1. University of Georgia

The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education offers two grant writing courses: an introductory-level course called Fundamentals of Grant Writing I, and a higher-level course called Advanced Grant Proposal Writing. Each course provides 24 hours of instruction for a cost of $159.

2. University of South Carolina

University of South Carolina’s Grant Writing Certificate Program involves 30 hours of classes covering four courses: Introduction to Grant Writing, Needs Based Assessment, Intermediate Grant Writing, and Program Development and Evaluation.

Both online and classroom options are available for a fee of $1,322. The goal of this program is to prepare new and established professionals for the practical and conceptual aspects that are critical to the grant writing process.

3. Arizona State University

Arizona State University offers two levels of grant writing certificates : Grant Development—State and Foundation Proposal Certificate for $999 (early bird price) and Advanced Grant Development—Federal Proposal Certificate for $1,050 (early bird price).

Completion of the certificate requires a grade of B- or better in four courses: Evaluation, Grant Writing, Grant Management, and an elective. The certificate is designed for people interested in professional careers in or related to grant writing, grant management, and/or nonprofit program evaluation.

Non-degree, non-Colorado resident graduate students completing the required 12 hours of coursework can expect to pay roughly $9,700 plus a $60 application fee for an online UCCS certificate program. For Colorado residents, the fees are roughly $8,300.

5. Fort Hays State University

Fort Hays State University offers an eight-week University Grant Writing Certification Program for $175. Available for students in the United States only, the class meets online for two months.

While this is an introduction to grant proposal writing, many students enroll for a review and refresher course. Grant Writing Master's and PhD Degrees at a Glance

Grant writers research funding opportunities and write proposals, letters of inquiry and reports to individual donors or foundations to seek financial support for a program or project. Grant writers can work for nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses, or government agencies. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that employment of grant writers (who fall under the category of public relations/fundraising managers) is expected to grow by 16%, or about as fast as average, between 2010 and 2020.

There are no Master's or PhD programs that focus exclusively on grant writing. Grant writing is most often found as a single course or area of emphasis within a nonprofit management degree program.

Master's in Grant Writing

Grant writing is generally offered as one course in a master's degree program in nonprofit management. In this broader focus, you'll learn basic principles and theories of nonprofit leadership. You might study grant writing, fundraising, volunteer management, board development, and governance strategy.

Students might be expected to participate in an internship, which usually takes place with a local nonprofit agency. Some universities prefer that students already be a volunteer or an employee of a nonprofit organization before they're accepted into a nonprofit management program.

PhD programs in grant writing do not exist, and there are only a few schools that offer doctorate programs in nonprofit management. A PhD in public policy program with a concentration in nonprofit management teaches students governance and management strategies for operating a nonprofit organization. In addition to grand writing, coursework might address nonprofit fundraising, research, and prospectus writing. Completing a PhD program can take up to 5 years and requires approximately 60 hours of coursework, research, and preparation for your dissertation. This course provides students with the hands-on experience and knowledge they need to successfully begin the planning process for projects in need of grant funding. An approach to grantseeking begins with thinking about why the funding is needed and involving the grant applicant's stakeholders in the planning process.

Requirements

A to Z Grant Writing will take you through the planning process for documenting the need for funding in a Theory of Change Grant Project Planning Worksheet. Beginning with writing about what will be implemented (your vision for change and impact) when the project is funded, the worksheet begins to come to life. Exploring why funding is needed is the beginning of articulating the statement of need. You will learn how to document your projection of how, when funded, your project will initiate change. Once you've created the project's goals, the worksheet asks for inputs or resources (mirroring a logic model's format). Your thought processes and imagination will be tested in the implementation activities & timeline section. You'll also have a chance to develop outputs and outcomes for the planned project. Finally, you'll learn how to develop a project budget. Where does all of this lead? Every lesson is one step closer to having 100% of the information you'll need to write a highly competitive grant proposal. Additional features include six teachable moments videos and six choose your own adventure branching scenarios to fuel your creative thinking processes.

Employers look for both training and experience in their grant writers. This grant writing program will help you:

  • Build the foundational knowledge you need to identify and research grant prospects.

  • Work to help nonprofit leaders strategically position their organizations to succeed.
  • Learn how to interview staff and volunteers to get the information you need to develop highly-effective grant proposals.

The program consists of two 25-hour online courses:

  • Introduction to Grants and Funding Research is designed for those with no or little prior experience developing grant proposals. This course requires approximately 3-4 hours of work per week, including homework.
  • Grant Proposal Development will provide you with an opportunity to practice and develop grant writing skills. This course requires approximately 4-6 hours of work per week, including homework.

