This Minecraft tutorial explains how to switch to Creative mode with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

Creative is a game mode that is available in all versions of Minecraft. Creative mode gives you unlimited resources, free flying and lets you destroy blocks instantly when mining. When you create a world in Minecraft, you can easily switch back and forth between Survival and Creative modes using the /gamemode command.

Let's explore how to switch the game mode to Creative using the /gamemode command.

Creative mode is one of the main game modes in Minecraft . It strips away the survival aspects of Minecraft and allows players to easily create and destroy structures and mechanisms with the inclusion of an infinite use of blocks and flying . It also changes some of the background music , Creative mode also allows creativity, as people made many redstone builds and amazing things.

Gameplay [ ]

Fly

A player flying in Creative mode.

In Creative mode, players have no visible health or hunger bar to hamper their building since they are invincible (though it is still possible to eat). Creative mode allows players to destroy all blocks instantly (including normally indestructible blocks such as bedrock , end portal frames , etc.), provided they are not holding a sword , trident or debug stick ‌ [ JE only ] . However, these blocks are not dropped and must be obtained from the Creative inventory , or by using pick block on the block.

When continuously holding destroy to break blocks in Creative mode, there is a 6 game tick (0.3 second) cooldown between each block broken. This is distinct from instant mining in Survival mode, where one block can be broken every game tick (0.05 second). This cooldown can be bypassed by rapidly clicking the destroy button, allowing blocks to be broken as quickly as the player clicks.

Creative mode gives players the ability to fly . To activate flying, double tap the jump key. Use the jump key to go up and the sneak key to go down and the movement keys (the default is W A S D ) to move. The player can disable flying in mid-air by double-tapping jump again, causing them to drop to the ground. Touching the ground when flying disables flying in Java Edition , but not in Bedrock Edition . Getting into a minecart , or bed does not disable flying. However, getting into a boat or riding a mob such a a pig , llama , horse , donkey , mule , skeleton horse , strider , trader llama or camel will disable flying.

Players in Creative mode are unable to receive damage from the vast majority of sources. In Java Edition , going too far into the void still kills the player; however, in Bedrock Edition , the player is also immune to this (they are stopped by an invisible barrier that exists in all three dimensions). The player can fly around in the void provided they do not descend more than 64 blocks below the bottom of the dimension . The void, the / kill and / damage commands and external editors are the only way to die in Creative mode.‌ [ Java Edition only ] Creative players in Bedrock Edition are completely invulnerable, just like in Spectator mode. [ verify ]

Mobs still spawn as they do in other game modes, unless the difficulty is Peaceful or when the game rule doMobSpawning is set to false , but all are passive toward the players (even if they stare at the player in strange ways). If the player enters the End while in Creative mode, the ender dragon still attempts to attack the player, but cannot cause any harm.‌ [ Java Edition only ] Zombies summoned by others calling for backup attempt to attack the player, but they still cause no harm, and they stop attacking after several seconds. The player can still ignite creepers with a flint and steel or fire charge .

Once a world is created, if cheats are enabled, the game mode can be manually changed to Creative (or other game modes) with either the / gamemode command, specifically by typing / gamemode creative , or the game mode switcher ( F3  +  F4 ). In multiplayer , players can be individually changed between game modes with the / gamemode command available to operators . This means that individual players can play Creative mode (at the operator's discretion) on a Survival map, or vice-versa. The default game mode for new players can also be changed with the / defaultgamemode command.

If it is possible for the game to determine that a block was broken by the player, it does not drop (exceptions being shulker boxes and beehives if they have non-default NBT data). If the game cannot unambiguously determine how a block broke, the block drops. [1] Mobs killed by the player in Creative still drop items, but most other entities do not. Containers also drop their contents when broken. A notable exception to the no drops rule is the minecart , which, if renamed, drops itself as an item. [2]

In Bedrock Edition , creating a new flat world is always opened in Creative mode. Opening a new Creative world or opening an existing world in Creative permanently disables achievements , trophies, and leaderboard updates for that particular game, but has no other effects on gameplay . In other words, achievements, trophies, and leaderboard updates work only in games that have always been in Survival.

Players in Creative have a longer reach for placing, destroying, and attacking than in Survival.

In Creative, the normal inventory screen is replaced by the item selection screen , which contains almost all blocks and items (with some exceptions ) in a tabbed interface. Some items and blocks are available only in Creative mode, such as spawn eggs . Likewise, some blocks can be used only in Creative, such as command blocks and structure blocks .

Java Edition [ ]

In Java Edition , there are 13 tabs that are ordered from top-left to bottom right as:

  • Building Blocks
  • Colored Blocks
  • Natural Blocks
  • Functional Blocks
  • Redstone Blocks
  • Saved hotbars
  • Search items
  • Tools & Utilities
  • Food & Drinks
  • Ingredients
  • Survival inventory

Bedrock Edition [ ]

In Bedrock Edition, there are five tabs, which are:

  • Construction

There is also a view tab, which can be toggled to:

  • Creative inventory only
  • Creative and Survival inventory
  • Survival inventory only

General info [ ]

Some items behave differently in Creative mode. Generally, consumable items create a duplicate of themselves that remain on the same inventory slot when use d. Items do not disappear or lose durability . For example, putting an item in an item frame or on an armor stand does not cause it to disappear from the player's hand. Instead, the item is duplicated. It is the same for putting on armor by right-clicking it from the player's hotbar. Buckets with contents ( water , lava , aquatic mob ) duplicate their contents along with their carrying respective mobs (and with NBT tags , if any) upon placement. Empty buckets on the other hand, only cause fluid blocks to disappear and do not have the capability to carry mobs.

In Java Edition , there is a "destroy item" button, where items can be dragged to and deleted. ⇧ Shift + clicking on the button clears the entire inventory, including the hotbar, off-hand slot, and armor slots.

Item entities can be picked up by the player, but if the hotbar is already full, the items go into the Survival inventory. If the Survival inventory is full, they're deleted upon picking up.

Java-only Creative inventory exclusives [ ]

Several blocks can be found in the Creative inventory that are not normally available as items through vanilla Survival gameplay (excluding bedrock, chorus plant, end portal frames, farmland, spawn egg, dirt path, and the infested blocks as of the 1.17 snapshots):

  • Bedrock [note 1]
  • Budding Amethyst
  • Chorus Plant
  • End Portal Frame [note 2]
  • Infested Cobblestone
  • Infested Chiseled Stone Bricks
  • Infested Cracked Stone Bricks
  • Infested Mossy Stone Bricks
  • Infested Stone [note 3]
  • Infested Stone Bricks
  • Infested Deepslate
  • Player Head
  • Potion of Luck
  • Splash Potion of Luck
  • Lingering Potion of Luck
  • Arrow of Luck
  • Reinforced Deepslate
  • Tall Seagrass
  • ↑ Several methods for obtaining this as an item existed - see Tutorials/Obtaining discontinued blocks and items for more information.
  • ↑ Can be obtained using explosions in Beta 1.9 Pre release 3 - see Tutorials/Obtaining discontinued blocks and items for more information.
  • ↑ Can be obtained using Silk Touch in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4 - see Tutorials/Obtaining discontinued blocks and items for more information.

Pick block [ ]

The player can obtain items using pick block . Unlike Survival, the block selected appears in the player's hotbar even if the block is not already in the hotbar or in the Survival inventory. If it is in the inventory, then the block moves out of its former slot and replaces the block/item in the active hotbar slot, with the size of the stack preserved. If the hotbar is full then the selected block replaces the block/item in the active slot.

Most blocks give the player a copy of themselves when using pick block . Using it on an item frame gives the player the item held inside, or the item frame itself if no item is held. Using it on a mob gives the player a spawn egg of that mob. Using it on a mob head gives the mob type that it is; using it on custom heads gives only the mob type that was used in the command , but without the custom skin.

If the player holds Ctrl and presses pick block , in addition to obtaining the item, it also preserves the block's NBT tags , allowing the player to place an identical copy of the block; this allows the player to duplicate items inside of chests, dispensers, and so on, and also duplicates the text on signs .

Unavailable blocks and items [ ]

There are several blocks and a couple of items that do not appear in the Creative inventory. They can be obtained with the / give command and can be manually placed using / setblock command, using the IDs provided in the table below. Additionally, using pick block on these blocks also gives them, except where noted. Technical blocks , such as portals and off-state redstone torches , do not have corresponding inventory items at all in Java Edition and cannot be obtained without external help in Bedrock Edition , and thus cannot be legitimately obtained.

  • ↑ a b c d e f g h Only if cheats are enabled and the "Operator Items Tab" option is turned on.
  • ↑ Only through the "bundle" experimental data pack.

