Most recommended points

In the App Store you will be able to find many applications whose mission is to show you the solution to a specific equation. Although, you have to know how to choose the most recommended option in order to have the most satisfactory experience, especially considering that we are dealing with a service that you are going to use daily in your own classes. That is why we recommend you follow the following points:

  • Input methods: on many occasions it can be uncomfortable to input long equations in the application. In this way, priority must be given to those apps that have a method of introducing equations through artificial intelligence with the device’s camera. Likewise, manual input through a keyboard that is adapted is also of interest.
  • Available operations: there are many operations that can be found available in applications, not limited only to equations. In this sense, priority should be given to those that are really complete, such as functions or trigonometric operations.
  • Ability to view graphs: in operations that are more technical, it is often recommended to have a graphic display of everything that is happening with the equation in order to get the best possible results.

In this case, this application allows any user to solve the unknown by having access to all the steps to reach the final solution. Keep in mind that there are different levels of difficulty, the first three being the easiest.

In the event that you want to go a step further, you can opt for the difficult level and the expert where equations are proposed that require a high level of learning to be solved. It can be really useful, especially for teachers who need access to a solver to be able to prepare the most suitable equations for their students.

our favorites

There are many options that can be found in the App Store aimed at solving mathematical problems. But we are left with two of them. The first is Microsoft’s Maths Solver , which has a more than interesting interface that will solve any foreground or background equation for you, with the possibility of having a graph aimed at the most technical subjects.

Secondly, we must also recommend Mathway . It has great versatility, since it allows problems to be entered manually, but also through the camera itself. Likewise, you will have all the detailed steps so that you can know how to solve them, so that you can pass the corresponding exam of this subject.

7 Best Math Solver Apps and Websites

best math solver apps

We have already talked about math learning apps for Android and iOS before. These apps allow you to study and brush up on mathematical concepts regardless of where you are. But what do you do when you get stuck on a problem and there is no one to help you out? The answer is easy. There are tons of apps and websites that you can use to solve math problems in no time. So if you don’t want to depend on anybody, here are some of the best math solver apps and websites you can try. Let’s begin.

How to Tackle Homework with Math Solver Apps

1. mathway: scan photos, solve problems.

Mathway is the most recommended app when it comes to math problem-solving apps. It covers a large area of mathematics such as basic math, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc. So whether you want to solve basic square roots or word out complicated limits and derivatives, this one is the only tool you may need.

Mathway also allows you to connect with experts. You can submit your question for a fee of $5/month (one pending question at a time) or $30/month (1st plan + 20 sessions live with experts).

Mathway app for solving math problems

To start solving problems, all you have to do is select a subject area and take a photo of the question. Moreover, if you want to type in the question, you can do that with the keyboard as well. The numbers on the keyboard keep changing according to the subject of your choice. The best part is that it shows you steps to solve each problem. However, it is behind the paywall and would cost you $9.99/month. This also removes ads.

  • Cover multiple areas (algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc.)
  • Supports three types of input (keyboard, camera, voice)
  • Stp by step problem solving
  • No sign-in required
  • Ask an expert might be costly for many

2. Slader Homework Answer‪s

If you have a lot of math questions, taking a picture or typing each problem can be a big hassle. Since most math problems are extracted out of textbooks, why not simply scroll through the questions/answers from the book itself? This app does exactly that. You can scan the barcode of a book or browse from the category of the books already solved.

App solve math textbooks

In addition to high school math (pre-algebra, geometry, trigonometry) and upper-level math (differential equations, statistics, etc.), it also covers other subjects such as English, management, accounting, etc. Although the app has a large database of books, there are chances that you won’t find the book you’re looking for. Moreover, most of the advanced math books are locked. So you can only view them by upgrading to a premium plan that comes at $3.99/monthly.

  • Find math solutions book-wise
  • Clearly shows chapter number, page, and exercise number
  • Users can rate and comment on solutions
  • Very slow to load
  • Tons of banner ads
  • Limited database of books
  • No option to scan questions

3. Cymath – Math Problem Solver

Cymath is similar to Mathway, however, I like it more because of a few additional features. But before that, let’s first talk about the common features. Both math solver apps allow you to capture math problems and have keyboard input as well. However, Mathway has far more sub-fields of math when compared to Cymath. I tried a few algebra questions where both performed well. However, Cymath often showed errors when I ran trigonometry questions.

In conclusion, if you want to cover a large area of subjects and want extreme accuracy, Mathway is still better.

Use Cymath app to solve math with image

Cymath shines in a few other aspects, for example, the history section and the ability to bookmark solutions. This comes in handy whenever you are stuck and wish to refer to an old problem. In addition, it also has a learning tab that has common references, practice questions and also discusses one problem each week. The plus version comes at $4.99/month. It removes ads, shows the step-by-step solutions, and even answer why a certain step is used (in addition to how).

  • Covers most topics (algebra, calculus, graphing)
  • Clean interface (easy to browser)
  • Supports image and keyboard input
  • History and bookmark option
  • Stumbles a bit on accuracy
  • Not as comprehensive as Mathway

4. Geometry solver ² lite

Most math solver apps don’t deal with geometry, but here is an app that does it well. So the next time you struggle to find the area of a figure or you cannot recall a specific formula, you know where to look. You can easily toggle between 2D or 3D figures from the sidebar. Moreover, all the figures are given in a listicle form along with a line diagram for easy understanding.

Geometery solver app

The calculation is also extremely easy. All you have to do is add the variables and the app will show you all the results live as you change these variables in real-time. In case you do not want to rely on the auto-calculation feature, it shows all the formulae in the same tab for quick reference as well. While all the formulas are free, the calculator for several figures is locked. On the plus side, you can simply watch a 15 seconds video ad to unlock them. If you do not wish to see ads, you have the option to remove ads and unlock all figures by paying a $3.99/one-time fee.

  • 2D ad 3D figure section
  • Auto-calculator with variables
  • Lists all the formulas (area, perimeter, centroid, etc.)
  • Purely a geometry app

5. Google Lens (Homework)

Did you know you can use the Google Search app to solve math problems? Very few people know about it and I’m sure even less actually use it. In order to use this feature, you must have the Google Search app installed. Simply tap on the camera icon and select the Homework option from the bottom. Now all you have to do is point the camera towards the question and adjust the frame accordingly.

