hospitalizations were among the reasons California shortened its five-day isolation recommendation last month , urging people to stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours and their symptoms are mild and improving. Oregon made a similar move last May.

California’s state epidemiologist Erica Pan said the societal disruptions that resulted from strict isolation guidelines also helped spur the change. Workers without sick leave and those who can’t work from home if they or their children test positive and are required to isolate bore a disproportionate burden. Strict isolation requirements can act as a disincentive to test when testing should be encouraged so people at risk for serious illness can get treatment, she said.

Giving people symptom-based guidance, similar to what is already recommended for flu, is a better way to prioritize those most at risk and balance the potential for disruptive impacts on schools and workplaces, Pan said. After Oregon made its change, the state has not experienced any disproportionate increases in community transmission or severity, according to data shared last month with the national association representing state health officials.

California still recommends people with covid wear masks indoors when they are around others for 10 days after testing positive — even if they have no symptoms — or becoming sick. “You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart,” the California guidance states.

It’s not clear whether the updated CDC guidance will continue to recommend masking for 10 days.

Health officials from other states told the CDC last week that they are already moving toward isolation guidelines that would treat the coronavirus the same as flu and RSV, with additional precautions for people at high risk, said Anne Zink, an emergency room physician and Alaska’s chief medical officer.

Many other countries, including the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Australia, made changes to isolation recommendations in 2022. Of 16 countries whose policies California officials reviewed, only Germany and Ireland still recommend isolation for five days, according to a presentation the California public health department gave health officials from other states in January. The Singapore ministry of health, in updated guidance late last year, said residents could “return to normal activities” once coronavirus symptoms resolve.

Even before the Biden administration ended the public health emergency last May, much of the public had moved on from covid-19, with many people having long given up testing and masking, much less isolating when they come down with covid symptoms.

Doctors say the best way for sick people to protect their communities is to mask or avoid unnecessary trips outside the home.

“You see a lot of people with symptoms — you don’t know if they have covid or influenza or RSV — but in all three of those cases, they probably shouldn’t be at Target, coughing, and looking sick,” said Eli Perencevich, an internal medicine professor at the University of Iowa.

Coronavirus: What you need to know

New covid variant: The United States is in the throes of another covid-19 uptick and coronavirus samples detected in wastewater suggests infections could be as rampant as they were last winter. JN.1, the new dominant variant , appears to be especially adept at infecting those who have been vaccinated or previously infected. Here’s how this covid surge compares with earlier spikes .

Covid ER visits rise: Covid-19, flu and RSV are rebounding in the United States ahead of the end-of-year holidays, with emergency room visits for the three respiratory viruses collectively reaching their highest levels since February.

New coronavirus booster: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that anyone 6 months or older get an updated coronavirus shot , but the vaccine rollout has seen some hiccups , especially for children . Here’s what you need to know about the new coronavirus vaccines , including when you should get it.