Platform specific exclusive features [ ]

Some blocks and items are obtainable in Creative on one platform, but not the other. The full list blocks and items only obtainable in the Java Edition Creative Inventory can be found here . Bedrock Edition exclusive Creative Inventory blocks and items can be found here .

Representation in level.dat [ ]

Creative mode is represented as 1 in GameType in the level.dat file; to manually change the GameType , the file must first be opened with an external NBT editor .

Note: Singleplayer worlds do not use this field to save the game mode the player is currently in.

How to switch a minecraft world from survival to creative to hardcore.

Want to change your Minecraft game from creative to survival or tap out of hardcore mode before you die? Here's how to do it right.

Quick Links

Why change between survival, creative, and hardcore, how to change game modes with the open lan trick, how to permanently change your minecraft game mode, key takeaways.

You can change some Minecraft game mode settings in the game, but permanently changing them for the whole world save, and all the players require you to edit some game files manually.

When you create a Minecraft world, you select your game mode, and that mode is fixed for the lifetime of the world. Or is it? Read on as we show you how to sidestep the game mode lock to temporarily or permanently change your game's mode.

When you create a new world, you select your game mode. You can choose from creative, survival, and hardcore modes. Under normal circumstances, this selection is fixed, and a permanent flag is set within the world file.

Minecraft lends itself to creativity and changing playstyles, however, and you may find that the map you intended to make a creative map feels like it would be a perfect survival map or vice versa. Or perhaps you want to start in creative mode to build your home base and then switch to survival mode to take on the world from the comfort of your freshly built castle. Or perhaps you're doing so well in your hardcore mode world that you're now anxious at the thought of losing it should you die.

Whatever your motivation for changing the world type, it's a pretty straightforward process. Let's look at two techniques you can use to change the game modes: first a temporary one for those times you need a quick fix, and then a permanent one.

This technique might be old hat to some Minecraft players, but it's worth noting as a very hasty and simple technique you can use without any advanced editing or secondary programs required at all.

A minecraft player, standing on a village dock, in survival mode.

Here we are in a test survival world we created for this tutorial. You can see the hearts and hunger meter above the experience and item bar.

The world was flagged as survival when we made it, and it will stay survival. However, we can temporarily skirt those rules by opening the game to the LAN for network play (even if we have no intention of playing it with other players).

Press the ESC key to open the game menu. Click "Open to LAN."

The Minecraft game menu.

If you have never used the "Open to LAN" function before, don't be surprised if you get a firewall popup. On Windows you'll get a "Windows Security Alert" box, indicating that Windows Defender Firewall has blocked Minecraft (or, more specifically, the Java platform binary Minecraft runs on) from accessing the network. Click "Allow access" to save yourself from future Minecraft multiplayer troubleshooting headaches .

In the LAN World menu, the only important option for our purposes is to toggle Allow Cheats to "On."

The Minecraft LAN World settings menu.

As the header implies, these are the settings for other players, and if you change the game mode here it only changes the game mode for incoming players to your LAN world. If you toggled the cheats on, however, it applies to all players in the game (including you). Click "Start LAN World" when you have toggled the cheats on.

Back in the game, press the "t" key to bring up the in-game command console box. Now you can use the /gamemode command to toggle the game mode for your player character. You can use the following flags:

The motivation for switching between survival and creative mode (or vice versa) is pretty self evident. There's no practical reason for someone outside of a specialy map to use adventure mode. And spectator mode, in a single-player game or small group play setting, is really only useful if you want to fly around like a ghost and take a peek underground or sneak up on your friends.

Let's use the creative flag now to switch from survival to creative mode. Enter the command:

A player entering a command to change their game mode to creative.

After you enter the command, you'll get a text box notification the game mode change is in effect, and you'll see GUI changes related to the mode change.

Notice the hearts, hunger, and experience meter are gone leaving only the item bar. Despite the world's survival mode flag, we're now in creative mode.

A player in creative move.

You can use this trick to temporarily alter the game mode of both survival and creative mode games. This trick can also be used to turn a hardcore mode game into a creative mode game. What's interesting about this trick and hardcore mode, however, is that hardcore mode (even though we refer to it as a game mode) is actually a separate game flag.

Hardcore mode is just survival mode wherein death leads to world deletion (in the older versions of Minecraft) and permanent spectator mode (in the newer versions). So you have only one life to live in your hardcore world.

Turning a hardcore game into a creative game creates a weird sort of hybrid wherein you get all the powers that come with creative mode, but if you were to die in creative mode (either by falling into the void or using the /kill command on yourself) you'd lose your world just like you would in regular hardcore mode. We'll show you how to toggle this later in the tutorial.

When you use this trick, you toggle your game mode, but you don't permanently toggle the state of the entire world save (and using the multiplayer command /defaultgamemode doesn't work correctly on single-player worlds).

In order to make permanent changes to the game mode state, you need to edit the game file, the level.dat, and use the same formatting Minecraft uses: Named Binary Tag (NBT). Here's how to do that and which flags are important for our game mode/hardcore mode edits.

Select an NBT Editor

Because of the NBT formatting, unfortunately, you can't just pop the level.dat file into a text editor and make a quick edit (the way you might edit the server.properties of your Minecraft server to disable PVP damage ).

To edit the level.dat and related files without corrupting them, we'll need to use one of the available Minecraft-friendly NBT editors to do so. For the purposes of this tutorial, we're using NBT Studio on a Windows PC, but we'll list other options here in case you're using a different operating system or don't want to install an app at all.

  • NBTExplorer -- Windows (MacOS and Linux compatible with Mono runtimes) -- One of the original Minecraft NBT editing tools. Great program, but hasn't been updated since 2017. We're including it here for posterity and as a backup option if you need it.
  • NBT Studio -- Windows -- It looks similar to NBTExplorer and is the spiritual successor of the previous app, but it is a total rewrite with frequent updates. It also supports Minecraft Bedrock NBT files.
  • webNBT -- Web-based -- If just need to toggle a flag or two and don't want the hassle of installing an application, WebNBT will get the job done. It's lean and doesn't have the extra features you'll find in NBT Studio, but it works with any modern web browser.

Editing Your Level.dat with NBT Studio

For this tutorial, we're using NBT Studio. The data structure of the Minecraft level.dat file will be the same regardless of what tool you load the level.dat file into, however, so feel free to follow along using webNBT or other tools.

Back up your Minecraft worlds before editing them. Copy the entire save file directory to a safe place just in case your editing and subsequent world load goes awry.

To begin editing and follow along with any of the following steps, run NBT Studio, open the location of your Minecraft save files using File > Open Folder , and navigate to the location of your Minecraft save files . For Windows users, the default location is:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves

While you can load just an individual level.dat file if you wish, doing it this way allows you to easily navigate through the directory structure of all the relevant data files.

Once loaded, you should see your save files, just like the screenshot below. You can click on the + symbol beside each world to expand it.

A screenshot of NBT Editor showing a Minecraft save file loaded.

There are tons of NBT tags inside the level.dat file, and it's best to leave things alone unless you know exactly what the tag you're looking at is and what values you can change it to. If you're curious about what they all do, you can check out the tag breakdown at the official Minecraft wiki to learn more.

Changing the Game Mode

First, let's look at changing the game mode of a given Minecraft game save. Select the name of your world, in our case "Test World I" and expand it. Within the directory you'll see multiple entries. The on which contains the world rules, including the game mode, is the level.dat entry at the bottom of the list.

Expand the level.dat entry and click on "Data." Within that data list, you'll find an entry labeled "GameType."

A screenshot of NBT Editor showing the GameType tag.

Although you can use keywords like "creative" to change modes when using the /gamemode command in the game, the GameType value must be set using a numeric value. Here are the values you can use:

0 - Survival 1 - Creative 2 - Adventure 3 - Spectator

Our goal is to switch the world we created from survival to creative, so we would switch the 0 to a 1. Double-click on the value and replace it with the game mode value you desire from the list above. Press CTRL+S or the save icon to save your edited tags.

If you've never logged into the world you're editing, you can skip this step. If you have logged into the world before, you must make one more edit. The save file remembers the state your player was in, so even if you change the world to a different mode, your player will stay in the old mode.

You can fix this issue by using the Open-to-LAN trick we outlined above and using the cheats to /gamemode yourself one last time to fix it, or you can make a quick edit in NBT Studio.

Navigate in NBT Studio to your world save and then to the sub-category of "playerdata." Select the UUID of your player. If you're the only one that plays on your world, it will be the only entry. If there are multiple players you'll need to know your UUID (or you can edit all the player files to the new game mode).