Lessons in both courses are pre-recorded, which means that you can watch them on your schedule. You’ll also connect with your instructor one-on-one via email and the course’s discussion board.

To earn your Professional Certificate in Grant Writing, you’ll need to complete both courses.

These courses do not receive academic credit and will not show up on an SDSU transcript.

However, students who complete courses in our professional certificate programs (other than those that are graded as Pass/No Pass) will receive a final letter score that mimics the grading rubric SDSU uses for credit-bearing courses. Students will also receive a Letter of Completion from our registration team for each course they complete, which will include their final score.

Our grant writing program is 100% online. The program consists of two 5-week courses that contain 25 total hours of work each. You can complete the program and earn your Professional Certificate in as little as 10 weeks.

Courses in our grant writing program feature a mostly asynchronous virtual instruction learning modality. This means:

  • Unless otherwise noted, instruction is provided through a combination of recorded and limited direct instruction with academic activities, quizzes, etc., at the arranged times and dates described in the footnotes and syllabus. Content may be open for restricted periods of time.
  • Students may be expected to attend any live sessions necessary to complete the course.
  • Final exams or assignments will be listed in the course syllabus and may need to be completed at a set time and date.
  • Faculty and instructors are available for office hours and instructional support when needed.

Mostly Asynchronous courses may be preferable for students in different time zones as they provide the flexibility to do work on your own schedule at your own pace. However, these courses may require group activities and arranged meetings with faculty.

Core Courses

This course will prepare you to write successful grant proposals for nonprofit organizations or tax-exempt institutions (we do not focus on research institutions, businesses or individuals).

You will learn how to successfully research funding prospects, interact with those funders, and plan to write a grant proposal. We will explore why grants are funded, and what motivates a grantor to award a grant. You will also develop a brief letter of inquiry proposal, receiving feedback and guidance on improving your request. The course will also guide you on creating a plan to track, manage, and plan your grant proposals.

You will learn how to develop a compelling, effective grant proposal, including the proposal narrative and budget. You will gain an understanding of federal, state, and private foundation grant guidelines. The course will help you learn how to make your grant proposal stand out. You will have the opportunity to practice writing elements of the proposal with support and guidance from an expert in the field. The course will also provide you with example grant proposals, and you will review those proposals for strengths and weaknesses with your fellow students.

Program Overview

Essentials of Grant Writing is an eight-week virtual course offered by the West Virginia Grant Resource Centers through the West Virginia University (WVU) eCampus Learning Academy. The course starts October 9, 2023, with students completing one weekly online module. This introductory course provides course takers with an opportunity to gain or improve grant writing skills so they can develop competitive grant proposals.

This course focuses on the pre-award phase of the grant life cycle. Course takers will learn how to successfully find and analyze funding opportunities, create grant checklists, write project narratives, develop budgets and budget narratives, fill out application forms, and develop complete application packages for submission. This course is designed to provide course takers with the tools and knowledge to write compelling, strong grant proposals on behalf of eligible applicants.

Grant Writing Graduate Certificate

The Department of Leadership offers a 12-hour graduate certificate in Grant Writing.

This online program is designed for professionals who have already earned a Bachelor's degree and would like to earn a graduate credential while building skills in grant writing. The twelve-hour graduate certificate can be earned in as little as two eight-week terms.  Completion of this certificate will allow students to transition directly into the Master of Science in Leadership (MSL), if desired.  The certificate classes will count as four of the ten courses required for the MSL degree.

Students will complete this 12-hour program by taking four online courses, including two core courses in grant writing and two elective courses, as outlined below:

You have a lot on your plate. Between annual appeals, communications, virtual event planning and fundraising, you’re overwhelmed. And now you’ve been tasked with writing a grant and you don’t know where to start. Our online grant writing program can help!

This interactive online professional development program will teach you the basics of seeing a grant through a full cycle — from inception to completion. You’ll learn how to get your organization ready to apply for grants, where to find funders and funding opportunities, how to write the components of a grant and how to submit a successful application that has all the information funders want to see.

Using case studies, this program will focus on real-world grant applications. Comprehensive checklists and worksheets will guide you through every step of planning, researching, applying to and managing a grant — without missing a thing! You’ll also develop language specific to your organization that answers common grant questions.

The only thing you won’t learn in this program is how to celebrate securing a grant proposal. We figure you’ve got that one covered. 🙂

This dynamic program will be offered synchronously via Zoom —you’ll need access to a stable internet connection. There will be assignments between classes (as well as time during sessions to work on your proposals). Breakout sessions with other participants as well as one on one time with the instructor are built into the program.

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
