Xfinity Internet is the home broadband service of Comcast, a major media and technology company. Late in 2022, the company announced that Xfinity was immediately rolling out multi-gigabit tiers to approximately three dozen cities and many more by 2025. Earlier this year, Comcast began deploying DOCSIS 4.0 technology across its network, which allows over 40 markets to experience faster, multi-gigabit internet speed options . This summer, Xfinity boosted the speeds of its fastest internet tier, Gigabit Pro , from 6 gigabits per second to 10Gbps. Finally, this fall, Comcast announced it would soon begin offering symmetrical speeds to Xfinity cable internet customers in Colorado Springs , Atlanta and Philadelphia .

What does all this mean for you? Xfinity is the nation's largest cable internet service provider , but does that automatically make it the best? It's easy to be impressed by the variety of internet speed plans, but my eyes glazed over a bit as I dug into the details. Is there such a thing as too many options?

With Xfinity, some plans require you to sign a one-year contract, others require a two-year commitment, and some require no contract at all. Beyond that, you'll need to contend with a data cap each month (again, not on all plans, but with some), and you can expect the price of your plan to increase over time, sometimes by more than 50% of the initial charge.

Locating local internet providers

 width=

Headaches like that are par for the course with ISPs, making it difficult to tell if you're getting a good deal on your home's internet connection. Still, Xfinity is available to more than one-third of the country, and it's the fastest option available for many in that footprint. It's worth understanding what you might get, especially if you feel the need for speed and fiber isn't an option for your area or address.

Plans and pricing for Xfinity Internet

Depending on where you live, Xfinity offers up to seven different internet plans, and if you want the best price, you'll likely have to shackle yourself to a contract. Also, all prices in the charts reflect the automatic payment option. Otherwise, you'll need to add $10 monthly if you choose to forgo the paperless billing discount. Here are the specifics.

Xfinity Internet plans (West division)

Source: CNET analysis of provider data.

Xfinity Internet plans (Central division)

Xfinity internet plans (northeast division), xfinity internet plans and pricing vary by region.

Yep, Comcast offers slightly different rates depending on your area. Some differences are negligible, but some stark variances can be found on the cheapest plans. In the West and Central regions, it's the Connect plan (75Mbps) for $20 per month, but in the Northeast, it's Connect More (200Mbps) for $25 monthly. Why so confusing? What gives?

"We're a regional provider and market and price our products based on individual local market dynamics," an Xfinity spokesperson told CNET. "That's why our costs can be different on a market-by-market basis."

These varying prices won't be of much concern or consequence to the average consumer. But considering Xfinity is available in 39 states, it may come into play for those moving from one part of the country to another and facing some significant sticker shock.

Breaking down Xfinity's pricing and value per Mbps

One big consideration with Xfinity plans is the sometimes stark contrast between your enticing promo price and a more costly regular rate. Most ISPs try to lure customers with competitive introductory prices that eventually balloon into a high monthly fee. That's not singular to Comcast Xfinity, but you might be surprised at how steep those price increases are sometimes.

For example, if your household wanted a higher-tiered selection like the gigabit plan, you would initially pay $67 monthly (the average between the three regions). That's a competitive rate. However, once your promo period passes, your monthly bill will jump between $90 to $99. Even more dramatic is the jump for customers trying to keep their costs down with the Connect More plan. It goes from a promo rate averaging $32 monthly to an average of $71 per month between the three regions. That's more than just a tiny blip: That's a hefty bounce of more than 120%!

Price jumps aside, Xfinity's regular rates -- the amount you'll pay each month after the cost goes up -- aren't all that unreasonable. For instance, the cost per Mbps of the regular rate across all plans is 39 cents, which is right about in the middle of what customers can expect to pay for cable internet service. It's not as low as Spectrum's 25 cents per Mbps standard cost but much more affordable than Cox's average 80 cents per Mbps for its regular rates.

Which Xfinity Internet plan is right for you?

 width=

Many ISPs offer three or four plan options, so you could get overwhelmed when looking at the seven across the Xfinity grid. But there's no need to panic. We've got a helpful primer on how much speed you really need . Give that a read, pick a plan that aligns with your average usage, and don't be afraid to be conservative. If your plan is insufficient for your needs, Xfinity will always be happy to bump you to a faster (and more expensive) plan.

What type of internet connection is Xfinity Internet?

One detail you may have noticed in the plan tables is the discrepancy between the download and upload  speeds. This is because Xfinity Internet relies almost solely on hybrid fiber-coaxial cable connections to service subscribers' homes. HFC offers speeds much faster than those typically offered by DSL , satellite and fixed wireless networks. Still, due to the asymmetrical nature of the connection, your download speeds will always be much higher than your upload speeds. That's the main reason cable falls short of the performance of fiber-to-the-home networks.

Most of us pay closer attention to download speeds because they affect our ability to watch movies, listen to new music or stream our favorite shows without that nagging buffering. That said, as more of us work from home, our ability to upload files is becoming more critical. For example,  Zoom recommends at least 2Mbps  for single-screen usage of its platform. If you have two people on separate Zoom calls simultaneously or on an important work call while the kids are gaming online, you could run into issues quickly on some of these plans.

While most of its footprint features HFC, Xfinity offers an FTTH option with its top-speed plan, Gigabit Pro. That plan is only available in select homes equipped for it, so you'll need to request a site survey to ensure that serviceability is possible. Our Comcast sources also tell us that Xfinity is focusing on utilizing existing cable connections to achieve the symmetrical speeds we commonly associate with fiber rather than chasing after additional fiber deployments. As we mentioned at the top of this article, that goal is becoming a reality for select Xfinity neighborhoods in Atlanta, Colorado Springs and Philadelphia.

Where can you get Xfinity Internet?

Xfinity home internet plans are available in 39 states and Washington, DC. Here's the full lineup:

 width=

Do you live in one of these states and are trying to determine whether you're eligible for Xfinity service? You can check your address using the internet serviceability tool at the bottom or top of this page.

It's always a good idea to take some time to read the fine print. If you're planning out your budget, you want to ensure you've allotted the proper amount for your internet service. After all, it's not just about the starting monthly fee.

Additional monthly fees

Regarding monthly fees, the promo rate assumes a $10-per-month discount for enrolling in automatic payments and paperless billing. If you choose not to go that route, you can expect an additional $10 monthly charge. Also, as mentioned above, your monthly rate will convert to a much higher regular rate after your promo rate ends.

You'll also be charged another $15 per month for the xFi Gateway, a sleek modem-router combo exclusive to Xfinity that features free security measures, parental controls over your home's Wi-Fi and full tech support.

Or, you could go with Comcast's xFi Complete, which includes unlimited data and a complimentary gateway upgrade after three years. That'll run you $25 per month, though Xfinity currently has a deal (on some plans) where your equipment is included for two years.

Finally, Xfinity allows you to use your own modem and router, but your equipment must be compatible with its service. Even if it is, you won't get the same technical support or device upgrades as the xFi. On the positive side, if you use your modem and router with the 400Mbps plan or above, you'll get a $10 monthly discount on your monthly bill in several of Comcast's regions. However , you'll be tethered to Xfinity's 1.2TB data cap -- unless you pay an additional $30 per month for unlimited data.

Xfinity's one-time installation fee

If you would like a technician to activate your service and verify all your home connections, then you'll incur a charge of $100. Xfinity does let you bypass this additional cost by selecting self-install, meaning it'll ship you a Getting Started kit, and you can activate the service on your own using the Xfinity app. That will cost you $15 in most markets, though some areas will see no charge.

Xfinity Internet data-usage plan

Sadly, Xfinity enforces a monthly data cap set at 1.2TB (1,200GB). That said, data limits do not apply to customers in the Northeast market and certain plans across all three regions. It should be noted that several other ISPs -- including Frontier , Verizon and cable competitor  Spectrum -- offer unlimited data with your monthly fee. So Xfinity falls behind some of its challengers regarding data caps.

That said, what does 1.2TB of data get you? If you want to binge all four seasons of Stranger Things in glorious 4K, you can expect to use up to 7GB per hour of viewing time. The  latest report from OpenVault notes that the average monthly household bandwidth usage is approximately 550GB, so most customers should be able to stay under Xfinity's monthly data limit.

 width=

You can stream content from apps like Hulu on Comcast's Xfinity Flex, which also comes with a free subscription to Peacock Premium.

If your household uses more than the given 1.2TB of data per month, you'll be charged an additional $10 for each increment of 50GB you exceed. The maximum monthly overage charge is $100. Xfinity does have an Unlimited Data Option , which will cost you an additional $30 a month, but it'll keep you well under that $100 monthly overage threshold. Still, it's only worth it on average if you incur at least three monthly overage charges.

Bundles, freebies and perks with Xfinity Internet

We've talked about the not-so-hidden additional fees you might expect to incur when signing up for internet service. You will also find freebies or enticing extras when you sign up for broadband with Xfinity.

First, since Comcast Xfinity offers multiple services, you can potentially get another $10-$30 a month off your internet bill for two years if you have an active, qualifying Xfinity Mobile line.

Next up, because Xfinity also offers TV, home security, voice and mobile services, several bundle deals can help you knock $10 or more a month off your regular bill. Like the tables above, the bundle deals vary by region. Still, all customers should have the option of nearly 10 types of bundles , ranging from Double Play options (internet plus another service) to premium bundle packages that include internet, TV and streaming, phone and home security.

Third, you'll have access to over 20 million Xfinity hotspots nationwide. That means you'll have free Wi-Fi connectivity on the go.

Fourth, Xfinity customers who sign up for the gigabit plan or higher will also receive a free Peacock Premium subscription.

Decent customer satisfaction scores for Xfinity Internet

Over the last few years, Comcast Xfinity has done relatively well in customer satisfaction metrics. When you look at the most recent American Customer Satisfaction Index numbers , Xfinity remains above the industry average. Its current score is 68 out of a possible 100 points. That puts it above the industry average of 66 for nonfiber ISPs, but not quite as high as T-Mobile Home Internet , AT&T , Sparklight and Kinetic by Windstream .

Hopping over to the J.D. Power 2023 US Residential Internet Service Provider Satisfaction Study , Xfinity consistently ranked in the top third for overall customer satisfaction. The study uses a 1,000-point scale and breaks the country into four geographic regions: West, South, North Central and East. Xfinity did well overall, with an average score of 713 points across all of them. That was good enough for third place in the East (behind Verizon and Cox), third in the North Central (behind AT&T and CenturyLink ), fourth in the South (behind Google Fiber, AT&T and Frontier) and third in the West (behind AT&T and Frontier).

What's the bottom line on Xfinity Internet?

Comcast Xfinity is the largest cable internet provider in the country, with relatively strong customer service scores and gigabit service available across the entire coverage map. Addresses equipped with a fiber-to-the-home connection might even be able to sign up for speeds of 10,000Mbps, one of the faster residential internet plans you'll find. Unless a dedicated fiber provider offers service in your area, the odds are good that Xfinity is your fastest option.

Just watch out for the company's price hikes after your promo period. Though most providers will raise your bill after the first year, Xfinity's increases can be particularly steep, especially in the Northeast and Central divisions. You'll also need to contend with Xfinity's data cap, though at 1.2TB, most households should be able to manage just fine without going over. If all of that sounds workable, then Xfinity is well worth consideration.

Does Xfinity offer the best internet plans?

Xfinity has a variety of plans and it can boast one of the fastest plans for residential homes with its Gigabit Pro offering. But whether it offers the best internet plan for your home depends on your address, and which other providers may be available to you.