The fastest way to check your UUID is to use Mojang's UUID API. Simply copy and paste this URL into your web browser, replacing the USERNAME portion with your actual Minecraft username:

https://api.mojang.com/users/profiles/minecraft/USERNAME

UUID in hand, expand the player data entry in NBT studio

A screenshot of NBT Editor showing the playerGameType tag.

Change the value in "playerGame Type" using the same 0-4 values outlined in the previous section. To switch our player mode to creative without using the in-game workaround, we need to edit the "playerGame Type" value to 1. Again, make sure to CTRL+S or click the save icon to save your work.

Toggling Hardcore Mode

In the earlier section focused on using the Open-to-LAN workaround, we noted that if you used the survival-to-creative mode trick on a world that had been created with hardcore mode turned on, you'd end up in a sort of strange limbo where you had creative powers but would still lose your world if you died.

Let's take a look at how you can toggle hardcore mode off (if you want to turn that world into a regular survival or creative world) or on (if you want to add a little thrill to your life and turn a becoming-dull survival world into a one-life-to-live thrill ride).

If we open up the world's level.dat file in NBT Studio and scroll down, we see the "hardcore" tag on our hardcore test world is set to "1" indicating that the world is in hardcore mode even though we set our player's game mode (using the Open-to-LAN cheat) to creative.

A screenshot of NBT Editor showing hardcore game mode tag.

We can leave this setting as it is (and opt to switch the player back to survival mode, recreating the experience of hardcore mode), or we can toggle this setting from a "1" to a "0" at which point the game will not be deleted or set to spectator mode upon the death of the player (regardless of whether the player dies in survival or creative mode).

Although the point of hardcore mode is that, well, it's hardcore, we certainly understand if you've grown so attached to a world that you can't stand the thought of losing it and want to convert it to a regular survival or creative world.

Armed with a little know-how (and a very handy editor), you can control the game modes of your world saves without resorting to starting over or continually fiddling with the Open-to-LAN trick to get your settings just so.

15 Fun Ideas for What to Build in Minecraft - IGN Image

When it comes to Minecraft, at some point you'll likely ask yourself "what on earth do I build?" Perhaps you’ve booted up Minecraft in 2023 and created a new world after being away from the game for a while. Or, maybe you're feeling bored right now, and that happens too! In the end, the equivalent of writer's block slaps you in the face, and you need some creative ideas for your next Minecraft build. (Need to start with a guide first? We have you covered with the Minecraft Building guide and How to Mod Minecraft wiki).

Never fear, as we’ve compiled a shortlist of the best things to dedicate your time and build talent to with these fun Minecraft build ideas:

15 Top Minecraft Building Ideas

Tried and true, a house is a necessity for almost every Minecraft player. We’ve all started with the hole in the dirt, or the tiny wooden box for the first couple of nights. But rather than settle for a bland, flat box for a home, why not strive to create something that reflects you and your passions? If you want to replicate a house from your favorite media, then you can use pictures for reference or check out our list of Minecraft house ideas .

Minecraft House

If you want to do something wholly unique, throw out conventional structures and do something weird, cute, quirky, or cool. With Minecraft being the ultimate creativity tool, don’t limit yourself to the bare essentials of survival within four walls.

Castles can be a grand spectacle if done right and can be relatively easy to put together if you plan out the design ahead of time. Begin by laying out the floorplan, as well as the perimeter wall that will surround your castle. Maybe add in a moat and drawbridge for an extra sense of flair.

Minecraft Castle Build

Consider which angle of fantasy you are aiming for, and that will dictate the blocks you use, color schemes, and decoration aesthetics. As with any Minecraft build, the more forethought you give to a build, the better it will turn out, and the more likely you will be to follow through and have the determination to complete it.

Minecraft Boat Build Example

A good accompaniment to a castle, or as a standalone build depending on the scale, constructing a seaworthy vessel can be a challenging but fulfilling experience. Due to the limitations of Minecraft, a boat has less functionality than other structures, however, if you’re wanting to have a home base that isn’t just a box, building a boat as your HQ can reinvigorate your playthrough.

The ultimate test of perseverance and determination, but also the challenge that offers the biggest dopamine hit as the project starts coming together; the city build. Sure, you don't have to create something this legendary right away, but for collaborative Minecraft builds that are quite legendary, we had to throw in this GoT city for inspiration.

Minecraft City of Kings Landing (from Game Of Thrones)

The further you push the scale and detail, the harder it will be, so compartmentalize. Don’t worry about furnishing the insides of each and every building as you go; you can put a sign down or make a mental note of what you’d like each building to be.

5. Animal Farm

Another build you are likely to do naturally if you’re playing in Survival; there are various ways to create an animal farm. The most common way is to lure a pair of the same animal to a spot near your home and pen them in. Rinse and repeat for various different mobs, and you’ll have an infinite supply of meat, eggs, wool, milk, etc.

Minecraft Animal Farm/Farmhouse

If you’re wanting to take your animal farming to the next level, you can produce intricate systems, involving Redstone or not, that can automatically farm animal resources for you. This will of course almost always require you to lure the animals in the first place, but if you’re a particularly busy bee you can ensure valuable materials are continually being gathered even when you’re off exploring.

6. Treehouse

Treehouses are a wonderful way of spicing up your Minecraft lifestyle. Whilst you can incorporate any tree in any biome into your home, the obvious best choice here is a Jungle biome, simply due to the height (and therefore real estate) you can produce without too much obstruction or limitation.

Minecraft Treehouse Build

Whether you’re going for an inconspicuous shack or an interconnected series of huts, there are many Treehouse ideas to get you started on your new life high in the sky.

A seemingly trivial affair, right? Just place some blocks over a bit of water. Why not make it more exciting though? If your surrounding builds have a particular theme, why not style the bridge to fit in with that aesthetic you're going for?

Minecraft Bridge Build

Another option is to start a project based on a real-world bridge , be it Golden Gate or London Bridge, there are countless options that you can choose your design from. These types of builds can be particularly effective when attached to City builds, or for people who are fans of LEGO Architecture . What’s better than having both a physical and digital model of a famous landmark?

An often-overlooked element that can be incorporated into each and every house you build, the garden in Minecraft is an accentuating feature that can really enhance the aesthetics of your home. It also acts as an excellent reason for you to collect the various plants and flowers you encounter, as well as saplings for trees you’ve found in various biomes should the size of your garden permit them.

Minecraft Garden Build

You can take this idea one step further by making a humongous garden to walk through, acting as a flower show or park for you (and any multiplayer friends) to enjoy and relax within. Also see: Where to Find Flowers in Minecraft .

9. Fountain

Another easy addition that can enhance other elements of your builds, throw down some fancy stone and dig a small hole - but no swimming! If you’re wanting to go big, design a small statue to sit atop the fountain, maybe even incorporate some Redstone to make your water flow intermittently through spouts to make it as realistic as possible.

Minecraft Fountain Build

If you want an easier approach to having a showpiece atop your new fountain, you can use an Armor Stand with some shiny armor (and pose it if you’re in Bedrock Edition).

10. Library

A build that is particularly easy to assemble if you’re in Creative is a Library, as it can be as big or small as you wish. All you need is an outer shell of a building, shaped and designed however you wish, and an absurd number of Bookshelf blocks!

Minecraft Library Build

Whilst you may not consider it at first, like many other projects, you can model the library you build off of a property that is near and dear to you - your local library. Alternatively, if you want to make the jump into fiction, consider building the dusty library of Hogwarts , Belle’s library from Beauty and the Beast, or the Jedi Archives if you’re wanting to stretch your creative abilities. (Who remembers the Uncensored Library Minecraft map from 2020?)

11. Landmarks

An awe-inspiring yet also functional build idea, you can choose an open area to build a monument, be it from fiction or nonfiction. Attempt to recreate the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, the Space Needle, Mount Rushmore… the list goes on.

Minecraft Statue

If a real-world landmark doesn’t whet your appetite, why not build a statue of your favorite superhero? Large-scale builds like this not only result in impressive art pieces, but they can double up as literal landmarks so that you can more easily navigate your Minecraft world if you don’t have other tools at your disposal. (Also see: 11 Incredible Skyrim-Inspired Minecraft builds , top Mario Minecraft builds and these amazing Harry Potter Minecraft builds ). Besides, it would be pretty difficult to lose your house if a gigantic Eye of Sauron loomed over it.

12. Evil Lair

Why not let out your more conspicuous side and give in to the theoretical dark side? If any of the previous entries haven’t been to your liking when it comes to creating your forever home, aim for something villainous. The juxtaposition with Minecraft’s mostly bright and blissful nature provides a refreshing nature to your gameplay, and by default demands a different approach to the building process. Do you create secret passageways hidden by paintings? Tripwires and secret traps to catch those entering your base unaware? The sky is the limit when it comes to your dastardly schemes.

