Centuries prior to the French Revolution, the " World Formula " theory was proposed by Paracelsus which posited that the world was governed by mathematical formulas whose variables could be identified and altered. He aspired to change these variables in an attempt to erase suffering and bring happiness to humanity, which resulted in the event known as " Babel ." Innumerable calamities rocked the world to its core, causing massive amounts of death, and once it subsided new entities came into being in the world, primely the Vampire species . Deemed abominations before God, normal humans attempted to wipe out these new beings, and a race war ensued. This attempted genocide failed and Vampires began to hide their existences which came to be believed as no more than myth and legend, despite dwelling only one step beyond the human world.

Noé Archiviste , a young vampire living in late 19th century France, is sent by his Teacher to Paris to find the Book of Vanitas and discover its true nature. Supposedly, the Book of Vanitas is a cursed grimoire created by the Vampire of the Blue Moon from which the incurable disease Malnomen originates. Noé successfully discovers the Book on his way to Paris, as well as the person possessing it—a human calling himself Vanitas who uses the grimoire to cure Malnomen. Vanitas declares his goal to be the salvation of the entire race of Vampires, and Noé accompanies him for his entire journey, wishing to understand the true nature of not only the Book but also the enigmatic owner who wields it.

The story consists of Noé's memoirs on how he would come to eventually kill Vanitas with his own hands.

Terminology [ ]

Vampires [ ].

Though referred to as "vampires," the Vampire race within The Case Study of Vanitas are distinct from mythical vampires, and were in fact named after them for having certain similarities. The main distinguishing feature between Vampires and humans is the ability of Vampires to see and interact with the World Formula , allowing them certain superhuman abilities. Unlike mythical vampires, Vampires within The Case Study of Vanitas do not have to drink blood or harm others to survive, and the vast majority go their entire lives without harming humans. While most (but not all) Vampires do enjoy the taste of blood, it is not a biological need, and is compared to alcohol, smoking, or sex. Compulsive blood drinking only occurs in the case of blood addiction or Malnomen .

Most Vampires are born under the Crimson Moon, and have a natural fear of the Blue Moon. Those who are born under the Blue Moon, as in the case of Vanitas of the Blue Moon , are scorned and ostracized by other Vampirekind.

The Book of Vanitas [ ]

A cursed grimoire supposedly passed on to Vanitas by Vanitas of the Blue Moon themself. It is the originator of the disease Malnomen, created in revenge against Vampires for their prosecution of those born under the Blue Moon. The human Vanitas now has the Book of Vanitas within his possession and is the only person capable of using it. However, contrary to the Book's original purpose, Vanitas uses it to cure cases of Malnomen and desires to save the Vampire race.

Malnomen [ ]

A disease created by Vanitas of the Blue Moon . It attacks the True Name of vampires, causing their bodies and souls to warp. Those infected with Malnomen, usually called curse bearers, gradually grow insane and begin to obsessively search for blood, escalating until they assault and even kill others without hesitation. In addition, their bodies will corrupt, though the onset of physical symptoms appear to happen rapidly in the final stages of the disease. Once warping of the body occurs, the curse bearer will continue to attack others until it dies. Until very recently, there was no possible way to cure those infected with Malnomen, and thus all curse bearers would be sentenced to execution by decapitation once their condition was discovered. The human Vanitas reverse engineers the different forms of Malnomen to find and restore the curse bearer's True Name, curing them.

The Case Study of Vanitas is written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki and began serialization in Square Enix's monthly shōnen magazine Monthly Gangan Joker on December 2015. There are currently nine tankōbon volumes collecting serial chapters released in Japanese. The series is licensed in English by Yen Press and published simultaneously with its Japanese release.

The Case Study of Vanitas is an anime television series adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. On March 28, 2021, Aniplex announced at AnimeJapan an anime adaptation for the manga, animated by the studio BONES. It started broadcasting on July 2, 2021.