What is the phone number for Xfinity?

The Xfinity customer service phone number is 800-934-6489. If you want to bypass the phones, you can contact Xfinity online at  Xfinity Support , where you can chat with a representative at all hours of the day, find an Xfinity location near you or visit a variety of help and support forums.

Where can I find info on Xfinity's privacy policy?

The  Xfinity Privacy Policy  is fairly easy to find on its site. Even better, it's surprisingly thorough and helpful for customers.

For example, there are easy-to-follow instructions on how customers can control what data Comcast/Xfinity collects. In fact, the company's  Manage opt-outs page  also includes guidance on how to opt out of data collection via Facebook, Twitter, Google Analytics and more.

"If we share your personal information with other companies for their own marketing and advertising activities, we will first get your consent," the policy reads, before noting those choices for opting in or out of data-driven marketing.

What Is Xfinity?

Xfinity internet review.

  • Plans and Prices

Xfinity is the brand name that Philadelphia-based Comcast introduced in 2010 for its internet, TV, and phone service.

Comcast’s Xfinity is both the biggest cable internet service in the U.S. and the most-used broadband provider in the country outright, serving more than 32 million residential customers by the end of 2022.

Xfinity Internet is available in parts of 39 states as well as Washington, D.C., and in many markets it represents the only high-speed service available at a given address.

In most of its service areas, Xfinity provides connectivity using the same type of coaxial cable it has long used for its TV service – a technology that allows for fast downloads but considerably slower uploads. A small number of Xfinity customers have fiber optic cable service with download speeds that are just as fast as uploads.

Comcast also offers TV and voice phone service under the Xfinity brand name, which can be bundled with internet service for discounts. In addition, it sells Xfinity Home Security service and Xfinity Mobile wireless service – the latter relying on the Verizon Wireless network – as add-on options.

  • #5 in  Fastest ISPs Plans

If you’re already a Comcast customer, choosing Xfinity Internet makes a lot of sense since you can save a considerable amount of money by bundling your services together. But even for those looking for broadband only, Xfinity Internet is a good deal.

The ISP offers many plans, with speeds ranging from up to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps).

Xfinity has some of the fastest plans . However, while its fiber internet is fast, it's also quite hard to come by. If you’re lucky enough to have the choice between a fiber optic internet provider and Xfinity cable internet, you’ll likely want to choose the fiber optic option. As with most other nonfiber providers, Xfinity’s upload speeds are much slower than its download speeds.

Xfinity's plans all come with no data cap, which is perfect for heavy streamers and gamers or those with many connected devices in the home.

Xfinity Internet Plans and Prices

Xfinity offers a wide variety of plans ranging in introductory price from as little as $19.99 per month to $120.00 per month, with speeds from up to 50 Mbps to 2 Gbps.

We’ve broken out the most commonly selected plans from the list to look at in more detail, including the plans commonly offered with promotional discounts and the Gigabit plan. Please note that plan offerings do vary by region, so be sure to check the Xfinity website for specifics for your area.

Plan 1: Connect More

Households that need dependable internet speed but aren’t heavy streamers

The Connect More plan offers up to 200 Mbps download speeds and 35 Mbps upload speeds. It's available starting at $25 per month. These speeds should be more than enough for most small households.

Plan 2: Fast

Individuals looking to benefit from slightly higher speeds

Opting to step up to Xfinity’s Fast plan bumps download speeds up to 400 Mbps while upload speeds stay at a max of 35 Mbps. This faster plan starts at $35 per month, and with the higher speeds you’ll be able to support a larger family with several connected devices.

Plan 3: Superfast

Families or individuals with streaming and gaming needs

Choosing the Superfast plan gives you download speeds up to 800 Mbps and upload speeds up to 35 Mbps. This plan starts at $60 per month and is what some families will need to allow them to stream and use other bandwidth-intensive applications (gaming, etc.) at the same time.

Xfinity Bundles and Extras

Xfinity offers bundles of internet, TV, and/or phone service, with prices based on the bundle you pick. These bundles don't necessarily include all internet plans.

This makes price comparisons more difficult for prospective customers. In addition, Comcast's advertised rates for TV service don't include unavoidable fees like surcharges for local stations and regional sports networks.

You can’t bundle Xfinity Mobile, which functions as a mobile virtual network operator using Verizon Wireless’ network, but signing up for that separately can knock off up to $30 from the price of some Xfinity internet bundles.

Xfinity Internet Coverage Map

Xfinity is available in much of the continental U.S., offering service in parts of 35 states as well as Washington, D.C. Xfinity is not available in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Major cities like Chicago , Philadelphia , San Francisco , Houston , Boston , Atlanta , Detroit , and Washington, D.C., have high concentrations of Xfinity customers. However, service in one part of a state doesn't ensure service everywhere in that state. Xfinity doesn't post coverage maps online either, so you'll need to check a given address on its site.

Xfinity Internet Speed

Fastest Xfinity Internet Plan: Gigabit X2

Xfinity’s fastest internet plan, Gigabit X2, offers a hybrid connection with download speeds up to 2 Gbps and upload speeds up to 35 Mbps. With these speeds, you’ll be able to support 4K streaming and high-quality gaming as well as support a household or office with many connected devices or internet-intensive programs.

While this top plan is fairly expensive, $120 per month, it comes with no data cap and connection for unlimited devices. Additionally, if you're an Xfinity mobile user (or want to switch), you can qualify for added savings. Plus, taking advantage of autopay and paperless billing discounts can lower the price further.

To find the right speed for you, read our What Is a Good Internet Speed? guide.

Xfinity vs. the Competition

Xfinity internet vs. verizon fios.

Whether Xfinity Internet or Verizon Fios is the best internet provider for your needs comes down to what’s available at your home. For many, Xfinity’s cable internet will be the only choice. However, in select areas of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S., especially near cities, you may have the choice of both.

Xfinity’s high-speed fiber offerings are few and far between, so if you’re specifically looking for a fiber connection, Verizon Fios may likely be your only option between the two.

However, if you’re primarily downloading and streaming, go for Xfinity’s 1.2 Gbps Gigabit Extra plan, as that should be more than sufficient. But if you’re doing a lot of uploading or file transfers, Fios’ faster upload speeds will make life easier. Both companies offer plans with unlimited high-speed data.

Xfinity Internet vs. AT&T Internet

AT&T Internet’s coverage area includes nearly 15 million customers in 100 cities across the U.S., so it’s much more likely you’ll have a choice between AT&T and Xfinity.

AT&T offers equal upload and download speeds with most of its internet plans, something Xfinity does not. However, Xfinity beats out AT&T's pricing with plans starting at $19.99 and topping out at $120.00 for its fastest plan, while AT&T's lower-speed plans start at $55.00 per month and increase up to $250.00 for speeds up to 5 Gbps.

Xfinity also wins out if you aren’t located near one of the urban areas served by AT&T’s fiber internet. As such, some suburban and rural areas might only have access to AT&T’s hybrid-fiber internet service, which offers speeds that aren't as fast as all fiber.

To connect to Xfinity Internet services, you'll need to rent an Xfinity Gateway or buy a third-party alternative. If you decide to buy, it will have to be approved by Xfinity. If you choose to rent, the Gateway’s Wi-Fi will work best if it’s close to the center of your residence.

Xfinity also suggests keeping the Gateway away from the following:

  • Exterior walls
  • Metal surfaces

The support page for Xfinity also recommends having a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or macOS 10.8 or higher.

Buying Equipment

May save money in the long run if you buy third-party equipment

Third-party equipment is allowed but not supported

There is no option to buy Xfinity equipment

Additional features when using Xfinity Gateway like the xFi app

$14 per month can become more costly over time than the one-time cost of purchasing equipment

Xfinity doesn’t sell its own Gateways and instead charges $14 per month to rent one. This rental price has increased substantially in recent years. It now includes security coverage and Wi-Fi-management software via the Xfinity xFi app (though most new routers offer comparable management tools in their own software) and may save you a little time on tech support calls. Xfinity offers four different models, some of which aren’t compatible with its faster service plans.

But $14 a month adds up, while buying a modem on Xfinity’s approved-devices list is a one-time expense. For example, if you buy one for $150, after 10 months you’ll start saving money every month. You’ll have a wider, cheaper selection of third-party modems if you don’t get voice phone service from Xfinity and don’t need Wi-Fi built into the modem.

There are a few ways to cancel your service remotely or in person:

  • Call customer service.  You can request an account cancellation by phone, but be prepared for the representative to try to change your mind and offer discounts. So, threatening to cancel can work to lower your bills.
  • Chat online.  You can initiate a cancellation request via chat.
  • Visit an Xfinity store.  If you have a store near you and prefer to speak to someone in person, you can go in to cancel your service.
  • Complete a cancellation form.  There is also a form that you can fill out and send in. You’ll have to log into your account to find and print it.

Xfinity charges early termination fees of $10 for every month remaining on your contract, so ask how much time is remaining when you cancel so you know the amount of the charge you’ll be facing. But if you cancel within the first 30 days, Xfinity’s money-back guarantee frees you of that problem.

Whatever route you take, you’ll want to check in or follow up to make sure your cancellation is properly processed. You’ll also need to find out which equipment (if any) you'll have to return. To return equipment, you can request a prepaid box to ship it or bring your items to a Comcast store. Cover your bases by taking photos of the equipment that show their serial numbers.

Your Xfinity Internet may be slow for different reasons, such as unusually large data usage, connecting to the wrong network, signal interference, your plan’s overall speed, and other technical issues. Here are some steps to speed up your connection:

  • Mind your data usage.  If one or more devices are downloading massive files or streaming ultra-high-definition videos, this could slow down your speed. This is also known as throttling.
  • Check your connection.  You could be accidentally connected to a public Wi-Fi spot, which may be slower than your home network. Xfinity offers so many public Wi-Fi hot spots, you may have connected to one you have used previously.
  • Move your Gateway/router.  Your signal may be obstructed by other electronic devices or thick walls near your Gateway/router. If your internet is slow mostly in the farthest area of your home, consider upgrading to a wireless router (if it’s separate from the modem) or the Gateway (if they’re combined).
  • Reboot your equipment.  Sometimes the solution is as simple as turning your equipment off and on.
  • Upgrade to a faster plan.  If none of the above steps have helped, your plan’s speed could be the issue. A faster plan could suit your needs better. Find a fast plan and learn how to pick the right speed in our guide on the  Fastest High-Speed Internet Service Providers .

Comcast Xfinity internet plans

Xfinity internet plans are organized by speed, ranging from 15 Mbps, ideal for one to two devices and light streaming, to 2,000 Mbps, which is good for whole-home connectivity and multiplayer gaming. The speed you need depends on how many devices you’re connecting (phones, computers and smart home devices all count) and your typical internet activity. For most individuals and small families, 100 to 200 Mbps is sufficient.

Xfinity availability

Xfinity provides services in select states. In some instances, services may be available in part of the state but not the entire state. Contact Xfinity to see if service is available in your area.

Xfinity is available in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Washington, D.C.

The price of Xfinity varies depending on the streaming speed you need. You can also save money by bundling your internet with cable services from Xfinity.

Xfinity contracts

Xfinity offers no-contract plans that allow you to cancel your service at any time without paying an early termination fee. Many of the company’s plans offer introductory rates or deals, which means the rate you’re quoted may only apply for the first 12 to 24 months of service. After this period, the fee may increase without warning.

You can rent or buy equipment from Xfinity, including routers and modems, to support your internet plans. Xfinity also offers smart home equipment, including security cameras. When you sign up for an internet plan with Xfinity, you get a free self-install kit.