Solve math problem with Google Lens

If the app can scan the question successfully, you’ll get a preview for the same. If it’s not accurate you have the option to edit the question. You can also view the solution step-wise. Google also has another problem-solving app Socratic ( iOS , Android ) that covers all subjects. You can try that as well however it doesn’t allow you to upload questions from your gallery. Hence when your friends send you a problem on WhatsApp, using the Google Search app is a better solution.

  • Shows step by step solution
  • Allows you to edit the question
  • See similar questions/concepts with Google search results
  • Not a dedicated math solver app
  • Might not work for advance math

Get Google Search App for ( iOS | Android )

6. QuickMath

If you prefer using a PC over the phone to study, you should check QuickMath’s website. The website isn’t fancy but easily solves basic math problems. Similar to the math solver apps we have discussed above, it solves math problems automatically. Whether you are in school or college, it covers a vast array of subjects. You can solve simple equations, algebra, calculus, percentage problems, etc.

Solve math problems on web

The website is easy to browse and all the options are well laid out. You can click on the type of question from the side or top bar. Once you scroll down, you can also view a step-by-step solution for any given problem. In addition to that, it also provides a brief explanation for each step.

  • Easy to switch between types of questions
  • Solves both basic and advanced math problems
  • Features help and tutorial section
  • Step by step explanation
  • No option to upload questions
  • On-screen keyboard is a flimsy way to type (personal choice)

7. WolframAlpha

Wolfram is often called a search engine for solving problems. Unlike Google which heavily relies on search results, Wolfram uses deep computational power (extremely sourced and curated data) to solve mathematical equations and has a vast variety of areas it deals with. You can solve problems related to elementary math, algebra, calculus geometry, etc. To begin, type the question, upload a picture, even just paste a link containing the question.

WolframAplha math solver site

Wolfram Alpha will likely solve all your problems. The only hiccup is that a lot of great features are exclusive to the pro version which comes at $5.59/monthly. This not only unlocks step-by-step solutions but also adds useful features like practice problems, guided calculators (finance, nutrition, etc), option to download results, etc. If you are a student, I highly recommend you try this. It’s a great factual resource not only for solving maths but other subjects such as chemistry, engineering, economics, stats, etc. too.

  • Solutions based on factual data
  • Covers most subject besides mathematics
  • Useful features behind the paywall (step-by-step solution, download results, etc.)

Visit WolframAlpha

Closing Remarks: Which Math Solver Apps Should You Choose

In my opinion, Mathway is the perfect app, to begin with. It deals with most of the problems in addition to being accurate. You can type, use voice command and even capture questions to find answers. If you’re on PC, try the QuickMath website which will work in most cases.

  • Go to Settings , General , Software Update , and see if there’s an update available.
  • It’s usually best to allow your iPhone to update automatically by going to Settings , General , Software Update , Automatic Updates , and toggling on Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates .
  • To make sure your apps are up to date, open the App Store, tap your profile icon at the top, and tap Update All .
  • It’s usually best to allow your iPhone to update apps automatically too. You can do this by going to Settings , App Store , and toggling on App Updates .

Sometimes your iPhone doesn’t respond, or the touchscreen freezes up, making it impossible to turn off the regular way. If this happens to you, it’s time to try what Apple calls a force restart . Here’s how to do it on most modern iPhones, from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 13:

  • Start by pressing and quickly releasing the volume up button
  • Now, press and quickly release the volume down button.
  • Finally, press and hold the power button.
  • When you see the Apple logo on the screen, you can let go of the power button.

If you have an iPhone 7, press and hold both the power button and the volume down button until you see the Apple logo. If you have an iPhone 6s, first-generation iPhone SE, or an older iPhone, press and hold the power button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears.

If you’ve had your iPhone plugged in or on the charger for a while (at least an hour) and it doesn’t seem to be charging, and you’ve tried a force restart (see above), here’s what to try next:

  • Start by looking at the charging port to make sure there’s nothing stuck in there and no visible signs of damage. Be very careful when cleaning your phone . If you want to dislodge dirt in the charging port, use a wooden toothpick, cotton swab, and steady hand.
  • The problem could be the charger or the cable. If there are visible splits or kinks in the cable or the charger has bent prongs, it’s time to recycle them and buy new ones. Try plugging your iPhone in with a different cable and charger, and use an outlet you know is working. Just make sure you use the right kind of charger .
  • If the charging port on your iPhone is damaged or your wall charger isn’t working, you can always try using a wireless charger . Every iPhone since the iPhone 8 supports wireless charging.
  • If none of these solutions work, then you'll need to head to an Apple Store and find out about your options for repair. You may be entitled to a free battery replacement. You can learn more in our guide on how to get a battery replacement for your smartphone .

WiFi Settings Menu on iPhone

It can be very frustrating when your iPhone refuses to connect to a Wi-Fi network, but it’s usually easy to fix. Here’s what to try:

  • Check that your router is on and working. See if other devices in your home are still connected. If your Wi-Fi is completely out, then try unplugging your router and then plugging it back in, and make sure all the cables are connected properly.
  • Go to Settings , Wi-Fi on your iPhone to ensure that it’s toggled on.
  • Tap on your Wi-Fi network name to see if there are any issues, and make sure that Auto-Join is toggled on.
  • If it still won’t connect, then go to Settings , Wi-Fi , and tap on your network name, then tap Forget This Network .
  • Try turning your iPhone and your router off and on again, then go back to Settings , Wi-Fi, and tap to connect to your network, entering your password when prompted. Bear in mind your router will take a few minutes to start back up.
  • As a last resort, go to Settings , General , Reset , Reset Network Settings . This will reset all of your Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings.

Bluetooth pairing settings menu on iPhone

Whether you are trying to connect a Bluetooth speaker, an in-car system, or another device, problems with iPhones connecting to Bluetooth are very common. Here’s how to fix them:

  • Start by making sure that your iPhone and Bluetooth accessory are fully charged, powered on, and close to each other.
  • Read up on your Bluetooth device or system, make sure you know how the pairing process works, and make your device discoverable (sometimes you have to hold down a button).
  • Go to Settings, Bluetooth on your iPhone, make sure it’s toggled on, look for the device you want to connect to in the list, and tap on it.
  • You may have to enter a PIN or passcode.
  • Some Bluetooth accessories use an app on your iPhone. If that’s the case, go to Settings , Privacy , Bluetooth, and make sure Bluetooth is turned on for the app.
  • If a previously connected device doesn’t seem to be working, then try unpairing it. Go to Settings, Bluetooth on your iPhone and tap the info button next to the device in question, tap Forget This Device , then try pairing again.
  • If you still can’t connect to your iPhone, try connecting to another phone or tablet to ensure the issue isn’t with your accessory or Bluetooth system. Sometimes there’s a limit to how many connections you can have, so refer to your Bluetooth device’s manufacturer to find out if this is the case and how you can delete old connections. We have a separate guide for troubleshooting Bluetooth headphone problems .
  • Try connecting a different Bluetooth device to your iPhone to see if that works.
  • If the problem seems to be with your iPhone, and nothing so far has worked, it’s time to contact Apple support .