Stage Play [ ]

Stage "Vanitas no Carte" is a stage play adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. Announced by the official Twitter account on October 28, 2021. The show was initially scheduled from January 21st to January 30th, 2022 at the THEATRE1010 (シアター1010), in Tokyo, Japan. An encore was performed from March 10th to March 12th, 2023 at the Sunshine Theater (サンシャイン劇場), in Tokyo, Japan.

case study of vanitas 9

I said last week that there is nothing scarier than a fanatic. This week it's still true, but also worth remembering that that's where the idea of being a “fan” of something comes from, because our pal Roland is definitely a little bit of both, possibly even verging over into stan territory when it comes to Vanitas. He seems to recognize the other man the minute he hears his name, which suggests that he very likely did know a younger Vanitas once upon a time. Because before Vanitas became the somewhat frustrating man we know, he was intended for the church – in the Chasseur sense, of course.

Vanitas' backstory almost takes us into Vampire Knight territory, what with his parents having been killed by vampires and all. That he was brought into the church instead of being turned is more a mark of how the two series differ in their vampire lore than anything; what's more interesting is that Vanitas didn't complete his training but instead ended up siding with the vampires. The reason for that makes a lot of sense when we hear that he “caught the eye” of a scientist working with the Chasseurs – trust me, you'd rather catch the eye of Victor Frankenstein than Dr. Moreau.

Yes, I do think we're talking about that Dr. Moreau, the one with the island in H. G. Wells' 1896 science fiction novel The Island of Dr. Moreau . One of literature's great mad scientists, Dr. Moreau was a vivisectionist working on splicing humans and animals together to create a new race of beings he called Beast Folk, and possibly accidentally creating furries in the distant future. Since we already know that the Chasseurs inject a special drug into their systems that gives them enhanced strength, it's not really a stretch to assume that this is what the good doctor was doing before he escaped to that island in the Pacific where Edward Prendick found him, and actually that lines up pretty well with the time the show is set in. It was Moreau that turned Vanitas into a vampire ally, which implies, even without next week's episode's French title of “cicatrice” (scar), that Moreau showed him that the real monsters are the humans.

That's something that clearly never occurred to 99% of the humans in this show. It isn't hard to see why – vampires go out of their way to blend in most of the time, so the only ones humans are likely to recognize are the curse-bearers, who are too far gone to control their bloodlust. It's an interesting statement on vampire lore, because it implies that most vampires really aren't a threat – they're just like the majority of humans, people . It's only when they're essentially rabid that they're a problem. But if you only ever heard about or met dangerous vampires, then that's what you'd think all vampires were. It's this assumption that seems to have created the animosity between the two races, and like with most things, the fanatics took it too far and ruined human/vampire relations for everyone.

All of this makes Roland's shock and delight at Noé's intelligence and reasonableness both a lovely surprise and cause for alarm. Does he truly accept that Noé is, for lack of a better word, a person and all that implies, or is he treating Noé like a dog who can shake hands? He does seem to be upset that Dr. Moreau is still around, which could mean that he understands that Moreau is much more of a threat than Noé. But Roland is a true fanatic – his crazed smile, the glow in his eyes, and even his cheery way of speaking all point to him having very much imbibed the Kool-Aid that the church was offering. He could simply be going along with Noé because it gives him access to Vanitas, who can lead him to Moreau. (And more time with Vanitas means that Roland may think he has more time to win him back.) This truce may be of shorter duration than it currently seems, although that likely depends on just how twisted this version of Dr. Moreau is…and how much Vanitas' past experiences with him will make him vulnerable when that's the worst thing that he could possibly be.

Case study definition

case study of vanitas 9

Case study, a term which some of you may know from the "Case Study of Vanitas" anime and manga, is a thorough examination of a particular subject, such as a person, group, location, occasion, establishment, phenomena, etc. They are most frequently utilized in research of business, medicine, education and social behaviour. There are a different types of case studies that researchers might use:

• Collective case studies

• Descriptive case studies

• Explanatory case studies

• Exploratory case studies

• Instrumental case studies

• Intrinsic case studies

Case studies are usually much more sophisticated and professional than regular essays and courseworks, as they require a lot of verified data, are research-oriented and not necessarily designed to be read by the general public.

How to write a case study?