Comcast Xfinity internet FAQ

Xfinity offers a range of speeds that start at 15 Mbps and go up to 2 Gbps. Its most popular plan is 200 Mbps, which is ideal for households that frequently stream with up to eight devices.

Yes. Comcast owns the Xfinity brand. You may see services referred to as Comcast Xfinity or simply Xfinity, but both names refer to the same service.

Xfinity offers the xFi Gateway, which is a router and modem in one. You can rent it from Xfinity as part of your internet service plan.

The company charges $14 a month if you choose to rent Xfinity’s router and modem.

Is Xfinity internet good?

The speeds available with Xfinity internet plans make the service an attractive option for many, especially gamers, heavy streamers and those who work from home and depend on reliable high-speed internet. Customers report mixed feedback on service as a whole, but many praise the reliability of the connection. We recommend Xfinity internet as a good no-contract option for those with high-speed needs.

Whatever you do, do not use Xfinity services. Their representatives will literally lie to you, and have zero accountability. The culture towards their customers is an “us against them” style and they are rude and completely unprofessional. Trust me and stay away.

Just when I thought Xfinity to be subpar and inadequate with service and product, they up their game putting me and my neighbors in danger. I called about their wire down blocking me in my driveway and blocking the road. I said we need an emergency crew to come and repair this ASAP. They gave me an "appointment" 2 days from now. I just saw several vehicles swerve to avoid it! I had to call the fire department in hopes they can do something. Did what I could as a good citizen.

I’ve had Xfinity for years and recently the service sucks. There are always outages. You can’t get through the customer service to speak to anyone, when I did figure out to call the technical support number, I was told the internet would be up in 24 hours and hung up on. I need my internet to work and Xfinity isn’t free. Horrible service and it sucks you can’t reach anyone directly. My internet has been out since 8 pm last night.

I have enroll the internet service for my new home and I have been trying to install for two weeks and it is not possible. I have called customer service and they have told me that if I want a technician I will have to pay for it, about $100 according to the company's policy. I have never used the service and they are already charging me extra. Don't use Xfinity

Here's my experience: Once my installation was complete, the autopay was attached to the person's bank account who lives next door. Xfinity made this mistake (there's no way I could have, since I do not know the person or their bank). Payments started being taken from this person incorrectly and so I called Xfinity to rectify the issue and provide my own bank info. Xfinity's phone automation would gather all my account info and then automatically tell me that I did "not owe any $, so goodbye" and disconnect my call. Once I finally pressed an option to move service I got through to a nice agent who could not easily help fix this problem. His best response was that the person paying erroneously would probably notice and complain to the bank. Which could, of course, disrupt and cut off my service.

This wasn't satisfactory to me. I believed Xfinity, now knowing what the mix-up is, should stop stealing money from the person next door to me and let me pay my own bill. Technically the agent was not able to change my payment methods. Interesting. But they told me to try and do that through the app. The App went through some steps and gave error messages but the Agent said I should try that again in a few days. So when I did, and the changes "took" I thought we'd solved the problem. But Xfinity also went ahead and charged me $25 for late fee (my calls and attempts were all timely!) and won't remove it. So they just do whatever they can to not be fair to their customers, they just want to exploit us for as much money and data as possible. Such a mess. We live in Chicago in multi-unit buildings, so that may make it easy for the internet signals to get crossed. Devious Xfinity does not care to keep things correct if they can benefit from the problem.

reviews of xfinity internet

Comcast/Xfinity has increased our prices despite not increasing the quality of service, benefits, or even providing new hardware for the service we already pay for. More $ for no increase in value. This is an increase that is supposed to happen across the board in CA, and according to them it is because of an increase in costs associated with their "entertainment partners". They state this after literally talking about record profits in their investor call for 2023, they are already raking in profits in the billions, while Americans are struggling to make ends meet, but have the audacity to increase prices while already milking us for everything we have.

It is no surprise why this company is routinely voted one of the worst companies to do business with when it comes to cable and internet. An increase in price would at least be justifiable if we had increased internet speeds, or if we were told we had to get rid of our old router in favor of a new one, but no, they increased the prices without ANY added benefit, literally taking more from us for nothing in return.

Their customer service is atrocious. It is fully automated now, where a few years back all it took was for me to demand to speak to an agent. Now they have this AI chat bot that offers no real solution. The worst part is that Comcast is basically a monopoly, being one of the only companies in the area that offers any sort of broadband service. Spectrum, and AT&T don't offer service in our area all we have access to is comcast so they can see fit to do this to its customers when ever it wants.

The worst part is that about 4 years ago they told me, GUARANTEED TO ME OVER THE PHONE that the price I was given was the price I was going to be paying permanently. This is after I had had enough of them constantly changing prices on me and saying that "it's because the last price was a promotional price". I threatened to cancel my service and go with AT&T (which had service in our previous city), and so they finally reduced my bill and said that would be our permanent price, yet here we go again. DO. NOT. DO. BUSINESS. WITH. COMCAST/XFINITY.

Reviewed Jan. 26, 2024

We have had Comcast for almost 5 years and has worked relatively well. Now need to do a little change and only people I get are people in the Philippines that know nothing and have no authority. Besides that, half the people cannot speak good English. Only thing they know is what is on their computer. You may as well be talking to a computer. I requested multiple times to speak to somebody stateside and all I got was somebody in the Philippines that speaks a little better English, but reading from the same paper or computer. Calling Xfinity/Comcast customer service is like talking to a person that cannot hear a word you say.

Ordered internet. The first tech said, “he couldn’t do it and that they would have to send someone to build a plant.” For 4 months we were told the same thing. No one came and they’re still billing us.

Reviewed Jan. 24, 2024

Fine when it works, but terrible customer service when anything goes wrong. Will try to have to repeatedly do the same troubleshooting that doesn't work while you tell them you can see the cable is disconnected behind your house.

Xfinity Internet review: One of the best ISPs

tyler-epps-2.jpg

Xfinity Internet

If  Comcast Xfinity  is the main — or only — cable internet option where you live, then we have good news for you: Xfinity is one of the best internet service providers (ISPs) in the U.S.

We spent over two weeks analyzing seven popular plans and comparing them across four top providers. We found a service that offers a variety of high-speed cable internet plans with several budget-friendly bundling options. To top it off, Xfinity ranks among the most reliable ISPs. Reliability means you are more likely to receive the internet speeds you pay for as advertised.

  • Reliable service
  •  Wide availability
  • Plenty of bundling options
  • Poor customer service
  • 1-year contract required for advertised prices

Xfinity Internet Plans and Prices

Wide range of cable internet speeds starting as low as $30.

Data effective January 17, 2021

* Package availability depends on location, prices may vary

Fiber Plans, Speed, and Data

Xfinity is currently rolling out its first and only fiber plan —  Gigabit Pro .  This fully unlimited ultra-fast fiber internet option can reach download speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps (2 Gbps), which is up to 40 times faster than traditional home connections.

The catch? Its Gig-speed connection is still in its early stages, and it's  only available in a handful of cities . It's also costly: Xfinity's only fiber option rings in at a stunning $300 per month, with $500 installation and $500 activation fees.

With steep upfront and monthly costs,  as well as countless system requirements , this already limited service is nearly unattainable for the average household. Until this connection becomes more readily available (and remotely affordable), you may want to look elsewhere for fiber.

Cable Internet Plans, Speed, and Data

Xfinity offers several  cable internet connections  ranging from 25 Mbps – 1,000 Mbps. Although performance varies by region, Xfinity delivers some of the most reliably fast speeds in the industry. This dependable performance history means you're more likely to actually experience the download speeds you pay for. Proven reliability is the reason Xfinity was rated the Fastest Internet Service Provider by  SpeedTest  in 2018.

Even though Xfinity technically has a data cap, most customers will never have to worry about maxing out their internet usage. Xfinity sets its limit at 1 TB per month  in most states ; for context, two people can play online games 24 hours per day for 30 days straight and still have enough data left over to watch all 629 episodes of "The Simpsons" in high-def. In other words, Xfinity will feel unlimited to most people.

If your household does use more than 1 TB of data per month, Xfinity offers an  Unlimited Data Option  for an extra $50 per month. However, we recommend signing into your account to  monitor your data usage  before making the upgrade. You may find 1 TB of data stretches further than you think.

Who is each Xfinity plan best for?

  • Performance Starter — Best for a single user with up to 5 devices
  • Performance Select — Best for two users with up to 8 devices
  • Performance Pro — Best for three users with up to 10 devices
  • Blast! Pro — Best for four users with up to 12 devices.
  • Extreme Pro — Best for five users with up to 15 devices
  • Gigabit — Best for 5+ users with up to 20 devices
  • Gigabit Pro — Best for 10+ users with up to 30 devices

How Fast is Xfinity Internet?

Based on the  Federal Communication Commission's (FCC's) latest report , Xfinity passes the 80/90 benchmark, meaning at least 80% of customers receive advertised speeds 90% of the time. In terms of reliability, Xfinity beats most cable internet providers — and it far surpasses DSL and satellite options.

It's also worth mentioning, while Optimum took home the gold for reliability, it only serves  6.26% of the country  in  11 states . Xfinity Internet is available in 40. In every state Xfinity serves — besides Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania — it is the most reliable option. It's also likely to be one of the fastest. In 2018, the internet performance rating site  SpeedTest.net ranked Xfinity  as the fastest internet provider nationwide.

Internet Availability

Widely available cable internet plans, with one fiber service in select cities.

Rather than focusing on a specific region, Xfinity provides coverage across the country. Xfinity is  the most widely available cable provider , with coverage close to 36% of the nation beating out Spectrum and Cox.

Use our  zip tool  to check if your address is serviceable.

Other Factors to Consider

Impressive equipment.

Industry-leading gateway with advanced security features.

Not many providers can match the level of equipment Xfinity offers. The  xFi Gateway  is one of the most intelligent and secure gateways in the industry, combining the traditional modem and router, while also boasts major security features.

Now included in the $14/month equipment rental fee is the xFi Advanced Security add-on. With this feature, you can protect all your smart home devices from malware, phishing threats, and hackers. All you have to do is download the xFi app, and you'll receive real-time notifications giving you the ability to report and block any suspicious activity.

Xfinity does give you the option to opt-out of its gateway as long as your equipment is compatible. Depending on the plan and connection type, you may need a high-end modem to support your speeds. If you're unsure, Xfinity  provides a tool  using your location and download speed to determine if your device is compatible with your plan.

When it comes to installing the equipment, Xfinity offers both professional installation as well as self-installation for those looking to save a little extra money. For users who aren't as tech-savvy and would rather have a professional come out, spend some time looking through  all the deals  as Xfinity often offers free professional installation (normally $60) for higher speed packages.

Contracts and fees

Xfinity shines when it comes to contract flexibility, though the amount of available packages can be a bit overwhelming. With seven packages to pick from, it's easy to get lost in all the deals and bundling options. We recommend looking at the higher speed packages first, as it provides the most value.

For those looking to stay put for a few years, packages with 24-month locked-in prices can save you hundreds of dollars compared to plans that increase in price the second year. Xfinity also offers month-to-month plans. They're often more expensive than contract plans, we appreciate Xfinity's willingness to accommodate various living situations.

As for early termination fees, Xfinity is alarmingly vague. If this lack of transparency is a concern for you, we recommend reaching out to an Xfinity representative prior to signing up.