We all know the fear as you inspect your iPhone screen for cracks after a tumble. Broken or cracked screens are very common. Although your iPhone may still work, it’s a good idea to get the screen fixed as soon as you can to prevent injury or further damage. These are your options:

  • Contact Apple and book an appointment to take your iPhone into an Apple Authorized Service Provider or the Genius Bar. You may have the option of scheduling an onsite repair where someone comes to your home or office. You can also mail your iPhone to a service center for repair, but that means being without your phone for a while. Apple’s official repairs are also very expensive. (It costs $279 for an out-of-warranty iPhone 13, for example.)
  • Find a reliable third-party repair shop, like New York City’s iPhone doctor . Just make sure you do your homework and read reviews first. And, if possible, have them repair it in front of you.
  • If you’re feeling handy, you could always try repairing it yourself. You can find detailed instructions and repair kits at iFixit and elsewhere. After a lot of pressure, Apple is finally making it easier to repair your iPhone , but most people probably shouldn’t attempt it—it’s easy to make a bad situation worse.
  • You might be tempted to just trade in or sell your iPhone , but we highly recommend fixing it first. While some services will buy broken iPhones, the amount of money they knock off the payment for a broken screen far exceeds the cost of a repair.
  • Whatever fix you go for, consider getting an iPhone case, screen protector, or both , so it doesn’t happen again.

If you find that your iPhone’s battery doesn’t last as long as it used to, you can check its health by going to Settings , Battery , Battery Health . This will show you what percentage of your battery’s initial charge capacity is left.

It’s easy to get a battery replacement, and it may even be free if your iPhone is still under warranty or you have AppleCare+, but you will need to visit an Apple Store or send your iPhone to a repair center. You can find more details in our guide on how to get a battery replacement for your smartphone .

Whether you spilled coffee all over it or your iPhone took a dive into the toilet bowl, there’s a good chance it will survive, provided you take the right action. Every iPhone since the iPhone 7 has some kind of water resistance . If yours gets wet, turn it off immediately and remove as much liquid as you can with a clean towel. Then read our guide on how to rescue a wet phone .

One of the reasons that Apple is so popular, and you paid a premium for that iPhone in the first place, is that the company offers a high standard of customer support. You should take advantage of that and contact Apple for help if you can’t find a fix on your own. Here’s how to go about it:

  • Before you contact Apple, it can be helpful to write a detailed description of your problem and document everything you have already tried to fix it.
  • It’s worth downloading the official Apple Support app . It offers lots of useful advice and troubleshooting tips and can connect you with a person when you need to speak to someone.
  • The Apple Support website can guide you through some possible fixes and help you find the right number to call when you need to.
  • If you want to go into an Apple Store or visit an authorized repair center, try this Apple website to locate one near you.

These fixes will cover many common iPhone problems. Even if you don’t think some of our suggestions relate to your issue, give them a try. You might be surprised. In the unfortunate event that your iPhone is still not behaving, here’s some advice on finding a fix yourself:

  • Start by typing your problem into Google (or your preferred search engine) and be as specific as possible. Include your iPhone model and a description of the problem.
  • Support forums are often the best places to find solutions. Look for a thread where someone has posted your exact problem and found a fix that worked. Try the Apple Support Forum , iPhone subreddits on Reddit , and forums on Apple-focused sites like iMore . You can also try creating a post of your own to ask for ideas on fixes.

The last resort for persistent problems is to factory-reset your iPhone , but this will wipe everything that’s on there. Please back up your iPhone before you consider this.

  • Once you have backed up, go to Settings , General , Reset , Erase All Content and Settings . Confirm and then set your iPhone aside for a few minutes for the process to complete.
  • If you restore your backup during the setup process and find that you still have issues, then try factory-resetting again, but this time, after it has been wiped and restarted, choose Set Up as New iPhone . If the issue is gone, it could be that an app or setting in your backup is causing the problem.

iPhone troubleshooting: Common iPhone problems and how to fix them

iPhone 11 Pro

It doesn't matter if you're on the latest iPhone running the latest version of iOS or on an older phone with aged software: "It just works" is an ideal. The reality is "it just works until it doesn't — usually when you need it the most." Like any complex and sophisticated machine, iPhone can cause you any number of problems. In most cases, though, iPhone troubleshooting is a straightforward affair. So, before you call Apple Support or visit your local Genius Bar, here are a few things you can try to get your devices and services "just working" again.

How do you restart, reboot, and recover your iPhone?

One of the best iPhone troubleshooting tips is a cliché for a reason. Sometimes merely restarting your iPhone can clear up problems that range from battery drain to bad Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to misbehaving apps. You can simply power down and power up or, if you have to, you can hard reboot.

Sometimes a reboot just isn't enough. If something has gone seriously wrong and you're either told to — or need to — put your iPhone into recovery or device firmware update (DFU) mode to completely re-install iOS, you have that option as well.

And if you don't want to reset everything but just one or a few things, you can do that too! It's a simple task to reset the phone's settings, remove network connections, erase content, zap the keyboard dictionary, rearrange the Home screen, or dump Location and Privacy data.

What if your iPhone won't charge, gets terrible battery life, won't shut down, or won't start up?

Having problems with power is the worst. It means you can't rely on your iPhone working for you when you need it. Whether your iPhone isn't charging, is draining too fast even when charged, or simply won't turn off or refuses to turn back on, the good news is that sometimes it's easy to fix on your own.

  • How to force your iPhone to restart

How do I fix problems with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other connections?

Connections that won't connect... grr. Bluetooth needs to broadcast and establish a connection; Wi-Fi needs to lock on and transmit data; AirDrop relies on both. It may seem like a miracle any of it ever works, but it should all work, all the time. That's the job. So, if your connection isn't connecting, here's what you can try.

