4 MA Programs in Creative Writing in Asia 2024

Many creative writing programs supplement classroom instruction with interactive hands-on events, so students can see writing in action. Students are encouraged to attend theater performances, poetry readings, film screenings and prose performances throughout the surrounding community.

The Programme

The Asia Creative Writing Programme helps develop beginning, emerging, intermediate and advanced writers in Singapore across all of the nation’s four official languages Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil  by:

• bringing Visiting Writers and translators to Singapore, who are widely regarded as experts or masters in their field and experienced in teaching creative writing
• running courses, workshops, masterclasses, critique groups, seminars and lectures
• providing mentorship and consultations for writers
• assisting writers conducting research and other literary activities
• providing a supportive and encouraging community for writers

The Programme seeks to address gaps, needs and development opportunities  for writers across the Singapore literary community. Our emphasis is on the craft of creative writing and we hope to complement existing writing groups and approaches in Singapore by providing unique development opportunities for writers in Asia.

In 2021 and 2022 our focus areas include historical fiction, creative non-fiction, literary fiction, genre fiction, advanced poetry, cross genre writing, transnational writing, editing, children’s and young adult fiction . Given the impact of the COVID pandemic our planning has been revised so our current courses and events represent the start of a journey rather than the destination.

“亚洲创意写作项目” 会通过下列方式为使用新加坡四种官方语言（华文、英文、马来文和淡米尔文）写作的本土写作人提供支援。这其中既包括初学新手和新生代，也包括中生代和资深写作人：

• 聘请 驻校作家和翻译家 来新加坡。这些作家和翻译家是各领域公认的专家或名家，并且具有丰富的创意写作教学经验；
• 开设课程、工作坊、大师班、评议论坛、研讨会和讲座；
• 为写作人提供引导和咨询的机会；
• 协助写作人开展研究和其他文学活动；
• 建立一个支援和鼓励写作人发展的社群。

 本项目将设法处理新加坡文坛的 缺漏、需求和发展机遇 问题。我们重视创意写作的技艺，希望为亚洲作家提供独一无二的发展机会，并以此增强新加坡本地现有的写作群体实力及其写作表达方式。

在2021年和2022年，我们将重点聚焦于 历史小说、创意非虚构写作、纯文学小说、类型小说、诗歌、跨文类写作、跨国写作与编辑，以及儿童和青少年小说 。鉴于冠病疫情的影响，我们的计划一直在调整，因此目前所呈现的课程内容和活动仅仅只是这一趟旅程的开始，而非终点。

Program Penulisan Kreatif Asia   membantu untuk membangunkan penulis yang baru bermula, memuncul, peringkat pertengahan dan peringkat lanjutan di Singapura merentasi keempat-empat bahasa rasmi negara, Bahasa Cina, Inggeris, Melayu dan Tamil dengan:

• membawa   Penulis Pelawat dan penterjemah   yang dianggap secara meluas sebagai pakar atau ahli unggul dalam bidang mereka dan berpengalaman mengajar penulisan kreatif ke Singapura
• mengendalikan kursus, bengkel, kelas pakar, kumpulan kritik, seminar dan kuliah
• menyediakan bimbingan mentor dan perundingan untuk penulis
• membantu penulis mengendalikan penyelidikan dan aktiviti sastera yang lain
• menyediakan komuniti yang memberikan sokongan dan galakan kepada penulis

Program ini berhasrat untuk menangani   jurang, keperluan dan peluang pembangunan   untuk penulis di seluruh komuniti kesusasteraan Singapura. Penekanan kami adalah pada kemahiran penulisan kreatif dan kami berharap untuk melengkapi kumpulan penulisan dan pendekatan yang sedia ada di Singapura dengan memberikan peluang pembangunan yang unik kepada penulis di Asia.

Pada tahun 2021 dan 2022, bahagian tumpuan kami merangkumi   fiksyen sejarah, kreatif bukan fiksyen, fiksyen kesusasteraan, fiksyen genre, puisi peringkat lanjutan, penulisan silang genre, penulisan transnasional, suntingan, fiksyen kanak-kanak dan remaja . Disebabkan impak pandemik COVID, perancangan kami telah disemak semula supaya kursus dan acara semasa kami mewakili permulaan perjalanan dan bukannya destinasi.