Notable fees

  • Early termination fees: Undisclosed
  • Equipment lease fee: Up to $14/month
  • Self-installation (shipping costs): $15
  • Professional installation: Up to $60

*Sometimes waived for online orders

TV bundles: Xfinity TV

If you're an Xfinity customer looking to bundle TV, then we have good news for you. Xfinity is now offering bundles with its revamped  TV streaming service – X1.  With several extensive packages to pick from, ranging from 140+ to 260+ channels, Xfinity's TV streaming service offers plenty of value at a highly competitive price.

Unlike AT&T TV, which you can buy as a stand-alone service, the X1 TV service requires an Xfinity internet connection. The base package, which includes 140+ channels, starts at $80 and includes an X1 Voice remote. In comparison, AT&T TV's bundle package also  starts at $80,  but only includes 65+ channels — less than half of Xfinity's X1.

And while other TV streaming services — like  YoutubeTV  — may be cheaper, it doesn't offer nearly as many channels in its base package. If you're considering a TV service, and have Xfinity internet available, look no further than the X1 bundle. It's worth noting there is a $20 price increase in the second year, but this is fairly common in the industry.

Customer service

ISPs don't rate highly for customer service, and Xfinity is no exception. It has a reputation for long wait times to reach a representative and difficulty disconnecting services.

The  American Customer Satisfaction Index , which conducts thousands of customer surveys annually, ranks Xfinity as fifth best out of 12 providers, but with a score below the national average, according to Xfinity reviews. It's not all bad news.

For the first time in many years, the company saw a boost in Xfinity Internet reviews rankings from J.D. Power, another independent third party. Xfinity received an average rating of 3.5/5 in Customer Service across the four major market segments:  North Central, South, East, and West .

That said, Xfinity is striving to make improvements by hiring more representatives and creating appointment slots to reduce hold times, so customers should see improvements in the future.

How much does Xfinity Internet cost?

The price of Xfinity Internet packages depend entirely on what kind of packages are available in your area, the number of devices you wish to connect, and the upload and download speeds. Browse Xfinity's  Internet service page  to navigate what types of deals they are offering and which one is the best fit for you. Also, be sure to check Xfinity Internet customer reviews as well.

Is Xfinity available in my area?

Xfinity services are available in 39 out of 50 states. Visit the Xfinity website and enter your ZIP code to find out if they are available in your areas and, if so, which services they offer. Be sure to check Xfinity's download and upload speeds in your area before signing up for a plan.

Can you set Parental Controls for Xfinity Internet?

Yes. Xfinity offers Parental Control features to help shield your children from inappropriate content. On their FAQ page, Xfinity offers a  step-by-step guide  on how to set up Parental Control. If there is an attempt to view an inappropriate website, the user will be directed to a blocked page instead.

Remove Autopay before Cancelling

Jacob Tomas on January 16, 2024

Tip to Xfinity customers: If you decide to leave Xfinity, remove your credit card and cancel Autopay from your profile well before you leave. Otherwise, Xfinity will continue to automatically bill you monthly after you've canceled. And they make it very VERY difficult to contact anyone to stop the automatic payments, much less get refunds for improper post-cancellation payments, by phone, email, or chat. VERY difficult.

I had a really pleasant experience while sorting through my account troubles, thanks to the tech who was very polite even through my haste and irritation and I wanted to make sure that he gets his credit. Wasn’t able to personally give him a review as I couldn’t find out how to do it so this is the next best thing.

Pleasant, helpful employees

We want to give a shout-out to the Xfinity Hendersonville, TN in-store employees who worked with us on 2 different issues we were having with 1 of our cable boxes and TVs. They were all professional, courteous, and open to questions we had.

Awesome service!!

Maria on November 20, 2023

After going to the Olympia on-site office for help, I waited for about 40 minutes, however, from the time they called me until the moment tech walked me out, the service he extended, was nothing short of outstanding! He was thorough and clear in his instructions and he walked me through every step of the procedures he went through to get my internet working and my accounts consolidated. He was kind, thoughtful, and professional. Thank you for your amazing service!

Wish I could write something positive

Pam Meyers on November 09, 2023

We have been with Xfinity, and Comcast, for many, many years, back when it was called Adelphia. Overall we were ok with the price for the service but now it is too expensive. The last couple of years we don't feel it has been worth it. Their website changed a few months back and since then I can no longer bring up my email account through Chrome. Nor can I copy and paste it into my email. When I try to log into my account through my mobile device it sends a code to my phone over and over and over even after I check the box that says " Don't Ask Again in this Browser". Customer Service acts like they have never heard of these issues before but if anyone there bothered to look up troubleshooting they would find more than just me has these issues. Our contract with Xfinity is over in mid-January of next year and we have decided we will cut ties with Xfinity and stream like everyone else does.

In today's Customer care atmosphere, when everything is done in a hurry and sometimes the task at hand is overlooked… But today I had the sheer pleasure of meeting a tech who was polite, and knowledgeable and went above and beyond when he spoke with my Son on the phone to assure me I had a modem moving forward. He did his work in a timely fashion and cleaned up every last detail. To the Supervisor And Xfinity, you got it right when you hired this Gentleman. Thank You for a job well done.

Poor service

Jacob Belenky on October 23, 2023

Service is very poor, nobody is available to talk. At the Xfinity store in Lafayette, nobody pays attention to you or cares about you, you don’t exist to them as a customer. What to cancel, fine, we can’t help you. After so many years of being a customer, we got 20% rise, not a discount. So, I’m sure you can find a better provider, that is what we are doing. Never been so ignored!

Unreliable Service

Holly Hickam on August 19, 2023

Since June, my service has been cutting in and out. I have Internet, cable, and phone services. The most important thing to me is the landline because my son comes home after school and needs to call me at work to check in and I need to be able to call him. With my services constantly cutting in and out, I have no way of getting in touch with him. Plus, being over $230 a month, I don't feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for. I've had Xfinity for over 10 years, but since this has been happening for 3 months, I will have to change services. I cannot keep paying for something that doesn't work.

Brian James Stewart on June 21, 2023

Xfinity used to be the best, lately their service and reliability are more on par with their competitor. That's a huge fall in quality. I've been a customer for 7 years, I'm about to switch to a different brand as a result of poor service.

Ok customer service

Aaron on January 28, 2023

Signed up for Xfinity service about three weeks ago. Was then told the internet was ready to go. I just needed to install the gateway they provided me at the Xfinity retail store. Fast forward after proper installation via instructions, the internet does not work. It then takes me a ton of calls to eventually get an agent on the phone from another country. Books me for tech the following day. He shows up and says it's a faulty line but I now have some service. He put in a request to change the line. Another tech shows up a couple of days later says the gateway was faulty and replaced it. Tech informs me that the salesperson added an unwanted phone line without my knowledge. Fast forward after tech is done, the internet is averaging around 2-3 Mbps download and around 15 Mbps upload. I get in touch with Xfinity yet again and they pretty much said it's $100 to get a tech out here. Maybe your experience will be different than mine? I am currently in the process of cutting my service with Xfinity.

Horrible customer service response

Matthew Cardon on January 23, 2023

Xfinity’s commercials should stay Xfinity Internet, where we send you in circles and you’ll never get a live rep. It is nearly impossible to get someone on the phone. They divert you to text messages or chat. If you ask for the operator, it tells you to choose or hang up and when you do choose it sends you a text message and then gives you the option to go back to the main menu. This is horrible on Xfinity's part, you overpriced With no customer interaction. Everything has to be done automatically.

Fantastic service

Joyce Wynkoop on January 21, 2023

I was frustrated with the automated system but then I finally got through to an agent, she was very patient with me, and she resolved my problem very professionally. Xfinity should be proud to have her work for them, I was very impressed by her. The call was made Saturday night 1/21/2023 call was at 7.05 I wish I could remember her name again I forgot to ask before we hung up. Very efficient looking at my case. Thank you for the great customer service.

Lack of Customer Focus

Joe Gardenhour on December 14, 2022

On 14 Dec 2022 at approximately 11 am MST, XFinity took the internet down in Utah just when hundreds of people were working from home and using their service to perform work at home for their jobs. I personally never received any information that they were doing this (that’s one issue) but my neighbor said he got an email 11 minutes prior to the outage saying they will be doing work for 2 hours and therefore the service would be interrupted. It is 2:10 MST and there is still no service. I called Xfinity and went through their cumbersome network of endless robotic messages to get to a message that says service will be back up online at 1:45 MST then it said 2 pm to ultimately come back online 3 plus hours later. Why they think it's acceptable to give an 11-minute notification of a significant self-initiated outage to hundreds of people working in the middle of the work day is beyond me. If this is how they plan out their scheduled work then I am going to look elsewhere for another internet provider that actually takes into account the customers' needs.

Currently, percent of our Xfinity customer reviews are positive. Xfinity and its parent company, Comcast, have improved their reputation for customer service, though some reviewers are still critical. Xfinity internet plans offer impressive high speeds (check out our Xfinity speed test data to see how those advertised speeds translate into real-world performance), and the company’s introductory pricing and deals make it an appealing option to consumers on a budget.

How We Reviewed Xfinity

2 weeks of research

7 plans evaluated

4 providers compared

If Comcast Xfinity is the main — or only — cable internet option where you live, then we have good news for you: Xfinity is one of the best internet service providers (ISPs) in the U.S.

We spent over two weeks analyzing seven popular plans and comparing them across four top providers. We found a service that offers a variety of high-speed cable internet plans with several budget-friendly bundling options. To top it off, Xfinity ranks among the most reliable ISPs. Reliability means you are more likely to receive the internet speeds you pay for as advertised.

Xfinity Internet Plans and Prices

Wide range of cable internet speeds starting as low as $30.

The catch? Its Gig-speed connection is still in its early stages, and it’s only available in a handful of cities . It’s also costly: Xfinity’s only fiber option rings in at a stunning $300 per month, with $500 installation and $500 activation fees.

This dependable performance history means you’re more likely to actually experience the download speeds you pay for. Proven reliability is the reason Xfinity was rated the Fastest Internet Service Provider by SpeedTest in 2018.

Even though Xfinity technically has a data cap, most customers will never have to worry about maxing out their internet usage. Xfinity sets its limit at 1 TB per month in most states ; for context, two people can play online games 24 hours per day for 30 days straight and still have enough data left over to watch all 629 episodes of “The Simpsons” in high-def.

Based on the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC’s) latest report , Xfinity passes the 80/90 benchmark, meaning at least 80% of customers receive advertised speeds 90% of the time. In terms of reliability, Xfinity beats most cable internet providers — and it far surpasses DSL and satellite options.

It’s also worth mentioning, while Optimum took home the gold for reliability, it only serves 6.26% of the country in 11 states . Xfinity Internet is available in 40. In every state Xfinity serves — besides Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania — it is the most reliable option. It’s also likely to be one of the fastest.

All you have to do is download the xFi app, and you’ll receive real-time notifications giving you the ability to report and block any suspicious activity.

Xfinity does give you the option to opt-out of its gateway as long as your equipment is compatible. Depending on the plan and connection type, you may need a high-end modem to support your speeds. If you’re unsure, Xfinity provides a tool using your location and download speed to determine if your device is compatible with your plan.

When it comes to installing the equipment, Xfinity offers both professional installation as well as self-installation for those looking to save a little extra money. For users who aren’t as tech-savvy and would rather have a professional come out, spend some time looking through all the deals as Xfinity often offers free professional installation (normally $60) for higher speed packages.

Contracts and fees

Xfinity shines when it comes to contract flexibility, though the amount of available packages can be a bit overwhelming. With seven packages to pick from, it’s easy to get lost in all the deals and bundling options. We recommend looking at the higher speed packages first, as it provides the most value.