Minecraft Evil Lair Build

You can choose to base yourself in the Nether if you wish, or you can bring some of the Nether to you and construct a dark fortress or underground lair that intimidates any and all who come near it (even if you’re playing in Single player).

13. Aquarium

Be it large or small, an aquarium always manages to become a huge draw of attention, bringing people from far and wide to see exotic fish and marine creatures. With the ever-expanding list of water-dwelling mobs in Minecraft, there hasn’t been a better time than now to work on constructing an aquarium of your own.

Minecraft Aquarium Build

From a small fish tank inside your home to a major building in and of itself, the options are limitless. As you enter more endgame content and can explore underwater areas more comfortably, you’ll have more and more opportunities to meet (and subsequently catch) different fish that you can then add as your latest exhibit on display.

A particularly fun project if you’re aiming to RP a lot in your world, a museum can not only act as a storage facility, but also a trip down memory lane. Your first enchanted pickaxe that’s this close to breaking, your first diamond, the remains of a beloved animal lost all too soon; these gems can all live here.

Minecraft Museum Build

With materials like the more recently added Bone blocks , you can also recreate fossils and skeletons to put on display, and precious pieces of artwork to admire.

15. Pixel Art

Sticking with the idea of art pieces on display, something that is entirely plausible for each and every Minecraft player, regardless of skill level, is pixel art. The blocky pixel-based art style of default Minecraft lends itself excellently to projects like this. Be it your favorite anime character, a shot from a beloved film, or the spiciest of memes, the only limit is your imagination.

If you need Minecraft building ideas, this is the ultimate guide!

Out of all the video games ever made,  few come close to offering the amount of creative freedom as Minecraft.

Minecraft is the kind of game where you can literally build anything – the only limit is your imagination.

If you’re struggling to come up with new Minecraft concepts this guide gives you a bunch of cool ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

1) A Minecraft House

Is there any more classic building than a Minecraft house? Probably not.

Whether you are just building a basic cobblestone shelter, a regular house, a modern house, or a luxurious mansion with every type of room imaginable, building houses is a staple of Minecraft and a cool idea for anyone to try.

If you learn a good strategy for building houses you’ll be able to stand out in multiplayer servers and impress your friends with a sweet house.

You could even try to rebuild your IRL house in Minecraft – that’s a fun project if you have the time! You could recreate the layout of each room in your house in detail. Or base it on other cool cribs from around the world.

You can find hundreds of Minecraft building tutorials on youtube, here are a couple of our favorites:

  • Minecraft House Tutorial: Large Wooden Survival House
  • Minecraft | How to Build a Starter House with Mine Entrance | Tutorial
  • 50+ Minecraft House Ideas for your Survival World!

After building a house, the next logical step is building a garden. Minecraft is full of cool flowers, trees, and other greenery.

There are a bunch of different garden styles you can take inspiration from in real life. You could build a classical walled garden or even something like a Japanese zen garden.

We recommend doing a google image search and finding inspirational gardens to base your build off.

If you’re in survival mode, building gardens is a bit harder because you need to collect all the resources and seeds manually. This process will be rewarding though when you can relax in your stunning Minecraft garden.

Farms are a fun thing to build in Minecraft. There are many mechanics which revolve around farming too – whether that’s growing crops, breeding animals, or milking cows – you can make farms that work almost as realistically as farms in real life.

You can build many types of farms in Minecraft, and of course, no farm is complete without a barn and farmhouse.

You can build fully functional farms which are actually useful in survival , beyond just looking cool. Farms are a great way of generating a lot of food and other resources.

You should also check out techniques for automating them: 10 Minecraft Farms In 10 Minutes

4) Minecraft City

After you’ve got the hang of creating buildings, you should consider making a Minecraft city.

Cities are ambitious builds, but if you want a mega creative project to sink hours into then a big city is a great place to start. These are obviously going to be a lot easier to make in creative mode rather than survival, but it is still possible in survival mode.

You could base your city build on a real-life location, perhaps the one you live in. Or even take inspiration from cities out of other video games like World of Warcraft or the Elder Scrolls. You can build a modern city, or an old-fashioned fantasy city – it’s entirely up to you!

Alternatively, you could make up a completely new big city with the power of your imagination. Just be prepared to need a lot of stone blocks and stone bricks!

5) Underground / Secret Base

Minecraft is a game all about digging and going underground. So why not build yourself a cool underground base?

You might even consider making it a hidden or secret base. Hiding buildings and creating secret entrances in Minecraft can be a lot of fun, and there are actually quite a few methods of pulling it off.

One of our favorites is hiding an underground lair under a trapdoor with ladders in a bush or under a tree. Because it’s underground you should be able to make an underground base with enough space for all your rooms.

Don’t forget that you can also do the painting trick! You can walk through paintings, although you can’t see through them. This makes them the perfect device for hiding an entrance to an underground base.

6) A Base in the Nether

The Nether is definitely the most dangerous dimension in Minecraft, however, it’s also the only place you can find the ingredients for making the best gear. If you want to beat the game, then you have to conquer the nether at some point.

Building a safe outpost in the Nether can make your hellish adventures much safer. Building a safe stronghold can help you to survive the dangers of this fiery wasteland while you grind away for those sweet netherite ingots…

Arenas are the best place to test out your combat skills against competitors. You can build either player vs player areas or arenas where you have to fight against mobs.

Building a mob-based arena can be a fun challenge and help you to learn some of Minecraft’s mechanics and commands in more depth. You can use mob spawners or command blocks to create automatic waves of enemies that spawn every so many seconds.

Alternatively, make a PvP arena to compete with your friends or other people on the server.  You can add a bunch of fun twists to your PvP arenas to make them more fun and challenging.

8) Squid Game Glass Bridge

The hit TV series Squid Game has influenced many video games thanks to its fascinating and tense challenges. One cult classic is the glass bridge – which you can easily recreate in Minecraft.

The premise is simple – players must get from one side of the bridge to the other, however, some tiles are real, while other tiles are fake and will make you fall to your death.

Check out this youtube tutorial on how to build a working Squid Game glass bridge in Minecraft . These are really fun things to play with in any kind of multiplayer mini-game server!

The design and mechanics are relatively straightforward and don’t require a tonne of redstone knowledge.

9) Spaceship

While the base aesthetics of Minecraft take place in more of a medieval-style fantasy setting, that doesn’t mean you have to restrict your builds.

The huge combination of blocks available in Minecraft means that you can create builds with a range of aesthetics. It’s even quite good at making a futuristic style if you combine the right blocks. This is even better if you use mod packs and texture packs .

Spaceships are an exciting type of build that test your creativity. You can build them high in the sky and use command blocks to teleport players up to them.

Other video games and sci-fi movies can be great places to find inspiration for your spaceship build. Just watch out for those creeper aliens!

10) Factory

Over the years of development, several features and items have been added to Minecraft that make automation more possible.

Sure, you can find some really cool mods that make factory builds even more realistic and functional, however, even vanilla Minecraft is capable of building some realistic factory systems. You can actually automate a lot of processes in Minecraft now.

Whether you are making a gunpowder factory from creepers, a piggy porkchop factory, or an ore smelting powerhouse, factories are a cool build idea in Minecraft. This is another build type where you can get a lot of inspiration from looking at google images of factories.

Check out this factory video tutorial The Honeyed Apple Factory Buildings! Minecraft Create Mod

11) Tunnels

Minecraft is a game that is designed for digging and underground adventures. That’s why we think tunnels are a lot of fun to build.

Tunnels can be used for a range of purposes. These could house a secret base, they could be used to transport players and materials using minecarts, and they could be used to traverse long and dangerous territories with ease. You could also build an underwater tunnel to cross an ocean or river.

This Minecraft building idea is relatively easy to build but is still very rewarding.

What Minecraft world can be complete without a mine? The word is literally in the name of the game… So surely it’s a cool idea to make one, right?

That said, mines are an important and valuable build which makes it easier to find and harvest materials.

You can build mines in a range of styles. You could create an old-fashioned mineshaft with ladders and wood blocks. Or you could build a more modern mine in the style of a quarry.

Some mods like Tekkit add new mining tools which let you build enormous and more efficient automated mines with powerful mining systems.

13) Pirate Ship

Going back to the fantasy theme, pirate ships are another exciting build idea. If you’ve ever played games like Sea of Thieves or Assassin’s Creed Black Flag then you’ll have a taste for the amount of fun being a pirate is.