  • How to troubleshoot Bluetooth connections
  • How to troubleshoot HomeKit connections
  • How to troubleshoot AirDrop connections

What if nothing is working?

In some cases, despite all of our best efforts, you'll encounter problems you can't fix on your own. In those cases, you should escalate straight to Apple: You can call the company at 1-800-MY-APPLE, tweet them @apple_support, visit them online at apple.com/support , or go straight to your local Apple Retail Store.

What problems do you need help solving?

In need of some iPhone troubleshooting and it's not addressed in this guide? Or have you found a solution that works better? Then drop it in the comments!

15 Key iPhone Troubleshooting Tips for All iPhone Models

Having trouble with your iPhone? Here's our iPhone troubleshooting guide with fixes for all kinds of common iPhone issues.

Apple's iPhones might be beautifully crafted pieces of tech that many people regard as the pinnacle of smartphone design, but even they can run into problems.

Here are our top troubleshooting tips for all iPhone iterations. We'll start by looking at some general troubleshooting tips, then focus on model-specific issues.

1. Restart Your iPhone

The number one cure for any tech ailment—iOS or Android, Windows or Mac, TV or printer—is to turn the device off and back on. Indeed, there are very few situations where a simple reboot shouldn't be your first port of call.

The trick works because it resets the software into a stable state after an unexpected sequence of events caused something to break.

The process varies depending on which model of iPhone you have, but we've covered how to restart any iPhone, even if the buttons are broken .

2. Update iOS

settings iphone menu

if a simple reboot didn't fix your issue, you need to ensure your iPhone is up to date . If you're running an outdated version of iOS, certain apps and features might not be compatible (not to mention the security vulnerabilities this exposes you to).

To update iOS, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update . We've also got some solutions if you can't update your iPhone .

3. Update Your Apps

appstore-homepage

If you're having issues with a particular app, it's worth ensuring you're running its latest version. That's because developers are constantly releasing bug fixes with each new update, so the issue you're facing may have been fixed.

You can update apps manually via the App Store. In the App Store app, tap your profile photo at the top. Then, scroll down and tap Update All or the specific app you want to update.

4. Force-Close an iPhone App

Sometimes an app's instance will become unresponsive, causing it to freeze.

Force-Close an App on iPhone X or Later

To force-close an app on an iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom of the screen but leave your finger on the screen halfway up. The phone will launch the app switcher. Swipe up on an app card to close it.

Force-Close an App on iPhone SE, iPhone 8, or Earlier

To force-close an app on an iPhone 8 or older, double-press the home button to bring up the app switcher. Swipe left and right to find the app you want to close, then swipe up.

5. Reset Your iPhone's Network Settings

iPhone reset page in Settings

Most connectivity issues can be solved by resetting your network settings. It's easy to do. Head to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings .

Remember that although you won't lose your valuable data, you will lose any saved Wi-Fi passwords by performing this reset.

6. Reset All Settings on Your iPhone

If you think an erroneous setting (rather than software or hardware) is the root of your problems, you can reset all phone settings without losing your data. Of course, you'll need to put everything back the way it was afterward.

Head to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings to begin the process.

7. Factory Reset Your iPhone

iphone settings factory reset

If you need a nuclear option, you could factory reset your iPhone . It will return your device to its original state. Although this won't cure hardware issues, it should solve most software and OS-related problems.

To reset your iPhone, open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings .

Make sure you back up all your iPhone data before you perform a factory reset. You will irrecoverably lose any data you have not backed up.

8. Check Your iPhone's Battery Usage

iphone battery settings

iPhones generally have excellent battery life, even for power users. But if your device's battery drains unusually quickly, you can try to identify the offending app.

To see which apps use the most juice, go to Settings > Battery. You can check the charts at the bottom to look at the battery usage of various apps over a certain time frame.

9. Review Your iPhone's Battery Health

Batteries can only tolerate a certain number of charge cycles before severely deteriorating. Fortunately, Apple allows you to keep an eye on your iPhone's battery health with ease.

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging to take a look. And if it's lower than 80%, it's time to get a battery replacement.

10. Fix Bluetooth Issues

Bluetooth can act surprisingly finicky for a technology that's so widely used. If you're having problems creating a Bluetooth connection between your iPhone and another device, there are a couple of fixes you can try.

Firstly, remove old devices that you no longer use. It can help avoid conflicts. To unpair a device, go to Settings > Bluetooth > Info > Forget This Device .

Secondly, turn Bluetooth off and on again (sound familiar?). Swipe up from the bottom of the screen on an iPhone 8 or earlier (swipe down from the upper-right for iPhone X and later) to access the Control Center , and tap the Bluetooth icon to toggle it.

11. Fix HomeKit Issues

Some smart home devices are HomeKit-enabled, thus letting you control them from your iPhone using Siri.

If your HomeKit devices are not working as expected, ensure you're logged into the same iCloud account on both your iPhone and the devices themselves. If nothing else works, you can reset your HomeKit connections by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > HomeKit > Reset HomeKit Configuration .

12. Check for Dirt

Cleaning an iPhone Charging Port with SIM Key

If you have problems charging your iPhone or using its physical buttons, you should always check for dirt, dust, and other muck that might have built up under the buttons and the Lightning port.

The best way to dislodge the dirt at home is to use a can of compressed air. We have a detailed guide on cleaning your iPhone that should help.

13. Revoke Background Permissions

If your iPhone overheats , you can't use features such as the camera flash. In extreme cases, you might not be able to use your phone at all until it cools down.

Obviously, if you accidentally left your phone in the sun, it's easy to identify the culprit. Car vent clips can also cause overheating . However, if it overheats regularly during normal usage, an intensive background app could be at fault.

To prevent apps from running in the background, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and slide the toggles on a per-app basis as required.

14. Remove the SIM Card

If you've suddenly lost the network signal unexpectedly, a dislodged SIM card could be your issue.

Thankfully, it's easy to remove and reinsert the SIM. You just need a pin or paperclip to open the tray (because nobody keeps Apple's SIM-eject tool, right?).

15. Go to an Apple Store

If you can't fix the issue yourself, it's probably time to book an Apple Store appointment at a Genius Bar . If your device is under warranty or you have Apple Care, the store will fix your iPhone for free, even if it involves sending it away for repair.

iPhone 14 & 13 Troubleshooting Tips

The iPhone 13 and 14 have one common issue related to 5G connectivity. There are also some activation issues, among others, seen on the iPhone 13 . Resetting the Network Settings has been shown to work in these cases.