For those looking to stay put for a few years, packages with 24-month locked-in prices can save you hundreds of dollars compared to plans that increase in price the second year. Xfinity also offers month-to-month plans. They’re often more expensive than contract plans, we appreciate Xfinity’s willingness to accommodate various living situations.

As for early termination fees, Xfinity is alarmingly vague. If this lack of transparency is a concern for you, we recommend reaching out to an Xfinity representative prior to signing up.

Notable fees

  • Early termination fees: Undisclosed
  • Equipment lease fee: Up to $14/month
  • Self-installation (shipping costs): $15
  • Professional installation: Up to $60

*Sometimes waived for online orders

TV bundles: Xfinity TV

If you’re an Xfinity customer looking to bundle TV, then we have good news for you. Xfinity is now offering bundles with its revamped TV streaming service – X1. With several extensive packages to pick from, ranging from 140+ to 260+ channels, Xfinity’s TV streaming service offers plenty of value at a highly competitive price.

Unlike AT&T TV, which you can buy as a stand-alone service, the X1 TV service requires an Xfinity internet connection. The base package, which includes 140+ channels, starts at $80 and includes an X1 Voice remote. In comparison, AT&T TV’s bundle package also starts at $80, but only includes 65+ channels — less than half of Xfinity’s X1.

And while other TV streaming services — like YoutubeTV — may be cheaper, it doesn’t offer nearly as many channels in its base package. If you’re considering a TV service, and have Xfinity internet available, look no further than the X1 bundle. It’s worth noting there is a $20 price increase in the second year, but this is fairly common in the industry.

Customer service

ISPs don’t rate highly for customer service, and Xfinity is no exception.

It’s not all bad news.

Get high-speed internet and Peacock Premium for only $30 per month when you add Xfinity Mobile to your plan.

The combined powers of the Xfinity xFi Gateway and the Xfinity app allow you to customize your home Wi-Fi network easily. And Xfinity internet customers get real peace of mind from the parental controls.

But if the $14-per-month cost rubs you the wrong way, we recommend buying a third-party modem instead.

Xfinity xFi deals and promotions

Xfinity doesn’t currently offer any straight-up deals on xFi. But in the past, we’ve seen the Xfinity xFi included for free with specific top-tier plans, so be sure to check out our Xfinity Deals page just in case.

What is Xfinity xFi?

The Xfinity xFi Gateway is a cable modem/router with telephone ports. This do-it-all device helps translate the Xfinity Internet network wired to your home into a wired internet connection or Wi-Fi, plus it connects your home phone line.

The Xfinity xFi also comes with two Xfinity hotspots to help your guests get online without affecting your internet speed.

You don’t have to get the xFi gateway with your Xfinity Internet plan. But if you do, you can use the Xfinity app to customize your Wi-Fi connection, including kicking devices off your Wi-Fi and setting parental controls.

Xfinity xFi price and features

  • Price: $14/mo.
  • Installation kit: $15
  • Modem: DOCSIS 3.0 (Gateway) or 3.1 (Advanced Gateway)
  • Router: Dual-band Wi-Fi
  • Maximum recommended speed: 275–2,500 Mbps (varies by model)
  • Ethernet ports: 2–4 (varies by model)
  • Telephone ports: 2

Not all xFi Gateways are on the same level, but don’t sweat the differences too much.

We’ll talk more about the various models below, but Xfinity promises to match you up with one that lets your internet plan run as smoothly as it can.

However, the price for every xFi rental is a steep $14 per month.

Most providers charge about $10 per month for internet equipment—although they don’t usually have an app as fancy as Xfinity’s.

But if you don’t want to fuss around with your Wi-Fi’s advanced options, you probably won’t use the Xfinity app much, and a simpler third-party device will suit you just fine.

Choosing the xFi Gateway for your internet equipment certainly simplifies things—you’ll always get the right equipment for your internet speed, and Xfinity will take care of you if the device breaks down.

But the price of renting an xFi adds up. Each year, you’ll pay a total of $168 to rent the xFi Gateway.

If you’re willing to do a little homework, you can find a suitable device (or devices) to meet your internet and phone needs at a lower price long-term.

For a wired internet connection, you’ll need only a modem. But most people want Wi-Fi coverage, so you should also get a router (or just go for a modem/router combo). And if you have an Xfinity home phone plan, you’ll need a device with telephone ports too.

Our recommendations in the chart above are great alternatives to the xFi Gateway. To see more options, you can check “ Best Xfinity-Compatible Modems ” and “ Best Cable Modem/Router Combos .” And be sure to get devices that match your internet plan’s speeds!

“I experienced an immediate boost in speeds when I switched from my Netgear C3700 to an Xfinity xFi Gateway.

The Netgear C3700 says it can handle download speeds up to 340 Mbps or higher, but I rarely clocked above 100 Mbps when I tested my Wi-Fi speeds.

(The bottom two tests are with the Netgear 3700 . . . 3 Mbps, woof!)

My Xfinity internet plan offers download speeds of 300 Mbps, and I’ve constantly hit near, or even over, that speed when I’ve tested my Xfinity xFi Gateway.” — Mike Strayer, Managing Editor

Xfinity xFi setup

Installing Xfinity Internet is so simple you can do it on your own. For help installing your Xfinity Internet, check out our Xfinity self-installation guide .

Your Xfinity xFi equipment might look different than the goodies pictured here, but you’ll still get the same kinds of cords and cables complete with instructions for how to connect using your Xfinity app.

Personal xFi setup experience

An Xfinity xFi modem/router on a desk with a plant.

Blocking your xFi Gateway with plants interferes with the Wi-Fi signal, but also, it’s cute. Image credit: CableTV.com

Guess what—it’s your favorite writer, Rachel Oaks. I gave my Netgear CM400 and Netgear R6220 a break to test the xFi Gateway just for you. Here’s how the setup went down:

When you’re a new Xfinity customer, Xfinity will ship your xFi Gateway and everything you need to install it for free. But since I’m a veteran Xfinity customer, Xfinity would charge me about $50 for shipping (a rough estimate from my Xfinity agent).

To save time and cash, I went to my local store to pick it up instead. There was a bit of a wait, but the store had good social-distancing practices, and I was there for less than 10 minutes total.

Back at home, I started the setup using the Xfinity app. When the app worked, setup was a breeze—but then the app went on the fritz.

I got kicked out, and I had to dig through all the menus (the Xfinity app has so many menus , y’all) to pick up where I left off. Thank goodness I’m comfortable poking around in apps. Otherwise, the situation would have called for a long conversation with an Xfinity agent.

After all the troubleshooting and the more run-of-the-mill wait times for the xFi Gateway to activate, setup took me about 50 minutes in total. Connecting my seven smart home devices to my new Wi-Fi network took another 30 minutes.

That’s almost an hour and a half total—switching routers is no joke, y’all. I do this because I love you.

Xfinity app

Xfinity App Screenshot

The Connect menu is your Wi-Fi network page. Use People to build profiles for your family. Image credit: CableTV.com.

You can control your xFi Gateway through the Xfinity app. That’s right, it’s the same app you use to view your Xfinity plan, bills, and data usage—no separate xFi app needed. That’s some convenient simplicity, Xfinity. Good job.

You can download the Xfinity app on the Apple App Store or Google Play .

Besides being a big help for your xFi setup, the Xfinity app has impressive features in the Connect menu and the People menu.

Under Connect, you can see all the devices on your Wi-Fi network and pause them if needed. You can check security risks, troubleshoot your devices, and perform other advanced Wi-Fi tasks.

Under People, you can build unique profiles for your family members, set parental controls, and schedule internet-free time for each person. And you can assign multiple devices to each profile, so you can keep track of how much time each person spends online.

The Xfinity app is excellent if you want to help your family build healthy internet habits. But if you’re more hands-off when it comes to Wi-Fi, you probably won’t end up using this app.

If that’s the case, you might consider buying a third-party modem/router instead since the app offerings are the big draw of the xFi Gateway. A third-party modem/router can help you save cash in the long run as well.

Xfinity xFi devices

Xfinity has four xFi models, including the new xFi Gateway 3rd generation, which utilizes Wi-Fi 6 technology . However, you don’t get to choose which xFi device you take home—Xfinity decides based on where you live and which internet plan you selected.

We tested the xFi Wireless Gateway (the first device in the table) at home. It did a great job getting the signal throughout the 900-square-foot townhouse, although we had to restart it once in two months. More advanced models might give you even better results.

Xfinity xFi Pods

If your home is large, has multiple stories, or includes thick inner walls, you may need a mesh Wi-Fi system to get Wi-Fi in every room of your home.

Lucky for you, Xfinity offers the Xfinity xFi Pod to expand your Wi-Fi coverage with a mesh network.

You get a deal when you buy more than one xFi Pod—it’s $119 for one and $199 for two. Just like the xFi Gateway, these devices are easy to install with the Xfinity app. Put them throughout your home and say “so long” to dead spots.

You can pick up xFi Pods on Xfinity’s website or by talking to your Xfinity agent. Or if you want more information, check out our comprehensive review of xFi Pods .

Final take: Is xFi worth it?

If you love to customize things, want parental internet controls, or just want to have a couple of Xfinity hotspots near you, the Xfinity xFi Gateway is a top-notch modem/router that offers everything you crave.

But the xFi Gateway isn’t the only modem/router out there, and there are plenty of simpler modems you can get for less cash money.

Methodology

We tested the Xfinity xFi Gateway for thousands of hours over the course of a year, monitoring for connection problems, Wi-Fi coverage, internet speeds, and more.

You can see how we scored the modem/router according to value, reliability, features, and customer satisfaction in the adjacent table.

Xfinity xFi FAQ

How much does xfinity xfi cost.

The xFi Gateway costs $14 per month to rent. Unfortunately, Xfinity doesn’t sell xFi Gateways for one-time costs or let you choose which xFi model you get. Instead, Xfinity assigns an xFi device based on your plan.

How do I download Xfinity xFi app?

Your Xfinity xFi controls are part of the Xfinity app—download it on the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Can Xfinity xFi see history?

Your Xfinity xFi doesn’t keep track of your browsing history. But if you’re still concerned about your internet privacy, consider getting a VPN service .

Is xFi better than Wi-Fi?

The xFi isn’t the same thing as Wi-Fi. The Xfinity xFi Gateway is the name of Xfinity’s modem/router device, whereas Wi-Fi is the wireless internet connection broadcast by routers.

Since your xFi device includes a router, it will help you get home Wi-Fi, but it doesn’t necessarily have better Wi-Fi than any other router.

Xfinity Internet Review | 2021

Comcast’s Xfinity is the largest cable internet service provider (ISP) in the United States, and it is the most-used ISP with more than 31.5 million customers. The company introduced Xfinity in 2010 as a crossroads for its internet, phone and TV services. Does this mean that Xfinity provides reputable customer service and high speed internet connections, though?

We have conducted in-depth research of the best internet providers in the United States to help you decide. We named Xfinity the “Best Overall ISP” because of its wide availability, low starting price and good customer service. This review will closely examine Xfinity’s offerings in terms of connection types, speeds, bundles, products, services and more.

Xfinity Pros & Cons

Xfinity background & availability.

Xfinity is the largest internet service provider in the United States, and it is backed by Comcast Communications which has more than 55 years of experience in telecommunications technology. Xfinity offers its services in 40 states. It does not offer services in Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Wyoming. Additionally, Xfinity’s available services will vary from ZIP code to ZIP code.