You can even be a pirate in Minecraft! All you need to do is make a cool pirate ship and choose a nice pirate skin. Sadly you can’t make pirate ships sail across the sea, you can only use the humble wooden boat item. Either way, this is still one of the best Minecraft building ideas out there.

Building docks is another entertaining challenge that will give you a cool final product. Whether you are building a modern industrial dock, or a medieval one, creating a dock will keep you busy for hours.

Docks need a lot of wood, so make sure you build it somewhere near a lot of trees if you are building it in survival mode. No dock is complete without a range of ships, from huge pirate ships to miniature boats This allows you to express your boat-building skills!

Shops are a particularly fun building to create in a multiplayer server as you can actually use them to trade with fellow players. You can build any type of shop you can imagine – from a baker to a diamond shop. These can be great for roleplaying servers too.

Taking inspiration from real-life stores is a good way to base your building design ideas. You could even build a massive supermarket-style store if you have the time and resources. You could create a bartering system using signs and chests, or even manually run the shop as the owner in multiplayer worlds.

If you are playing in single-player, you can build shop-style buildings in villages and populate them with villagers. Give them the right job site blocks, and you can have shops filled with villagers with relevant professions like armorsmith, weaponsmith, librarian , and more! Now, how cool is that? Just save your emeralds!

16) Restaurant

After you’ve built a farm and have a reliable source of food, you should consider building a restaurant or diner to entertain some guests. Restaurants are a great place to hang out with your friends and enjoy some Minecraft food like carrots or pork chops.

If you’re creative then you could design your own restaurant from scratch. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a restaurant then Minecraft allows you to try it out. Design your own menu and restaurant layout, and hire some friends from your Minecraft server to start role-playing.

You could also design your restaurant based on some famous brands like KFC, Mcdonald’s, or Wendy’s!

How to build a restaurant in minecraft

Don’t forget to build a smoker utility block that cooks food twice as fast as a standard furnace.

17) Kitchen

If a restaurant is too large of a build to handle, why not start with a simple kitchen? You can fill your kitchen with all the standard kitchen utensils – a furnace, sink, cauldron, and storage chests.

These are perfect if you need a quick pick-me-up, like a bit of pork chop or if you want to prepare fried chicken.

As mentioned in the restaurant section, don’t forget to look into a Smoker block which is a more effective furnace for cooking food faster.

The amount of food types available in Minecraft isn’t enormous, and the cooking system is quite basic – so we suggest you check out this Minecraft Cooking Mod to make your kitchen time more engaging.

18) Workshop

A workshop will be particularly useful for people playing in a survival server but is also just a generally fun thing to build in creative mode.

Your workshop should have everything you need to craft items. This could feature a bunch of storage chests to stash your resources and some crafting tables for… crafting. Make sure you include a furnace or even a blast furnace that smelts ores at twice the speed of a regular furnace.

This could include any of the main crafting blocks, like smithing tables, anvils, enchanting tables, brewing gear, and more. Although, we recommend that you put these in separate themed rooms of your base, which we’ll outline throughout this guide.

19) Smithing Room

Minecraft is a game filled with ores and metal, so what better utility room to have than a smithing space? If you play survival Minecraft, you’ll spend a lot of time melting down ore into ingots and crafting these ingots into various tools, weapons, armor, and other items.

A room filled with smithing gear can make this process much more efficient. Not only can you make these rooms look cool by theming the blocks you use, but they can also be highly functional and make your life in Minecraft a lot easier.

You should at least include the following crafting blocks to make your smithing room effective: furnace, blast furnace , smithing table , anvil, grindstone, and an enchanting table.

Having these items lets you create powerful weapons and armor all from one room!

20) Wizard’s Room

Minecraft is a magical game, although as a player you don’t have access to many spells in the vanilla version. (You should check out these Magic Mods for Minecraft if you want to add spells, wands, and other cool magical features into the game.)

Even so, you can make some cool wizard-themed places to bring a touch of magic and mystery to your Minecraft world. Rather than just building a wizard’s room, you could build your own wizard’s tower with all the classical designs and tropes from old-school fantasy.

For starters, this room could include all the potion-brewing gear you need, some portals, and an enchanting table. If you are working in creative mode or designing a place for your server, you could use command blocks to build teleporters or devices that appear to be magic by using commands to perform extraordinary tasks.

You could find inspiration from old fantasy movies, video games like Elden Ring, or even from descriptions in books like Lord of the Rings or the Game of Thrones series.

21) Library

Even if you don’t enjoy reading, a library is still a functional build in Minecraft. You could make a cool library purely for decorative purposes – it could be stacked with old bookshelf blocks and lecterns holding dusty books full of mysterious clues.

You could even base it on some famous historical libraries, libraries from video games, or even your local library.

Taking it beyond decoration, libraries (or more specifically, bookshelves) are an important component in the enchanting process. To access higher enchantment levels, your enchantment table needs to be surrounded by bookshelves.

To reach the maximum enchanting levels, you need to have a total of 15 bookshelves around your enchanting table. You can have more if you want, but any less and you won’t be able to get the max enchanting levels.

22) Pixel Art

In some ways, Minecraft can be described as a 3D version of Microsoft paint. Each block can be seen as a pixel, which can be crafted into a rich tapestry to create any image you can imagine.

There are some mind-blowing pixel art Minecraft builds out there. From Homer Simpson to the Mona Lisa, anything can be recreated. The current version of Minecraft has so many different textures and colors that you won’t struggle to make pixel-perfect images.

There is a bit of a technique to building Minecraft pixel art. When you master it, you will find it super easy to build pixel images. These can take a lot of time when done in detail but are really rewarding. Building pixel art is a rite of passage that every Minecraft enjoyer should undertake at some point.

23) Minecraft Castle Build

Your princess is in another castle… Ok, forget the Mario references for a second, if you haven’t tried to build a castle in Minecraft then you haven’t really played the game.

Whether you are basing your design of a real castle, a fictional one, or you’re just coming up with your own idea, no other game is better for castle building than Minecraft. Not everyone gets to go in a castle in real life, so. a Minceraft build will be the next best thing.

There are so many blocks that lend themselves to the aesthetics of castles, and so many items which make for sweet decorative elements. You can include a bunch of different rooms within your castle, like a treasure room, servant’s quarters, a dining hall, the king’s throne, and even a dungeon…

Minecraft Castle Tutorials

24) Dungeons

Dungeons became so popular in Minecraft, Mojang actually released a spin-off game called Minecraft Dungeons (which you should totally check out, it’s a lot of fun).

That said, becoming the dungeon master and building your own Minecraft dungeon is very exciting indeed. Unlike most games, where you are the hero who has to overcome the challenges a dungeon throws at you, in Minecraft, you can make the dungeon.

There are endless variations of dungeons, and thanks to the mechanics and features available when playing Minecraft you can have a lot of power and flexibility over its design. We recommend getting to grips with command blocks and mob spawners, so you can create systems that automatically generate skeletons and other mobs when players cross a pressure pad or trip wire.

As far as Minecraft builds go, this is one of the more fun things you can try!

25) Minecraft Museum Build

The relationship between Minecraft and museums is actually pretty funny. In real life, there are actually a fair few Minecraft museums – seeing how popular the game became (currently the 4th most played game in history) it’s unsurprising to see several museums in the world include a section dedicated to Minecraft.

Equally, in Minecraft, there are thousands of museums and museum servers. Some are even based on real museums.

Thanks to the flexibility of Minecraft, you can recreate any historical buildings or objects. This lends itself well to creating virtual museums. There are some really fascinating Minecraft museum servers you should explore for inspiration too! This is a really fun Minecraft building idea to have a go at.

Minecraft: 10+ Museum Build Hacks & Ideas!

26) Minecraft Aquarium Build

Aquariums are a fun day out where you get to see as much aquatic life as you please. In Minecraft, there is actually a fair amount of aquatic mobs, so it makes sense to build an aquarium at some point.

Of course, you’re going to need a lot of glass and buckets of water to build one, but it’s a thrilling project to take part in.

Catching and moving aquatic mobs will be much more difficult though, so we recommend doing this one in creative mode and using the spawner eggs.

27) Tree Houses

Not many houses or building types are as cozy as a tree house. Minecraft is full of cool jungles and forests, so making a treehouse is super easy – and you’ll have as much space as you need. Just make sure you bring an axe!

You can build treehouses in an infinite number of styles. From small humble builds with a single platform in a giant tree, to epic, sprawling Minecraft treehouse cities that can host several guests and villagers. This is easily one of our favorite Minecraft ideas.

One tip, make sure you consider the danger of fire spreading. A single bolt of lightning could burn down your entire treehouse because of how flammable wood and leaf blocks are, so use a lightning rod to redirect any dangerous strikes.