It very much depends on the topic of your case study, as a medical case study and a coffee business case study have completely different sources, outlines, target demographics, etc. But just for this example, let's outline a coffee roaster case study. Firstly, it's likely going to be a problem-solving case study, like most in the business and economics field are. Here are some tips for these types of case studies:

• Your case scenario should be precisely defined in terms of your unique assessment criteria.

• Determine the primary issues by analyzing the scenario. Think about how they connect to the main ideas and theories in your piece.

• Find and investigate any theories or methods that might be relevant to your case.

• Keep your audience in mind. Exactly who are your stakeholder(s)? If writing a case study on coffee roasters, it's probably gonna be suppliers, landlords, investors, customers, etc.

• Indicate the best solution(s) and how they should be implemented. Make sure your suggestions are grounded in pertinent theories and useful resources, as well as being realistic, practical, and attainable.

• Carefully proofread your case study. Keep in mind these four principles when editing: clarity, honesty, reality and relevance.

The Case Study of Vanitas

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a blue full moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the "Book of Vanitas," a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes at least. Vanitas no Carte follows Noé, a young man travelling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé's surprise, a completely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. But behind his kind demeanor lies something a bit more sinister... [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The Case Study of Vanitas 10

Artist: Jun Mochizuki

Letterer: Bianca Pistillo

Translated by: Taylor Engel

Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend's salvation, to Paris. Some virtual care companies putting patient data at risk, new study finds

Canadian researchers have patient privacy concerns as industry grows post-covid.

This story is part of CBC Health's Second Opinion, a weekly analysis of health and medical science news emailed to subscribers on Saturday mornings. If you haven't subscribed yet, you can do that by  clicking here .

If you visit a doctor virtually through a commercial app, the information you submit in the app could be used to promote a particular drug or service, says the leader of a new Canadian study involving industry insiders.

The industry insiders "were concerned that care might not be designed to be the best care for patients, but rather might be designed to increase uptake of the drug or vaccine to meet the pharmaceutical company objectives," said Dr. Sheryl Spithoff, a physician and scientist at Women's College Hospital in Toronto.

Virtual care took off as a convenient way to access health care during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing patients to consult with a doctor by videoconference, phone call or text.

It's estimated that more than one in five adults in Canada —  or 6.5 million people — don't have a family physician or nurse practitioner they can see regularly, and virtual care is helping to fill the void.

But the study's researchers and others who work in the medical field have raised concerns that some virtual care companies aren't adequately protecting patients' private health information from being used by drug companies and shared with third parties that want to market products and services.

Spithoff co-authored the study in this week's BMJ Open , based on interviews with 18 individuals employed or affiliated with the Canadian virtual care industry between October 2021 and January 2022. The researchers also analyzed 31 privacy documents from the websites of more than a dozen companies.

The for-profit virtual care industry valued patient data and "appears to view data as a revenue stream," the researchers found.

One employee with a virtual care platform told the researchers that the platform, "at the behest of the pharmaceutical company, would conduct 'A/B testing' by putting out a new version of software to a percentage of patients to see if the new version improved uptake of the drug."

Many virtual care apps pushing products, selling personal data, research finds

Concerns about how data might be shared.

Matthew Herder, director of the Health Law Institute at Dalhousie University in Halifax, said he hopes the study draws the public's attention to what's behind some of these platforms.

"All of this is happening because of a business model that sees value in collecting that data and using it in a variety of ways that have little to do with patient care and more to do in building up the assets of that company," Herder said.

Bearded man standing in front of a chalkboard.

Other industry insiders were concerned about how data, such as browsing information, might be shared with third parties such as Google and Meta, the owner of Facebook, for marketing purposes, Spithoff said.

The study's authors said companies placed data in three categories:

  • Registration data, such as name, email address and date of birth.
  • User data, such as how, when and where you use the website, on what device and your internet protocol or IP address.
  • De-identified personal health information, such as removing the name and date of birth and modifying the postal code.

Some companies considered the first two categories as assets that could be monetized, employees told the researchers.

  • Many Canadians welcomed virtual health care. Where does it fit in the system now?
  • Virtual urgent care didn't divert Ontario patients from ER visits during pandemic, study suggests

Not all of the companies treated the third category the same way. Some used personal health information only for the primary purpose of a patient's virtual exchange with a physician, while others used it for commercial reasons, sharing analytics or de-identified information with third parties.