Some users have also reported Face ID issues on the iPhone 14 Pro. Usually, all you need to do is clean your Face ID sensor or hold your iPhone correctly to get Face ID to unlock it.

iPhone 12 Troubleshooting Tips

Like the iPhone 14, the iPhone 12 also has some Face ID issues. However, one of the most common issues seen is a non-working SIM card.

If you're facing issues on the iPhone 12, consider reading our guide on the biggest iPhone 12 issues and how to fix them .

iPhone 11 Troubleshooting Tips

More than anything, iPhone 11 users seem to have issues related to the battery. Either the battery drains too fast, or it has lost capacity too quickly.

This can be a bothersome issue, as replacing an iPhone's battery can be pricey. With warranties usually expired for this model, users are left to fix it themselves.

Before worrying too much, check out the battery health on your iPhone and see what capacity it's at. It might also be worth taking preventive measures to protect your iPhone's battery health .

iPhone X Troubleshooting Tips

Two problems unique to the iPhone X are accidental automatic emergency calls and green lines on the display.

You can disable the automatic emergency calls by going to Settings > Emergency SOS > Auto Call . But if your iPhone suffers from the green line issue, you must contact Apple Support .

iPhone 8 Troubleshooting Tips

The forced restart method changed on the iPhone 8. If you own one, you'll need to press and release Volume Up , press and release Volume Down , then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Another issue that afflicted a lot of iPhone 8 devices was a swelling battery. If you have this problem, you'll need to contact Apple for a replacement.

iPhone 7 Troubleshooting Tips

The most common iPhone 7 complaint is poor call quality. Apple has acknowledged the problem and offered a list of fixes. Here are the company's suggestions:

  • Ensure your iPhone is not in Silent mode.
  • Check if your phone's case is blocking the speaker.
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Clean any dirt, dust, or debris out of the speaker.
  • Make sure your speaker volume is set to the maximum.

It's fair to say they're not particularly helpful suggestions, but that's Apple for you. Anecdotally, some users said Verizon was to blame, so you could try changing carriers if you're desperate.

iPhone 6 Troubleshooting Tips

A few people still use an iPhone 6. It's the phone that was infamously "bendy." So, if you have one, be careful not to place it under physical stress.

That aside, the iPhone 6 was probably the worst iPhone model from a design standpoint:

  • It was found to pull people's hair out because of a tiny space between the screen and chassis (solution: don't hold it too close to your ear).
  • Users suffered Error 53 messages if they replaced the Home button using a third party; it locked them out of their device.
  • The Plus model's optical image stabilization system was defective.
  • The touchscreen was prone to failure.

Almost all these issues were only resolved by taking your phone to an Apple Store.

Troubleshoot All Your iPhone Issues

We've gone over fixes for the most common iPhone issues and even included tips for specific models. So, no matter which iPhone you have, there's something for you. Hopefully, one of these helps you fix your issue; you'll likely need to contact an Apple Support agent if not because they'll be able to assist you in more ways than we could.

Check your iphone's battery health, force quit apps that have crashed, restart your phone to fix a huge range of problems, update apps to solve software problems, update ios to solve bigger problems, consdier resetting network settings, reset all settings to wipe the slate clean, erase your iphone and restore a backup, dfu reset and restore a backup, erase and set up as new.

Despite being one of the top names in the smartphone market, even iPhones can run into problems. Since each issue has its own fix, finding the right solution can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Today we'll take a look at some iPhone troubleshooting tips to fix all kinds of problems.

One of the most common problems you might experience with your iPhone is that its battery doesn't last because it has degraded. When this happens, you'll end up charging your iPhone more often because the battery can't hold a sufficient charge to last a day. You may also experience unexpected shutdowns and reduced performance.

To check your iPhone battery, launch Settings and head to Battery > Battery Health & Charging. If your battery health has dropped below 80%, consider a battery replacement . If you see anything other than "Peak Performance Capability" then your iPhone has reduced performance to accommodate a failing battery.

While it's normal for iPhone battery health to decline over time, rapid degradation could be due to using a non-MFi-certified charger or cable. Using non-certified charging accessories may damage the battery due to heat build-up and may also take longer to charge your iPhone. To prevent this, you should always stick to MFi-certified chargers .

Another issue you might encounter is your iPhone completely failing to charge. This is often caused by dirt in the charging port. To check, shine a flashlight into the port. If you see any dirt or debris, carefully remove it with a wooden toothpick . Don't forget to wipe your charging cable down too.

If an app isn't working properly or responding on your iPhone, you can force quit it and then relaunch it to fix the issue. To do this on iPhone X or later, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle for a moment to open the app switcher. Then, find the app that's not responding and then swipe it up to close it.

To force quit an app on iPhone SE, iPhone 8, or earlier models, open the app switcher by double-pressing the Home button. Then, swipe to the unresponsive app and swipe it up to close it. After that, relaunch the app, and you should no longer face the issue.

You can solve a huge number of iPhone problems by simply restarting your iPhone . When you opt for restart, your iPhone shuts down all the running apps and background processes. This allows it to free up system resources, clear temporary files, and eliminate any bugs and glitches that might be causing the issue.

To restart your iPhone, open the Settings app and tap "General."

General option in the iPhone settings app.

Tap on the "Shut Down" option.

Move the slider to the right to turn off your iPhone.

After that, wait a few seconds, and then long-press the power button to turn on your iPhone. Upon restart, you should no longer face the problem you had before. You can also press and hold the side button and volume up button, or ask Siri to restart your iPhone.

If your iPhone isn't responding at all, and you can't even use its touch screen or buttons, you'll need to force restart your iPhone .

If an app is acting up, won't open, some features are broken, or it frequently crashes, consider updating it. Developers often fix problems with new versions of the app, so grabbing the latest build might just solve your issue.

Let's say you're having trouble with LinkedIn on your iPhone. Then, to update it, open the App Store and search for "LinkedIn."

Searching for LinkedIn on the iPhone App Store.

If an update is available, an "Update" button will appear next to the LinkedIn logo. Tap it to start the update process.

Update buton to update LinkedIn through App Store.

Similarly, you can download updates for any other app installed on your iPhone. You can do this by launching the App Store, tapping on your profile picture, then hitting the "Update All" button.