Minecraft | How to Build a Treehouse

28) Famous Landmarks

Because Minecraft is so flexible and full of blocks, you can rebuild literally any famous landmark you can imagine. Ambitious projects like these can be a great way to improve your building and architectural skills, while also giving you a taste of the journey the original builders went through.

Whether it’s the ancient pyramids, the grand canyon, the statue of liberty, or the Eiffel tower, every Minecraft lover should attempt to recreate their favorite landmarks at some point.

Many of the most famous ones have been done before, so you should be able to find a tutorial online if you need some help.

Minecraft Eiffel Tower Tutorial

In a world full of ravines, rivers, cliffs, and canyons, bridges are an essential structure to navigate these deadly terrains. They’re also just a cool Minecraft building idea in general.

Besides the purpose of crossing a gap, bridges can look impressive and make for a refreshing build project. There are tons of bridge styles out there (so many we made a dedicated guide to Building Bridges In Minecraft ).

From the humble rope bridge to a mighty replica of San Francisco’s Golden Gate bridge, to mighty Roman-style aqueducts, there are endless bridge styles to take inspiration from.

Whether you are building it for fun or function, ensure you make your Minecraft bridge out of sturdy materials!

30) Minecraft Statue Build

Just like the endless possibilities for creating 2D pixel art in Minecraft, it’s equally capable of creating realistic statues. This is a great Minecraft building idea to test your skills.

The amount of detail you go into is up to you – maybe you just want to build a basic statue of a creeper or sheep, or perhaps you want to build a magnificently detailed mega statue.

Whatever kind of statue you want to make, you can rest assured that Minecraft has the capacity to be your virtual clay. This is another reason we love Minecraft so much – because it can be used as an artistic medium, it’s more than just a game.

31) Beach House

If you could have any kind of house in real life, wouldn’t you choose a cool beach house? We would, so that’s why we’ve looked into a bunch of different beach house designs in Minecraft.

You can build beach houses out of almost anything, but we think wood planks and sandstone blocks have an authentic style. Concrete is also a good choice, as it lets you add some color to your vacation house.

The beaches in Minecraft are very satisfying to explore – and there are a few different biome types where beaches occur. So find a nice spot on a beach and build yourself a swaggy house on the beach.

Minecraft | How to Build a Beach House

32) Underwater House

Building an underwater house in Minecraft is something that everyone needs to try. Ok, so maybe the term “base” would be better than “house”, although I guess you could still call it a house. Either way, underwater buildings are a fun and futuristic challenge.

Some cool underwater hotels in real life serve as good inspiration for this project. You could even build an entire village underwater.

Obviously, we’ll suggest using a lot of glass in your underwater build so you can see out into the ocean depths. Building your underwater base near a coral reef will bring even more excitement and interest.

Minecraft: How To Build the Ultimate Underwater Base Tutorial

33) Cool Nether Portal Builds

Nether portals are another essential part of any true Minecraft experience. You might not know this, but you don’t have to build a nether portal with the standard 3×2 dimensions. So long as you build larger than this size, you can actually create nether portals as big as you want.

This mechanic enables some epic nether portal builds. Rather than a small nether portal you can build a huge majestic one that intimidates any Minecraft player that sees it.

Minecraft: 10 Nether Portal Designs That Are Out Of This (Over)world

34) Sky Factory

You might be wondering, “what even is a sky factory?” Well, it’s a factory in the sky… beyond that, there is actually a fantastic Minecraft mod: Sky Factory that brings a whole range of factory-based features to the game.

This mod adds a bunch of new blocks, mechanics, automation, magic, and technology into the game. It also introduces some new world generation types for wacky worlds.

The technology and automation in this mod pack let you create some really interesting factories and farms – all of which can run completely in floating sky factories. Check it out!

Minecraft SkyFactory Tutorial

35) Gas Station

While there are no cars in vanilla Minecraft, there are tons of mods that bring them into the game – as well as other gas-using vehicles.

Whether you’re using the mods or not, you should still have a go at building a gas station. Gas stations are pretty easy to build, but still are an entertaining task to try.

36) Horse Stables

The game was completely changed after the introduction of horses in Minecraft. We think this was one of the best additions to the game in recent years.

Because of the mechanics of leads , you can literally train and tame as many horses as you want. After getting yourself a few trusty steeds, you’re going to need somewhere to keep them safe.

A stable is a perfect solution for storing your horses. There are loads of different stable types. You could keep each horse in its own room, or you could keep them all in the same enclosure. Just make sure you have plenty of wheat around to keep them well-fed.

Minecraft | How to Build a Horse Stable

37) Storage room

The longer you spend in a Minecraft world, the more items you’re going to collect. Over time, you can end up with a staggering amount of loot – both junk and treasure.

Storage rooms are super important if you’re playing survival Minecraft – particularly if you’re interested in tackling some large builds, as you’re going to need somewhere to store all your resources.

Organization is the key to successful storage rooms. You could sort your chests alphabetically, or group them based on block and item types. Either way, make sure you arrange your chests and items in a way that makes it quick and easy for you to find the things you need!

How To Build a Storage Room With Automatic Sorter in Minecraft

38) Brewery

There’s nothing better than a cold pint of Minecraftian beer after a long day of mining. Breweries and pubs are great places to relax with your Minecraft friends after digging around in the dirt for diamonds .

You can include a bunch of potion-brewing tools and ingredients for people to brew their own drinks. Although, for the professional beer tastes in the Minecraft community, we recommend you check out the classic Drink Beer Minecraft Mod.

Just don’t drink and drive a minecart or horse…

Minecraft: How to Build an Ultimate Brewing House

39) Floating Sky Base / Blimp

While much of Minecraft takes place underground, it’s equally well suited for enjoying adventures in the sky.

Building a sky base is an entertaining (yet challenging) activity that can give really cool results. You will need to consider a couple of things, for example, how are you going to get up and down?

Using command block teleporters can make this really easy, although you could always just use a classic ladder system.

There are also some cool flying and airplane mods out there that make sky bases even more powerful.

Minecraft: 10 Sky Base Designs To Give You A Rush

40) A Roller Coaster with Minecarts

Weeeeeee! Building roller coasters in Minecraft is almost as fun as riding them in real life, although it might make you feel sick too.

Minecarts and minecart tracks are very flexible, and can literally be used to make any kind of roller coaster system imaginable. While they are typically used as a quick transport system, you can get creative with them and create roller coasters for Minecraft adrenaline seekers.

Get familiar with the different types of minecart rails and how they interact with Redstone. You can actually build some really complicated systems with interactive features. Check out things like boost rails, detector rails, and activator rails.

41) Graveyard and Cathedral

OooOoOOo! Spooky! Minecraft is full of dead undead mobs: zombies, skeletons, and withers. Any of these could kill adventurers and put them six feet under.

Building a graveyard to respect all the fallen heroes of Minecraft is a good way to spice up your world and get players feeling spooked out.

No graveyard is complete without an accompanying church or cathedral, which in itself is a fascinating project to build. You could even build an underground crypt filled with skeletons!

Church and Graveyard | Minecraft Ideas

42) Theme Park

Although Minecraft is fun enough on its own, you could always use an exotic theme park to get your heart racing.

Many of the mechanics in Minecraft let you build fully working elements that you find in real theme parks, like slides, helter-skelters, and of course, roller coasters.

If you’re not too savvy on redstone and command blocks, there are loads of tutorials you can follow to get the hard work done for you!

Theme Park In Survival Minecraft!

Hotels are a great place to stay in real life, so why not make your very own 5-star Minecraft hotel? You could fill it with all the fancy decorations and multiple layers that are common in real hotels.

For a bit of extra excitement, put a few hidden rooms and passages in the hotel to give players a sense of mystery.

You can build hotels in a modern style, or something more classical – the choice is yours!

44) Recreate Your Favorite Song With Music Blocks

Minecraft is more than just a game for building buildings. Thanks to some of the items and Redstone technology, you can actually use Minecraft to play any song you can imagine.

These kinds of projects are really fun for music lovers, and many people have put their creativity to the test to recreate classic songs in Minecraft – just watch a YouTube video tutorial to see what can be done.

It all revolves around Note Blocks. These blocks, when activated by a Redstone signal, emit a musical note or noise. You can change the sound produced by placing certain blocks underneath the Note Block, some make drum sounds, and others change the instrumental sound. You can also change the note produced by the Note Block.

Using Redstone and timers, you can sequence the activation of these Note Blocks to create perfect copies of famous songs – although be prepared to spend hours tweaking it.