Xfinity Connection Types

Xfinity offers two main connection types. A majority of its plans use a hybrid fiber-coaxial cable to provide internet services. This connection tends to resemble that of traditional cable plans. This means that speeds may drop during busy hours depending on your plan and where you live.

Xfinity also offers two fiber-optic plans: its 1,200 Mbps plan and 2,000 Mbps plan. The company may still be able to supply a DSL connection depending on your location.

Read over Xfinity’s plans and their connection types below:

  • 50 Mbps : Hybrid fiber-coaxial cable
  • 100 Mbps : Hybrid fiber-coaxial cable
  • 200 Mbps : Hybrid fiber-coaxial cable
  • 400 Mbps : Hybrid fiber-coaxial cable
  • 800 Mbps : Hybrid fiber-coaxial cable
  • 1,200 Mbps : Fiber-optic
  • 2,000 Mbps : Fiber-optic

Xfinity Starting Cost

Xfinity’s starting costs tend to fluctuate based on availability at your address and the speed you choose for your plan. Another important factor to keep in mind is that the prices listed are Xfinity’s starting prices for the first 12 months that you have one of its plans. After 12 months, Xfinity will charge you its standard rate on your internet bill, which can be significantly higher than the starting price.

Some plans with Xfinity require a contract and others do not. Its 400 Mbps and 800 Mbps plans require a one-year contract and its fiber internet plans stipulate two-year term agreements. If you have to cancel your contract early, Xfinity charges $10 per remaining month in early termination fees.

Learn about each Xfinity internet plan’s starting cost per month below:

Other additional costs to watch out for with Xfinity include equipment rental fees for its modem and router, the xFi Gateway, which are an extra $14 per month combined. If you require wiring or desire professional installation of your Xfinity system, it costs an additional $90. If you exceed Xfinity’s 1.2 TB data cap , the company charges you an extra $10 for every 50 GB in additional data usage.

Xfinity Internet Speeds

Xfinity offers a wide range of speeds, so customers are able to receive internet speeds that work for how they use the internet. The company’s 50 Mbps plan is twice the industry minimum of 25 Mbps and supports browsing social media and checking email. Its 400 Mbps plan supports video conferencing, online gaming and streaming HD videos on multiple devices.

For those with larger households or who require incredibly strong internet, both of Xfinity’s fiber-optic plans provide fast speeds at 1,200 Mbps and 2,000 Mbps. Its 1,200 Mbps plan will work for any family that uses the internet to work from home, play multiplayer games online and stream on platforms like Netflix and HBO Max. YouTube content creators may appreciate the upload speeds of its 2,000 Mbps plan.

Xfinity Reviews & Customer Service

Xfinity provides a variety of customer service tools to make it easier for customers to get in touch with either technical support and customer service representatives. Tools include an online customer portal, an online chat, a smartphone app, a tech support line and a 24/7 customer service line.

The company has an A- rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).* Comcast, Xfinity’s parent company, is currently involved in a government action lawsuit for allegedly overcharging consumers, charging consumers for unordered products and failing to deliver promotional Visa gift cards promised in exchange for signing up in the state of Minnesota.

That said, and considering how poorly ISPs often fare in customer reviews, Xfinity has rather good customer review scores across popular sites like the BBB and Yelp. Check out what Xfinity customers said they loved and what they didn’t care for about their experiences below:

Comcast has been our chosen provider for exceptional TV and internet at our home. We recently had them install underground services to our wedding venue, The Homeplace on Johnston Farm. Incredible service, from the corporate rep on the phone, Jessica, the installers of the line to our barn, and Rick, the installer who did [the] interior. Can’t say enough, very pleased and the cost was good, too. I can rely on great programming for my guests, no matter the weather! Thank you, Comcast! — Ginia J. via BBB

Be warned, they charge you $100 whenever they come [to] visit. They told us they needed to return to bury a cable…but it would be at no charge as they just didn’t have time to get to it. They then billed us $100 for the return visit. We called and explained, but they changed the story and said that there are two visits associated with these things, one is complimentary the second is chargeable…we paid the $100 but asked them to tell customers of that. If I had the choice, I’d have left the few feet of exposed line in the yard rather than pay $100. — Michael E. via BBB

I have the 800mbps [plan]. I have the newest router. I get literally [50mbps on a good day]. 50! Usually less. I have taken four days off of work so this company can come and fix the issue . — Tim Provo via Trustpilot

Xfinity has provided excellent service. Their technical options are great, the router worked well for me, I had to restore it once which took about eight minutes….The connection is extremely dependable, the bandwidth was above what I had booked, [and the] price is great. Also, when I wanted to get their service, I wasn’t able to get AT&T and they provided me with a connection the same day I called. When I had to cancel because of moving to an area outside their coverage, this was no issue either. — Alex via Trustpilot

Xfinity vs. Frontier Internet Review

4.3 out of 5 stars

We may earn money when you click our links.

Comparing Xfinity and Frontier Fiber Internet is tricky: you really can’t go wrong with either option. But Frontier Fiber internet is a slightly better choice.

But if you’re stuck with Xfinity versus Frontier DSL internet, Xfinity is the better internet service provider (ISP).

Read on to learn more about how these two internet providers differ on prices, internet speeds, data caps, and customer service. Let’s dig in and find out which one is the best choice for you.

Guide to this review:

  • Prices and plans comparison
  • Internet speed and data caps comparison
  • Customer service comparison
  • Final thoughts recap

Methodology

Xfinity vs. frontier: prices.

Xfinity and Frontier internet prices seem to play leapfrog. Depending on what speed you’re looking at, one or the other might offer a better promotional price.

That said, we think Frontier’s Fiber internet service is the best deal thanks to its low cost, fast speeds, and unlimited data options—not to mention its newer and generally more reliable fiber technology .

But not everyone can get Frontier’s fiber internet service. And if you’re stuck with its DSL service, Xfinity Internet is the clear winner. Here’s what Xfinity’s promotional prices look like for the Central part of the US:

In today’s world, DSL internet doesn’t quite cut it. Frontier’s lowest speed of 6 Mbps is barely enough to surf the web and send a few emails. We imagine you’ll hear dial-up noises in your head while trying to load Gmail or other sites.

And the 25 Mbps and 45 Mbps speeds aren’t much better—but they’ll at least connect you to a Zoom call if you’re the only person online in your home.

So, if it’s a toss-up between Xfinity and Frontier DSL internet, go with Xfinity.

But, like we said, if you can grab Frontier’s Fiber internet, go for it. It comes with a 1-year commitment and unlimited data (Xfinity caps data at 1.2 TB), plus the prices are pretty low for the speeds you get.

Xfinity vs. Frontier: Internet speed and data caps

Xfinity and Frontier’s fiber internet service are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to promised download speeds.

We recommend at least 50 Mbps for one person to stream , game , and take Zoom calls, and both ISPs offer these speeds plus faster download speeds for larger families.

But, as we said previously, Frontier’s DSL internet speeds leave a lot to be desired. We don’t recommend these speeds for anyone—unless you absolutely have no other choice. (Frontier’s DSL prices and unlimited data are still a better deal than satellite internet .)

(Not sure what download speed is right for you? We feel you. That’s why we created our internet speed guide to help you make choosing an internet plan a little bit easier.)

Looking at our latest report on internet speeds , Xfinity gives you the most bang for your buck when it comes to the actual download speeds you’ll get.

Our spidey sense tells us that Frontier’s fiber internet speeds probably match Xfinity’s speeds.

Xfinity vs. Frontier: Data caps

There’s no hemming and hawing here: Frontier takes the win with unlimited data on all of its internet plans. Even its DSL internet.

Xfinity, on the other hand, caps your data at 1.2 TB (unless you qualify for Xfinity's Gigabit X2 plan exclusive to Seattle). While most of us probably won’t go near that data cap, it definitely starts to loom large by the end of the month if you’re working from home or need to download a boatload of video games.

  • Xfinity data cap: 1.2 TB
  • Frontier Fiber data cap: Unlimited
  • Frontier DSL internet data cap: Unlimited

Xfinity vs. Frontier: Customer service

Okay, let’s start this chat by saying that no internet provider offers amazing customer service. It’s the sad truth, and we wish it would change.

That said, Frontier’s customer service is on the lower end. It scored 61 out of 100 points in the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) report for the second year in a row. Still, yuck.

On the other hand, Xfinity scored 68 out of 100, putting it right in the middle of the pack. That's better than the 66 out of 100 score the previous year. Sure, we’ve all heard the horror stories about Xfinity customer service, but we’d rather deal with Xfinity than Frontier.

If you do need to call your ISP’s customer service center, be not afraid. You can take these steps before you call to make your life easier.

  • Xfinity customer service: 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489)
  • Frontier customer service: 1-800-921-8101

Xfinity vs. Frontier: Which is better?

Xfinity and Frontier are pretty evenly matched. But if you can get Frontier’s Fiber internet plans where you live, the prices are lower and you’ll get unlimited data.

But if you’re comparing Frontier DSL service with Xfinity, go with Xfinity.

  • Price: Frontier Fiber . Both Xfinity and Frontier Fiber internet offer great promo prices. But Frontier’s unlimited data pushes it into the lead. That said, Frontier’s DSL internet prices aren’t good for the speeds you get.
  • Internet speed: Xfinity . Xfinity scored well in our fastest ISPs report, but it’s hard to say how Frontier performs. We think its Fiber internet matches Xfinity, but its DSL service isn’t worth writing home about.
  • Data caps: Frontier . You get unlimited data on every Frontier internet plan —including its DSL service. But Xfinity puts a 1.2 TB limit on your data.
  • Customer service: Xfinity . Internet customer service isn’t great, but at least Xfinity improved. That said, Frontier’s rock-bottom score is scarier than a Stephen King novel.

Best speeds and promo prices: Comcast Xfinity

Best for unlimited data: frontier.

Some services are hard to gather data about, but there are objective ways to measure internet service! We look at speed tests and the ACSI scores of every ISP we review, and when possible, we run our own internet tests on various internet plans.

We have 8+ years of experience in testing, researching, and writing honest reviews to give you the best information on whether a service is right for you or not.

When we review internet service providers, we look at the following factors to help choose our star ratings and overall rankings:

  • Price for download speeds offered
  • Variety of download speeds
  • Availability
  • Connection type

XFINITY CAN BURN IN THAT PLACE WE KNOW IT BELONGS

Told after chatting with live agent that someone would call within 60 minutes. Lied to. Never happened. XFINITY IS THE WORST COMPANY WITH ITS STUPID AUTOMATED BS SYSTEM, NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING FOREIGN DIATRIBE, AND DISHONEST AGENTS NEED SERVICE FOR 2.5 MORE MONTHS. THEN SWITCHING TO TEAM MOBILE--COULDN'T BE WORSE THAN XFINITY GARBAGE!

After over 20 years of Xfinity - Yuk!!!

After over 20 years of Xfinity, we're sick and tired of them. Currently we have never ending email problems. Xfinity email was hacked in October 2023. They eventually lowered themselves to tell their customers about this in January 2024, along with the orders to change all email passwords. I've now changed all the passwords, some of them more than twice, but frequently can't can't get email because the account has been "temporarily blacklisted"... this "temporarily" can continue for a day or more. We have a contract with Xfinity for steaming (like most other customers) but Xfinity increased the monthly charge without ever giving notice or explanation. It's only a few dollars of increase, but we don't have the energy or mental fortitude to spend several hours on the phone with them only to discover that quietly raising the monthly charge is in the fine print.

Terrible telephone support

Terrible telephone support! Takes forever to talk to an actual human. Hung up on four times in two hours as they fumble call transfers...or perhaps it's just on purpose? I'm looking for an alternative internet provider!