The study's authors said while each individual data point may not provide much information, advertisers and data analytic companies amalgamate data from browsing history and social media accounts to provide insights into an individual's mental health status, for example.

One study participant described how a partnership for targeted ads might work: "If an individual is coming through our service looking for mental health resources, how can we lean them into some of our partnerships with corporate counselling services?"

Nurses’ union says virtual care is a move toward privatization of health care

Conflict-of-interest questions.

Lorian Hardcastle, an associate professor of law and medicine at the University of Calgary, studied  uptake of virtual care in 2020. She highlighted issues of continuity of care, privacy legislation and consent policies.

Since then, she said, uptake in virtual care accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I think that the commercialization of the health-care system raises concerns around conflicts of interest between what is best for patients on the one hand and then on the other hand, what has the best return for shareholders," said Hardcastle, who was not involved in the BMJ Open study.

A woman with long brown hair wearing a blouse and jacket.

Hardcastle said it is helpful to have industry insiders acknowledge problems that health professionals and academics have expressed about commercialization.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which funded the study, said in an email that privately funded health professionals are generally considered to be conducting commercial activities.

Hospitals, long-term care facilities and home care services that are publicly funded are not considered to be engaged in commercial activities and are covered by provincial privacy legislation, the office said. Health information falls into many categories and may be subject to different privacy laws across various jurisdictions.

Hardcastle also suggested that self-regulatory bodies, such as provincial colleges of physicians and surgeons, may need to revisit policies around relationships between health providers and industry.

Virtual care industry responds

CBC News heard from some Canadian virtual care companies that said they take the privacy of individuals seriously.

"Patient data is only used with patients' explicit consent and only when it's required for health-care interactions between a patient and a doctor," a spokesperson for virtual care platform Maple said. "We do not exploit patient data for marketing or commercial gain."

  • Is virtual care a cure for Canada's battered health-care system?

In a statement, Rocket Doctor said it is important to note that the company "does not do any of the things listed by the researchers as common in the telehealth industry."

Telus said that all of the data collected from its virtual care service is treated as personal health information.

"Telus Health doesn't receive any funds from pharmaceutical companies for our virtual care service and we do not sell any patient data collected," said Pamela Snively, the company's chief data and trust officer.

Source of information hard to pin down

Hardcastle said it may be difficult for some people to distinguish between receiving reliable and accurate information from a health-care provider on an app and getting services marketed to them that the health provider may or may not find useful.

"Your family doctor isn't trying to collect superfluous information in order to market services to you," she said.

Some provinces and territories pay for the virtual services. In other cases, patients pay themselves or are covered by employer or private insurance.

  • Patients tapping into alternative care options, but N.S. emergency departments still face challenges

Nova Scotia's government, for example, has a contract with Maple to provide residents without a primary care provider with unlimited virtual visits. Those who do have a regular provider can have two visits per year paid for by the province.

Tara Sampalli, senior scientific director at Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub, said the province's contract with Maple means residents' data can't be used in other ways, such as by third-party providers.

The province doesn't have that level of control over other providers of virtual care, said Sampalli, who holds a PhD in health informatics.

Calls for an opt-out choice

Herder, of Dalhousie University, said users should be able to easily opt out of having their data used for commercial purposes. He also said that if the data doesn't represent the full diversity of Canada, algorithms shaping clinical decision-making could be racially biased.

Spithoff said while patient awareness is important, patients aren't in a position to fix this problem.

  • 140,000 Nova Scotians are waiting for a family doctor. Can virtual care help?

"We need better legislation, regulation, and we need better funding for primary care," she said. "Or people can get virtual care integrated into their offline care."

Spithoff and her co-authors said self-regulation by the industry is unlikely to lead to change.

The researchers acknowledged they were limited to publicly available documents and that they did not interview those affiliated with the third-party advertisers.

Biden responds angrily to special counsel report questioning his memory

President declares his memory is ‘fine’ and blasts counsel for suggesting he does not know when his son died.