Sometimes updating apps isn't enough, you also need to update the operating system too . You can update iOS under Settings > General > Software Update.

Updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS will not only ensure that any ongoing issue with your iPhone is resolved but will also add new features and the latest security patches. Your iPhone will restart once the update is complete.

If your device isn't connecting to the internet, you're not receiving calls, or you're experiencing other network issues, resetting your network settings might help. Be aware that resetting network settings will wipe out all saved Wi-Fi passwords so make sure that have the password for your primary Wi-Fi network so you can easily reconnect after the reset.

To reset your network settings, open the Settings app and tap "General." Then, select "Transfer Or Reset iPhone."

Transfer or Reset iPhone option in the iPhone Settings app.

Tap "Reset."

The Apple logo will appear with a progress bar. Once the reset is complete, your device will automatically restart. Hopefully, your network issues will be resolved!

Your iPhone has a helpful "Reset All Settings" option that can be useful in various situations. This option restores all your customized settings to their default values, including network settings, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards.

This option is useful if you're having problems with your iPhone, such as unexpected behavior, sluggish performance, or connection problems. To use the "Reset All Settings" option, open the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.

Reset All Settings option in the iPhone Settings app.

Type your device passcode and then tap "Reset All Settings" again.

Reset All Settings confirmation in the iPhone Settings app.

You'll see the Apple logo and the progress bar indicating the process has begun. Once it's complete, your iPhone will restart automatically.

If you're still facing issues, it might be worth creating a backup of your iPhone and then erasing everything. You can create an iCloud backup under Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now or by connecting to a Mac or Windows PC running iTunes.

You should only erase your iPhone if you're confident you have a backup that you can easily restore. Be warned that all of your data will be deleted if you proceed.

To erase data from your iPhone, open the Settings app and navigate to General > Transfer Or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.

Erase All Content and Settings option in the Settings app.

Tap "Continue."

Continue option on the Erase This iPhone screen.

Enter your device passcode. Then, tap the "Erase iPhone" option.

Erase iPhone option in the Settings App.

After that, the iPhone will start erasing all the data of your iPhone. Once the process is complete, restart your iPhone. Upon restart, you'll be given choices on how to restore the backup on your iPhone to access all personal data.

Most problems you encounter with your iPhone can be fixed with a few simple tricks. However, if none of the solutions work or your iPhone has become completely unresponsive, you may need to reinstall the firmware using DFU mode.

Device Firmware Update (DFU) is an advanced recovery mode that can fix problems directly with your iPhone's firmware. While in DFU mode, your iPhone will be powered on, but the operating system won't load. Remember that using DFU mode will erase all your data, so we strongly recommend creating a backup of your iPhone before proceeding.

The specific steps for entering DFU mode and reinstalling the firmware vary depending on your iPhone model. However, the general process involves connecting your iPhone to your Mac or Windows computer. Then, you'll need to perform a specific sequence of button presses to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Once Finder or iTunes recognizes your device, you can follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the firmware.

Is your iPhone issue still happening even after you erased everything and restored the backup? It may be worth erasing everything again and setting up your device as new . If the problem disappears, this will confirm that the issue was something in the backup state.

In that case, you'll need to restore to an older backup. iCloud may allow you to restore a previous version, so you could use one of those (not the most recent) to fix the issue. If you make frequent local backups on your Mac or Windows machine then you might want to try one of those too. You'll lose any data added to your iPhone after that backup was created.

Unfortunately, there's no way around it. You'll have to sacrifice some data to get your iPhone back in working order.

Hopefully these fixes can resolve any issues you have with your iPhone. If you're still having trouble, we recommend taking your iPhone to Apple or an authorized service center for further help.

1. Restart Your iPhone

The first and most basic troubleshooting tip is to restart your iPhone. A simple restart can fix many minor glitches and errors that might be causing your iPhone to malfunction and improve overall performance. To restart your iPhone, simply-

  • Press and hold either the Volume or side button until you see the slide to power off option.
  • Swipe the slider to turn off your iPhone.
  • To power it back on, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

2. Free Up Storage Space

Insufficient storage space can lead to sluggish performance and various errors. Check your available storage by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage . This will display the available storage and highlight which apps are consuming the most space on your device.

From here, you can access photos on iPhone and delete unnecessary photos, videos, or apps to free up space and enhance your iPhone's performance.

3. Update iOS to the Latest Version

Apple regularly releases new versions of iOS that include bug fixes, security patches, and performance improvements. If you are running an outdated version of iOS, you might experience compatibility problems or vulnerabilities.

To enable automatic updates to your iOS,

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates.
  • Turn on "iOS Updates" by toggling the switch next to "Automatically Install" and "Automatically Download."

With this setting, when an update becomes available, your iPhone will automatically download and install it overnight while connected to Wi-Fi and charging. You'll receive a notification before the update is installed.

However, if you prefer to update your iPhone manually , go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Download and Install if there is a new update available.

4. Check for App Updates

App developers also update their apps to fix issues and add new features. And, just like the outdated iOS version, outdated apps can also cause compatibility issues and performance problems.

Now, for updating your iPhone apps,

  • Go to the App Store and tap on your profile picture at the top.
  • Then, scroll down and tap Update All or the specific app you want to update.

You can also enable automatic app updates on your iPhone, and to do this, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on "App Store."
  • Toggle the switch next to "App Updates" to turn automatic app updates on or off based on your preference.

Keeping your apps up-to-date ensures they work seamlessly with the latest iOS version, solve many software-related problems, and enhance your iPhone experience.

5. Force-Close an iPhone App

Sometimes, an app might crash or freeze on your iPhone, preventing you from using it. In such cases, all you need to do is force-close the app and relaunch it. Force-closing an app can also help if the app is draining your battery or using too much data.

To force-close an app on an iPhone-

  • Double-press the Home button to bring up the most recently used apps.
  • Swipe left or right to find the app you want to close.
  • Then swipe up on the app's preview to shut down the app..

Force-closing an app can resolve many app-specific issues and free up memory and resources.

6. Reset Your Network Settings

If you are having trouble with your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, or VPN connections, you might need to reset your network settings. This can help you fix any network-related problems that might be affecting your iPhone.

But, remember, this will erase all your saved Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth devices, VPN configurations, and cellular settings and restore them to the default values. Therefore, make sure to note down the passwords and login info you need.