You can even use these to build things like a pressure plate activated piano, or an alarm system. Make sure you spend some time experimenting with note blocks to find out all their possibilities.

How to Build Any Song with Note Blocks in Minecraft

45) Swimming pool

Swimming is another fun activity in Minecraft, so building a pool is a great idea.

Just like in real life, there is essentially an infinite number of swimming pool designs you can build.

Maybe you just want a basic rectangular pool, or you might even want something more spectacular with islands, rivers, and palm trees.

Another fun addition is a diving board…

Minecraft | Easy Pool Design #2 | Tutorial (You Can Build)

46) Diving board

Diving boards are an exciting build, where you can enjoy the thrills of diving into a pool ( or maybe missing and falling to your death). Although they can also be useful and have a functional purpose, particularly if you’ve built a floating base.

Building a diving board can help you to get down from high spaces safely. Or you and your friends can do tricks off them and dive into the ocean, a river, or a pool.

These are pretty easy to build because all you need are some blocks to build vertically, and of course, ladders so you can easily climb back up and jump down again!

How to Build a Bouncy Diving Board – Minecraft

47) Skyscraper

While vanilla Minecraft has a generally medieval/fantasy aesthetic, you aren’t limited in what you can build thanks to the creative freedom offered by such a large choice of building blocks.

Skyscrapers are stunning in real life, and there are so many cool things out there to inspire you each with unique architectural styles. Everyone should try to build a skyscraper in Minecraft at some point, although make sure you bring boots with a Feather Falling enchantment to protect you from falling damage.

When you get good at making tall building designs, you could build an entire city, although be prepared to not see sunlight IRL for a while… Just be prepared to harvest a lot of clay and sand to make concrete and glass. You’ll need glass to let natural light come in.

Concrete is one of the best materials to use for walls. Because concrete powder is affected by gravity, you can build the four corners, then use the powder to fill the walls in from the top of the tower, without having to manually place each layer. This will save you a lot of time. Then just run some water down the edges to turn the concrete powder into solid concrete. Don’t forget you can dye concrete any color you want!

48) Parkour maps

Do any other games have the possibility to contain such a large number of mini-games as Minecraft? We don’t think so…

Parkour (aka free running) is one of the most popular mini-games in Minecraft. This high-octane, skill-based agility race is a great way to test your traversal skills.

Building a parkour map is a lot of fun if you are creative and into parkour. If you do a good job you could even send it to a parkour server and they might include it in their map selection.

Due to movement mechanics in Minecraft, several design caveats need to be considered to ensure your course is completable.

How to make a good parkour map – Minecraft tutorial

49) Experimental laboratory

Minecraft is a game that lends itself perfectly to science and experimentation.

There are so many different systems and mechanics which you should experiment with in Minecraft. From Redstone to TNT, from mobs to minecarts – or even a combination of all four!

Having a large and controlled space to carry out your Minecraft experiments can be a game changer. Rather than working in the chaotic environment above ground, or even in a cave, building your own scientific laboratory gives you the space you need to experiment with the wonderful sciences of Minecraft.

You can also decorate the space to give it a more professional aesthetic – for example, we think the clinical, clean look of white concrete gives a laboratory the perfect look. Remember, more space is better for this type of Minecraft build.

Minecraft: 30+ Laboratory Build Hacks!

50) Observatory

The night sky in Minecraft is deceptively cleverly designed, and equally as beautiful. You may not know this, but the Minecraft sky at night is actually filled with stars and constellations. It isn’t randomly generated and is actually handmade and fixed.

For example, if you get lost, there is actually a specific star that points north, dubbed Minecraft’s own “North Star”.

With that said, you can use this to build an observatory high up in the hills to watch the night sky. Maybe you could base it on real observatories – just make sure you include the iconic domed roof that most of them use.

Minecraft – Observatory Tutorial (How to Build)

While vanilla Minecraft only has the basic spyglass item for zooming in, there are actually some really cool mods for enhancing your star-gazing experience.

Minecraft is a game full of mystery and puzzles. So what better concept to contribute to the world than a puzzling maze?

Building mazes is a lot of fun if you are playing on a multiplayer server. Just make sure that people don’t break the walls down. If you have operator status in the server, you should build your maze out of bedrock to protect it from being destroyed. although equally, you could protect your build work with server commands

If you have the mental creativity to design your own maze from scratch that can be very cool. Although if not, don–t worry because thousands of real-life mazes (or even fantasy puzzle mazes in the newspaper) can inspire your maze design.

10 Tips for Maze Building (in Minecraft)

52) Fishing Outpost on a Desert Island

Spawning on a desert island can be a fun challenge in Minecraft, much like doing the sky-block mini-game. While it can be stressful due to resource limitations, it can also be a cool thing to include in your server or survival world.

Relaxing on a desert island IRL is also a sweet activity, so making a tropical desert island in Minecraft is an entertaining task. You could find a small island to start on, otherwise, you’ll have to build it from scratch, which will take up a lot of blocks if you start building up from the ocean floor.

You could fill it with palm trees, and even put a dock to go fishing on. The “Stranded” mini-game is a popular one in Minecraft and is one of our favorites.

Closing Thoughts

Don’t forget to bookmark this page for quick reference the next time you need some cool Minecraft building ideas!

With a list this long you’ll be able to keep yourself busy for months. Remember, if you are new to Minecraft then it’s better to start with the basic projects to learn the fundamentals. If you try to tackle something too large in your early days then you might find yourself getting overwhelmed.

Good luck with whatever you plan on building, and don’t forget to enjoy yourself!

How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

How to change to creative mode in Minecraf

If don’t know already, when you create a Minecraft world you have to select your game mode and that one becomes fixed for the lifetime of the world you play in. But what if you want to change it? Could it be possible that there is no other way to do it? Well, if you are wondering  how to change to creative mode in Minecraft , then this article is exactly for you! Here, we are going to present you with a step-by-step instruction on how to switch your game mode.

If you never played Minecraft before, you should know that when you create a new world you have to select your game mode. You can choose one from creative, survival, and hardcore modes. You would think that this selection is fixed because of a permanent flag which is set within the world file. But it’s not that simple.

Minecraft lends itself to creativity and changing playstyles, and you may think somewhere throughout the game that the map you intended to make a creative one actually feels like it would be a perfect survival map – or vice versa. Perhaps, you’d want to start playing in creative mode which is easier if you want to build your home base and then switch to survival mode to go on and take on the world from the comfort of your newly built castle.

Whatever your desire is, it’s rather a straightforward process. We personally prefer this technique, which is not permanent, so that you can change things up whenever you want to!

Changing Game Modes with the LAN Trick

This technique you might already be familiar with. It is considered an old hat to some Minecraft players, yet we think that it’s definitely worth mentioning as it is a very hasty and simple technique that you can use without any advanced editing or secondary programs.

image 1 How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

This is a picture of a test survival world that we have created for this tutorial. You can see the hearts and hunger meter above the experience and item bar.  The world was born and bred as survival when we made it and it will stay the same.  But  we can temporarily skirt those rules if we opened the game to the LAN for network play (don’t worry – you can still use it even if you don’t intend on playing it with others).

image 2 How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

Hit the “Escape” button to pull up the game menu and then click “Open to LAN.”

image 3 How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

Once you find yourself in the LAN World menu, the only option you should draw your attention to is toggling Allow Cheats to “On.” Just like the header implies, these are the settings intended for other players, and if you proceed to change the game mode here it will only change the game mode for the incoming players that connect to your LAN world. However, if you have toggled the cheats on it will then apply to all players in the game, including you! Click the “Start LAN World” button once you have toggled the cheats on.

image 4 How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

When you are back in the game, you should press the “t” key which will bring up the ingame console box. Then you should enter the “/gamemode c” command that will change your game mode to creative.  If at some point, you want to switch back to the survival mode, you should use the “/gamemode s” command.

image 5 How to change to creative mode in Minecraft

Look at the hearts, hunger, and experience meter. It is no longer there. Despite you have the survival mode flag on, you are now in creative mode, which you can enjoy to the fullest.  This trick allows you to temporarily switch the game mode of both survival and creative mode games. It can also be used if you want to turn the hardcore mode into a creative one.

If you are not sure what switching the game modes will do, turning a hardcore game into a creative one creates a weird sort of hybrid that allows you get all the powers that come with the creative mode,  but  if you were to die in it, which happens either by falling into the void or using the /kill command on yourself, you’d lose your whole world just like you would in regular hardcore mode.

If you want to make a permanent and global change to the world you are playing in, you’ll need to do a bit of editing in the guts of the save file.

And if you desperately want to give your character a new look, then you should go on and  download Minecraft skins  from a nice website!