President Biden on Thursday night gave an emotional and at times angry response to a special counsel’s report questioning his memory, addressing the nation hours after the release of the report that painted a devastating picture of his mental agility even as it said he would not be charged for mishandling classified documents.

“I’m well-meaning, and I’m an elderly man — and I know what the hell I’m doing,” he declared from the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House, as he shouted at times, jousted with reporters and gave responses that verged on sarcasm.

Biden was responding to a comment in the report that he can come off as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

The president, who is 81, grew particularly emotional recounting a line from special counsel Robert K. Hur’s report that suggested he did not recall the year in which his son Beau had passed away. Beau Biden died of cancer in 2015, when his father was vice president.

“There’s even [a] reference that I don’t remember when my son died,” Biden said. “How in the hell dare he raise that?”

The president said he remembers his son’s death every day. “Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself it wasn’t any of their damn business,” he said. “I don’t need anyone to remind me of when he passed away.”

Capping a tumultuous afternoon, the White House scrambled to put together the address on short notice, notifying reporters just 20 minutes before it was to take place. Biden’s aides seemed taken aback by the furor caused by the report’s stark comments about his memory, saying it was “significantly limited” and that he had “limited precision and recall.”

Privately, Biden was also furious about the report’s comments on his memory. During a private meeting with House Democrats at their policy retreat in Virginia earlier Thursday, Biden grew especially animated when asked how he was doing.

“How the f--- could I forget the day my son died? Of course I remember everything,” he said, according to two people with knowledge of his remarks who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a closed-door conversation.

At his White House remarks, Biden began by stressing that the report concluded that charges were not merited, even citing specific page numbers to bolster his case.

“I was pleased to see he reached the firm conclusion that no charges should be brought against me in this case,” the president said. “This was an exhaustive investigation.”

He also highlighted a separate investigation into former president Donald Trump’s own handling of classified documents, and the differences between them — notably that Trump allegedly sought to keep the documents even when authorities asked for them back and that he, unlike Biden, now faces criminal charges.

“I was especially pleased to see special counsel make clear the stark distinction and difference between this case and Mr. Trump’s case,” Biden said.

Later, when asked if he took responsibility for being careless with classified material, he largely pointed to his staff.

“I take responsibility for not having seen exactly what my staff was doing,” Biden said. “Things that appeared in my garage, things that came out of my home, things that were moved — were moved not by me but by my staff. By my staff.”

Later he added, “I didn’t know how half the boxes got in my garage, until I found out staff gathered them up, put them together and took them to the garage in my home.”

His home, he noted, is a private residence, unlike Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, which doubles as a club for members. “It was in my house,” he said. “It wasn’t like, in Mar-a-Lago, in a public place.”

The comments punctuated a remarkable moment in the Biden presidency. The nation’s oldest president has been fighting off voters’ concerns about his age as he prepares to seek reelection against his predecessor — who at 77 is also elderly — only to see a prosecutor’s document unexpectedly and, his aides say, gratuitously renew those concerns in a stark way.

During his address, Biden spoke without a teleprompter. He took questions from an animated press corps, even coming back to the lectern to answer additional queries being fired at him. He repeatedly downplayed concerns that voters have about his age and rebutted any notion that he has lost a mental step.

“Look, my memory has not gotten — my memory is fine,” he said. “Take a look at what I’ve done since I’ve become president. None of you thought I could pass any of the things I got passed. How’d that happen? You know, I guess I just forgot what was going on.”

At a time when some Democrats have expressed concern about the risks of keeping him as the nominee, he was asked why it had to be him.

“I’m the most qualified person in this country to be president of the United States and finish the job I started,” Biden shot back.

When he returned to answer a final question, however, criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in perhaps his harshest terms yet, he appeared to again have a verbal stumble. While speaking about aid to Palestinians facing an Israeli bombardment in Gaza, he referred to President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi of Egypt but misstated the country he represents.

“As you know, the president of Mexico, Sisi, did not want to open the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in,” Biden said. “I talked to him. I convinced him to open the gate.”

Journal Retracts Studies Cited in Federal Court Ruling Against Abortion Pill

The journal found that the studies, which had suggested that medication abortion is unsafe, included incorrect factual assumptions and misleading presentation of the data.