To reset your network settings, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings . Enter your passcode if prompted and confirm your action.

Resetting your network settings can help you reconnect to your networks and solve any connectivity issues.

7. Check Your iPhone’s Battery Health

If your iPhone’s battery is draining too fast or not charging properly, you might want to check your iPhone’s battery health. This will tell you the maximum capacity and peak performance capability of your battery, as well as if your battery needs to be serviced or replaced.

A healthy battery should have a maximum capacity of at least 80% and be able to support normal peak performance.

To check your iPhone’s battery health, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging . You will see the percentage of your battery’s maximum capacity and a message indicating its status. If you see a message saying that your battery’s health is significantly degraded or that your iPhone’s performance is limited, you might need to replace your battery.

8. Clear Your iPhone Cache

To enhance your browser's speed, consider clearing your cache, which accumulates over time from your online activities. Browsers like Chrome and Safari store data, including history and cookies, to improve future visits to websites.

Clearing the cache can address issues like loading or formatting problems on sites.

To clear the cache on Safari, navigate to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data .

Keep in mind that clearing the cache will delete your browsing history, cookies, and other data, so make sure to save your passwords and login information for your preferred websites.

9. Factory Reset Your iPhone

If none of the above troubleshooting tips work for you, or if you have a serious issue that prevents your iPhone from functioning normally, you might need to factory reset your iPhone.

To erase your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings .

This will revert your device to its original state, resolving most software and operating system-related issues. However, it won't address hardware issues.

Note: Performing a factory reset on your iPhone will erase all data and settings, reinstalling the latest version of iOS. This action should only be taken if you have backed up your phone. Ensure you have a backup using iCloud or iTunes, so you can later restore your data and settings after the reset.

iPhone users stuck in SOS mode as AT&T outage disrupts cellular network: Resolved!

Save our service!

iPhone showing SOS cellular signal warning

  • "Why is my iPhone in SOS mode?"
  • "Who is affected?"
  • "How do I fix iPhone SOS?"
  • "When will it be fixed?"
  • "What caused the AT&T outage?"
  • "What if I need help?"

Update (02/22/24): AT&T has confirmed that the ongoing service outage causing iPhone SOS messages has since been fully resolved. Check out our coverage for more information, including AT&T's initial findings for the cause of the outage .

Has your iPhone suddenly entered SOS mode? You're not alone! Reports from across U.S. social media this morning revealed that service providers like AT&T, Verizon , Cricket, T-Mobile, and more may currently be facing reports of service issues amid a national outage, triggering iPhones to enter into a no-service state.

"Why is my iPhone in SOS mode?" "Who is affected?" "How do I fix SOS on iPhone?" "When will it be fixed?" "What caused the AT&T outage?" "What if I need help?"

However, those reports are seemingly stemming from confusion over an inability of Verizon, T-Mobile, Cricket, and other network users to communicate with AT&T customers, who appear to be the primary group suffering from connection issues at this time. Both T-Mobile and Verizon have confirmed that their networks are in working order, pointing to AT&T as the cause of confusion regarding service interruptions.

From what we know so far, AT&T's network had suffered a nationwide outage resulting in service disruptions from California to New York and almost everywhere in between.

AT&T has now confirmed that the ongoing outage is now resolved and customers should be returning to full service. While investigations continue, AT&T has provided us with an initial assumption as to what triggered the outage.

AT&T Outage: "Why is my iPhone in SOS mode?"

Seeing an SOS message is more often than not, never a good sign. Thousands of iPhone owners saw the SOS warning appear on their smartphones today leaving many of them confused or worried that something was going wrong, either with their device or at a wider level.

Thankfully, while the SOS warning sounds severe it doesn't mean that your phone is warning out about an impending fault, state of national emergency, or that you're in danger.

iPhone's SOS mode kicks in when your cellular connection has been severed, meaning you can only complete SOS calls or texts to emergency services. People owning an iPhone 13 and earlier Apple devices won't get the SOS indicator but will see a "No service" indicator, instead.

The SOS indicator had been in place since the early hours of the morning, with AT&T's cellular network having been inaccessible to customers across the United States. As per the latest update from AT&T, service has now been fully restored.

  • Back to the top ⤴

AT&T Outage: "Who is affected?"

While other outages might be occurring throughout the U.S., the majority of people being affected by today's service outages are AT&T customers. At first, many believed that today's service interruptions were also occurring on T-Mobile, Verizon, and Cricket platforms, with service status tracking website DownDetector registering large increases in reported faults across dozens of American cellular service providers.

However, in statements from earlier in the day, both Verizon and T-Mobile explained that their networks were currently not experiencing outages, with Verizon pointing out DownDetector's numbers were likely from when "customers experienced issues this morning when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier." In this instance, AT&T.

The outage appeared to have stretched from coast to coast, with reports hailing from a range of states including Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, New York, and California.

Before normal service was resumed, outage tracker DownDetector, which sources its information from user-submitted tips about service issues, showed major hotspots in the following states:

Smaller hotspots appeared throughout the rest of the country, and, according to DownDetector.com , the following areas were reporting cellular issues on the AT&T network as of 02/22/24, 3:30 p.m.:

AT&T Outage: "How do I fix SOS on iPhone?"

Sadly, with a national outage like the one experienced today having occurred at the carrier level, there was little customers could personally do to fix things.

However, typically you may be able to resolve the issue by following the steps in our guide on SOS on iPhone: What it means and how to fix it . However, this is not a guaranteed solution.

AT&T Outage: "When will it be fixed?"

Update (02/22/24): The ongoing outage has been confirmed as resolved by AT&T.

AT&T is aware of the outage within its network and doing everything it can to fix it. According to a bulletin from the service provider at 11 a.m. ET, it claims "Our network teams took immediate action and so far three-quarters of our network has been restored."

DownDetector seems to back these claims, showing a considerable drop in user-supplied reports of faults for the AT&T network across the country.

Great news for those affected, but what of the remaining users who rely on its network? AT&T reassures its customers by adding "We are working as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers."

The fact AT&T have been able to restore all but a quarter of its coverage to customers is promising and suggests that a complete recovery from today's outage is imminent.

AT&T Outage: "What caused the AT&T outage?"

While internet theories were quick to spring up about possible cyber attacks and solar flares, there is currently no clear cause for the outage as of yet identified.