Date of experience : February 16, 2024

Avoid if you can

This has to be one of the most incompetent companies in the US. Our cable modem keeps losing the connection. The telephone customer support goes through a checklist that consists of rebooting the modem and then telling the customer they need a new modem. We are on our third modem and the problem is clearly on their side, yet they don’t fix it.

Awful just awful my bill went from $36 and change for 2 years to $118 and change a month and I think that's highway robbery for no more than what I have and what I use I'm very seldom home anyway I work all the time

1 year - no fix

1 year, over 1yr I've had a problem with my internet not working on some web sites. No fix! 2 service calls, new box (there's and mine), changed cables, 4 different computers, 6 web browsers, antivirus on/off, reset cookies... nothing... but that bill is right on time every month. Last January 2023 started, 2024 no fix. I'm soooo done.

2024, year of the THROTTLING

Have had internet services through them for almost 4 years. The first three, ive had no issues with the speed i pay for. The start of 2024, they are consistently throttling my internet speeds. ANY video i try to watch, 3 seconds of view time, and loading for at least 2 minutes...... I thought i was going crazy... UNTIL i downloaded Proton VPN, and behold!!!!!! Fast internet again. Videos play just fine at max resolution.. Eat my FREE VPN jerks

Extremely Poor Customer Service!

I have an issue that I've been trying to get resolved since December of '23. After a minimum of 4 phone calls and a bunch of promises, with no action or results! Each time I've called the representative has assured me that a supervisor would return my call. This company places a very low priority on customer care, and it is painfully evident in my experience.

Date of experience : February 09, 2024

This has to be the worst company in…

This has to be the worst company in America, as not one of their customer service reps can speak English and or understand English. This entire business model hopefully is out of business in Florida. The customer service reps are useless and the upper management is a joke. We have also fired them from our HOA, and got rid of the bulk account, along with 3 other HOA complexes in Panama City, Fl., amazing they are still in business.

Xfinity should be ashamed.

Date is: all of 2022, 2023, and now 2024. I have had my bill go from $65 dollars (received for three months of the two years that was promised) to $80.82 (even with the senior discount of $30 per month), one billing it was $102.80. When I call the customer service center, they state that it was a one-month item, it will go down next month, never does.

Date of experience : January 18, 2024

Worst customer service

I cancelled Xfinity internet only service in Dec 2023, but they keep taking money out of my account for both Jan and Feb 2024. I waited almost an hour in their customer (lack of) service phone hell and when finally speaking finally to a real person, they did not reverse the charges. Like many other reviews, Xfinity raises prices on existing customers while offering better to new customers. Actual internet speed are way below promised speeds (you get maybe 50 mbs with a 200 mbs plan) Never got above 60 mbs I would never choose Xfinity again

Biggest issue is their obnoxious bot…

Biggest issue is their obnoxious bot that says ask me anything and understands nothing but very basic issues! We were moving out of state and needed to return equipment... no UPS store (handles returns) or xfinity store with 2 hours of our home. Called to ask for a label. Link didn't work, called again asked for an address to ship to at our expense...nope! Every time spending time fighting to speak to a human which by the way isn't from this country. My husband with hearing issues can't understand one word. So glad to be done with this company and CA. Both use to be great. Not any more!!!

Date of experience : February 13, 2024

Has been a customer for more than 6 years. Reliable service and good coverage. Don't like that they increase the price every year.

Don't use Xfinity Voice service

I purchased a phone from Xfinity Voice in 2022, the service was okay until i dropped my phone in water. i called the company for a new phone and was told by the representative that I could not purchase a phone for my existing number and would have to purchase a new free phone with an additional google phone number. I purchased the phone, only to realize they ported in another number that they couldn't remove from my phone. The new phone I purchased in August 2023 which worked for approximately 5 and a half months and started malfunctioning and stating my phone was not connected to a network, which caused me to have to restart the phone periodically to receive phone calls and text messages. I called the company to complain, and they sent me out a new phone with a new phone number causing me to have 3 phones on my line. i called the company to complain stating that I would not be paying for 3 numbers and that I only needed one phone. He told me I could keep my original number. After speaking with the representative, I received another new phone in the mail. I didn't open the phone and added the new phone number to my line, causing me to have 4 lines on my phone. I called customer service because they were supposed to call me back to resolve this issue. I never received a callback but noticed I had a package enroute from the company. I waited to contact Xfinity Voice because I wanted to see what was sent from them. It was another phone! I was irate! I called the company and asked why did you send another phone? I already received two phones that I was going to return, making this my third phone. This left me with a broke phone that I would be paying for monthly if I stayed with this company. I paid off the broke phone so I could port out my original phone number and leave this company. Not to mention they charged my account 3 times for these products. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any phone company. I have internet with Xfinity and I am considering finding a new provider after this experience.

Xfinity Needs Live Telephone Customer Service

They need a customer service telephone number that enables you to speak with a live person. Xfinity customer service is over-reliant on "Xfinity assistant" which starts as a bot chat. Eventually you get a "live agent" with whom I get mixed results on resolving actual issues. I hate that xfinity does not have a simple telephone number to call where you can speak to a live person.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. My bill goes up every single month and they treat the new customers better than the ones that have stuck with them. Service is down a lot also. Go elsewhere.

Blind customer

Blind customer, modem/router stopped working, technician came and replaced. Told customer TV was working but rushed out of house when asked to check customer’s phone connection to wifi saying only, it shows as available on your phone - BUT NEVER GAVE BLIND CUSTOMER THE PASSWORD to the new modem. Two weeks now with no access to internet gor a blind person.

The worst broadband provider in the US

The worst, of the worst, OF THE WORST! Worst app, wordt customer service, worst WiFi hotspot as a broadband provider. I have filed multiple complaints with the FCC, how I hope my area gets Sonic or other fiber gigabit internet service

Date of experience : February 02, 2024

I was transiting from previous contract…

I was transiting from previous contract into a new one. Called multiple times and found it very hard to reach a live agent. They only allowed live chat via a phone link, very very hard to do that for anything beyond one line on the phone. In addition, the xfinity web portal is hard to access as often times I was blocked when trying to log in. The issue resolved when I tried again some days later so it is with them, not my local network. Very bad experience overall. Terrible customer service.

Seattle internet provider comparison

High-speed internet in Seattle, WA, ranges from around 70 Mbps to 3 GB, meaning you will have a range of choices depending on your budget and won’t have to settle for slow Wi-Fi . If you are moving to Seattle or having trouble with your current Wi-Fi service in your Seattle home, consider these internet providers.

Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

How to choose an internet provider in Seattle

Find home Wi-Fi in Seattle by determining what is most important to you. Are you searching for faster speeds, cheap plans, unlimited data or the fewest fees? Other options that can influence your decision include whether you want to bundle an internet and TV package or choose a plan with additional perks for new customers.

Keep these tips in mind when shopping for a Seattle internet plan:

  • The internet speed you need should be based on what you use the internet for and how many connected devices you have in your home.
  • Seattle has many providers that offer speeds of 1 GB or more, which is great for streaming on simultaneous devices within your home.
  • Because social media apps like Snapchat, Tik Tok and Instagram include streaming aspects, you will likely need fast speeds if you regularly create and upload content.
  • Gaming consoles like Xbox and Playstation need reliable internet connections for updates or multiplayer games.
  • Internet provider coverage depends on location — sometimes your first choice for internet service might not be available at your home.
  • Rural internet options usually include satellite, fixed wireless or DSL internet . These connection types can typically still support gaming and streaming but may have data or speed limitations.

Compare Xfinity and T-mobile head to head

Xfinity and T-Mobile are both excellent internet service providers (ISPs), but they couldn’t be more different. Xfinity brings blazing-fast speeds and a laundry list of internet products and features via its constantly improving cable internet network. T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet is the opposite, offering only one internet plan—but that internet plan is incredibly convenient, straightforward, and one of the best deals we’ve seen in a long time.

If you have average internet needs, it’s hard to beat T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet. On the other hand, if you know you need a lot of bandwidth or want to bundle services, it’s worth taking a closer look at Xfinity. Let’s dig into the details to find out which service better suits your needs.

Pros and cons: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

  • Faster speeds
  • More plan variety
  • Term contracts
  • Low pricing
  • No data caps
  • No contracts
  • Excellent customer ratings
  • Only one plan
  • Not as fast as cable or fiber internet
  • Some issues with live TV streaming

Plans and pricing: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile

Xfinity has faster internet plans and more variety. It offers speeds anywhere from 75Mbps all the way up to multigigabit speeds. T-Mobile has just one internet plan that packs a perfectly respectable speed with additional perks like unlimited data, no term contracts, or any extra fees.

Both of these ISPs have decent pricing, each offering a lot for your money, but T-Mobile brings more value because everything is included in the $50 monthly price tag.

Xfinity plans and pricing

* For 12 months. No term contract. Taxes and equipment not included. Includes $10/mo automatic payments and paperless billing discount.

#No term contract. Taxes not included. Includes $10/mo automatic payments and paperless billing discount.

† For 24 months. No term contract. Taxes not included. Includes $10/mo automatic payments and paperless billing discount.

** No term contract. Taxes and equipment not included. Incl. up to $10/mo. auto-pay and paperless bill discount.

Xfinity has seven plans for customers to choose from, and the prices aren’t bad considering the speeds offered. But keep in mind that there may be extra fees that could inflate your monthly cost, depending on the features you want (modem rental, unlimited data, month-to-month contract, etc.). Also, some Xfinity plans may not be available in your area; the 2,000 Mbps Gigabit X2 plan, for example, has very limited availability.

Also, Xfinity’s prices vary depending on where you live, so use our zip code search tool to verify Xfinity’s pricing in your area.

T-Mobile plans and pricing

†$60.00/mo. for internet only

T-Mobile has only one internet plan with advertised speeds up to 245Mbps. On the surface, that offer may seem so-so, but the value with T-Mobile is in the details. That $60 price tag includes absolutely everything: unlimited data, self-installation, and a rental gateway. T-Mobile’s pricing and included features are a total steal. The only question is whether speeds around 250Mbps are adequate for your internet needs.

NOTE: T-Mobile’s internet plan advertises a speed range rather than a simple max speed. That’s because the 5G reception in each area is a little different, which impacts the speeds available from a fixed wireless service like T-Mobile’s. But if you live in an area with decent 5G reception, you should expect your speeds near the top of that 72–245Mbps advertised range.

Extra fees: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile wins here, hands down. We love its free rental equipment, very easy (and very free) self-installation process, and no term contracts or subsequent early termination fees. On the contrary, Xfinity’s service gets weighed down by all the common culprits of inflated internet bills.

Customer ratings: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile was the highest-rated provider in our annual customer satisfaction survey . T-Mobile customers were especially happy with their pricing, giving T-Mobile the highest price satisfaction score in the history of our survey. No doubt, T-Mobile also owes some of its success to its convenient fixed-wireless foundation. Fixed-wireless customers in general were the most satisfied in our survey, suggesting the extra convenience of no cables goes a long way.

Xfinity received the best customer ratings for speed for the second year in a row. This wasn’t too surprising as Xfinity plans tend to offer a lot of speed for the money.

Best TV and internet bundles

* Internet: For 12 months. No term contract. Taxes and equipment not included. Includes $10/mo automatic payments and paperless billing discount. TV: No term contract. Broadcast TV fee extra; price subj to change. Taxes and equipment not included.