By Pam Belluck

An academic journal publisher this week retracted two studies that were cited by a federal judge in Texas last year when he ruled that the abortion pill mifepristone should be taken off the market .

Most of the authors of the studies are doctors and researchers affiliated with anti-abortion groups, and their reports suggested that medication abortion causes dangerous complications, contradicting the widespread evidence that abortion pills are safe .

The lawsuit in which the studies were cited will be heard by the Supreme Court in March. The high court’s ruling could have major implications for access to medication abortion, which is now the most common method of pregnancy termination.

The publisher, Sage Journals, said it had asked two independent experts to evaluate the studies, published in 2021 and 2022 in the journal Health Services Research and Managerial Epidemiology, after a reader raised concerns.

Sage said both experts had “identified fundamental problems with the study design and methodology, unjustified or incorrect factual assumptions, material errors in the authors’ analysis of the data, and misleading presentations of the data that, in their opinions, demonstrate a lack of scientific rigor and invalidate the authors’ conclusions in whole or in part.”

The publisher also retracted a third study by many of the same authors that was published in 2019 in the same journal, which did not figure in the mifepristone lawsuit.

Sage said that when it had begun examining the 2021 study, it confirmed that most of the authors had listed affiliations with “pro-life advocacy organizations” but had “declared they had no conflicts of interest when they submitted the article for publication or in the article itself.”

Sage said it had also learned that one of the reviewers who evaluated the article for publication was affiliated with the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research arm of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.

The institute denied that the studies were flawed, as did the lead author, James Studnicki, who is vice president and director of data analytics at the institute.

“Sage is targeting us,” Dr. Studnicki, who has a doctor of science degree and a master’s degree in public health, said in a video defending the team’s work.

Noting that the studies had been used in legal actions, he said: “We have become visible, people are quoting us, and for that reason we are dangerous, and for that reason they want to cancel our work. What happened to us has little or nothing to do with real science and has everything to do with political assassination.”

In a statement, Dr. Studnicki said, “The authors will be taking appropriate legal action,” but he did not specify what that would be.

The lawsuit seeking to bar mifepristone — the first pill in the two-drug medication abortion regimen — was filed against the Food and Drug Administration by a consortium of groups and doctors who oppose abortion. In fighting the lawsuit, the federal government has defended its approval and regulation of mifepristone, provided years of evidence that the pill is safe and effective and argued that the plaintiffs have no legal standing to sue because they are not abortion providers and have not been harmed by mifepristone’s availability.

In his opinion last April, Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk cited the 2021 study to support his conclusion that the plaintiffs had legal standing to sue. That study reported a higher rate of emergency room visits after medication abortions than after procedural abortions. Citing it, Judge Kacsmaryk wrote that the plaintiffs “have standing because they allege adverse events from chemical abortion drugs can overwhelm the medical system and place ‘enormous pressure and stress’ on doctors during emergencies and complications.”

In another section of his ruling, Judge Kacsmaryk cited the 2022 study, writing that “plaintiffs allege ‘many intense side effects’ and ‘significant complications requiring medical attention’ resulting from Defendants’ actions.”

Judge Kacsmaryk’s opinion was criticized by many legal experts, and an appeals court struck parts of it but said significant restrictions should be placed on mifepristone that would prevent it from being mailed or prescribed by telemedicine.

Legal experts said it was unclear if Sage’s action would affect the Supreme Court’s decision. Mary Ziegler, a law professor at the University of California, Davis, said the retractions might simply “reinforce a position they were already ready to take.”

For example, she said, there were already strong arguments that the plaintiffs lacked legal standing, so if a justice was “willing to overlook all that other stuff, you may be willing to overlook the retractions too,” she said. For justices already “bothered by various other problems with standing, you probably were potentially going to say the plaintiffs didn’t have standing as it was.”

Similarly, she said, some justices would already have concluded that the vast majority of studies show mifepristone is safe, so if a justice was “prepared to say that, notwithstanding the weight of the evidence, mifepristone is really dangerous, you could easily do that again if you lose a couple of studies.”