However, the FCC has revealed in a statement on X/Twitter that its Public Safety Bureau and the Homeland Security Bureau is in touch with AT&T and actively investigating the outage.

We are aware of the reported wireless outages, and our Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is actively investigating. We are in touch with AT&T and public safety authorities, including FirstNet, as well as other providers. February 22, 2024

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is also working alongside  AT&T to, as its Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity, Eric Goldstein, claims: "Understand the cause of the outage and its impact, and stand ready to offer any assistance needed."

Since service has been restored, AT&T has informed customers that it believes the outage was not a result of a cyber attack, but instead "the application & execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network"

Based on our initial review, we believe the outage was caused by the application & execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack. We are continuing our assessment to ensure we keep delivering the service that our customers deserve. February 23, 2024

AT&T Outage: "What if I need help?"

Typically, when an iPhone displays the SOS indicator, users are still able to contact emergency services by phone or text. However, various reports suggest that the outage has affected large portions of customers from even this.

The San Francisco Fire Department informed the public that AT&T customers are struggling to make calls to 911 services. The SFFD, requests that people do not call or text 911 to test their ability to do so, however, it does recommend that AT&T users make use of a landline to call emergency services during the outage.

i like this app because it shows the work and it absolutely free! you can type in the problem, show them problem and draw the problem! This app honestly amazing! It shows the work just in case you still don’t understand. This app made my life turn into depression to happiness. When I didn’t have this app I didn’t understand anything my professor was saying because I get distracted a lot, I had no clue on what to do on my papers, I would always fail and my mother would always get angry for failing which made me feel like a failure in life i could handle her screaming at me. Music was my therapy back then. I always cry every night because of my grades and everything that was happening to me. My best friend moved and didn’t say goodbye to me only to his other friends. My mom would always punish me by taking away my phone therefore i had no music and made my life worst, i would always stay up until 5-7 because i never wanted to wake up in the morning. I loved it when i was alone home. My dad was my favorite, he left me but i still go with him. I love him so much. Once i downloaded this app this cured all of my bad grades and my mom started to become more proud of me. So i hope you see this and download this!

So far so good

I’ve only been using this app for a short time, and so far it’s been great. You can write problems with your finger ( or stylist), type them in or take a picture of a problem (haven’t tested the picture on yet) but the first two work great. I had used Math Papa for many years and that was my go to…until they decided that if you want to see the step by step you have to pay a whopping $10 a month. This app shows how they got the answer for free. It amazes me that everyone acts so concerned about the U.S. being behind in math with the rest of the world, but people don’t want to give you good training for free. Kudos to Microsoft (for once) for free learning…that is, not charging to see the step by step solutions. May change this if anything changes after having used it longer.
Sure, I'd be happy to write a review for the Microsoft Math Solver app! The Microsoft Math Solver app is a fantastic tool for students and anyone who needs help solving math problems. The app is intuitive and easy to use, with a user-friendly interface that makes finding solutions to complex math problems a breeze. One of the standout features of the app is its ability to recognize handwritten math problems. This means that users can simply write out a problem on their device's screen using their finger or a stylus and the app will automatically recognize the problem and provide a step-by-step solution. In addition to handwritten recognition, the app also allows users to take a photo of a printed math problem and receive a solution. This feature is particularly useful for students who may not have access to a computer or who prefer to work on paper. Overall, the Microsoft Math Solver app is an excellent tool for anyone who needs help with math. Whether you're a student struggling with a difficult homework assignment or an adult trying to solve a complex math problem, this app is sure to be a helpful resource. Highly recommended!

AT&T’s network is having problems: What you should know while navigating a phone service outage

NEW YORK (AP) — Customers of AT&T, the country’s largest wireless provider, reported widespread outages on Thursday .

Here’s what to know if you are having problems with your phone service.

When did the outage start?

AT&T had more than 58,000 outages around noon ET , in locations including Houston, Atlanta and Chicago. The outages, which began at approximately 3:30 a.m. ET, peaked at around 73,000 reported incidents. The carrier has more than 240 million subscribers, the country’s largest.

What is the SOS mode?

Some AT&T iPhone customers saw SOS messages displayed in the status bar on their cellphones. The message indicates that the device is having trouble connecting to their cellular provider’s network, but it can make emergency calls through other carrier networks, according to Apple Support.

What is Wi-Fi calling?

AT&T urged customers to connect to Wi-Fi to use their phones. Wi-Fi calling is a built-in feature on most Android devices and iPhones and can be turned on under the phone’s settings.

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored,” AT&T said in a statement.

If Wi-Fi isn’t available, there are few options for cell phone users. It’s possible to switch services if a phone is unlocked, but that requires signing up online and porting your phone number .

Some apps, including Google Maps, have limited service offline. Payment apps also do not use a phone’s cell service to work and should also be useable.

What caused the outage?

AT&T has stayed mum so far on what caused the outage.

App stop working? Here's how to easily force quit on your Mac or iPhone

problem solving application for iphone

Our smartphones, tablets, and computers do a lot for us.

They help us access puppy videos, stay in touch with our loved ones and keep people of all ages entertained.

If you’re a regular user of Apple products, you’ve probably encountered the spinning rainbow wheel or a frozen app. It’s usually not a good sign when this happens, as it signals that something isn’t working as it should.

There is often a relatively easy fix when this happens, so you can easily get back to what you were doing.

Watch this video to see how easy it is to force quit any unresponsive app.

How to force quit an app on iPhone, iPad

Apple has a very simple solution for dealing with an unresponsive app on your iPhone and iPad.

Here's what to do when an app stops responding:

  • If your device has a home button, double press that instead.
  • This will bring up a carousel of all the open windows on your device.
  • Swipe the app you want to close. It will disappear from the carousel.
  • Reopen the app.

If the troublesome app means you can't do anything on your phone, turn it off and then turn it back on.

Force quit on Mac

When the spinning rainbow wheel appears on your computer, take solace in the fact there’s an easy way to force quit on your computer, too.

First, click out of the unresponsive app. You can do this by switching to another app or clicking on your desktop.

This changes your cursor from the rainbow wheel to the standard arrow.

There are three different ways you can force quit on your Mac:

  • Click and hold on the app in the dock and click Force Quit.
  • Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and select Force Quit.
  • Press the Option + Command + Esc keys at the same time to bring up the Force Quit menu.

If none of these options remedy the problem or if the force quit menu won't open, restart your computer.