Xfinity is the clear winner when it comes to bundling services, offering TV and phone bundles, and even discounts for Xfinity’s mobile phone service. That being said, the discount you get for bundling internet and TV isn’t anything to write home about—it’s usually just $5 or so of monthly savings.

T-Mobile doesn’t have any TV and internet bundles.

Internet types: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Xfinity’s cable internet is a tried-and-true, robust connection type that’s up to the task of even the most demanding internet activities. It uses the same lines used for cable TV, so its availability is excellent. Cable internet is faster, more reliable, and more stable than fixed wireless internet, but it’s also a lot less convenient as it requires cabling.

T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet sits in the relatively new category of fixed wireless internet service. Fixed wireless uses the signal from cell towers to carry internet data to customer homes, kind of like a mobile hotspot on steroids … that isn’t mobile. It doesn’t require any cables, making it really easy to set up.

Data caps: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile has no data cap, so there’s no worrying about overage fees or any need to track your usage.

Xfinity takes a more traditional approach with a 1.2TB data cap. That’s nearly double the data an average household uses in a month, so it shouldn’t be an issue for most customers. But those who download a lot of large files (looking at you gamers) may find 1.2TB a bit limiting. Xfinity offers the option to go unlimited, but it costs you an extra $30 per month.

Contracts: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile has no term contracts; services are month-to-month, and you’re free to cancel anytime.

Xfinity plans lock you in for 1–2 years. If you cancel early, you have to pay early termination fees; these are usually $10 for every month remaining on your contract. Similar to Xfinity’s other policies, you can get around this if you pay more.

Installation: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Not only is T-Mobile’s installation free, it’s much easier than Xfinity’s (and every other ISP for that matter). Set up is very plug and play—the app takes over the tough bits. But the big draw is no need for networking cables, and you don’t need a technician or an appointment.

Xfinity’s cable internet requires more money and effort—and maybe even a broadband technician. You may be able to get away with a free self-install, but that depends on your home’s existing networking setup.

Availability: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Both of these internet giants have excellent availability. T-Mobile’s wireless reach extends to anywhere with decent reception of its 5G cell towers, and Xfinity is the nation’s largest internet provider. The odds are very good that you have access to at least one of these ISPs.

To see if Xfinity or T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is in your area, enter your zip code below:

Final call: Xfinity vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

If you can get by with internet speeds around 150Mbps, we recommend going with T-Mobile: The price vs. what you get is just too compelling to ignore. But there’s no ignoring that Xfinity’s service can take you further with speeds, making it the better choice for those with more demanding bandwidth needs.

Former Fox News star Tucker Carlson flew to Moscow to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin, becoming the first American to do so since Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago.

The right-wing television provocateur Tucker Carlson interviewed Vladimir Putin in Moscow in an exchange fueling both the Russian president's anti-Ukrainian rhetoric and Carlson's drive for renewed relevance in his post-Fox career .

In a video taped after the interview, Carlson told viewers that he found Putin to be sincere, if not adept at making his case to an American audience. "He denied it, but it's obvious he's very wounded by the rejection of the West," Carlson said. "Like a lot of Russians he expected the end of the Cold War would be Russia's invitation into Europe."

It is the first interview Putin has granted to an American since the Russian invasion two years ago.

The pairing should not come as a surprise. Carlson has routinely been lionized by Kremlin propaganda outlets; his clips attacking the Biden administration's support for Ukraine have been routinely rebroadcast, for example. Russian media has fawned over Carlson this week, giving his comings and goings in Moscow a treatment akin to U.S. media's coverage of Taylor Swift.

Carlson filmed a video to promote the interview on the rooftop of the Ritz Carlton Hotel near the Red Square, a location that, according to Russian journalist Yevgenia Albats, spoke volumes of the regard the Kremlin held for Carlson.

"Its roof is controlled by one of the KGB's successors, the Federal Security Service," she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "No one of us, and no one other foreign journalist, except for Oliver Stone, had that luxury of reporting from the roof top."

Few have done more than Carlson to lift up the Russian leader as a figure of admiration in Republican circles, just as he has propelled the otherwise relatively obscure Viktor Orban, Hungary's autocratic leader, to star status .

In that promotional video, Carlson had said he wanted to interview Putin about the war in Ukraine to learn the truth – and because other American journalists were too biased against Russia to want to do so.

This was clearly false; Reporters at CNN and the BBC and executives at NPR and Fox were among those who said their networks would be eager to interview Putin without conditions. Even the Kremlin contradicted Carlson's claims, saying it had received and rejected requests from "exceptionally one-sided" U.S. outlets.

So was it a hard-hitting interview holding a wartime leader to account?

A retelling of history

Putin dominated the conversation – which exceeded two hours – with long, discursive asides relying on propagandistic talking points to argue that Russia's right to eastern Ukraine spans centuries. (Ukrainian leaders and many historians dispute his rendering of the history of the region.)

The Russian leader blamed the Ukrainians for the 2022 invasion. Carlson did not question Putin's framing. Nor did he use the word "invasion" to describe the deployment of Russian troops and missiles into Ukraine that kicked off the war.

"We were protecting our people, ourselves, our homeland and our future," Putin told Carlson, according to the interpreter of the exchange.

Putin appeared to have done opposition research worthy of the KGB agent he once was. He needled Carlson at separate moments about having been a history major and having applied (unsuccessfully) for a position at the Central Intelligence Agency.

At the tail end of the interview, Carlson pressed Putin to release Evan Gershkovich , a Wall Street Journal reporter imprisoned by Russian authorities nearly a year ago on charges of espionage - charges the newspaper stoutly rejects. He suggested Putin should not hold Gershkovich as a pawn to trade for, say, the release of a Russian spy.

"The guy's obviously not a spy, he's a kid," Carlson said of Gershkovich. "And maybe he was breaking your law in some way, but he's not a super spy and everybody knows that. And he's being held hostage in exchange, which is true. With respect, it's true. And everyone knows it's true."

Carlson did not raise the fate of Alsu Kurmasheva , a dual U.S.-Russian citizen who is a reporter for the U.S.-funded network Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. She was detained and charged last year with failing to register as a foreign agent.

And Carlson notably did not press Putin on the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court for him and his child welfare commissioner on accusations of war crimes.

"I'm from La Jolla, California. I'm not flacking for Putin. Please," Carlson said in the post-interview video. He then said "professional liars in Washington" want to convince the public that Putin is a modern-day Adolf Hitler, and called State Department officials idiots for thinking Russia has expansionist ambitions into Poland or other countries.

"We are run by nutcases – the president and that poisonous moron, [Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria] Nuland," Carlson said.

Carlson has spent years attacking those who made the case that the Russian regime sought to sow discord in the 2016 elections through online disinformation, that former President Donald Trump's campaign took advantage in the chaos, and that some of Trump's key allies had links to the Russians. Trump's national security advisor, Michael Flynn, resigned after it was revealed he had lied about specific policy discussions with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. ahead of taking office.

How tucker carlson took fringe conspiracy theories to a mass audience.

Carlson also has spent much of his time trolling both his former network and Trump critics, while leaping to defend those who laid siege to the U.S. Capitol in January 2021 in an effort to prevent the certification of President Biden's 2020 win, despite the protests of some of his colleagues at Fox.

A new start on X after Fox News

Fox News fired Carlson – then the network's biggest star – last spring. His key role in amplifying baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 elections had been revealed in a defamation lawsuit against the network that led to a $787 million settlement ; Fox paid another $12 million to settle claims by a former producer that Carlson had created a sexist and bigoted workplace. Evidence that became public demonstrated Carlson's wide-ranging contempt — for his viewers, Trump, his reporting colleagues and, particularly, the executives who ran his network.

After being kicked off Fox, Carlson moved his operation to Twitter, saying it was the last major bastion of free speech. He then launched the digital Tucker Carlson Network.

Carlson has used that platform to interview subjects including the extremist conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who filed for bankruptcy after families of schoolchildren murdered in a Connecticut massacre won a $1 billion settlement against him; Martin Shkreli, a former pharmaceutical executive convicted of securities fraud; U.S. Rep. Majorie Taylor-Greene, who is known for embracing conspiracy theories ; and the right-wing social media troll who goes by the nom-de-Tweet Catturd.

For a former cable television star seeking to insinuate himself once more into the national conversation, Carlson was thwarted on Thursday by two current presidents and one former. News of President Biden, accused of memory lapses by a special prosecutor, overshadowed Carlson's video drop. The Russian president's tendentious historical claims overtook the interview. And, of course, there was Trump, whose ability to appear on Colorado's ballot dominated a historic Supreme Court argument earlier in the day.

It is hard to gauge how wide an audience Carlson now has. (Statistics on views on X are unreliable.) But it is a far cry from the broad stage he had at Fox News, where he was seen by upwards of three million people on many nights.

The 10 Best Super Bowl 2024 Commercials and Ads

From the star-studded Uber Eats ad to Beyoncé's viral Verizon spot, watch the best Super Bowl 2024 commercials

reviews of xfinity internet

Popeyes/Youtube; Verizon/Youtube

The 2024 Super Bowl was certainly a star-studded event — and we're not just talking about the game.

While the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers game brought out some big celebrities (including halftime show performer Usher and No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs fan Taylor Swift) the ads during commercial breaks were just as starry.

Last year’s game brought us hilarious and heartwarming TV spots from businesses such as Budweiser and Doritos, and this year’s commercial breaks were just as engaging.

David and Victoria Beckham teamed up with Uber Eats for a memorable commercial about forgetting big moments , while Ben Affleck put his love for Dunkin’ on full display with a celebrity cameo-filled commercial featuring his closest friends (and wife Jennifer Lopez ).

Read ahead as we recap the best commercials from the 2024 Super Bowl.

State Farm’s Super Bowl ad featured Arnold Schwarzenegger, who's been cast to play Agent State Farm in a movie. However, when he has a hard time pronouncing “neighbor,” he gets a little help from his former Twins costar Danny DeVito.

Uber Eats created a memorable commercial about forgetting, which included A-listers such as Friends costars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer and all-star couple David and Victoria Beckham, who poke fun at their viral "be honest" moment from Netflix's Beckham documentary.

Ben Affleck put his love for Dunkin’ to music in the coffee brand's Super Bowl commercial . Featuring several celebrity cameos , including his wife Jennifer Lopez, the ad sees Affleck put together the ultimate boy band, the DunKings.

Zach Braff and Donald Faison welcome Jason Momoa to the neighborhood with a song and dance about T-Mobile Home Internet in this Super Bowl ad.

Google Pixel

Google Pixel moved many viewers to tears with their heartwarming commercial about how the phone uses special technology to make it easier for people with vision impairment to capture photos of big life moments.

e.l.f. Cosmetics

Judge Judy serves up justice and beauty looks in this e.l.f. Cosmetics ad that features everyone from former Suits costars to Meghan Trainor (to even a PEOPLE staffer !).

The one and only Beyoncé tries (and fails) to break Verizon’s network in this commercial for the brand. (Funnily enough, she did end up breaking the internet when she teased new music at the end of the commercial.)

In this witty Hellman’s ad, Kate McKinnon plays a cat owner whose animal goes viral for saying the word “mayo,” leading to a wild turn of events for the superstar pet, including a spoof cover story for PEOPLE that details the cat’s relationship with Pete Davidson.

After defrosting from the year 1972, Ken Jeong plays a man who discovers all the new things life has to offer, including Popeye’s chicken wings, in this funny Super Bowl ad.

Ice Spice, who attended the big game alongside Taylor Swift , says goodbye to her ex (ex-lemon-lime soda that is) in this fizzy commercial for Starry.