10 Proven Ways to Make Better Minecraft Builds

M inecraft’s limitless creativity and architectural possibilities give players a vast opportunity to showcase their building prowess. Whether it’s a larger-than-life castle or a dainty little cottage, the art of building can be complex, and mastering it would need you to be creative, plan strategically, and understand the intricacies of in-game mechanics. And if you are eager to make stunning builds, here are 10 ways to get better at it.

Top 10 ways to make better Minecraft builds

1. find good locations.

Scouting the right location is key to spectacular Minecraft building . The surroundings of your build can majorly enhance its context and appeal. For example, a castle would look more majestic on top of a hill, while a cottage would be the ideal fit amidst a forest. This location scouting involves considering the availability of resources, natural landscape, and how well you can integrate your build with its surrounding biome.

2. Use creative test worlds

Creative test worlds offer unrestricted access to Minecraft game blocks, and hence, using them is an indispensable strategy if you’re a builder. With a creative test world, you can experiment extensively without any resource constraints, meaning you can explore various block combinations, fly around your constructions, and get a comprehensive view of your design.

3. Add depth to the structure

Depth-adding is an imperative technique to transform a flat surface into a highly visual and dynamic facade. A builder can do this by creating layers in their build, like setting a block forward or backward from the main wall. The more depth you add to your build, the more aesthetically pleasing and engaging it will be.

4. Incorporate movement

Bringing movement and life into your Minecraft build can drastically improve its appeal. You can do this by adding dynamic elements like growing plants, flowing water, or even moving creatures like villagers or animals. Moreover, incorporating moving parts like a rollercoaster or working gate will further add an interactive dimension to make your build more interesting.

5. Diversify your block usage

Using a diverse range of textures and blocks is key to Minecraft building. This involves going beyond basic block types and exploring different material palettes to figure out what works and create a fantastic build. Minecraft offers numerous block textures and colors, which, when creatively blended, can help in creating unique and striking builds .

6. Make varied shapes

Minecraft is all about architectural diversity, especially when it comes to builds. Instead of sticking to mere geometric shapes, you can experiment with different structural elements to make your builds more attractive. Play around with elements like balconies, towers, or disproportionately shaped rooms, and trust us, you won’t regret it. It’s all about going crazy to break the monotony and letting your creative expression take flight.

7. Practice texturing

Texturing builds is a subtle yet powerful method to add more depth and detail to them. This involves using various similar block types to give off a nuanced appearance, such as mixing different stone blocks, like mossy cobblestone and cracked stone bricks, to give a wall a more aged and weathered look.

8. Use pathways to connect builds

Create pathways between your builds and you’ll see just how enhanced and cohesive your Minecraft world becomes. Pathways are necessary as they offer purpose and connectivity, guiding players between various areas of a build. You can create simple or elaborate pathways, made from different materials like stone, wood, or gravel, and even line with them plants, lights, and other decorative items .

9. Strike a balance between functionality and looks

Balancing aesthetic appeal and practicality is key to creating masterful builds in Minecraft. While it’s important to create a structure that’s visually stunning, you must also ensure that it’s livable and functional (especially in the survival mode). For example, a gorgeous house must also comprise sufficient storage for crafting, sleeping, and storage.

10. Detail your build

Lastly, enhancing your Minecraft build also depends a lot on how detailed you make it. You can add small decorative items to transform a simple-looking house into an intricate haven that is inviting to everyone around. This includes adding features like archways, window frames, and roof trimmings, along with interior decor such as furniture and fireplaces.

Firstly, you'll want to execute  op {your username}   in the Minehut control panel's console area. This will give you full operator permissions (feel free to watch this video for a tutorial on that). Next, in your server, do  /gamemode creative , this will put you into Creative. If you want to put your friend into Creative, do   /gamemode creative {friend's username} .

Also, next time, please be sure to make inquiries in the  Community Support  category.

Thanks

Since we all play Minecraft differently, my dream of exploring the Overworld on a pogo stick might, strangely enough, not be yours. With add-ons, you get to change your game, your way! So whether it’s more cuteness, convenience, creepiness, or chaos you're looking for, you can now add it to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition no matter which device you play on. The best thing is you don’t have to pick because add-ons can be combined ! Although, maybe the actual best thing is that you don’t have to be tech savvy to install them – you just download the content from Minecraft Marketplace .

To celebrate this momentous moment, and for you to take these for a test spin yourself, we’re giving away a free collection of add-ons . It’s settled – that is the best of all!

Download your free add-ons

Starting right now, you can download the first of many creator-made add-ons from Minecraft Marketplace . There are plenty of both free and premium ones available already, so let’s dig into what some of them include.

All the Wool – free!   By Jigarbov Productions

All the Wool add-ons featuring wool blocks in all colors

One of my strongest Minecraft memories was the first ever time I spotted a pink sheep. When I say I gasped, I’m not joking. Well, I’m about to gasp again because this add-on has sparkly pink wool ! One of over a hundred types of wools you can add to your worlds. Not to mention the vehicwool you can drive around!

Spark pets – free! By Spark Universe

A hamster, cat, and hedgehog from the Spark Pets add-ons

You will always love your (some might say unnecessarily large, I say reasonably sized) wolf pack, but there’s always room for more pets. Ten different species to be exact! I mean, how could you resist adopting a blocky hedgehog? Or a little capybara? Or why not a guinea pig?! And listen to this – you can even teach them tricks!

Another Furniture – free! By Starfish Studios

A grandfather clock, a sofa, a lamp, and other furniture add-ons

Whilst the No Chair Policy is still very much in place in the Mojang offices, at least add-ons will let me add them into the Overworld. And chairs aren’t the only thing you can add! Another Furniture by Starfish Studios has 20+ furniture and decorations you can add to upgrade your blocky home. Like the couch potato I am, I have my eyes set on the sofas. Ah, sweet respite!

Spark Portals (premium) By Spark Universe

Two players jumping out of a purple portal

Tired of dipping in and out of the Nether just to get to places faster? I'm not because I'd rather take the slow Overworld route, but here's great news for both of us: now there's a better way to travel! Portals, in all kinds of colors. Link them up across all far corners of your worlds to travel around faster. No more sore fingers, my friends!

Computers (premium) By Jigarbov

A player in front of a computer add-on

Apart from looking very cool, these blocky computers let you do cool things! Like sending emails to other players in bases far away, playing hilarious computer games, or tracking monsters. Who doesn’t love playing a video game inside a video game?

Hiker’s Friend By Razzleberries

Hiker's Friend add-ons for camping and exploring

This is one is for the hikers! Or maybe what will finally convert those who hate hiking? Granted, a walking stick looks cool, but do they do anything? If you want to get places quicker, they sure do! Add in a climbing pick to take on any mountain, sleeping bags for camping under the stars, and hand-held lanterns to conquer my fear of darkness and I’m officially a happy camper!

Start customizing your gaming session now

Okay, that was a lot of information and still only a glimpse into all the things you can do with add-ons. If you have any questions, swing by the add-ons help page where you can get all the details about installing and using add-ons. And if you run into any hiccups or have general feedback to share, we'd love to hear your thoughts .

Discover all the ways you can switch up your gameplay and craft new experiences with add-ons at Minecraft Marketplace . And don't be afraid to get a little wild, a little quirky, and a whole lot creative – after all, that's what Minecraft and add-ons are all about!

*Requires the latest version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition with access to Minecraft Marketplace (sold separately).

Minecraft Trapped Chest: How to Make and Use It

' src=

  • Trapped chest is a chest variant that also acts as a redstone component in Minecraft.
  • To make it, you need a regular chest and a tripwire hook. Combine them in a crafting grid to get a trapped chest.
  • This chest transits redstone signal to all four sides when it's opened and also downwards, allowing you to make a trash system, TNT traps, and more.

What Is a Trapped Chest?

Single and large trapped chests

Items Needed to Make a Trapped Chest

  • Regular chest
  • Tripwire hook

Chest is a simple storage block you can make with eight planks on a crafting table. Tripwire hook is an item you can make with one stick, one iron ingot, and one plank. Crafting table is not required for making a trapped chest as your inventory’s 2×2 crafting grid is also viable.

How to Craft a Trapped Chest

  • Open your inventory with the E key. You can use a crafting table if you have it handy.
  • Place the chest and tripwire hook wherever you want inside the 2×2 crafting grid. This recipe is completely shapeless, so the position of these items doesn’t matter.
  • After you do that, the trapped chest icon will appear on the right. You can craft it by clicking on it.

Trashcan System

The trapped chest will make sure no items leave the chest until you close the interface. So, if you accidentally throw something that you want to keep, you can safely retrieve it without it getting destroyed.
